Tonight on Larry King Live!

Posted: 01:00 PM ET

Bob Woodward takes us inside “Obama’s Wars”.

Will his revealing new book renew the

debate over U.S. involvement in Afghanistan?

Plus, the president’s candid statement

about another terror attack on the U.S.!

Obama told Bob Woodward that he thinks the U.S. could absorb another terror attack. Do you agree with this statement?

Weigh in below.

When Larry goes, I go! I cannot believe you are canceling Larry King Live! Have you lost your mind?

Nina   September 29th, 2010 9:05 pm ET

Deeply touching when President Obama was willing to experience the pain and grief of the affected families from the wars. It certainly shows President Obama's humanitarian side

Blair anderson   September 29th, 2010 9:11 pm ET

To say we 'absorbed' 9/11 is the biggest mistake we could make. It undercuts the fact we went on to fight, all suffered from the heightened security, and altered the course of history for better or worse. Statements like these also embolden our enemies to attack in such a way that we can't 'absorb' the next one.

Bob   September 29th, 2010 9:12 pm ET

He has not "lost his mind" he probably has had a change of heart and does not want to follow the "status quo" anymore. 🙂

Rand spokane wa.   September 29th, 2010 9:12 pm ET

Bob Woodward, does the President believe the war on terror can be won militarily ?

Chaney. La.   September 29th, 2010 9:13 pm ET

I do agree with the statement, wether we like to admit it or not the truth is, we are vulnerable to another attack.. just hope it isnt a nuclear attack.

New Yorker   September 29th, 2010 9:14 pm ET

As we painfully did with Pearl Harbor, as the Russians and British painfully did during WWII, as Israel has, we as a strong, resiliant nation can absorb terrible blows and continue forward. As an American, and a New Yorker, I know we can and we will preservere.

Jorge   September 29th, 2010 9:18 pm ET

I believe that our administration is capable enough to handle the threat and actions of terrorists attacks in our country. The only thing that we have to worry about is the information handling that happens with in our intelligence community. Data must be analyzed and scrutinized and handled bypartizan. Because I believe that with the right info Obama will make the right decision to secure our country. Smart people are in our administration and I am confident that we can over come all security threats to our nation.

Casy   September 29th, 2010 9:18 pm ET

Just a little humor for everyone.............Mr. Woodward's tie matches Larry's suspenders......what a coincidence.

Rand spokane wa.   September 29th, 2010 9:18 pm ET

Larry I think the only way to really win this war on terror is to somehow change the way these terrorist think, in other words to fight an idea with an idea.

anne fletcher   September 29th, 2010 9:19 pm ET

Why isn't President Obama referred to properly as President Obama?
VP Joe Biden is not referred to as Biden. Former President Clinton is not referred to as Bill. America elected President Barack Obama,

Jim   September 29th, 2010 9:19 pm ET

I don't know if absorb is an accurate representation, but yes I think Mr. Obama is correct in the intent of his comment. America would endure another attack would be a more more accurate statement. Maybe he was tired from campaigning. He's usually more precise in his comments.

Dodie   September 29th, 2010 9:20 pm ET

The war on terrorism is based in ideology. For that reason, there is no winning. Maybe we need to shift our paradigm into one of "controlling" instead of winning. We will continue to create more hatred for this country as we continue to kill innocent bystanders and disrupt lives on other's land.

vic nashville tn   September 29th, 2010 9:24 pm ET

Republicans or democrats handle our enemies same way I don’t know why republicans think they are better

Bob   September 29th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

"Obama: U.S. can "absorb" another attack" foreshadowing another false flag before election is over?

Dodie   September 29th, 2010 9:27 pm ET

Highly intelligent presidents like Obama have always made the public nervous. Look at Adlai Stevenson governor of Illinois and Democratic candidate for President in 1952 and 1956.

Michelle   September 29th, 2010 9:34 pm ET

America cannot 'absorb' another attack any more than a woman could 'absorb' a rape. Very poor choice of words by President Obama.

