After the hurricane is gone, where do people put all that plywood?

Dodie   September 2nd, 2010 9:32 pm ET

@ Larry

I just wanted to say, over the years, I have thoroughly enjoyed your charisma, respectful demeanor and excellence in your person and interviewing techniques.

You are (((stellar)))

I wanted to express this tonight as I understand you will be retiring very soon and I fly out in a few hours from LAX to Korea and then eventually on to China. I am not sure if I will be back before you retire or have the ability to connect to CNN when in those areas.

Thank You Larry for all your years of dedication! – Dodie

Hi Larry

If anyone can help promote peace I think it will be Obama. Whenever Americans stray into other countries it takes a Clinton or a Carter to get them out. It is never a Republican. The United States lost the worlds respect and credibility under the Republicans.

Terri from Atlanta   September 2nd, 2010 11:25 pm ET

Larry, I hope you will be doing many, many specials for CNN.
I want to see you as much as possible. No one can fill your shoes.
I will miss you more than you can imagine. You are THE BEST!
I've enjoyed your show so much over the years. Thank you!

With Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and George Mitchell actively meeting and working with the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian people, America has a outstanding opportunity to push thru the obstacles and setbacks which have repeatedly derailed peace talks and the final drafting of a honest and lasting peace treaty between Israel and Palestine.

I'm certain Hillary Clinton is fully aware of the points and how close her husband former President Bill Clinton came to having a peace treaty signed between Israel and Palestine and armed with that information and background is able to roll up her sleeves and forge ahead in the process.

A successful peace treaty being signed would signal yet another outstanding legacy for President Obama and I certainly hope the Republican party finds their humanity at least briefly to applaud his administrations victory should that occur.

It is ironic that the Israelis continue building settlements in Gaza as the peace-talks are going on.

Angela in Orlando   September 3rd, 2010 7:22 am ET

Great interview with Ralph Branca....what a great story to tell...WHY would you only give 10 minutes to that interview. Larry, you said you would bring him back, and you should.....this story needs to be told....

IKHAN   September 3rd, 2010 1:04 pm ET

Hi Larry,
while we Americans should earnestly hope that the Israeli-Palestinian issue is resolved peacefully as it is linked to our vital geo-political interests, optimism about the current talks is low.
As long as the Jewish settlements continue in the occupied territories and the Israeli ruling coalition has terrorist elements like the Shas party , achieving a long lasting peace seems difficult.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef of the Sash party has again declared that"Mehmood Abbas & the Palestinians should perish" and that" it is forbidden to show mercy to Arabs."

Gerald Jolly   September 3rd, 2010 1:09 pm ET

On the question that asks
Do you think there can be peace in the middle east.???

Read the Chameleon and understand the reason WHY NOT.

Gerald Jolly   September 3rd, 2010 1:15 pm ET

As long as Islamic Extremists are allowed to exist, there cannot be peace.

It's time for every christian person to understand that the only mission that a Muslim Islamic Extremist has is

Believe it, "THAT'S THE WAY IT IS"

IKHAN   September 4th, 2010 2:21 pm ET

Hi Larry,
@Gerald Jolly
you are right Exremism is what needs to be tackled..
Extremist & terrorist organizations exist in other faiths.
Be it the Jewish terrorist groups Kach, Shas,Igun,Lehi ,Kahane Chai etc vowing as their religious duty to annihilate Arabs. Some of these organizations have been identified & warned against by CIA. Or the Hindu terrorists in South India destroying churches & killing Christians vowing to get rid of Christian missionaries. The 'Christian Soldiers' militia on our soil plotting to kill Americans & use weapons of mass destruction.Or those fanatics in every faith who spew hate against other faiths from the pulpit.

The need of the hour is understand that humanity has to come together to fight terrorism & extremism in every faith.

Incidentlally I happen to read 'Approaching the Quran" written by a very respected christian, Michael Anthony Sells professor at Divinity School of University of Chicago & realized how misguided the criticism & hate we see now promoted against Islam is.
By doing this we are strengthening the hands of extremists everywhere.
For those elements who distort religion to serve their own nefarious agenda I quote fom their holy book the Quran:
Quran 2:62 & 5:69
"Surely those who believe & those who are Jews, and the Christians and the Sabians-whoever believes in God & the Last Day & does good they shall have their reward from from their Lord. And there will be no fear, nor shall they grieve".
Quran 5:82
"and nearest among in love to the believers will you find those who say" we are Christians" because among these are men devoted to learning & men who have renounced the world & they are not arrogant".

Very enlightening commentary and it will definitely inform those who are unaware and are tightly bound to listen to those on specific news networks that distort or never report what is hidden and yet so real. Take care my friend and keep informing. My apologies for not responding to your replies, but a situation of great importance presented itself and I had to take flight for a few days and comfort those in need and say a final farewell to a very close and dear friend and family member...caj

IKHAN   September 5th, 2010 1:25 pm ET

Hi Larry,
Good morning folks.

thanks. Hope your trip was successful. Final farewells especially to close friends & family members are always painful but a hard reality of life. May you take comfort from the memories which are never final.

