Nadya Suleman: 'Octomom' feels like a 'carnival attraction'

Posted: 08:00 PM ET

On today's Oprah Winfrey Show, Nadya Suleman says being  "Octomom" makes her feel like a "carnival attraction." She said, "I never imagined it would be like this."

Suleman says she will never do a reality television show and that "a parent must provide for their kids, not the other way around." (But didn't she sign a deal with Radar to allow cameras in the house? And last June, her lawyer said she had signed a deal to star in a reality TV series to be filmed by a Netherlands-based production company.)

She opened her home to Oprah's cameras, who followed her around for a chaotic day, revealing Suleman doesn't get much sleep and spends about $1,000 per week on groceries for her family. She has three nannies, alternating during the day, but no help at night. She said her only means of income is from the media. Suleman was paid $100,000 for the Star bikini cover, and she says she still has some of that money left, but is looking for another media opportunity to generate income. Oprah didn't pay her "a dime" for the interview.

Would you watch a reality show with Nadya Suleman?

Move over Jon & Kate – Here comes Octomom!!

Posted: 08:44 AM ET

Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to octuplets in January, will star in a reality television series about her family, a TV executive said.

The Eyeworks executive, who asked not to be named, confirmed a Us magazine report that quoted Suleman's lawyer, Jeff Czech, saying a deal has been reached after months of negotiations.

The "quasi-reality TV series" would be "an arrangement whereby several events in the children's lives would be filmed in a documentary series," Czech told Us.

Eyeworks' British division will produce the show, the Eyeworks executive said.

"There is a story to be told" about the family, he said.

"They might be several shows aired during a year. There are all kinds of possibilities. It really depends on what the networks want," Czech was quoted as saying.

Though he said the show has not been named, Suleman has sought to trademark her media nickname - Octomom - for a TV show and a line of diapers.

Hospital fires 15 for looking in to Octomom's file

Posted: 07:53 AM ET

Fifteen employees were fired for improperly accessing medical records of Nadya Suleman, the mother of octuplets, a Kaiser Permanente spokesman said Monday.

"We always provide training on the importance of patient privacy and confidentiality," said Jim Anderson, the hospital spokesman. "We knew from the time she (Nadya Suleman) was admitted to the hospital in December, this case would attract attention.

"Numerous training sessions were held to remind people of the need to keep the information confidential."

Eight other employees of the Bellflower, California hospital were disciplined for accessing Suleman's files, Anderson said.

Anderson said there's no indication that any of the information was distributed outside the hospital to the media.

Octomom fires free nursing service

Posted: 07:30 AM ET

Nadya Suleman, the Southern California woman who gave birth to octuplets in January, has fired a nonprofit group of nurses charged with helping care for her children, CNN affiliate KTLA has reported.

Suleman accused the nurses, from a group called Angels in Waiting, of spying on her to report her to child-welfare authorities, the affiliate reported Monday.

The group was working for free, the affiliate said. Suleman instead will rely on nurses whom she is paying, Suleman's attorney said.

She now has four of the octuplets at home, along with her six other children. The other octuplets remain in a hospital, which is discharging them two at a time to ease the adjustment.

Suleman - already a single mother with six young children - gave birth to the octuplets through in-vitro fertilization, fueling controversy. News of her collecting public assistance for some of her children also outraged many taxpayers.

Octomom brings home two of her babies home

Posted: 08:42 AM ET

Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to octuplets in January, brought two of her babies home from the hospital late Tuesday.

She brought the infants to her new house in La Habra, California. Members of the media and gawkers crowded the cul-de-sac, as news helicopters hovered overhead. Media swarmed the family's vehicle as it slowly made its way through the crowd, into the home's garage.

The babies discharged from the hospital were Noah Angel, known as Baby A, and Isaiah Angel, known as Baby C, according to the Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center.

The medical team that delivered the babies identified them by letters of the alphabet. On discharge, Noah weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces, and Isaiah weighed 5 pounds, the hospital said in a news release.

"Both infants are able to bottle feed, are gaining weight and are able to maintain their body temperature," the release said.

Octomom showered with gifts from Dr. Phil

Posted: 10:02 AM ET

The Southern California mother of octuplets was given a baby shower of sorts on television's Dr. Phil show, with cribs, bunk beds, upgrades to her new home and nursing help to care for her 14 children – all provided free of charge.

Various providers appeared before Dr. Phil McGraw's applauding studio audience to pledge their help creating a safe, clean home for Nadya Suleman's 14 children.

Suleman said she's grateful for the help, which is to include a new nursery, new flooring and other construction upgrades in the La Habra (Orange County) home she intends to live in with her children.

The fixes are being made in order to prepare the home for inspections from hospital officials, which determine whether the house is suitable for children, according to McGraw.

Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center spokeswoman Beth Trombley said she and a social worker from the hospital walked through the house Wednesday to provide recommendations, but would not specify what they were.

First of Octuplets Going Home Soon

Posted: 08:55 AM ET

Octuplets mother Nadya Suleman shared details of the impending homecoming of her babies with TV viewers – and admitted that her decision to have eight additional children, when she already had six, didn’t make sense.

"It wasn’t a realistic thing to do," she told Dr. Phil on a segment of his show Tuesday. "I wasn’t thinking rationally at the time."

On the show, Suleman, 33, revealed that the first two of her octuplets would be coming home in a few days, once her recently-purchased home in La Habra, Calif., is ready for her massive brood. She explained that she’s going to have the den of her four-bedroom house transformed into a nursery. For the first few months, only four cribs will be used, each one holding two infants in an effort to promote bonding between the siblings.