Kathy   September 29th, 2010 9:34 pm ET

911 was absorbed.....wasn't it? We have to toughen-up it's going to happen. We did not blame George Bush we cannot blame Obama. If we, in the USA, want oil.....get ready.

Aubrey, FL   September 29th, 2010 9:37 pm ET

I agree that the US "could absorb" another terror attack but, what will President Obama think if the terror attack is on Washington, D.C., the White House, or our totally out of control congress? Will his opinion change if major harm comes to his front door?

Dodie   September 29th, 2010 9:38 pm ET

With 9/11 most unfortunately the US just joined the rest of the world pertaining to Terrorism!

Susan Graham   September 29th, 2010 9:43 pm ET

I do agree with President Obama and I am glad to hear him stand up for the American people. Of course they can absorb another terrorist attack. Not that it would not be horrific and not that it would be acceptable. But would it destroy them as a nation? I don't think so. Would it knock them off their feet for a while? Yes, probably. Who would not react to unthinkable and senseless violence that way? But would it knock them down for the count? I don't think so. America is an awesome country, brave, resilient and persistent. They would rise again. And again. And again. That is what makes the Americans great.

a z khan   September 29th, 2010 9:45 pm ET

BOB and PRESIDENT meeting shows clearly that OBAMA fell helpless before HAWKISH around him ,before he looses war he surrendered himself to WAR.WAR which is without any objective, undetermined consequenss taking lives of brave AMERICAN soldiers dying for WHAT when one day you will be out.You cannot win unless like british who stayed 100 years after conquering.

Kendra   September 29th, 2010 9:46 pm ET

Not if it's nuclear.

Dodie   September 29th, 2010 9:47 pm ET

@ Larry

Thank you for having Bob Woodward on your show. I just purchased his book tonight! Looking forward to reading it.

Rand spokane wa.   September 29th, 2010 9:49 pm ET

Our nation could handle another attack of course, but If a weapon of mass destruction were to be used this country and this world will never think about our lives the same way again. Our sense of security would be gone I beleive.

Dolly   September 29th, 2010 9:50 pm ET

I think it is high time we support our President's efforts and not try to nit pick every word he utters. I believe he would do everything under his power to protect his country and people who make this country. What he is saying is that Americans are brave people and if worse happens we will handle it like we always have handled our problems very bravely as one nation.

Nina   September 29th, 2010 9:52 pm ET

It just breaks my heart to hear of 4 suicides from soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas. We, as a country, must ask ourselves, what the heck are we doing to our young men and women who volunteer selfishly due to pride, desire to protect their homeland and for income due to the economic depression.

For someone to experience such profound, deep scaring and emotional pain in which they ultimately end their lives, is such a tragedy. Lets just take a minute and experience what these individuals might have been feeling. Continued, relentless images of death, destruction of the human body they were apart or victim of, a sense of unrealistic responsibility for their comrade's safety and lives, the guilt they could not change anything along with the deep depression because they no longer have the ability to cope with the omnipresent horrific experience related with a war experience.

I am mortified how we continue with wars on others' land at the emotional, physical and death suffered by all soldiers involved not to mention the innocent bystanders of the host country. It is seldom discussed exactly how many soldiers commit suicide due to the horrific emotional pain. The Army reported 11 suicides of Fort Hood soldiers in 2009 and 14 suicides in 2008. I would like to see each and every politician who advocates war on others' land be handed a M-16 and sent to the front lines for an attitude adjustment!!!!!

News watcher   September 29th, 2010 9:53 pm ET

Great show tonite Larry – finally some truth on the White House !!

Larry   September 29th, 2010 9:58 pm ET

I heard Mr. Woodward mention that the Generals would not give President Obama alternatives. Does anyone realize that in the early years of the Clinton Administration, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) was changed to make it a punishable offense to make disparaging remarks about the military leadership (including the Commander-in-Chief? And further, that in the early years of the G. W. Bush Administration, the UCMJ was changed again to make it a court-martial offense for anyone to DISAGREE with the leadership (to include the Commander-in-Chief?

