Lindsay Lohan begins 90-day sentence

Posted: 03:55 PM ET

Actress Lindsay Lohan showed little emotion as a deputy put her in handcuffs in a Beverly Hills, California, courtroom Tuesday morning to take her to jail.

The actress, wearing a top that exposed part of her back, was surrounded by deputies and was quickly walked to a nearby side door labeled "secure area."

"We love you, Lindsay," her father, Michael Lohan, said as she disappeared.

Lohan was "cooperative" as she was booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility about an hour later, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitemore.

Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel had ordered Lohan to report to the courtroom to begin serving a sentence for a probation violation.

Revel ordered that Lohan not be allowed to leave jail on a work-release or house-release program or with electronic monitoring during her sentence.

The judge said, however, she has no control over how much of the 90-day sentence Lohan will end up serving. The sheriff, who runs the jail, has the power to release prisoners early because of jail overcrowding.

A question for Mr. Lohan: In all due respect, was it worth it to have a famous movie star million daughter who is so troubled? Would you rather have this, or for Lindsay to be a happily married stay at home mom with one or two kids?

helen sylliboy   July 20th, 2010 4:16 pm ET

who cares what lindsay Lphan does . Let her drink herself to death and out of business. I got better things to worry about than a self destructing little bit
ch.

Dear Larry King,
This Sunday night at 11:00 pm on Los Angeles FM Radio KFMX 88.9 DJ Michael Poirier will be discussing "FARM PHYSICS: A New Cure and More!
This is a concern of yours, ever since I've seen your hair start to turn brown again! I will be featured as well so take a nap and stay-up late Sunday night Larry! I could be on your show as well.
I wonder what Oprah's doing Sunday night, I have notified Dr Phil as well.

Just like all those US of A congressional hearings we so much hear about. All this attention to Lindsay Lohan is not going to help her one bit. Nor will any Reab confinements as suggested by her father Michael Lohan. A person can’t be drenched, soaked and drowning in sin and expect a rosy, warm, love filled life, free from the claws of the devil!! You chose people!!

Lucy   July 20th, 2010 5:01 pm ET

I hope jail and mandatory drug rehab (hopefully in spot designated by the court) will save Lindsay from an early death.

Judie   July 20th, 2010 5:40 pm ET

Come on people give Lindsay a break were you ever young and foolish? She needs help and the Dr. needs to stop medicating her problems. She needs to get the right help and counseling not insults. It could be your child ya know! There obviously is a problem going on much deeper then we know, let's not let her be the next star to have an early demise.

***   July 20th, 2010 5:57 pm ET

This young woman's parents are 'devastated' she is going to jail. Had it occurred to them that if they had actually parented their child instead of using her as their meal ticket none of this would be happening? Child stars seem to have a difficult time living in the real world because responsibility and accountability are not a part of their upbringing, and lacking in these areas is a detriment to any child. Children need to be taught how to behave in society, how to abide by rules, and how to function in the world that exists outside of the stage.
Hopefully Ms. Lohan will bounce back like Robert Downey Jr. She does have a credible talent and it will be interesting to see if she can remain on the right path.

Nancy   July 20th, 2010 5:59 pm ET

I'm glad the judge made the decision she did. Lohan thinks she's above the law because she's a celebrity. She didn't take anything serious at all. Robert Downey Jr. was in prison and he strightened his life out big time. She needs to GROW UP and stop being a spoiled celebrity.

DONNA   July 20th, 2010 6:30 pm ET

WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THAT THEY PICK AND CHOOSE WHOM THEY ARE GOING TO BE EXTRA TOUGH TO. THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE YOU CAN'T BREAK THERE SPIRIT. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT PARIS HILTON GOT OFF REAL EASY ON HER SENTENCE. WHO DID SHE PAY OFF? IT REALLY IS NO-ONES BUISNESS ABOUT LINDSAY'S LIFE BUT HER. SHE OWES NO-ONE APOLOGIZES OR EXPLANATIONS. WE ALL MESS UP SOMETIMES, AND BY ALL MEANS THE FIRST PERFECT PERSON CAN THROW THE FIRST STONE. NO-ONE IS PERFECT! SHE JUST NEEDS TO LEARN BY HER MISTAKES SHE MAKES. AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO BUT OUT OF HER LIFE. LIFE IS HARD ENOUGH WITHOUT LIVING IN A FISH BOWL!

