Sheriff Clarence Dupnik understands what is wrong with SB1070...Supremacy of Law, as defined by the U.S. Constitution. If an illegal immigrant is detained because they violate state law...turn them over to ICS, following adjudication for breaking state law. On the other hand, Sheriff Larry Dever needs to have someone explain it to him, possibly using cartoons, so he can understand what 'separation of powers' means. If the Congress acts to reform immigration laws and the U.S. Constitution is changed to allow states to actively apprehend illegal immigrants on that basis only, so be it. In the interim, abide by both the laws and constitution of your state and that of the U.S. Constitution. One more time, this is a grandstanding by the right-wing politicians seeking re-election.

On another note, look to the confirmation of federal judgeships being held up solely by the Republicans in D.C. to impede the president's selections for those positions. Look at the hundreds of bills the right-wing is turning their backs on that would improve the economy, especially those to assist small businesses that would improve the job market. Take an unbiased look America and take that to the polls in November. Partisan politics, largely on behalf of the right, is making YOU SUFFER.

I say, as an Independent registered voter who could care less about partisan devoutness, that there is a clandestine cloak of racism attached to the right-wing/tea toteleers. I also say that President Obama is the best president this country has had for decades. When you choose to criticize him look at what he is doing, or attempting, to overcome what former President George W. Bush and his administration has accumulated in eight years. Two unwarranted wars, a nearly destroyed economy and curtailment of freedoms that most cannot even encompass/imagine. Who could ask for anything more from that mess when the Republican Party along with right-wing 'fair and balanced' (sic) news organizations are in collusion to destroy this once great country that is becoming ever-more fractured by politicians acting like morons. If they had their way we would all be goose-stepping and hailing a fuhrer like a bunch of neo-nutzis..

Cajazz76:24:8   July 29th, 2010 2:51 pm ET

Remember that during the Bush Administration he charged Congress with reforming immigration laws...what happened to it? Sorry CHARLIE...the right-wing is duping you to garner votes in November..

Cajazz76:24:8   July 29th, 2010 3:04 pm ET

I watched a segment on Fox News (keep your enemies closer) on the 73 % of the country favoring SB1070 in AZ. Here is how it was calculated by them...53% of the country favored it...20% 'really' favored it...that equaled the 73%, right? Then they stated 47% were against it...still LMAO. They have such quantitative methods in their calculations...Fair and Balanced, like a flea and an elephant on a see-saw.

edgar   July 29th, 2010 3:09 pm ET

I am glad you are sick of us Charlie (in fact it makes me feel good just thinking about it).

The real issue here is racism... but they can't say they don't like brown skinned people any more... so they invent stories about "baby after baby", and schools with 95% illegal immigrants and people who don't pay any taxes.

Of course none of this is true.

More importantly, the answer would be comprehensive immigration reform which would let people become citizens and pay all of the taxes any citizen pays.

If it were really about "illegal"... then people would support a way to become legal. Let's be honest here, the real problem is that some people think that there are two many brown skinned people here.

Joe G. (Illinois)   July 29th, 2010 3:19 pm ET

Why marvel now? Let’s relax and take it easy..

One thousand years ““After”” The Second Coming of Jesus Christ, people numbering like the sand of the seas will gather in uproar seeking equality and equal excess to the New Jerusalem.

And they will be mad, angry, loud and full of conviction in regards to Equality..! (By no means am I comparing the USA to The New Jerusalem.)

Thank you and good day.

Joe G. (Illinois)   July 29th, 2010 3:48 pm ET

Ever since the very beginning with Adam and Eve
the devil has always strived for “Equality” on earth..
And has always made it sound like such a righteous virtue.
All equal.. All equal he wants them. Equality is such a good thing!

And the party of Liberal Progressive Immorality???

George Colebrook Jr   July 29th, 2010 3:51 pm ET

Why don’t the media and corporate America tell the truth? The majority of the illegal immigrants are coming to Arizona for employment. Who’s doing the hiring? If corporate America stops employing them, there would be no reason to come to Arizona. The sheriff’s department and other police department should be cracking down on “Employers”. Close the job market and the so-called illegal will not come if there are no jobs available.
Unfortunately, SB 1020 will not stop the Drug Cartel, Gang Bangers and Coyotes, which we definitely do not need and they are not looking for employment.

