Foundation created in honor Yeardley Love

The family of Yeardley Love has created a new charity in her honor.

The One Love Foundation seeks to “encourage and develop in children and young adults four qualities of character that Yeardley exemplified,” according to Love’s mother, Sharon.

She said those qualities include service, kindness, humility and sportsmanship.

Love , a University of Virginia lacrosse player, was found beaten to death in her apartment in May.  Her former boyfriend has been charged with first-degree murder.

Love’s aunt, Debbie McChesney, wrote to us at Larry King Live blog about the foundation and about Yeardley and had this to say:

Today, the One Love Foundation: In Honor of Yeardley Reynolds Love announced the launch of its website www.joinonelove.org.

The goal of the Foundation is to honor Yeardley by supporting the causes where, if given the chance, she surely would have made a difference.  Many people have written about Yeardley in the past couple of months.  The words we read repeatedly described Yeardley as kindhearted, generous, funny; the nicest, sweetest, happiest girl you ever met. “You are an inspiration and touched so many lives,” is the sentiment shared by so many in their notes and comments.

The same characteristics that inspired these wonderful words also inspired us to develop the One Love Foundation.  Ultimately the goal is to “bring out the Yeardley in everyone”.

Yeardley’s mom, Sharon, found the following quote from Marcel Proust and felt that it reflected Yeardley’s spirit and the way she will be remembered by all who knew her:

"Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."

I believe we can absorb another attack. We have to take the high road like the British in WWII. They don't have a yearly remembrance for the nights of bombing by the Nazis. They have moved on. We need to unite and show a united front, this should give the terrorists something to think about; show them we are not afraid.
