Judge in Calif. OK's same-sex marriage

Posted: 05:17 PM ET

Los Angeles, California (CNN) - A federal judge ruled on Thursday to allow same-sex couples to marry in California, starting on August 18, handing another big victory to supporters of gay rights in a case that both sides say will likely end up in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Last week, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker in San Francisco struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage, ruling that voter-approved Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution. Walker had issued a temporary stay on his decision, which on Thursday he said he would lift.

The high-profile case is being watched closely by supporters and opponents of same-sex marriage, as many say it will make its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. If it does, the case could result in a landmark decision on whether people in the United States are allowed to marry people of the same sex.

Same-sex marriage is legal in five U.S. states and in the District of Columbia, while civil unions are permitted in New Jersey. The five states are Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Iowa and New Hampshire.

You would think in times when people are struggling financially and trying to keep their homes, the issue of who is married would be a “non-issue” I fail to see how a gay marriage affects someone who is heterosexual. How is it affecting their life? Why would they not want others to be happy or have the same legal benefits from marriage as heterosexuals?

The US government and its laws are based on secular not religious doctrines. Therefore, religion has no place in determining the rights accorded to by US citizens

sexual identity is determined at birth and rarely due to life events. The same Creator made us all–straight, gay and asexual. All have the right to be happy. This prejudice against someone because of their sexual orientation has to stop. Jesus clearly states "love one another as I have loved you" without qualifications on that person's sexual orientation.

(1) No state asks hetros if they can or will have a baby in order to receive a marriage liscense. The reproduction issue is moot. (2) If the Bible was 100 times it's present size and every verse on every page said "One man marry one woman," it's use as evidence in court would still be zero. The religion issue is moot. Let gay people marry.

The Bible tells us that God is going to punish blatant sinners just as He did in days gone by. He didn't spare evil angels for cohabiting with human females. He didn't spare mankind in the days of Noah. He didn't spare Sodom in the days of Lot. In fact He burned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes. So it is foolish beyond imagination to suppose that God has somehow changed and will react differently towards the sins of this generation.

The Apostle Peter says the same thing.

4: For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

5: And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6: And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly.

2 Peter 2

O Lord, why have You made us stray from Your ways, and hardened our heart from Your fear? (Isaiah 63:17; see also Psalm 105:25).

David prayed,

Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works. (Psalm 141:4)

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. (Galatians 6:7-8)

He who does not love Me does not keep My words. (John 14:24).

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

10 nor thieves, nor {the} covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were reduced to ashes for sexual sins. They are set forth as an example of how the Almighty God reacts to blatant disobedience.

Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Jude 7

God is the one who created evil, and God is the one who created evil people. As it is written,

The Lord has made all for Himself, yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

Proverbs 16:4

@ Kathie

You left out bi-sexual.

I second your motion, but leave Jesus out of this. He probably never said a single word of all that is attributed to that person, who probably never existed, but is a creation of those who formed that religion.
The Bible has been written hundreds of years later, it was rewritten several times, each translation changed the original text, etc. etc.
Let´s base our lives on ethic and not on hearsays.

Good Afternoon. I agree with both your post. IMO, it is none of our business what people of the same sex want to do. If they want to marry left them. We have more important things in life to worry about like the million dollar debt, that they having problems with and trying to make us pick up the cost, by laying off Teachers or making State Workers take a pay cut, and much more. Instead, what I see is that they are putting all their worrys about who is marrying who. Figure out how to pay off these debts and stay out of people bedrooms so to speak.

The law's an ass. No wonder it says in the Bible........to be in the world, but not part of it.

I think if you deny the Bible you deny God. How come God's word has survived through all these centuries and is the most popular book.

Here is the warning at the end of the Book of Revelation 22:18-19.......

"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anythingto them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book."

Amen!

Romans 1:16-17

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith."

Matthew 10:32-33

"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven."

Amen!

I continue to be dismayed at the Americans' willingness to spend time on issues that were most likely used to misdirect and distract the American public instead of looking at the issues that are of importance. Namely, the US treasury and where the money has been pilfered for the past 10 years.