George Colebrook Jr   July 29th, 2010 3:56 pm ET

Can someone tell me how illegal immigrants get into the elementary school systems? When my kids attended school, I had to provide a birth certificate to prove that they were 5 years old. In addition, I had to show residency in order for my kids to go to the school in my district. What has changed????

Cajazz76:24:8   July 29th, 2010 4:09 pm ET

Another example of 'wool sunglasses' in fashion. At approximately 3:56 p.m EST, some four minutes or so ago, Fox News' Shepard Smith stated at the break that we have a HUGE development in Arizona's S.B. 1070. He stated that an 'expedited appeal' was file with the 9th Circuit, which is in San Francisco, and a ruling could be reached in days. Last night on Fox News, Jan Drink-wine Brewer stated that in the morning when she sobered up after a night of crying in her cacti-poo no-joy juice she would file an expedited appeal. 'Fair and Balanced' has me suffering from vertigo when I watch the 180 degree news on FOX.

Cajazz76:24:8   July 29th, 2010 4:38 pm ET

The elementary school you refer to is on the edge of a strawberry field in the open sun and the 5% missing died from heatstroke during recess, which they spent carrying full crates of produce...Only believe half of what you read...Sorry CHARLIE...

Luis B. Rosario   July 29th, 2010 5:01 pm ET

The sheriff in favor of Arizona immigration is just blowing hot air.
He is just as prejudiced as was the Ku Klux Klan. Immigration
is not Arizona's main problem. Arizona has plenty of other
problems including the 66 percent decline in home prices.
Therefore Arizona 's governor Brewer is looking for a scapegoat
to unload her responsibility as is this other jerk running against
John McCain. He said "my family were migrants from Scandinavia,
but they came here legally through Ellis Island." Rick Sanchez,
CNN asked him" I did not know that immigration was legal or illegal
at the time of Ellis Island receiving migrants from Europe". ( The
U.S.did not have any anti-immigration laws at the time) . Peope
entered the country from anywhere they could disembark.
The Russians landed in Long Island and so forth. " Some people
were turned back because they communicable (contagious)
diseases," said Rick Sanchez but that was about all the
restrictions we had those days against immigration.

MaryRM   July 29th, 2010 5:26 pm ET

Why doesn't that governor fine the business owners who hire illegal immigrants? These workers go to Arizona because her own voters are happy to hire them. The business owners would be up in arms and crying if she targeted them. What a pack of Nazi hypocrites.

HC2R   July 29th, 2010 5:32 pm ET

why they dont just this illegal immigrants work legally here in america, i mean give them a chance have their american dream,,, make them a part of our community, makr them a citicen and let them work and pay a tax...

Pam Risner   July 29th, 2010 5:42 pm ET

I want to know why the police can't ask for papers. I have a house in Mexico and have to carry my passport with me at all times. What makes U>S> different! You can just come and leave without any papers. Let it be know–THE TERRORISTS ARE ALREADY IN THE US. I live in Arizona and we are over run with illegals. WHY///////??????????

Smith in Oregon   July 29th, 2010 6:18 pm ET

True to his Racist goose stepping character, Sheriff Arpao's posse of Arizona Sheriff's were out in force today in Arizona rounding up brown skinned residents and demanding their citizenship papers by deploying various loopholes in the corrupt Sheriff's books of dirty tricks to excuse such a request from a resident of the United States.

Do you have a license for that dog? It's not my dog. Show me your American citizenship papers...

Why give this Woman a voice w/o a balance , starting to sound like Fox news

robin in georgia   July 29th, 2010 9:30 pm ET

I am so DISGUSTED with the way she portrayed THE FIRST LADY, She is a strong black woman and I so tired of them attacking her!!!! It plays into the sterotype about black women. How we are supposed to loud, rude, and bossy. Why give a voice to this women, people like her pray on the fears on the smaill percentage of people that didnt vote for president Obama because of stereotypes. I hate this kind of politics and Fox NEws!!!

robin in georgia   July 29th, 2010 9:33 pm ET

Why does CNN give a voice to people that are out to divide the country and not bring us together. They should stay on fox news!!!!

ckesling   July 29th, 2010 9:37 pm ET

@ robbin in georgia i agree !!!! think she is a little JEALOUS ????she isn't even in the same league as michele obama, mrs. obama has CLASS... laura doesn't !!!!!!!!!!

Lloyd C. Spencer Sr.   July 29th, 2010 9:48 pm ET

I agree with the laws passed in Arizona. My grand-parents were from Sweden but they came in legally and became American citizens. My Great grand daughter married a married a man who was a ilegal but he went back to Mexico and came back and is now a American citizen..
Send all back who do not want to become one of us i USA.

