Connie   June 24th, 2010 7:54 pm ET

I just heard on the news that BP is going to start drilling in Alaska. Also, they guard themselves and write their own guide lines. Please say it isn't true!

Smith in Oregon   June 24th, 2010 8:26 pm ET

American scientists who spent five years shooting nearly 1,000 sperm whales with tissue-sampling darts discovered stunningly high levels of toxic heavy metals in the animals, according to a report obtained Thursday. The extremely high levels of cadmium, aluminum, chromium, lead, silver, mercury and titanium together are the highest ever found in marine mammals, the scientists say, warning that the health of both ocean life and the people who consume seafood could be at dire risk.

That directly places 1 Billion people around the world directly at risk NOW because of Republican led American corporations that have dumped millions of tons of garbage and toxic waste into the Ocean not caring one iota about the consequences to the 'little people'.

jack   June 24th, 2010 8:54 pm ET

@Connie...Crazy isn't it? Also the govenors of Louisiana and Mississippi want to push ahead with a lot more off shore drilling, dispitethe fact this could end all life including the human race. Also the judge who over ruled the President's moratorium on drilling (twice) is heavily invested in big oil, and failed to recuse himself. Can things get any more obvious that big corporations are destroying America? We need leaders who will stop accepting their money and control this malignancy, before it is too late.

Jane Grewe   June 24th, 2010 9:03 pm ET

We saw Joan's documentary in Traverse City, MI at the Comedy Fest in February. It was wonderful and it was amazing. Wish she had been here to hear the praise. Thanks to her for sharing it with us. Been a fan for years!

Cindy   June 24th, 2010 9:10 pm ET

Your energy and drive are to be admired; I hope I am holding up that well when I reach my 70's. Thanks for sharing your story.

Max   June 24th, 2010 9:10 pm ET

Is there any topic that is off limits for a joke about celebrities?

Sandie Savelli   June 24th, 2010 9:23 pm ET

Joan you look amazing.
You are honest and genuine, kind and generous.
You are an inspiration to me!
I can`t wait to see your movie.

I love you. I'm a 49 year old gay white male. I have adored you since childhood. I have saw you perform live in Dallas in the early 80's and again at the Rivera in Vegas mid 80s.

Regarding Johnny Carson, while enormously talented, his ego was overcome by his enormously powerful influence when he was at the top of his game. I think he was a jerk.

You started at the Bon Soir as did Barbra Streisand. He held a grudge against her too until the day he died. It's like he felt both of you OWED him some kind of "loyalty." Completely irrational in my opinion. It is sad that he had such a dark side in spite of his great talent. I'm certain he was miserable throughout his final years.

jack   June 24th, 2010 9:39 pm ET

This disaster in the Gulf, along with the economic meltdown are direct results of the failed Bush/Cheney administration. Why aren't those secret energy meeting transcripts being made available for public scrutiny, at this critical time? Why is Cheney , who had been very vocal until the Gulf apocalypse, not coming out in public now?

Craig   June 24th, 2010 9:44 pm ET

Joan, did you know the late Totie Fields and what were your feelings about her? Also, you say you only talk about people you don't really like, did (do) you really not like Elizabeth Taylor who used to be the butt of many of your jokes?

Patrick Knotts   June 24th, 2010 9:47 pm ET

Thanks Howie, You just validated my comment. We LOVE YOU JOAN!

Dodie   June 24th, 2010 9:52 pm ET

BP started drilling in Alaska around 2001. BP has a long history of cutting corners and numerous oil leaks in Alaska. In 2008, The US Attorney Nelson Cohen stated that BP's Alaska operations were shoddily. Workers have died in Alaska under BP.

Dodie   June 24th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

@ Smith in Oregon

Excellent, Smith in Oregon. In order to find how toxic our oceans are, just sample the fat cells from top of the food chain, whales and dolphins. People have no idea that our toxic planet is crawling across OUR dinner table. Bon appetit!!!

@ jack

Good evening to you. As usual, your well informed comments are right on target. It has been noted that the oil companies have doubled or tripled in size during those 8 years.

Cindy   June 24th, 2010 10:10 pm ET

@Smith in Oregon,
Yes, the article about the whales was top and center today on Yahoo. However, I don't blame the Republicans for everything but the government having had many years of both parties bears a lot of blame.
As do we.

