The solution is very simple.
Expropriate the land, no matter how much it will anger the Muslim community.

Ted   August 19th, 2010 1:35 pm ET

Governor Paterson;

We killed in Vietnam over 3 million people, what do you think when will those families forgive us?
In Iraq, who had nothing to do with 9/11, we also killed well over 100,000 people. Do you think those families will ever forgive us?
What about Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Cambodia, Laos, Lebanon, where we killed and are still killing thousands. Should they ever forgive us?
Israel is waging a proxy war against the arabs in the middle-east, bombing Palestina, Syria and Lebanon, with our fullest support.
Who must start asking for forgiveness, the moslems or the christians?

John Rezak   August 19th, 2010 3:17 pm ET

The Mosque is being used right now. What is the sensitivity exactly about ? How is this mosque related to Ground Zero or 9/11 ? Seeing a Mosque built by American Muslims who had nothing to do with 9/11 reopens wounds ? Will seeing an American Muslim walk by, who had nothing to do with 9/11 reopen wounds ?
Besides, didn't the 9/11 terror group state US troops in Saudi Arabia, then sanctions on Iraq and Palestinian occupation as their reasoning for 9/11 ? Thus making it political rather than religious ?

Stan Engleton   August 19th, 2010 3:23 pm ET

The invasion of Iraq resulted in the deaths of nearly 100,000 Iraqis. And the US has built an Embassy, the size of the Vatican, in the heart of Baghdad. Isn't that more of a symbol of domination ? Rather than an Islamic cultural center in Manhattan ? Anyone asked the millions of Iraqi refugees what they thought about the US Embassy in Baghdad ?

Hi Larry,
Hi folks.

this is indeed food for thought & serious thought.

Gov. Paterson like many others is wrong. Some misguided, some ill informed, some downright wackos, some pure vicious & evil, some just seeing this opportunity to munch political hay.
They are all wittingly or unwittingly joining hands with the forces of hate , racism , intolerance trying to destroy the very fabric of this great multi hued society.
If this is allowed to go on the doors would be opened for fascism & religious persecution.

Wounds, including those of the families of Muslims killed in the attack will only heal with the balm of harmony , tolerance, understanding & our faith in the spirit of America & the Constitution.

Why isn't Murdock of Faux News complaining about The Pentagon allowing a Muslim prayer area mere feet away from The Pentagon 9/11 memorial site within The Pentagon? Apparently that entertainment agency doesn't want the public to know about that.

Why doesn't CNN take a film crew into The Dakota Roadhouse next door to the 'proposed' Muslim Community Center some 2 blocks away from where the twin towers once stood? Does The Dakota Roadhouse meet Murdock's scratch and sniff standards for purity and sacred sites?

President Obama should not have voiced his opinion on the proposed Mosque near Ground Zero, period. Whats done is done.

As the saying goes "fool me once, shame on you" (Pearl Harbor), "fool me twice shame on me" ( Sept 11 )

We are debating ...this because we do not want to look like idiots to the rest of the world should their be another attack. "How come no one was watching the store"

Every LEGAL AMERICAN has their right however, where does RESPECT and HONOR come in? It is as if "who cares 3,000+ people died in 9/11 plus countless FIRST RESPONDERS who are not able to get the health care they DESERVE. Whats done is done and we move on ? yes however, we need to RESPECT and HONOR our fallen AMERICAN brothers (and sisters) ALWAYS AND FOREVER.

In this situation, there are those individuals who are worried about "their rights" and not about the rights of those who gave their lives for THIS COUNTRY. The developers of the Mosque are stating "how dare you challenge my choice of location?" We have a right to CHALLENGE everything dealing with our SAFETY.

If you are in AMERICA and want to stay, HONOR OUR FALLEN AMERICAN HEROES AND THOSE WHO SERVE TODAY so we can ALL have the freedoms our ancestors have fought so hard for all these years.