Kathie   July 20th, 2010 7:32 pm ET

celebrities do not deserve a different standard of justice than the rest of us even though this often seems to be the case. this girl believe she is above the law. Prasie to the judge for the sentence imposed and I hope the jail sees fit to have her serve her sentence just like a noncelebrity. She needs to (hopefully) learn fromher mistakes. Her family has to stop making excuses for her which only enables her behavior. this girl need help. the paparrazzi needs to stop giving her all this free publicity.

Ben   July 20th, 2010 7:50 pm ET

This show is what CNN considers important news with all the events that are happening in the world today. How Sad!!!!!!

Chere   July 20th, 2010 8:30 pm ET

@Donna,
JUST SO I AM CLEAR; IT IS NO ONE'S BUSINESS IF SHE IS DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE? AND INCLUDED IN THOSE WHOSE BUSINESS YOU FEEL IT IS NOT WOULD BE THOSE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WHERE SHE IS DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE? A bit of a stretch there I'd say, Donna.

ckesling   July 20th, 2010 8:35 pm ET

lindsay was late to court again !!! she still does not respect the law !!! she will learn nothing unless she spends the full 90 days. and then spend the full 90 days in rehab !!!!

Quincy G   July 20th, 2010 8:58 pm ET

Lindsey's parents are questioning why she should go to jail. Granted, she does have a really bad drug problem, but she really didn't listen to what the judge ordered her to do.Its almost like she believed she was above the law. If I were in that mess, knowing that I could be incarcerated for even the slightest violation I would have followed the guidelines layed out for me to the letter. She probably won't serve the entire 90 days. Maybe the time she gets in rehab will help her come to terms with her addiction Robert Downy took himself away from the public eye for 2 years. Perhaps Ms. Lohan should take note and follow Robert's lead.

Avery   July 20th, 2010 9:05 pm ET

I can't help but think of a wise saying, When you do things for the wrong reasons they won't work out for you in the end. I think Lindsay Lohan's parents should be jailed as well! All the seem to care about is fame and publicity for themselves and their children, and fyi Lindsay, it's not cute!

Ashley   July 20th, 2010 9:10 pm ET

I'm sorry but Lindsay deserved her sentence. Arizona has some of the worst DUI laws out there and I got one myself in Arizona. She needs to remember she's human u do the crime u do the time. Tent city is wayyyy worse than anything she will face in her cell. Anyone who gets that many chances and still blows them off gets what they deserve, she should have gotten it worse like the rest of the world would have received in the same situation. If there's not enough room for her there sheriff Joe has plenty of room in these fabulous 120 degree tents!! Suck it up princess u should have gone to your alcohol classes!!!

CDT   July 20th, 2010 9:11 pm ET

Jail is exactly what she needs. This is what happens when parents don't parent. She has been playing with fire for a while and I strongly believe that this will be the needed wake up call she needs to get her act together.

Jai   July 20th, 2010 9:11 pm ET

With respect, I worked on Prairie Home Companion and observed Lindsay the entire time she was on set. Between the other principal actors and her bodyguard Dean, Lindsay was constantly being disrespectful of the production and constantly 'pushing' the limits of appropriate behavior. When the rest of t he cast stayed together in St. Paul, Lindsay insisted on staying in Minneapolis so she could 'party' with her friends (who were her assistants) and she was underage. She kept Mr. Altman waiting for hours and didn't seem to care.
It was inevitable this young woman would destroy herself because nobody around her says no to her or puts boundaries on her. In fact, they indulge her. If she doesn't go away for a long while and get the proper mental health and chemical health treatment, you can consider her a lost soul forever. Is the money and all this limelight really worth it?