Kristina   July 29th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

Its just not right of Laura saying "If you dont have papers you should leave this country". Ive been waiting for the perminant residance for 10 years promised by Bush and I have also been paying taxes. Just recently Ive been denied in that and just hope I dont get deported. It is just not fair because loyal immigrants should be legalized. There are so many immigrants that are permanant residents that don't apreciate it and just take advantage of it

Anna Smith   July 29th, 2010 10:04 pm ET

People who drive, legally, keep their driver's license with them. It is my ID and I don't mind carrying it.
What's with people who don't want to carry their ID papers?

John   July 29th, 2010 10:10 pm ET

Why don't you report the truth here Larry. Tax dollars pay for their babies born here and give free health ( Georgia kid care broke) care and pay no taxes. I know of one illegal selling cocaine the kids and having sex with 14 year old girl on of a man (illegal ) in another case. I know of one illegal that Parked a car in the road to talk with friends during a storm and totaled my friends car, was not charged ( person here in the states that's legal would be sued and charged with the wreck) Now, why don't we want this people gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell that story. That's why I don't watch your show. Most of all I want a job and would take one that their doing, whatever it is.

RPJ Fitoussi senior   July 29th, 2010 10:10 pm ET

Hello Mr King
On immigration
The illegal workers would not be in your country if the contractors, further processing plants owners and corporations would not offer them work.
the employers are the real law breakers
When are they going to be arrested and prosecuted.
have a great evening

Dr. E.   July 29th, 2010 11:35 pm ET

Ilegal emigrants are the new class of slaves: some employees threaten them, they don`t get raises or vacations...
Me & my girlfriend are certified veterinary doctors in another country, but we came to the US because we can save more money here as unqualified workers, then we could at home as doctors, we came legaly & tried to extend our visas but it wasn`t aproved due to the outdated US imigration law, so they gave us no choice but to remain here ilegaly, it`s been 3 years now & we were hopping for the law to change so we can go home & visit our famillies but unfortunatly it looks like it won`t happend in the near future. It`s a shame that there are lots of educated valuable people, that this grate country could use (there is a shortage of large animal veterinarians here & I`m specialized in that) but they go to waste because of these outdated laws & birocracy! We file & pay taxes lke any other citizen & we have our own social security because we came with a work visa we also have health & car insurance, in spare time we volunteer @ the local humane society! What more do we need to do so we can get a chance to become american citizens?

Robert Noble   July 30th, 2010 12:08 am ET

I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I did not have insurance then, and had to go to the emergency room for a severe headache. The waiting room was FULL of Mexicans, all speaking Spanish only !

The doctors and nurses, even though I was diagnosed at that hospital, passed me over many times in order to see Mexican Nationals with babies who probably were not critically ill, as I was, but just had the typical sniffles babies sometimes get.

I was discriminated against because I was white, and because I was American. We can't allow our Emergency Rooms, which are used by Mexican Nationals as General Practitioners, to be overrun by illegal immigrants from other countries if we can't meet our own needs!

lee arnold   July 30th, 2010 12:57 am ET

just watch a "debate" with laura ingraham on your show. after the way you let this lady talk over, change the topic and generally be rude to your other guest i can now see why you are leaving the show. this was as bad as it gets, watched you for years sorry to see you go but come on if this is the way its going to be maybe you should just go on now. still love you larry good luck.

Chris Peterson   July 30th, 2010 1:05 am ET

It is sad to say this but i agree with the law in itself and the strides the state is taking so that it would be free of illegal immigrants. The problem however is the fact that the police and others in authority are going to abuse the opportunity. If there are cops out there who pull people over just for being black, just imagine what they will do when they see someone of hispanic descent. ohh yeah and by the way i wonder if we will see other illegal immigrants from haiti, africa, and even canada asked if they are illegal residents. It's people that will make the law flawed not the law itself.

jay123jd   July 30th, 2010 2:32 am ET

Republicans have had the majority for how many years? They must like the cheap labor because the hispanics have a higher drop out rate than any other ethnic group. And you do have to fill those prisons to get those state tax dollars for your own private facility. I guess republicans can't see the forest for the $$$$$ signs.