Ryan   June 24th, 2010 10:14 pm ET

Where was D. Trump??? I thought he would be a last minute surprise till I saw 9:59 on my clock. Would of made for a great interview.
She's his "Apprentice" of gawd sakes!

jack   June 24th, 2010 10:25 pm ET

@Dodie... Hi, hope you are having a good evening.

jack   June 24th, 2010 10:32 pm ET

Nice to see Joan, and Carl R., and Don Rickles so cheerful. I really think humor may have a role in keeping some people feeling young. Not true of all comics, but seems to be true of certain ones . At least Joan turns her ascerbic wit on herself sometimes, not sure if Rickles does.

Smith in Oregon   June 24th, 2010 10:59 pm ET

@ Dodie, thank you for your kind comments. Yes I've been explaining and stating for some time that toxic contaminations were mounting in sea-life and would soon reach the point of 'unfit for human consumption' whereupon either that species entirely disappears with the dinosaurs or they somehow survive horrific levels of mercury, cadmium, lead et. al. in their bodys reeking all kinds of abuse upon their health.

@ Cindy, having the equipment and political clout to dump millions of tons of America's toxic waste and America's garbage on offshore barges is a rich man's game, making it entirely a Republican led corporate effort. The little people in the Democratic led corporate small business's wouldn't even be allowed to step up to the plate. Yes, that information was released today after a 5 year study. However, as I mentioned above I have been stating those facts and warning of that problem for sometime now.

Smith in Oregon   June 24th, 2010 11:08 pm ET

Today, Republican's voted lock step against the bill to raise penalty's and liability's against Big Oil on future Oil Spills, go figure!

Today under the lie of fiscal responsibility, Republican's voted lock step against extending unemployment benefits, giving states a needed 13 Billion dollars to help create jobs, and funding to continue hundreds of thousands of State and Federal workers that will now be laid off.

What the Republican public lie of doing this under the guise of fiscal responsibility didn't state, was their vote was against the removal of Bush jr's tax breaks for the ultra rich which would have removed 13 Trillion dollars of the deficit over a 10 year period.

Preventing American taxpayers from saving 13 Trillion dollars is 'fiscal responsibility' ? Huh?

jack   June 24th, 2010 11:31 pm ET

@Smith in Oregon..Yes, it is hard to believe that people in some of the poorest states keep voting the Republicans back in office. The right wing propaganda machine must be awful strong to keep them voting against their own best interests. When will they understand that the Republican legislators by and large support the ultra rich's interests rather than those of the middle class and poor? How long have they been waiting for the trickle down economics to work, while propagandists like Rush advises their kids to go dumpster diving, while he lives in unimaginable luxury?

MAX   June 25th, 2010 12:12 am ET

Ms. Rivers~

Years ago, I saw you do your show at the RoundTable in New York City.
I was coaxed by friends to sit at a front table and, when you asked if there were any nurses in the room (there were no flight attendants)- I became your 'target.' I cannot remember ever having laughed that hard before that night ...or, too many times since then. Thanks for that memory!
After all these years, giving your time, energy and presence – not having sat on the sidelines as the wealthy former comedienne –
Take some time to smell the roses – you've earned the right to slow down!

marlene bertman   June 25th, 2010 12:26 am ET

im surprised that you and joan don't get what bugged johnny carson. its plain
and simple: you don't bite the hand that feeds you. after he entrusted
the tonite show to you, and you groomed yourself to perfection (with his
permission), you then took what he allowed you to learn and become and used it against him by going head-to-head with him which was really
a show of ingratitude on your part. and then on top of it all, you never
asked him about it first. joan darling, you were wrong. you didn't show
appreciation or kindness to johnny. sorry.

Dan Broughton   June 25th, 2010 12:26 am ET

I am about your age..perhaps a few years younger. Suggest you consider retiring..Don't be another Joe Pyne. At some point it became painful to watch this show. At least Johnny Carson was smart enough to quit at the top of his game.

Please don't keep hanging on and become a laughing-stock. Respect your work over the years. Cutting edge interviews don't really include guests like Joan Rivers or Phyllis Diller.

You have left a legacy but the longer you keep going, the more you jeopardize that. Remember the sequel to "Dragnet"?

Very best wishes..