I wonder why no military personnel will give the Commander-in-Chief alternatives to his stated objectives?

Nina   September 29th, 2010 9:58 pm ET

Good Night Larry! Excellent show as usual.

JM   September 29th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

The U.S. might be able to absorb another terrorist attack, but would the rest of the world be ready.

Terry Avery   September 29th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

I agree with the President. And we won't be so nice the next time.

Dodie   September 29th, 2010 10:03 pm ET

Wonderful Show Larry. Nice to hear the truth about President Obama for a change, and a glimpse into the man behind the presidency who is a decent, caring and intellectual man.

Thanks Larry

rj   September 29th, 2010 10:13 pm ET

This McCarthy-ite McTerrorist scare under every rock in Afghanistan and under our beds here at home is a false fear fest fed by our government’s unending quest for power
and surveillance over all…

These wasteful wars in the middle east are physically and politically
unsustainable….ultimately the whole thing will be considered a
Giant money pit…the drones ..the laser guided bomb clones…just PULL

Vicky   September 29th, 2010 10:18 pm ET

We could absorb another attack if we do not change our way of thinking regarding the Muslim religion. And we do not win a war as long as sons and daughters get killed or permanently injured. We need to learn from Muslims and fight our wars peacefully.

Doug   September 29th, 2010 11:45 pm ET

There is no way the US could absorb a terrorist attack. If the Times Square bomber would have been successful the country would have collapsed and ceased to exist

Pauline   September 30th, 2010 12:19 am ET

Very good show Larry! Candid comments. Sadly, I could not hear the majority of it due to sound interferences throughout. Every word heard was cut in half, and the remainder was not heard at all. Someone should be monitoring these shows so correction could be made.

Barb   September 30th, 2010 12:29 am ET

I believe there will be other attempts – why would our enemies stop trying? – and some may be successful. And yes, we will deal with them.

IKHAN   September 30th, 2010 12:56 am ET

Great show Larry
@ Nina

Very aptly put. Most would agree with what you say.

President Obama perhaps inherited the most difficult job a presidency could offer. No other world leader would covet such a responsibility.
His task has been made well nigh undoable by forces both in our body politic and general public which have just one objective in mind regardless of the good of this country- to see him relinquish the 'White'House.
The fight against terror in its scope & dimensions, by design I might add, could become 'the clash of civilizations'.

There are those in this country who out of ignorance ,driven by propaganda, by self serving interests or other dubious motives are clandestinely or openly working to divert focus from an international effort to"" FIGHT" terrorism to an American ""WAR" against Islam.

This fellow bloggers is extremely unwise,to say the least.

We could and still can contain the handful of terrorists who are holding this country hostage, draining us of precious lives & treasure. But to get to that point the American public has to purge itself of paranoia fed by lobbies & special interests into our psyche and scoot out of the shadow of the propagandists.

Smith in Oregon   September 30th, 2010 1:14 am ET

It is refreshing to hear a man whose creditability is highly respected echoing many of the same statements I have made here in the LKL blogs and on other areas across the internet.

With General Petraus openly stating the Karzai clan including Hamid Karzai's brother who is widely alleged to be 'THE' major Heroin exporter in all of Afghanistan, ARE CORRUPT. How long is it going to take for the Republican lawmakers and Tea Bagger's to hear him?

Contrary to Bob Woodsworth's comment that begrudgingly stated 'no president wants a war', A South American president siting down in a face to face meeting with newly elected President George W. Bush jr. is on public record and video taped stating 'Wars are Good for the Economy'. The South American President reminded Bush jr. there were no current wars in his country to which Bush jr. SMILED. The South American President quickly excused himself privately stating the evil coming off Bush jr. could be physically 'felt' at that moment.

Germany sent a team of saboteurs into America to blow up various infra-structures in America. Upon successfully entering into America the Nazi team realized the utter futility of such actions in actually slowing down America's WW2 efforts. Shortly thereafter they were discovered, arrested and jailed.

