Lindsay Lohan Hires Robert Shapiro as Her New Attorney

Posted: 06:56 PM ET

Lindsay Lohan's new legal team will include famed defense attorney Robert Shapiro – the man who founded the sober-living house she checked into on Wednesday.

Shapiro, who successfully defended O.J. Simpson in his murder trial, says he's agreed to represent the actress, 24, "on the condition she comply with the terms of probation, including a requirement of jail, imposed by Judge Marsha Revel," Shapiro tells PEOPLE.

"Ms. Lohan is suffering from a disease that I am all too familiar with," added Shapiro whose son Brent died of a drug overdose in 2005. "Hopefully, I can be of assistance to Ms. Lohan and Judge Revel in implementing a treatment approach recommended by medical professionals for Ms. Lohan's long term recovery and sobriety."

I'm certainly not surprised by Lindsay Lohan hiring a million dollar attorney to graft, bribe the utterly corrupted American judicial system. And they'll probably succeed. Shapiro knows a great many judical palms to grease and Lindsay has a great deal of money to use.

Likely Lawrence Taylor will use the same approach in his overcoming the charges of Sex with a Minor, Kidnapping, Prostitution and Rape. For the Average Joe, they'd already be in jail pending the trial as the set bail would be extremely high.

Does she really have a drug problem or is it a media creation? Lots of people are social drinkers, big deal as long as she is not driving. I think her only problem along with Britney Spears and others is smoking. Smoking will kill them, but an occasional drink won't. Why does the media ignore smoking as a problem, especially when custody of a child is involved like Britney Spears?

While I think it is wonderful of Robert Shairo to take Lindsay Lohan's case I hope his own unfortunate experience does not make him do TOO much for Lindsay. Getting her off the hook could be her death sentence.

there are some people in this world that are self destructive ...It's as simple as that....Give them the sun moon and stars,,, They will throw everything away.....You see it all the time..They just cant stand "prosperiety" ...Either in health dosent matter....They just have to destroy their lives...Lindsay..Marlyn..Brittany ..Judy Garland..Etc.Etc...And there are Men also..Even more so...

You can be sure that eventually a COURTROOM SHYSTER will surface with his hand out shouting.

If the judge is jewish, he will get her off.

You did a great job interviewing Mel Gibson back in 1997. Thanks for
showing Mel Gibson in a better time. He is clearly troubled now and
needs our prayers. I will be praying for him and remember everyone
in life needs our prayers at some time in their life.

I find that in general, I am biased against Defense Attorney's. Having said that, I am pleased that Mr. Shapiro is offering his services with the condition that Ms. Lohan accept the punishment already judged against her and that she seriously go into rehab. I hope Mr. Shapiro is sincere in enforcing those conditions and that this young lady finally gets some help she unfortunately has not had up to now. The jail time will quickly disallusion her of the idea that the rich don't have to play by the rules the same as the rest of us do.

i do think she should go to jail for the duis and not doing what the court has oredered and she is not above the laws in this country and why not she spoiled and a good actor on tv in front of the judge if this was any other person they would be in jail right now. just a rich spoiled girl who thinks she can get away with this, the judge is not doing her job as i see it she khows the law . send her to jail its the law whats she worried about her job or doing the right thing. and on the other hand money talks doesnt it whos paying who. just do your job.

Celebrities, celebrities, celebrities! You can't live with them, you can't live without them. Although I wish we could.

Lindsay is in a bad situation. She is frightenend, confused and knows what lies ahead. Every addict wishes they wern't addicted yet they fear getting clean. They fear a mental and physical recovery and worry how it will feel being sober. On top of all that Lindsay is facing jail time and going through getting sober at the same time. Good luck to her.

I think Lindsay's mother Dina is on the same drugs. They both have the classic victim (addict) mentality of denial and blaming and over sensitivity, not to mention not thinking clearly.

Its about time that Lindsay Lohan pays for acting like she is it. She is not even that cute. We make way too many excuses for alcoholics. It may be a disease but nobody puts that drink in their hands. Saying it is a disease makes it easy for people to get away with their behavior. Alcohol is the downfall of our society and also countries around the world. Throw her in jail, maybe then she will get it. She deserves it with her arrogant attitude and disrespect for the courts. She has put other peoples lives in jeopardy driving under the influence and she thinks it is funny.

Jeannie   July 19th, 2010 11:25 am ET

Grow up Lindsay and understand you have no special right to your wealth or fame. Your movies suck, you made a fool out of the fashion industry and you are a public threat with your DUI's which by the way is not a victimless crime. The public is tired of you.

The judge in the Lindsay Lohan case will probably save her life (or the lives of innocent people) by sending her to jail. Just as the judge did in the Paris Hilton case. She should be grateful, because nothing else seems to be working.
