Is President Obama a Christian?
Where does he worship?
Where does he receive the Sacriments?
Are his children Baptised?
Is America a Christian Nation?
The next President I vote for must be a Christian.

As the Palestian refugee said:
"I cam to America because of the money"
When asked if he came to get rich, he said:
"No, I came because your money sates 'In God we trust!' ."
Do we?

Nancy of NY   November 16th, 2010 10:36 pm ET

Patrick Trinity@ as my kids would say get some facts. Why are Christian any better than a Muslim or Jewish people ? When did you last read the Bible ? Religion has more to do with politic and nothing to do with God. The Crusader would shame Bin laden ten folds yet Christianity lived as it's not the religion that makes us evil.I would rather have a Muslim President than one that took our country to war based on lying to our service men and women who return home in body bags. Our beautiful young service men and women did not die to save our country they died because our Christian President Bush lied to us and invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Was this a Christian act ? The US has killed millions of innocent civilians.Alan Heart a BBC corespondent did a documentary on what took place. We were lied to Patrick. We did not invade Afghanistan because of 200 Talban we have more gangs in the States don't we? God bless America we need to wake..... and tea baggers are not the answer.

Anyaeji chudi   November 16th, 2010 10:57 pm ET

Its very unfair to call bush a liar and to compare him to a moslem. his action were all preemptive to save the american civilisation from being devastated all these events in iraq, afghanistan, and pakistan could have been at the very heart of the united states and i know very well that americans are spoilt because of their comfort and pleasures that they cant stand such evil acts take place in the U.S.A. so the military personnel's died in great and heroic defence of their father land. Pls lets be more analytical before we condemn George Bush

@Patrick Trinity @ Nancy of NY

both posts so pertinent and @Nancy of NY beautifully stated. I admire your candor.

We have, by design & intent, been led to the demonization of one particular religion. This has been done by special interests & those forces which are bent upon shoving us to a clash of civilizations.

These forces set this nation up for our invasion of Iraq, are bent upon perpetuating the ill conceived aimless Afghanistan misadventure and would do their best to drag us into a third Middle East conflagration if they are allowed to operate unchecked.

We do so need to wake up and stand up to the likes of Tea baggers, the extreme right demagogues, religious extremists and all those who preach the message of hate, racism, intolerance & religious persecution.
God bless America.

@ Anayej chudi

The Iraq disaster was initiated by laying a web of lies, half truths, propaganda whipping up hate, fear & paranoia.
5000 of our brave soldiers died, thousands maimed and scarred for life, a trillion dollars plus and counting of our national wealth squandered. 65000 innocent Iraqi civilian deaths ( our own estimates) who never meant to harm us and had nothing to do with 9/11.

Your statement referring to devastation of American civilization is at best laughable and tragic in the sense that some can be so detached
from reality.

@Nancy of NY has made a reference to Alan Hart's documentary.
I invite you to listen to this senior BBC correspondent's interview aired in May of 2010 and now on Youtube. This interview revolves around 9/11 attacks & is sure to open your eyes.

LE   November 17th, 2010 1:59 pm ET

The Iraq war was not only a lie, it is a lie that continues til this very day. Why would we attack a Country that had nothing to do with 9/11, it was like attacking Russia after Pearl Harbor.

Nana Brown   November 17th, 2010 10:48 pm ET

Before world war two Hitler started whipping up propaganda of fear and hatred against the Jewish people that they do not integrate with the Germans, learn the language and that they lived in ghettos and were thieves and were against true Christian values and life style (what ever that is) soon after this paranoia engulfed all of Germany and the rest of Europe ending with the Holocaust. What has the universities taught our leaders ?

The US has passed it's zenith. China, India, Asia, Brazil etc is poised to taking over the baton. This is an inevitable development, a business cycle if you allow normal trade & development to take its course. The bottom line is that wealth will be redistributed from west to east. Along with that military power & domination the world.
China and India will reign supreme with the west taking back seat. This the US is not prepared to accept. It will try to scuttle it or delay its process or try to fudge east/west traditional divide (create a global world) so it can better reap the benefits and become first among equal etc rather than accepting the back seat role that Asia has achieved that the West has relegated for centuries.
In it's pursuit the US will gamble on anything, war as we are seeing, spending trillions of dollars. The US is & has always been a ruthless superpower. It will not change but it will be subdued like other great empires before it. It is a natural, inevitable process.
What the US and it allies has been doing to date: Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, go back to Vietnam if you like & now wooing India is part & parcel of this very process. Create conflict, bring out war, death & destruction, create instability, exploit ethnic divide in order to reap resources & secure market. This process has served the US (the west) well & the British empire before that.... but the British empire fell because they were ruthless thieves that robed each country they invaded. The British and the Americans created Israel not because of love for the Jewish people but to keep them fighting with the Muslims this was deliberate and wicked. The British caused mischief where ever they could, between Pakistan and India by separating East Pakistan with West Pakistan 1000 miles between each other instead of giving Kashmir to Pakistan making one solid country. East Pakistan broke away in 1971 as expected with heavy loss of human life on both sides.

China and the India rise can be delayed but it cannot be stopped. What remains to be seen is how smooth or disruptive the process will be. India will not fall for the western trap again.