Yes, given the above example by actual saboteurs during a world war who themselves came to that conclusion I would agree with President Obama's assessment.

However there is a caveat, when the Soviet Union fell apart leaving hundreds of thousands of highly trained nuclear and biological weapons designers, engineers, biologists and technicians, quite a number of them took various items out of the highly secure military facility's they worked in and presumably sold them on the black market to the highest bidders.

A few grams of pure Plutonium would entirely destroy the total fresh water distribution system of New York city. A tiny amount of the several extremely dangerous biological weapons developed by the USSR could with relative ease be used to seed the growth of many pounds of the same organism without all of the engineering and development which initially went into producing that biological agent. Even in the most repressive police state, such items would be entirely likely to be successfully placed wherever the terrorist wanted to put those terror-able weapons.

Such an attack would certainly cause widespread concern but it likely wouldn't directly effect much of the United States which is how I read President Obama's comment on 'absorbing a terrorist attack'. Many entire country's in the world aren't even the size of Texas and the American people have a long history of overcoming adverse conditions across America.

Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia   September 30th, 2010 1:41 am ET

O please not another attack.
We want America to be safe.
We also do not want innocent, normal Muslims to be blamed if it happens.
We do not want another round of Islamic phobia.

Hessel meilech   September 30th, 2010 2:15 am ET

Larry King for the first time in 25 years asked profound interesting questions like Charlie Rose. To concentrate I taped the show to get away from the inane adverts which should be shown at the beginning and end of the show.
President Obama shows no enthusiasm for the war. The lessons of history shows that the English, the strongest army the world has ever known ,Russia could not subdue Afghanistan. America is supporting a bunch of thugs which is morally indefensible. Our soldiers are dying for a lost cause. Altogether including 9/11 over 9000 Americans have died . We are now almost out of Iraq and over 4000 Americans have died for nothing. We have to formulate a tough new strategy to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. We either have to win or get out.
We no longer can afford these costly adventures while Americans have no jobs.Otherwise we will be like Rome where economic ruin led to the destruction of the empire.

Linda   September 30th, 2010 2:37 am ET

There are many kinds of attacks on this country that are possible. Some attacks or a serious of simultaneous attacks could not be absorbed. Plus he has bankrupted the country and that poses an even greater security risk. Stating that we can absorb an attack is an emotionally detached viewpoint and also indicates that he depends on the ignorance of Americans who aren't well informed. Perhaps he would think differently if his own family had to experience the attacks!

Evelyn Cannestra   September 30th, 2010 3:42 am ET

I spent 4 years in Saigon during the devastation of a real war.

Please clarify the real meaning of President Obama's "US can absorb another terrorist attack for us ordinary American citizens.l

Does he mean that Americans – like those in New York mouring the innocent dead of September 11th – should accept the grief of another slaughter of their loved ones? Does he mean that he is prepared to have this absorption begin with the demise of his own family?

Why do I feel his commitment as President/Commander-in-chief should be to a strong strategy to defeat terrorism BEFORE it destroys our country? That gets my vote.

Betty S.   September 30th, 2010 5:13 am ET

Let us ALL pray for President Obama's protection, good health and strength!! By using the word "absorb" I believe he meant that America would not be destroyed–for we are resilient and resourceful people! It appalls me that the media airs so much information that could give even the "would be terrorists" ideas! Certain parts of the conversation between President Obama and Bob Woodward should never have been aired!! e.g. – the thought of an attack on public transportation, etc.! We as citizens of this country have got to get back to working TOGETHER for the COMMON GOOD of all of America! Our president has been elected to lead this country and he has done a very good job with the hand that he's been dealt. He has accomplished more in this short period of time than any other president - check his record so far! But there are those who clearly work AGAINST ANYTHING that he tries to do!! One-and-a-half-years in office and the Republicans have been the party of "NO" to every good thing President Obama tries to do. Their mission is to disrupt, sabotage, negatively influence, disrespect the President and control the country! When they WERE in control, they didn't speak against President Bush, and his administration was a disaster from the beginning! Those Senators and Congressmen/Women who are against the healthcare bill–are they willing to give up their FREE healthcare? There are people earning less money that they do who have NO healthcare! Those Democrats who are “jumping ship” have NO backbone. If the people of America don't work together for the good of this country, we will continue to slide down this slippery slope! Wake up America–for "together, we stand, divided, we fall."