Ke'Laun   July 20th, 2010 9:14 pm ET

Time and time again we see the rich and famous get away with crimes with little or no punishment, when those of a poor state that may commit the same crime are treatred differently. Unjustice has become rampant in America. I know people that has the same crime as Lindsey and others that receive sentences in years, not months or days. Our justice system does not work. If you cant do the time dont do the crime. She should have gotten 5 years like the normal everyday American would have gotten.

Flor   July 20th, 2010 9:20 pm ET

Why is every media on TV wasting time on this issue ? When there are more important things to talk about. Lindsay Lohan should think about making better choices in life so we won't have to hear about her wrong choices. She is going to do what ever she wants anyway and just end up overdosed or a sad alcoholic.

Ashley   July 20th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

And for the record she had a couple dui's in az that would get u a lot longer than 23 days. Michael u better count your blessings she didn't kill someone because murder Is defiantly a longer sentence. To everyone out there that feels bad for her what if she had killed your child, husband, wife? Would u still feel bad for her? Famous people should know better than to do illegal things they can pay people to do it for them!! She is secluded because she wanted to be, she didn't have to drive period

Jeffrey   July 20th, 2010 9:31 pm ET

I don't see why Larry King is wasting his time talking about Lindsay Lohan. She's 23. Who cares! It's not like she's done such great work. It's not like it's Meryl Streep or Julia Roberts that fell off the wagon and had a meltdown. She's not worth the time...

Jai   July 20th, 2010 9:32 pm ET

Oh you two photographers – give me a break! You are stumping for your new Bravo show. Shame on you! You aren't
friends....you are conveniently mooching off the sad situation of Lindsay's life, just the way she uses every situation to self promote. Your being on this show would have any credibility if you weren't looking for fame & using this platform to plug your show. Because you aren't – you have -0- credibility.

KelsoV   July 20th, 2010 9:34 pm ET

Not enough frankly. The photographers speaking right now are trying to make excuses for her. A person can be creative, nice and all that jazz, but she broke the law over and over. Period. She deserves a longer jail time in my opinion.

TURNPIKE_MYLES   July 20th, 2010 9:37 pm ET

WHO CARES ABOUT HER PETTY 90 DAYS IN JAIL? I NO I DON'T CARE, WHERE I'M FROM PEOPLE WOULD BE HAPPY TO END UP WITH 90 DAYS IN JAIL FOR THAT CRIME. PLEASE PEOPLE, FIND SOMETHING SERIOUS TO TALK ABOUT, I MEAN C'MON, THERE ARE PEOPLE GOING TO PRISON NOT JAIL BUT PRISON OUT HERE AND YOU PEOPLE ARE WORRIED ABOUT 90 DAYS OF JAIL TIME WHICH MIGHT NOT EVEN BE THE WHOLE 90 DAYS.

TURNPIKE_MYLES   July 20th, 2010 9:38 pm ET

Seems to
eggar she could use someone who could help her to be responsible. She does not seem to have learned this from the people who are around her

ckesling   July 20th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

howard brahman said it all !!! michael lohan is in love with the camera. stay away and leave her alone..

LOUIE   July 20th, 2010 10:50 pm ET

LET THE MEDIA LEAVE HER ALONE , PERIOD ...

andre graham   July 20th, 2010 11:07 pm ET

Ok, lets just all go buy some BP gas!

Tino   July 21st, 2010 12:14 am ET

I think it is upsetting to see a criminal (Lindsey Lohan) to get so much attention face the facts she is a criminal no different than any other individual who broke the law but to top it off she is in a private room..........tell me if that is not discrimination. Since when is one individual is better than another. Like the saying goes " do the crime! Do the time" the way everyone else is treated

Tino   July 21st, 2010 12:21 am ET

I say let her do her sentence and free her and put her on probation again and hope that she returns again for violation of probation just like the average criminal. Besides that how the county and city governments make there money and then file a them on their tax returns

Tino   July 21st, 2010 12:26 am ET

The judge said, however, she has no control over how much of the 90-day sentence Lohan will end up serving. The sheriff, who runs the jail, has the power to release prisoners early because of jail overcrowding.