Britain was hoping to maintain world dominant position after the World War 2 but it lost power to the US without fighting. It was a cousin kind of handover, not disruptive, it left power with the west, Christian world. This time around the hand over is from Christian world to non-Christian. From white to non-white. It is the biggest change over of world power the world is witnessing. It is destined to be most disruptive but I believe China is just too smart, too powerful, too cultured to be able to avoid pitfall. I don't have that confidence in the Indians partly because of the nature of the people & partly because I believe the Chinese has a more effective political system.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, the US had a golden chance to become a responsible, benevolent world leader but squandered its chance. This was largely to do with concentration of power in the hands of the wealthy elite coupled with the flaw of western style democracy.
US and the West have several corrupt and puppet leaders starting from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the king of Jordon, Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan and this list goes on. It's matter of time these leaders will be toppled what then ? The puppet king of Iran with the strongest army in the Middle East with American back was toppled was he not? Iran is not a threat to the west or to Israel but is protecting it self from becoming the next Gaza or Lebanon is not paranoia but real fear.

@ LE I hope you will see the documentary by Alan Hart. Alan Hart is a senior BBC correspondent, his interview uncover all the myths we have been told.

@Nana Brown,

China is really hurting the world economy by their unwillingness to appreciate their currency (which is one reason for their high reserves). Funny how they take jobs from everywhere but couldn't care less about helping the countries who provide those jobs. That would be those jobs that are making a select few there wealthy since they still allow their citizens to work nearly for free. Not much to admire there.

Yes, the Cheney/Bush administration lied to everyone. However, it is much easier to use propaganda and rhetoric to those who are “believers” than those who truly have an independent thought. Not all Christians are Sheeple; however, if you have strong religious beliefs; often, not always, you would be easier to lead as religions are based in fear. This is exactly what happened in the 2004 Elections. The “Bible Belt” has become activated!!

Dodie   November 19th, 2010 11:12 pm ET

China’s unwillingness to appreciate their currency is a double edge sword. If they repress their currency as they are doing now, they can export more as our stereos, TVs, DVDs, etc costs the consumer less. If they appreciate their currency, I wonder what impact would that have on our over two trillion dollar debt with China! By the Way, China has appreciated their currency. Their RMB was 9 to the US dollar in 2005. Today it is around 6.50 to the American dollar meaning it has appreciated 1/3 in 5 years. Its nice to see you back on LKL. You seem to have mellowed out over time? lol

While today there are liberal clergy who preach a gospel of love, they ignore the bulk of Christian teachings, not to mention the bulk of Christian history or the crusade. All religion has been used as an addition of fear death, fear hell, women to be submissive and terrorizing people before Christianity no different to the Taliban's. One can only imagine how potent these threats seemed prior to the rise of science and rational thinking of today, which have largely robbed these bogeys of their power to inspire terror. But even today, the existence of the devil and hell are cardinal doctrinal tenets of almost all religions, the fundamentalist preachers still openly resort to terrorizing their followers with lurid, sadistic portraits of the suffering of nonbelievers after death. What are we seeing today in politic/religion is misguidance riddle with myths. This is not an attempt to convince through logic and reason; it is not an attempt to appeal to the better nature of individuals; rather, it is an attempt to whip the flock into line through threats, through appeals to a base part of human nature—fear and cowardice. Remember the fear we all felt after 911? I felt I could cry no more but life went on regardless of our horrible loss. We were made to fear Sadam Husain and his WMD, that Bush had hard evidence because he was talking to God for guidance and sent our beautiful young men and women to fight between good and evil. Bush was fighting a crusade and the axes of Evil. ( who was evil ?) But Iraqi had nothing to do with 911, the terrorist came from Saudi Arabia so we are told. This is like bombing Canada to stop drugs coming in from Mexico. It was alright to terrorise and killed millions of innocent civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan trying to catch few Saudi Arabian terrorist? " What has changed terrorizing helpless children through grisly depictions of endless horrors. All of these children were trusting of adults, and they did not have the ability to analyze what they were being told; they were simply helpless victims, who, ironically, victimized following generations in the same manner that they themselves had been victimized." (Tracts for Spiritual Reading, by Rev. J. Furniss, C.S.S.R.):
Arrogance is a chosen-people mentality or the almighty, the self righteous etc labeling others heathens, nonbelievers, infidels, atheistic, Communists these sets ups are nothing more than fear tactic of self superiority. This has nothing to do with God but more about man manipulating for his own gain. When will we wake up and take our own responsibility as humans on earth? What are we going to leave or children & grand kids? We are squandering trillions of dollars on war that should have never taken place. Human suffering is the same regardless of who we are.
Alan Hart's a senior BBC correspondent's interview answers all the myths to the puzzle can be seen either on BBC archive or on YouTube.
God bless America we are in need of wisdom.

Hi Dodie! I appreciate your comments as usual; mine are not appreciated by some folks.

You can have an opinion, but don't rock the boat or it won't get posted. Freedom of speech is a right, but freedom to censor is the way to eliminate that right.

Some folks don't even stick to the topic at hand but get their crazy comments accepted. Where is the commitment to being fair and balanced?
