Powerful, enormous Earl bearing down on East Coast

Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina (CNN) - Hurricane Earl prepared to take a swipe at the Eastern Seaboard on Thursday as residents scrambled to ready themselves ahead of its arrival.

Hurricane warnings and watches stretched from North Carolina to Delaware and covered parts of Massachusetts.

President Obama is "closely monitoring" Earl's developments White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday. On Wednesday, Obama signed a disaster declaration for North Carolina authorizing the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate relief efforts. The order also makes federal funds available to states. Maryland's governor issued an emergency declaration earlier in the day.

The National Hurricane Center expects the storm, which is larger than California, to pass close to North Carolina's Outer Banks on Thursday night. It is expected to take aim at southeastern New England on Friday night. The storm's track shifted slightly to the west, closer to North Carolina's Cape Hatteras. The hurricane center has posted storm watches and warnings for areas as far north as Maine.

Officials in Dare County, North Carolina, issued mandatory evacuation orders Thursday for visitors to the coastal county, including the Outer Banks. It extended to residents in the town of South Nags Head and Hatteras Island. Dare County schools and courts are closed Thursday and Friday.

"Residents of Dare County have been through this many times," the county's emergency response coordinator, Warren Judge, told CNN's "American Morning." "And they have their own individual practices and procedures to get their homes and businesses secured and prepared for the oncoming storm. What we need to happen now is for the visitors to heed the warning, to evacuate."

At of 8 a.m., Earl's center was about 355 miles (570 kilometers) south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and about 820 miles south-southwest of Nantucket, Massachusetts. It was heading north-northwest at about 18 mph.

As long as America's leaders and those of the World turn a blind eye on the massive expanding deserts in Africa which Breeds these Hurricane's the America taxpayers will be held over the barrel of continuously pouring out ten's of Billions of emergency funding to rebuild States and areas pounded and devastated by these annual Hurricane's which appear to be strengthening due to warmer Ocean waters and more numerous due to the expanding desert's feeding the hot wind's which breed them.

America and the World is presently stuck with treating the symptoms that occur after being hit by a class 3 or 4 Hurricane instead of TREATING the disease itself, DIRECTLY.

If the World poured one year worth of the ten's of Billions of those annual funds spent EVERY year to repair Hurricane damages into reforestation of the African coastline and as far inland as possible with row after row of wind breaks, the frequency of Hurricanes born off the African coastline would drop considerably.

Treat the disease directly instead of annually treating the symptoms which are growing stronger and more frequently!!!

I live in Nova Scotia, and Mr. Earl will hit in less than 12 hours. I just came back from the beach, the waves are huge, however there is this calmness in the air...the calm before the storm. We are all prepared for the worse, but hoping for the best =) ...keep us all in your prayers!!

If obama was not protected by the policies of President Bush we would have been hit twice for sure and what about theMuslim solider that killed our Soliders here!!! ,,where was obamas policy at that time ? He was trying to get the funding stopped for our Homeland security!!! You need to get a underwear bomber in your shorts ! Bet you would love that huh!