Can u believe that statement but still gets a private cell......how is that overcrowding

Jay   July 21st, 2010 12:27 am ET

Michael Lohan needs recovery as badly or worse than Lindsay. If he keeps saving her, she will never recover.

Whitney   July 21st, 2010 12:39 am ET

I just wanted to say there are thousands of parents across the United States that see their child get taken away to jail or worse yet prison for not 13 or 90 days, but for years and there is nothing we are able to do about it because we don't have private attorneys. Our loved ones are fortunate if they are given the medications they are medically required to take, there is absolutely no thought to easing withdrawal by giving small doses of prescriptions they may be taking illegally. I would agree, Lindsay should have been sentenced to rehab before she was sentenced to do time in jail. Thank God she has access to the best rehab programs in the country for as long as she needs it. This is another thing the rest of the population does not have. Access to drug/alcohol rehab is sorely lacking for the rest of us. It is outrageously expensive and usually only available for any required hospital stay of 10 days or so. Then what? No further treatment is available except of course AA meetings. Lastly, good for Lindsay's father for not giving up on her. The only concern for him is that he is trying to soften the consequences and the only thing I would say is he should stop trying to
minimize the consequences but be there for her while she lives through them. This is the only thing that may make her stronger. It is unfortuate she rejects her father. He is right in that it will be gruelling if she actually is required to sit in her cell for 23 out of 24 hours every day. That will indeed be the most difficult part especially given she is going through right now.

Ann Kurn   July 21st, 2010 2:05 am ET

Please CNN....................I am so dissapointed in you. I tune into CNN and Larry's show because of the quality of the interviews and the way the news is presented. If I wanted more of this ridiculous Lohan saga, I would tune in to "E-CHANNEL" or buy a tabloid. That being said, I wish the best to Miss Lohan, but do not want to hear about that spoiled brat again. She lost me with the "FU" on her nails. Sorry, had to turn off Larry and we don't have much time left before his show ends. Let's see some real human intrest stories or anything but this topic. Maybe some interviews with some of CNN's heroes? There is absolutely nothing interesting about this overplayed story.

Lorrie   July 21st, 2010 2:27 am ET

Leave Lindsay alone!! Let her go and serve her time and then get into rehab to finish that requirement. Who cares what she was wearing, what does her cell look like, etc. What stupid questions?? My prayers are with Lindsay and hope that she gets through her rehab and can move on. Give her a chance. I don't care how many times she has been in rehab, it only takes once to work! God Bless you Lindsay!

Rock With You Horsegirl   July 21st, 2010 2:28 am ET

Probably not very long. Less than 90 days.

trip t   July 21st, 2010 3:46 am ET

Lindsey's Dad is a codependent and needs treatment himself. Some Al Anon meetings will help .... if he has been attending them, he certainly needs to work the 12 steps of Al Anon. People of color go to jail for longer periods for violating the law. Lindsey got plenty of chances, but wants to keep getting loaded. Let her reflect in jail, how about people who could have got injured due to her drunkenness? By the way, just rehab and jail won't help. Regular attendence at Recovery meetings and working on spiritual principles, via 12 steps or otherwise will help. There are plenty of celebreties in recovery, who work a program. By the way Larry, there are plenty of issues to cover ...... why this shallow, self centered example of americana!

HARRY   July 21st, 2010 4:17 am ET

TO THE MEDIA..LEAVE HER ALONE ! SHE DOES NOT NEED YOU..SHE NEEDS TO BE ALONE..MAYBE THEN SHE CAN DECIDE IF SHE WANTS TO TURN HER LIFE AROUND..SHE NEEDS TO DO IT "WITHOUT HER PARENTS",,THEY HAVE NOT HELPED ONE BIT..THEY JUST WANT HER MONEY...

mark weisgold   July 21st, 2010 5:29 am ET

She got what she deserves. What would happen if she killed somebody. Let her sit in jail and think awhiles if she can

Cindy Dryden   July 21st, 2010 7:23 am ET

Please tell me that Michael Lohan is not being paid for all his appearances on all these shows. He is so phony. Have you noticed that if he is asked about when he saw or spoke to Lindsay he never gives a straight answer? He has no fatherly influence on his children and should not be allowed to get all this TV air time to discuss them.