Jane Landers   September 30th, 2010 9:48 am ET

After watching this extraordinary interview I can only say that the president came across as sincere but incompetent. Woodward practically begged Colin Powell to step up and help. It's pretty clear that our ernest but inexperienced president has not properly surrounded himself with experience and support. Woodward said more than once "the president needs help."

Very scary.

Ted   September 30th, 2010 10:17 am ET

@ Nina

It is a pleasure to read a comment so full of understanding, I can second your motion.
I would like to correct you in one point: "our soldiers joining to defend our country".

Yes, they do, because they are brainwashed on a daily base that how we must kill our enemies in their own country, before they have the chance to come here. Keeping our nation in constant fear our politicians can do things that has nothing to do with defending the country.
I must remind you that since 1941 we were never attacked by a single foreign military force, however we keep attacking countries that do not have the desire or the capability to attack us. Do you think Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, etc. had any intention of doing us harm? Our soldiers die or are maimed not by defending our country, but by attacking and killing innocent people, mostly women and children. Why did we kill about 3 million human beings in the Vietnam war, were they ready to invade us?

As far as 9/11 goes, that was commited by a group of disenchanted arabs from countries friendly to us, such as Saudi Arabia, supervised by the Mossad. You can You Tube this under Kevin Barret BBC interview with Alan Hart. This is the biggets coverup sham of the last hundred years and it is still being used to keep us in fear so we can keep bombing other nations.

We can stop the terrorist arracks by withdrawing from ALL moslem land, closing all military bases in Europe and Asia and letting other people live their own lives. Simple and doesn´t cost a penny and meanwhile we save billions on useless military expenses.

Ted   September 30th, 2010 10:35 am ET

It is always a pleasure to listen to Bob Woodward.

Only in one point I have a different opinion on our President.
He is fair, intelligent and meant to do all what he promised, but he is just too weak to withstand the pressure of wested interests and the AIPAC. It takes more to run a country than give great speeches.

He had the chance to get out of Afghanistan, we all know it is another Vietnam for us, a war that cannot be won, yet he followed Bush´s stupid idea of sending more troops to die. It is his war now and when we run for cover sooner or later, it will go down in history as his failure. One must know when it is time to admit failure and defeat and get our before they throw us out. Just remember the russian withdrawal and the massacker of british a century earlier.
Noone since Alexander the Great could occupy that country, so why do we think we are better?

Colin Powell disappointed many of us by lying in front of the UN, although he knew there are no such weapons in Iraq as claimed by Bush. He lost all respect he earned over the years.
He should stay hiding, with 67 years he is just too old to come out and who would ever trust him in the NATO and other allied nations. A lier is always a liar.

LE   October 3rd, 2010 4:21 pm ET

Of course we can absorb an attack, we may not want another attack, but we will survive.

Tom Davis   October 3rd, 2010 9:07 pm ET

World super power being held hostage with fear.

GK Germain   October 3rd, 2010 9:22 pm ET

Wonder what makes me think that Bob doesn't like his President, nor what his President is doing. Hmmmm?

nina1fox   October 3rd, 2010 9:25 pm ET

@ LE

I concur with your statement. We certainly do not want another attack, but we can handle it.

Tom Davis   October 3rd, 2010 9:27 pm ET

We can not absorb a number of Columbine type terrorist attack.

No mother would send their children to school the next day after this kind of attack.

JOe   October 3rd, 2010 9:33 pm ET

Cant the US absorb another terror attack? Hell Yes! Not a question in my mind. Terror attacks are nothing. People over react to them but the country can roll with the punches.

