Chelsea Clinton's Wedding: Not "a Dry Eye in the House"‎

Posted: 02:14 PM ET

Roger Clinton, former President Bill Clinton's half-brother, says he was blown away seeing Chelsea walk down the aisle over the weekend.

"She was more beautiful than ever," he tells Entertainment Tonight of the former first daughter, 30, who wore a stunning Vera Wang gown.

Adds Roger, "It was a great night." Chelsea exchanged vows with longtime beau, investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, 32, Saturday in a lavish ceremony at the Astor family palace in Rhinebeck, N.Y. "Marc gave an eloquent speech about his love for Chelsea," a wedding guest tells the New York Daily News.

"At the end of his speech, he ignored the rest of the room and looked very intense. He looked right into Chelsea's eyes. Oh, it was something. The whole room was quiet. You could feel the energy in the room. He impressed a lot of people."

Former President Clinton, 63, couldn't hold it together, added another guest. "Bill's chin began quivering and he tried to fake a smile as a tear came down his cheek," another guest told The News. "He whispered something into Chelsea's ear, and she wiped the tear off his face. It was so touching. There wasn't a dry eye in the house."

He cut in after the newlyweds had their first dance to Jerome Kern's "The Way You Look Tonight," performed by the wedding band, the paper reports.

Another wedding highlight - when the father of the bride toasted his daughter.

"Bill's toast was vintage Bill Clinton," a guest said. "He spoke quite elegantly about what it was like to welcome Marc into the family."

Added another, "It hit all the right marks. It was perfect."

Wow, how great, Bill was able to speak elegantly about welcoming a son-in-law something he has denied to 1000s of families but signing DOMA. What a jerk!

I heard this affair referred to as "America's Royal Wedding" Seems appropriate as it was a union of the bride (daughter of the man responsible for the losing of many American jobs through NAFTA) with the groom (working for the bank that responsible for the losing of many American homes) A real Marie Antoinette moment!

People, don't be a bunch of jack@sses. Man, if you people ever get married, I hope other people talk about you in the same way. It was a wedding, need everything be political? I'm sure in your lifetime you never made a mistake...and I surely hope you people don't keep reminding you of the same mistake over and over to the world.

Rick   August 2nd, 2010 2:53 pm ET

And...Section 3 of DOMA was declared unconstitutional anyway. Your point is moot.

Fred Stanley   August 2nd, 2010 3:08 pm ET

I think Chelsea looks like a zombie in this picture!!!

lkk158   August 2nd, 2010 3:08 pm ET

As you can see there are only two A...Holes writing such a despicable
comment. We as Americans need less of this and maybe it would be a better place for all.

Chelsea you look beautiful and a classic act!

unlike some people who have left comments.

This is another article that CNN needs to close. People are so disrespectful, and to think most of these people attend church every Sunday and say they are Christians. I think they are Hypocrites!!!!!

All of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Congratulation Chelsea!

President Clinton and Hillary Congratulation on your daughters marriage!

Haters! Let these kids have their moment! They are certainly not their parents. How can anyone look at two people so clearly in love and be mean.

cincygirl   August 2nd, 2010 5:08 pm ET

Congratulations, Chelsea~ don't worry the bitter beans out there.
They are just jealous!

Floridian   August 2nd, 2010 6:01 pm ET

After the Republican Potty'ticians have continuously outsourced and moved Republican connected corporations all overseas, the utterly pathetic Republican Potty'ticians are telling American's how upset 'they' are about the lack of jobs in America at this time! Talking about hypocrites!

The only idea that have and are willing to vote YES on is to extend the Bush tax cuts for the ultra rich Americans which ADDS 3 Trillion dollars to the federal defect over the next 5 years.

The Republican party is destroying the Middle Class in America, taken a wrecking ball to America's manufacturing base in America and chained America to dependence on crude Oil.

JUST THE FACTS   August 2nd, 2010 6:42 pm ET

bondservant1958's remark, below, is accurate:

"I heard this affair referred to as "America's Royal Wedding" Seems appropriate as it was a union of the bride (daughter of the man responsible for the losing of many American jobs through NAFTA) with the groom (working for the bank that responsible for the losing of many American homes) A real Marie Antoinette moment!"