Quincy G   July 21st, 2010 8:40 am ET

I think Jai's post said it all.Ms. Lohan was indulged and spoiled beyond rotten. Robert Altman was a highly respected director. Any truly seious actor would have jumped through fire for the opportunity to work with such a stellar director & cast. Lilly Tomlin, Merryl Streep & the rest of the cast.........so much talent & experience.......Lilo is such a train wreck.
Personally, I've had enough of Mel & Lilo. Let's move on to more news worthy issues.

Susan   July 21st, 2010 11:37 am ET

I remember Lindsay Lohan's infamous grandmother, Jane Fonda, saying that she is a bright and gifted young woman and that she will eventually overcome her addiction problems and become a wholesome, actress again. Let's hope so–I do not feel sorry for her, but I do feel she has to get ahold of herself and go to AA meetings for the rest of her days and her family needs to uphold and support her in her endeavors. She is a very pretty young lady but immature and not sure of herself and what she wants!

Expat American   July 21st, 2010 4:16 pm ET

Besides being a piece of trash born of village idiot parents; Lindsay Lohan is a no talent sewer slag whose only contribution to this world is perhaps willingly wearing a skimpy dirty bikini for the onlooker paparazzi.

Throughout most of the world, women and children face war, death, assault and rape on a daily basis. Forgive me if I don't shed a tear for Lindsey Lohan or her pathetic bottom feeding mother and father.

Better yet, thrown them all in jail for the oxygen that they steal every time they breathe.

TERRI   July 21st, 2010 8:19 pm ET

TURN YOUR LIFE AROUND, DIVORCE YOUR PARENTS, THEN THEY WILL BE FORCED TO GO TO WORK...FROM ANNETTE FUNICELLO. "LIFE CAN BE BEAUTIFUL..EVEN IF IT'S NOT PERFECT"...THERE IS A WHOLE NEW WONDERFUL SIMPLE WORLD OUT THERE..WONDER IF SHE HAS ANY FAITH, ANY RELIGION,,SHE'S A TRAIN WRECK & IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE THIS WAY..SHE IS YOUNG & STRONG SHE CAN TURN HER LIFE AROUND,,BUT SHE NEEDS TO WANT TO...

Dee   July 22nd, 2010 12:46 am ET

She need to spend the time like every other person have she is not know different then the next person use her ad an example for other people who thank there money can buy the law the judge is sitting a great examplevby not following the law equally

Krysten Morgan   July 22nd, 2010 2:22 am ET

How much time she might serve all depends on her judge, but I'm sure everyone knows that. I'm only 17 and been to court on charges similar to hers (and more). I understand that I'm only 17, so it's not really the same, but I'm here (on the outside). Now I will say that I had to get locked up for 9 monthes (but that was for all my charges put together). She needs help. And she needs to learn to take it when it is given. I'm not saying that JAIL is the answer, because it's not. What really needs to happen, as a change in her life, is that she needs to WANT to be sober. Sobriety takes time, effort, and support (from tha right/positive people). And if she is not willing, it will never happen. Rehab (which I understand she's been to) needs to be another option here. Maybe even if a police officer needs to escourt her there and back. It, like I said, needs to be an option. I used to watch that one movie (The Parent Trap) when I was little (over and over again). She's a great actress and singer. And that's saying a lot when it comes from me. That little Lindsey Lohan I saw on T.V. is still there, inside her, somewhere. I want to be able to see that in her again. As a message to Lindsey: "I want you to want to change. Do it for yourself. To make YOU happy. 🙂 I LOVE YOU LINDSEY! <3"

HOLLYROCK   July 28th, 2010 6:43 am ET