Immigration Facts Don't Match the Hype
Accordinjg to Dept of Homeland Security the number of illegal
immigrants living in the United States dropped by 1 million
bedtween 2008 and 2009. The sharpest decrease in 30 years.
The Border Patrol reported that illegal immigrants apprehensions
are down by more than 60 percent since 2000 to 550,000 , last year.
That is the lowest number in 35 years. William Finnegan wrote
lastg week for the New Yorker that the southern border is
in better shape that it has been in years, better managed and less
Despite the drumbeat about "hordes of undocumented
Mexicans, who have come north to take our jobs, it is just
a complete fabricated lie to stir the masses in Arizona and
other border states. According to the pew Hispanic Center,
the number of Mexican migrants arriving in the United States
between 2005 and 2008 declined by 40 percent. One of the
reasons for the decline may be that the U.S. struggling
economy has discouraged high-skilled immigrants from
looking for jobs in North America. There are 85,000 H1-B
visas issued every year for as the quota for migrant workers
starting April st of every year. The quota for fiscal year 2010
was not reached until December 2009, the first time this
happens since 1994.
The census Bureau's American Community Survey reported
last fall a historic decline in the percentage of U.S. residents who
are foreign born from 12.6 to 12.5 % It is only a 40,000 residents
difference but it is a minus instead of a plus reported since
1970 (a span of 40 years), that the foreign- born percentage
of the U.S. population has gone down.
So why is the debate abourt illegal immigration become so
nasty(worse than the 1994 proposition 187 California
anti-immigrant bailout measure? The economy is tough
nowadays and historycally people have looked for targets
(escapegoats) to blame for their feelings of impotence, "
according to Gregory Rodriguez, columnist for the Los Angeles
There are other contributing factors. The political discourse
nowadays is horrific with "Tea Party rebels and conservative
Republicans who use race as a weapon to try to unseat
incumbents. Todays' polarized political climate only make
matters worse.
Furthermore, the right wing, where much of the anti-
immigrations frenzy comes from,no longer has an authoritative
voice of reason pressing for decency on the issue. Today's
ugly rethoric exibited by Tea Party leader Mark Williams, Rush
Limbaugh and Republican Rep. turned Tea Party spokeswoman
Michelle Bachellan have an "open borders" policy on over -the-
top rhetoric in which they use racial discrimination epithats
illegal immigration and anti-gay slogans to stir blue grass
roots constituents who may blame our economy woes on
these groups. (The scapegoat syndrome).
irresponsible struggling newspapers are seeking to engage
readers on websites using racist rants by "complete nut -jobs."
Allowing vitriolic racial rhetoric to remain on a mainstream
website is to give it a level of acceptability," opines Gregory
Rodriguez of the Los Angeles Times. Just the other day,
in response to the illegal immigration debate, a commenter
proposed that " all those crossing the U.S.-Mexican border
should be shot on sight. " By allowing this irrational, inflamatory-
violent prone response to be posted on a website, newspapers
anchors are presiding over the "mainstream of Anti-immigrant
hate speech," adds Gregor y Rodriguez.
There are many of these so called "nut -jobs" in North
America who will use racial hate as a justifiable means to
an end," he says. " But they are silly to think that such invective
only makes life harder for illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, it
also actively degrades our culture, our public square and our
democracy, summarizes the Los Angeles Times journalist.
Perhaps Governor Brewer, Sheriff Arpao and other like
opportunists, trying to capitalize on the immigration debate
toi further their polital careers should try to abandon their
seemingly obvious racist attitude and start to work together
for a better United States of America.

Larry I'm a big fan but the quality of your guests is deteriorating rapidly. Laura I. was nothing except annoying. She is not a politician and she is not funny. Please don't waste your remaining time on such trash.

Adeogun Olukayode   July 30th, 2010 5:47 am ET

Larry, this immigration thing is just a ploy by the republican to discredit the present administration, because this people didn't bring this thing up during the Bush administration nothing was said about it and if something was said about it was not this tense, they have to wait untill now to do so , to me this is all politics and laura am afraid to say that you are biased about it.

Send our dead beat dads and moms that refuse to work, hide behind a new unsuspecting partner, never paying their child support over to Mexico and allow a hard working family man/woman that wants to work and take care of their children come over the borders to our country.

Swap for swap. Let Mexican authorities take care of our dead beat parents that refuse to pay for their child support and live under the radar of the court system in our country.

