Politics is King: Primary Tuesday marred by plane crash

Posted: 09:15 AM ET

This past Tuesday's primaries took a backseat to the news of a plane crash in Alaska that killed Senator Ted Stevens and four other passengers. Former NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe was also on board, surviving with three others.

Regarding the primaries, a lot of the coverage focused on Connecticut and the race to replace retiring Senator Chris Dodd. Former World Wrestling Entertainment executive Linda McMahon won Connecticut's GOP Senate primary, setting up a general election battle against the state's attorney general.

A few political stories did get a little less news coverage, though, including these:

** Levi Johnston, the father of former AK Governor Sarah Palin's grandchild, is running for her old post of Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.  Not as a call to civic duty, rather as a reality show called "Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office."

** Vice President Joe Biden's Air Force 2 plane was involved in a minor accident when the plane's engines caused a small private plane to topple over. (NYDailyNews)

** If a Supreme Court Justice trips and is not hurt, is that news?  Apparently so… (WPRI-TV)

**The reigning Super Bowl Champs, the New Orleans Saints, celebrated their championship (6 months later) at the White House.  The White House press corps was treated to some BBQ shrimp compliments of one of the players.

Weighing all of 10 to 15 pounds they crawl low to the floor
And are too tiny, too fragilel, too short to even open a door
Carrying up to 8 ounces of highly explosive poop
In camouflaged diapers that drag and droop
They emit lactate laden drool from their toothless gums
And can detonate hell from the lungs if their bellies need crumbs
Will kill you with laughter with cute sounds that they make
This terror baby alert crap is nothing 'butt' fake...

Compliments of the right-wing lunatics that are too stunted and sterile to make sense...

U.S. Congressman from Texas, Louie Gohmert (R) THE PYLE

Hi Larry,
Today is Friday the 13th & you have very aptly come up with two candidates for a horror show.

Now I read the comments blabbered by Rep.Gohmert & couldn't tell whether he was trying to prove that he is intellectually challenged or outright evil.
But to tell you the truth all this doesn't really surprise me given the current mind set of this lot. Remember that their heroes in the previous admn relied on the same tactics of fear mongering & lies to further their agenda.
The theme now of this pathetic lot is racism & phobia.

Cutting out US Military's Joint Command Center would immediately save 250-324 BILLION taxpayer dollars per year! Wow that's a huge chunk of change for another unneeded gigantic US Military agency that far outlived it's usefulness.

American's across the country should be demanding of their legislators the total number of American taxpayer dollars that is actually going into the US Military Complex and it's dozen's of Shadow Government agencys each year.

Due to shadow accounting practices, a great deal of the US Military complex yearly taxpayer costs are not clearly shown in the annual Governmental Accounting Offices (GAO). It does appear however that they show a figure of 700 Billion spent in 2008 for the US Military expenditures. With Gates folding the Joint Command Center into pre-existing US Military dept's, that certainly doesn't shave off nearly 1/2 of the total tax burden on America's citizens.

The figure of around 30% of the entire GDP of America has been posted and given by many independent researchers for the money gulping US Military Complex. However, due to shadow books, a great deal of US Military Complex spending is not on public governmental account books. I would place the figure more accurately at 50% of America's entire GDP AND the Republican Potty'ticians want that figure to INCREASE!

There is simply no reason for even a 'moderate' increase in US Military Complex taxpayer spending at this time, although that is precisely what Gates is pushing at this time, warning against Bill Clinton's cut-backs on military spending where he folded that money back into the States and Domestic spending generating a federal budget surplus and a distinct outlined plan which if Bush-Cheney had followed would have reduced the Federal Deficit to ZERO.

With both war's winding down, the US Military out of Iraq, the American people should insist that the enormous US Military Complex spending by the American taxpayers be largely REDUCED, and not increased a single penny.

With Iran getting Saddam and many seats in Iraq's new Government to greatly expand their influence in that region, and China receiving the bulk of the multi-Trillion dollar Iraqi Oil fields for mere pennys by Bush-Cheney, The American people gave thousands of their Sons and Daughters lives, blood, sweat, tears and nearly 1 Trillion taxpayer dollars and in return the Republican Potty HOSED the American People.

Well over 70% of all American voters feel the Republican war in Iraq was entirely useless, a waste, un-needed and rewarded Iran and China while punishing the American taxpayers.

For two full years the Republican Potty demonized and vilified Black Americans, painting them as less educated, less motivated and less capable than their grumpy old Senator John McCain to lead America.

The Republican Potty failed and America elected in it's first Black President in America's entire history.

Now the Republican Potty is demonizing and vilifying Brown American's. Painting them as terrorists, drug smugglers, welfare receivers and taking away American citizen's social security benefits.

Although President Obama has deported more illegal immigrants than Republican Bush-Cheney did their entire 8 years in office and has added 110% more border security guards than Bush-Cheney, this is the only polarizing issue the entire Republican Potty'ticians have.

America's voters at a whopping 90% do not trust Republican's with America's economic recovery, what's to trust with that party of NO, No Help and No ideas?

Thus far the Republican Potty has no platform for America's future besides their racist issue of illegal Hispanics which Democratic President Obama has dealt with more in 2 years than the Republican administration of Bush-Cheney in 8 years.

The Republican Potty is lacking any working ideas and focus on helping America to prosper in the future, the American voters need to demand the Republican Potty actually voice and reveal their goals and plans for America's job and economic recovery if they have a single one. Talk about it, outline it. Right now they have none and are afraid to even voice their thoughts on how to proceed.

@Smith in Oregon,
Given that Obama is a Democrat and Congress is also, wouldn't it be more important for the Democrats, especially Obama, to reveal their goals and plans for America's job and economic recovery if they have a single one.