Perhaps those of you who made the Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm remarks don't understand that after Clinton entacted NAFTA, U.S. jobs left the country, or don't believe that Goldman Sachs misappropriated taxpayers' bailout monies.

bondservant1958 is not being mean. He's just being truthful.

MICHELE   August 2nd, 2010 9:43 pm ET

Congratulations to Marc and Chelsea! Congrats also to Former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton! They're a very attractive couple. Chelsea is a beautiful bride.

People are just so jealous. Just ignore them!

Marc and Chelsea–All the best for the future.

debbie   August 2nd, 2010 9:58 pm ET

Serious;y – is it necessary to bring up Bill Clinton's poor judgement in the same breath as reporting on Chelsea's wedding? It is disrepectful to even mention it. This is Chelsea's day and she is in no way responsible for anything her Dad did in the past. Let it be.

Congrats to Chelsea and Marc

Gabrielle   August 2nd, 2010 11:08 pm ET

Would have been nice to see a picture of the bridesmaids!.. Hey Bill , America loved and supported you through thick and thin, so a couple more pictures would have been a nice gesture. Perhaps you will agree to give a little more next week, and release another picture of the twelve bridesmaids to brighten our days during this recession. Congratulations anyway to you Bill, and Mummy Hillary, and Chelsea. We love you all. Don't be nervous Chelsea about wagging tongues. We loved you as a little girl, and we still love you. I wish you and Marc, a long and happy married life and a house ful of kids for Grandpa Bill!!!!!!!

Tammy   August 2nd, 2010 11:17 pm ET

Congrats to the beautiful couple !

If you Can't say something nice on this special occasion than keep it to yourself.

Additional details are beginning to emerge about the big Clinton wedding in Rhinebeck.

Best wishes for the bride and the groom. The reporter sitting in for Larry said there was not material to do the show. So what did she do? Talk about the Monica thing. The panel had more sense and respect. Even the Bush person said that the money that was spent on the wedding was a private matter. The Bushes most have spent a few millions on their little princess and good for them as well.
Congratulations to the parents of the bride. I can wait to see more pictures. After all, she was the first daughter and we care about her and her parents.

Dinos   August 3rd, 2010 3:43 am ET

I wonderful. She was glowing. What proud parents. They raised her right. So wonderful to see.

Patti Murphy   August 3rd, 2010 11:04 am ET

All I can saw is WOW! What a beautiful family wedding-the Clintons deserved this for their daughter.

I know this will be a forever-kind-of-marriage . . . may they live to see their children and their children's children.

Chelsea looked stunning! I'm glad she's so in love-he'll be a great husband.

. . . from a kind Republican.

Chelsea was entitled to her "big day" and is not responsible for her father's actions – HOWEVER the adoration for Bill Clinton needs to be addressed – reality check time:

– 1993 Clinton bombed Baghdad in retaliation for an alleged but unproven Iraq plot to assassinate former (elder) Pres Bush. Iraqi civilians were killed or wounded in the raid. This unilateral action in response to an unproven charge was a violation of international law.

– 1998 Clinton bombed Afghanistan and Sudan. Many civilians were killed in Afghanistan (and by the missiles that accidentally landed in Pakistan). The pharmaceutical factory destroyed in the Sudan was the major source of medical drugs in that poor country.

– Clinton supported Turkey in its war against its indigenous Kurd population.

– He escalated his aid to Colombia. In both these countries the civilian casualties from counter-insurgency warfare and death squad operations during the Clinton years exceeded the pre-NATO bombing deaths in Kosovo substantially.

– Clinton's tightening of the embargo on Cuba which banned the sale of US food and curtailed access to water treatment chemicals and medicines. The American Association of World Health 1997 reported the food sale ban "has contributed to serious nutritional deficits, particularly among pregnant women, leading to an increase in low birth-weight babies".

– Clinton's sanctions on Iraq: UNICEF reports that in 1999 over 1 million Iraqi children under 5 suffered from chronic malnutrition and 4,000-5,000 children died per month, beyond normal death rates, from the combination of malnutrition and disease.

I wonder if Bill Clinton had "a dry eye" for the deaths of all of these children caused by his policies.