A very long term fan

Billye D.   June 25th, 2010 12:51 am ET

Great show with Joan Rivers. I love the Larry King Show always.
Don Rickles called in to speak to Joan. That did not sound like Mr. Rickles at all. Was it really him? I wonder.

debb   June 25th, 2010 12:54 am ET

Joan when I lived in the D.C. area everybody loved you. I'm now in South Florida and everybody loves you. I'm now connected to friends all around the nation and guess what! Yup, everybody loves you. You go, girl !!

hollyrock   June 25th, 2010 2:27 am ET

All I can say is WOW. Ms.Rivers I could see that you were hurt by your own daughter's observation of you as a comedian; where it all stems from. You tried to play it off to some extent but it cut deep did'nt it? and you are damaged are'nt you? What you said about M.J. was very hurtful and as long as you continue to be so blatantly insensitive, you will continue to reap what you sow or have you forgotten how you were treated at the airport or how it feels not to be invited places? And if that is the case then you in Melissa's own words;are indeed very damaged. She must be so proud of you.

Dodie   June 25th, 2010 5:08 am ET

@ jack

Thank you for your kindness! Hanging in there emotionally... difficult to watch a biosphere being completely destroyed due to man's greed.

@Smith in Oregon June 24th, 2010 10:59 pm ET

Well stated! Most people prefer not to look at what we are doing to our planet. I thank you for all the information and hard work you continue to contribute! Thank You Smith in Oregon! Thank You!!!

Eric   June 25th, 2010 5:42 am ET

Sincerely Maria Copelli ,Sorry for typos...

maggie   June 25th, 2010 9:59 am ET

Ms Rivers many years ago I thought your take on life was pretty funny considering the pain you have experienced yourself in losing your husband... but whatever your beliefs are about a person please think before you come out with such talk...Michael Jackson was proven innocent and was not a drug addict so please take the time to find this out for yourself....

Sunny   June 25th, 2010 11:19 am ET

No wonder why Joan Rivers isn't invited to any parties, as she said herself last night. She has said, and continues to say, horrible, insulting things about too many people, dead and alive. She has a lot of enemies. How dare she refer to the great Michael Jackson who was never convicted of crimes against children as she did? Too many celebrities and otherwise wealthy individuals take pain killer – but in her depraved way she characterized Michaels' use of pain killer as drug addiction. If she could dance like Michael and was hounded by the fans and the press like Michael, she would take pain killers, too. The very fact that millions mourned and still mourn Michael's death is a testament to the love, admiration and regard with which he is held. Joan Rivers got very little support from her peers when she was on Celebrity Apprentice because she has a foul mouth and no one likes her. She and her daughter disgraced themselves on Celebrity Apprentice being rude and dishonest. Remember, they were fired from two TV fashion review shows. She probably thinks we forgot. The only reason she won Celebrity Apprentice is because Donald Trump was afraid of her bad mouthing him all over town. No one wants to see her documentary.

Wini   June 25th, 2010 11:47 am ET

Joan, you made a crack about Mary Tyler Moore's mouth and you approved the photo CNN used for this blog?

OMG ... LOL.

BlondieKnox   June 25th, 2010 1:06 pm ET

And she's how old now? What a shame that some people cannot let themselves age gracefully like we're supposed to do. Nothing in the world wrong with taking care of ourselves and wanting to look our best, but to try and take your youth back? Total narcisicm.

Cajazz76:24:8   June 25th, 2010 3:07 pm ET

Never was a fan of Joan Rivers, who drowns herself with self adoration and now looks like Mrs. JOKER. See her picture above. She, in her opinion, has the best face for someone her age, 73, that money can buy. Lots and lots of money went into that 'puss' and how many times have you heard of her donating to the needy, besides the efforts she puts in for the gay and lesbian movements? I said efforts, not money.

Joan Rivers, once dislocated her arm and shoulder by patting herself on the back.

Now that's funny

Les bleus   June 28th, 2010 5:06 pm ET

Joan is gonna be at the IFC Center thursday in NY to do a Q and A after three showings! I’m def there, I can’t wait to hear from her own mouth her opinion of the film

Former fan of JR   June 29th, 2010 11:17 pm ET

You need to educate yourself about Michael Jackson. NOT GUILTY. And why you had to say those ugly things on the one year anniversary of his death (at the hands of another) is beyond understanding. Not gonna see your documentary this week. Not gonna buy another piece of your QVC stuff until you get your facts straight and APOLOGIZE.

Joe T.   July 1st, 2010 1:19 pm ET

I used to play at a place called Copperfields Rock Palace in 1977/78 and Joans name was literally all over the bathroom walls...found out later it was formerly known as Bon Soir and she really did play there (Barabara Streisand too)! Cool! are great!