I feel saddened when I read posts from otherwise knowledgeable & intelligent folks who seem driven by propaganda. This nation needs to get its act together and not drift to destructive eddies of racism, hatred , religious bigotry & intolerance.
Now I have yet to come across reports of any group declaring war against Christianity or Christians. AlQeda & Talibans percieve us -America as their enemy and always try to portray America waging war against Islam. This is what we have to negate not support.
Ironically it was President Bush who who despite his 'crusade' gaffe was most active in cultivating Muslim countries & convince Muslims that Islam was not an issue.
President Obama by following the same policy gets labeled a 'Muslim".

Cajazz76:24:8   September 6th, 2010 11:15 am ET

Thank you for your condolences IKHAN. You have always been a decent and understanding friend.

The complexities and idiosyncrasies of this silly human race is undeniably the cause and catalyst for our best and worst behaviors. IKHAN, take a few moments and phonically spell (ignorance) and see how many times you can create new spellings of that word. It will result in a rather lengthy list and in detail describes that no matter how you spell it, there will always be someone who thinks theirs is the greatest and truest, and they will always have someone who believes them no matter how STOOPID it sounds or equates.

Have a wonderful Labor Day and don't work your butt off.. Take care and thank you for always being my friend, regardless of my own ignurunts.... caj

According to the phylosophy of an Islamic Extremist.

Anyone not being one of them is considered "UNCLEAN" and therefore should be eliminated from the face of the world.

Instead of recruiting our young men to fight in an unjust and idiotic war
we should be training a special group of assassins whose only mission is to irradicate every Extremist by whatever means they may have at their disposal.

One at a time by one or two hundred well trained covert operatives would result in a much better end than putting mediocre trained young men in the field of battle.

The only problem with that scenario is that the ARMS INDUSTRY will not reap much profit from that.

When the people insist on their representatives "TRULY" representing their cause of justice and fairness and insist that their will be done, and investigate every representative that is taking bribe money from the ARMS INDUSTRY, then maybe, just maybe, our young people will not be sacrificed in the name of profit for the ARMS INDUSTRY.

The phylosophy of accepting collateral damage as a means to achieving victory by the GENERALS in the PENTAGON, is a sickness that has permiated our military for much to long.

Collateral damage has become an accepted way to wage war for the COWARDS that wear the stars on their epaulets, at the PENTAGON.

TERRORISM WILL COME TO AN END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gerald Jolly   September 6th, 2010 11:48 am ET

Final analysis.

Quote from General Westmoreland Vietnam 1968.

Gerald Jolly   September 6th, 2010 11:55 am ET

In the final analysis.

QUOTE: General Westmorland, VIETNAM 1968

I GUESS 57,000 + deaths was simply not enough to make us victorious in Vietnam.

Gerald Jolly   September 6th, 2010 1:41 pm ET

A famous quote from the most MORONIC Secretary of Defense in American History

Rummy Rumsfeld QUOTE: When you go to war you go with what you have "UNARMORED HUMVEES" are all that we have, so if a couple of hundred brave troopers die because that's all we have, "DONT WORRY" they are nothing more than "COLLATERAL DAMAGE"

Rummy was once an officer in the American Military

Certainly enough evidence for me.

IKHAN   September 7th, 2010 1:36 pm ET

Hi Larry,
Good morning folks.
Listen to what the BBC correspondent Kevin Barret has to say about the 9/11 attacks in his interview on BBC in May of 2010. Its on YouTube. An eye opener for Americans.
Regarding that wacko self styled 'pastor' T. Jones of Florida planning to burn the Quran on 9/11. Seems to me that he is planted by AlQaeda to promote their agenda. They thrive on this propaganda & recruit youngsters to fight against our troops, portraying America as waging war against Islam and all Americans as enemies of Islam/muslims.
now our troops & military commanders in Iraq & Afghanistan are fighting on two fronts – against insurgents & to win the hearts & minds of the general population. As when you invade a foreign land to fight selected elements, you cannot even imagine to succeed in you mission unless you win the general population to your side.
Gen. Patreus warned that this act of burning their holy book would endanger the lives of our troops deployed in Afghanistan & Iraq. I suggest that if even one American troop dies after this event 'pastor 'T.jones should be arrested & charged with aiding & abetting the enemy & conspiring to kill American troops.

R Ghoudsi   September 8th, 2010 6:29 pm ET

Hi Larry
I think the problem is not pastor Jones of Florida. It is the media.for giving him and his nonsence too much attention. It is obvious that he is looking for fifteen minutes of fame for himself and his church . I have never seen anyone as hateful and as unreasonable as him. I am just hoping that there is someone in his congregations with more senciblity than him. I have never seen any Muslim to burn the bible before.