Rick   October 3rd, 2010 9:36 pm ET

Of course we could absorb another attack. If we can't then we are not the super power we think we are.

oby   October 3rd, 2010 9:49 pm ET

another attack is going to happen no matter what we do no matter how much we tighten are security but is it worth toughing are security to the point ware every day lives are being affected? is wasting billions and attacking people in foreign country's because propaganda has brainwashed are people into believing they are in constant danger really going to stop terrorism? the more and more deeper we sink into this thought that every thing needs to be controlled to keep us safe is just giving are government more and more power over every one of us individuals, this pattern is moving at an exponential rate if we dont stop this now we will surly become a true police state in just a few years. politicians are always going to abuse there power so we can never guarantee that the government will use all of the power we give them to protect us instead we will unknowingly be slaves, we are no longer free. free is now just an illusion. none are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free." (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe). the best way to stop terrorism is to stop terrorizing the people who are terrorizing us. they hate the USA because they dont know us truly, they have never seen are homeland only the soldiers the relentlessly invade there land and there homes. why else would the think that america is satin!

nina1fox   October 3rd, 2010 10:00 pm ET

@ oby

I agree with some of what you said. However, I just flew from Seoul Korea to Los Angeles, and instead of taking off..... they unloaded everyone on the plane and rechecked our carry-on baggage. What I am saying, other countries are very careful in times of terrorists. Maybe the biggest difference is that people of other countries do not seem to be afraid of terrorists; whereas, many Americans are living in fear. There is a lot of difference between being very cautious and careful and continually fearful!

Linda Hargrove   October 4th, 2010 12:22 am ET

Has any of you read the karon bible that the president is a beliver in it states that if any life is taken of a beliver the person responcible will be punished and killed and never go to heaven. So if the president does not stop the war he will be torchered by his own clan.
It also dtates he has to hate and kill all the infidiles which is anyone who is not a muslam. read the book. It is their Bible.

Let the news men ask these questions! they wont Why?

Nana   October 4th, 2010 12:34 am ET

Bob Woodward is always a pleasure to hear because he is one of the few men in the media that is still honest and not afraid to speak the truth. Sadly President Obama has inherited Bushes wars. No one has won this war and we forget it broke up the Soviet Union not that many years back.
We have lost this Bush's war bring our men and women home.

Adam Sheedy   October 4th, 2010 12:46 am ET

The U.S. has been absorbing terrorist attacks since 1994. At the rate those men had planned there can't be much more absorbtion to occur before they just don't attack us because they are us. No one in the intelligence community will affirm this asessment. But the divide between them and thier best sources is expansive. They are only seeming to catch terrorists that where failing anyway. If they hatch a new sophisticated attack we have to be looking when it hapens, or we will be shock and awed. The attitude of absorbtion scares me. It is detatched and undercritical. It lacks the will to investigate threats. The U.S. ignores the real threats because of AL Qaeda's couter intelligence forses. i have experience which confirms this. The U.S. doesn't hold onto it's real asets with any sense of loyalty. With all I have witnessed we where doomed in the beginning, when our leaders made wrong decisions, before. I pray (seriously; I pray) that we can get out of this darkage that our elite has created for themselves. this war is destroying this country from the inside out. I guess since they couldn't defend themselves from the opputunity created by thier weakness to doplegangers, we have to absorb it. lol, i hate this.

brian   October 4th, 2010 1:10 am ET

President Obama gives a time line to be out of Afganistan; gives his opinion on the side of a mosque being built on ground zero which is nothing other than a monument for the terrorist" talking with empty words; no border control; bowing to other leaders and his empty threats to Iran may result in an attempt or actual terrorist attack.

Yes we can absorb a future attack because we are America and we are strong but America wants action to divert any possbile terrorist attack by using all means of the military including all arsenal. Terrorists only understand strength.. The president is decreasing our strength by keeping us seriously underwater in debt.

By the way, when is the last time anyone has heard the president speak on capturing Osama bin Laden?