Larry, you erred in your comment on last night's show when you said the Nazis were permitted to march in Skokie. I was living in Skokie at that time and can tell you they were not permitted to march. Residents as well as outsiders, many of whom were Holocaust survivors, marched in protest to prevent that march from taking place. As a result the Nazis failed in their attempt.

when are we humans become aware of the fact that, birth and death is NOT IN ANYBODY'S HANDS. Therefore, even today it's surprise to see a baby survivor in a plane crash whereas the most strong people who are well built, extremely healthy, wealthy and have thorough knowledge DIE! Hence, it's high time, we need to understand that when we were born we were WONDERFUL CITIZENS OF THIS EARTH PLANET;LET US LEAVE THIS PLANET A BETTER PLACE FOR COMING GENERATIONS, WHEN WE DIE. As we grow we loose this WONDER by replacing with CURIOSITY AND CONDITIONED THOUGHTS. WE ARE ALL HUMANS FIRST AND THEN OTHER THINGS. Even the boundaries drawn around each OTHER country is all imaginary, really there are no lines drawn! It's all for our conviniences and comfort. When are we going to GROW SPIRITUALLY WHICH MEANS understanding our ROLE AS HUMANS on this planet progenerating with LOVE and not LUST,LIVE AND LET LIVE remembering DEATH IS CERTAIN AND IT'S NOT DIFFERENT FOR CHRISTIAN OR HINDU OR MUSILIM OR A SPIRITUAL HUMAN BEING, we need to BE AWARE OF OUR PURPOSE FOR ONLY POSITIVE AND GOOD CAUSE WHICH WILL BRING JOY,RESPECT,LOVE,COMPASSION AND ONENESS OF HUMANITY. WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF WHAT EACH ONE OF INDIVIDUAL HEART WHISPERS BECAUSE, IT NEVER GIVES WRONG THOUGHT NOR ACTION, IT'S WORD IS TRUTH AND COMES FROM ACTUALITY. UNFORTUNATELY, WE ARE USED TO LISTENING OUR REPETATIVE BAGGAGE CREATED BY US WHICH IS OUR HEAD. HEART'S WORDS ARE SUBTLE AND IT CAN BE HEARD IF WE WANT TO HEAR IT. PLEASE LISTEN TO OUR HEART'S VOICE RATHER THIS HEAD PLEASE. DO IT ONCE PLEASE!

Laura   August 20th, 2010 2:04 am ET

Dr. Laura was NOT wrong toward the CONTEXT in which she used the word. The bigger point is... why is it "ok" for the black people to BLATANTLY continue to use that word???

THEY are the ones continuing to perpetuate the ignorant "stereotype" for their own people. If you aren't a "N" then don't worry about it. And if you don't act like a "N" then you won't be seen as an "N"

Troop Emonds   August 20th, 2010 7:25 am ET

Grant free building permit for Muslim Mosque contingent on building a second, identicle Mosque same distance from Grand, Large, Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Both monuments openly say "BRIDGE TO FRIENDSHIP MOSQUES"

This truly would identify, and verify that the Violent Jihadists clearly do not represent the majority of good Islamic people on the earth.

IKHAN   August 20th, 2010 5:45 pm ET

What an absurd argument.
Would Vatican allow a mosque to be built anywhere there.
Ground Zero was never a sacred or religious site.

The proposed Community Center in lower Manhattan should proceed.

IKHAN   August 24th, 2010 4:48 pm ET

Hi Larry,
Hi folks.

What a load of absurdities & convoluted reasoning this article contains and I'm not surprised that presumably a non-Muslim has taken upon himself to circulate this & seek support here.
This article is a slap in the face of all thinking Americans who take their Constitution, the spirit of this Land of Liberty, the First Amendment seriously. And who would defend these values at all costs. I do not know about Canadians.
There is a practice in mosques around USA to throw open their doors to all on occasions like Ramadhan & Eid etc and to arrange inter-faith meetings off and on this was necessary after 9/11 back lash.
As for Americans feeling uncomfortable in mosques because of the rhetoric coming from the pulpits, well Americans are equally uncomfortable with rhetoric coming from The Evangelical or Pentacostal pulpits & other far right religious zealots which are also anti-intellect based on fantastical fabrications and often support violence.
One would come across many voices of reason and good sense in mosques around USA.
This country is not some back water of Afghanistan that a mullah can get away with utterances repulsive to intellect & knowledge of the religion of the congregations.
If only Christians were killed in the 9/11 attacks then perhaps the idea of a place of worship for any other faith would be considered "thumbing their noses".
But many Muslims & of other faiths also lost their lives in that horror.
A slap in the face of Americans was the dance of glee performed by Israeli tourists while filming the horror from a roof top in NYC while the buildings were falling.
OR when Mr.Benjamin Natanyahu declared in 2008 that"9/11 has been very good for Israel" & that' " we are benefiting from attacks on Twin Towers, Pentagon & America struggling in Iraq".
Americans do not have to be told by outsiders how to protect their core values-thank you