@Luis B. Rosario

Hello Luis..How the heck are you? I have been trying to e-mail you for weeks..for some reason that address doesn't work..I have tried it in the past...Easter (when you posted it) and it didn't work then either. Sure missed you and have been concerned for you. Where the heck you been, working the beaches for BP? Great to know you still Blogging site has a large hole in it without you. Take care Luis, until we bump heads... -_- ..."the more you try to fix it"...I'll never forget that..

Luis B. Rosario   July 30th, 2010 2:24 pm ET

Dear friend
I have been here and there and no matter where I go, I return to
the same place. No I don't have that memory deterioration
disease yet (thanks God) but I have more issues to resolve
than President Obama (and like him, my opponents are like
right wing Democrats or hard core Conservative Republicans
in conspiracy with Tea Party nuts). But like Gloria Gaynor
says in her song " I will survive." ( I hope). Great to hear from
you and is good to read your comments. PS I did not
qualify for that BP cleaning job application that you read about.
They said that I was -well too good- looking to get oil soaked
all over my body parts and too old to be able to clean myself" lol.
But like that cowboy singer used to say, I'll keep on trucking. until
my truck engine reaches 1 million miles(wish me luck). My E mail, or @ If you don't find
me there , try calling me in heaven -God may have called me
to do some type of catastrophe duty, thereat . That number is
unlisted but mention my name and "they will kick you back down
to earth.: lol. Today I happen to be mellow . I'm trying to be " a two
cent comedian for a moonshine drink." Only kidding, I'm only
drink bottled water but now there is a rumor that if you drink
bottled water every day you may grow hair on your tongue.
I got a heavy accent as it is now, imagine with hair on my tongue.
Although I believe that hair sprouting from my nails from that crude
oil spill cleanup that I started to do and could not finish it due
to circumtances beyond my control.
Ok. enough comedy this is the Larry King show and he is quite
serious about it. By the way did you know that Larry King may
retire this year? He has more than a million miles of journalism
experience. He is a great fellow like us Irish guys from Dublin say.
Adios amigo. Hasta la vista.

Despite all the drumbeat about "hordes" of undocumented

with Politic Fact or call the Pew Hispanic Center-website.).
One of he reasons for the decline may be that the United States

this up, " the numbers don't match the hype."

So why is the debate abou illegal immigrants become so nasty,
so contested, so violent and so discriminatory, even worse than the
1994 proposition 187 California's anti-immigration bailout measue?
First, the economy is tough nowadays and "historically people
have looked for targets (scaplegoat) to blame for their feelings
of impotence.' according to George Rodriguez. Second we have
a black president in the White House and zealous politicians
are trying hard to pin the failures of immigraqtion reform on
Barack Obama, despite the fact that George W Bush did not
do anything positive regarding the issue in 8 years.
Third, but not last , there are other contibuting factors. The political

hard core Republican conservative who use race as a weapon

mainstream "anti-immigrant hate speech,' inciting aggravated
assault and murder against people by a lynching posse.
There are many of these 'nut jobs" in the United States who
will use racial hate as" a justifiable means to an end," but they
are silly to think that such invective only makes life harder for
illegal immigrants. unfortunately it also actively degrades our
culture, our public square and our Democracy, " writes Rodriguez.

Perhaps Governor Brewer of Arizona, Sheriff Arpaio and other
political opportunits who use scapegoat victims to justify other
means should try to abandon their seemingly obvious racist
crusade and start to work together with their citizens for a
better United States of America. (Luis B. Rosario)

Very disappointed with the panel selected for your show to discuss immigration. How are Ben Stein, or Aisha Tyler on an 'expert panel' to discuss immigration law?

Everyone keeps complaining about the problems and pitting one side against the other. In order to bring a positive change for our country what is needed is improvement in BOTH border security and immigration reform.

Ted   August 1st, 2010 1:21 pm ET

@ Dr E

You did not have to stay illegally, you had the choice, the only correct one, to go home after your visa was not extended!
You do not have the right to work and save money in the USA so you can open your business in your own home country.
You are a criminal now and I hope they catch you and make you swimm back home!

The Law6   August 2nd, 2010 6:38 pm ET

Are Drugs Illegal In The US..Yes...Is Killing Illegal In The Us Without Reasonable Cause? Yes..You Know Why It's Illegal? Cause It's Against The Law!!!! So I Don't Think No One Should Break The Law Not Even If Obama Says It's Ok And Stop Screaming Discrimination Cause If This Was.. None Of Yall Would Be Here Even The Ones That Was Born Here So Please