Ray Bilodeau   October 4th, 2010 3:24 am ET

The problem we have isn't our President doing a bad job,it is Americans being shallow and forgetting that the cost of war is hard on this nation, sure we could take another attack and still go on, we are America!,
But the continued fighting over a place and a people that seem to have no spine themselves for self governance, makes our efforts seem like a waste of life and resources.
I think he meant by the "absorb" comment, that we are tough and able to take what ever is thrown at us, and remain strong, and still find our strength of spirit to do the right thing.
maybe the media folks need to remember that the news cycle is never actually over anymore and the way that the single word and the split second thought get twisted and over analysed, and the partisan hate from the far right has turned a very national unifying event (the war) into its own patriotism and "us or them" purge and they really don't care about winning, just escalation and the profits that come with war. Nobody wants this war, but the extremists have made many Americans believe that the true test of Americanism, is love of war and greed. Maybe Obama is trying to remind us that is not the value system our founding fathers built this nation on.
Maybe it's time our leadership from the far right and the far left acted adult and tried to actually help and not just whine and create more chaos things might improve?

Cordelle Potter   October 4th, 2010 6:32 am ET

Yes America can absorb another attack because thier back is

Ted   October 4th, 2010 10:30 am ET

@ brian

And just how would you stopp a terrorist from blowing up a building or a bridge? Do you remember McVey, he did not come from an arab land, nor did the U. bomber.

Terrorists come in all sizes, nationalities and religions. They don´t wear an uniform, have no specific location or meeting points.
We are constantly bombing Pakistan now, but killing mostly civilians, women and children.

As far as bin Laden goes, he is most likely dead and just a symbol figure like Lenin was for the communists. The CIA keeps putting out pictures of him, yet anyone with a good eye can see that those are from different persons.
He is used to keep us in fear.

IKHAN   October 4th, 2010 6:29 pm ET

sadly & unfortunately for this nation, the opinion & the mindset that you represent has & is leading us down the path to a bottomless pit of endless cycle of wars & violence.
After losing thousands of precious American lives , thousands more maimed & scarred for life, rising suicides in the military, scandals of torture & corruption, some among us refuse to learn lessons or to check what history tells us.
And for what ? Disastrous, misdirected & ill concieved wars with no end or a sembelance of victory in sight.

Trillions of American tax payers dollars down a sink hol & counting.

Hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths, whole region turned into smoldering , volatile breeding ground for terrorism & hatred for America.
No strategic gains to speak of.
This policy concieved during the Bush-Cheney era of infamy is to be considered one of the greatest follies committed in our history.
The same mind set aided by propaganda & pressure from lobbies & special interests is trying to push us into a third war.

President Obama is a leader, with the intelligence to put things in correct perspective, devoid of unwarranted & unwanted arrogance, with honesty of purpose & without the long ingrained biases the old guard comes stamped with.It is discouraging though to see him surrounded by the same 'old guard'.

He has to be the leader that times like these produce. I just wish & hope that he gets the time & the elbow room to steer mattershis way.

By the way it was President bush who gave up on Osama Bin Laden a long time back.

IKHAN   October 5th, 2010 12:17 am ET

well said.

the Islamic Community center in lower manhattan is a non issue trumped up & kept alive by self serving political interests.

As for the 9/11 crime of the century against America & Americans and the massive cover up, BBC senior correspondent Alan Hart's interview given to Kevin Barret on BBC ( now available on Youtube) raises serious questions on what the American public has been led to believe.
What the rest of the world always thought & a large number of Americans suspected is reflected in that interview.

The golbal fight aginst terrorism should remain that effort which has Muslim countries fighting alongside the International community and has Muslims dying too.

Those who advocate America declaring a war against Islam are wittingly or unwittingly undermining these efforts and jeopardizing American interests worldwide.

Even a leader as unwise as President Bush had realized this and made efforts to make it a part of the stated policy.

President Obama's clearer perceptions of this issue are rightly & wisely guiding him.

Terrorism has to be understood, tackled and eliminated by tackling and eliminating the root causes. Not just by use of our 'arsenal' which is getting us nowhere.
