Larry ,Thank You for doing this! I'd like to know how will these funds & to whom will they be giving ,for what aspect of the spill will it go to?

Not that I don't think what your doing isn't a good thing. But why are you asking people for money in this economy when BP should be paying for all the damage that was done by their accident. If any collection is taken it should be to pay for lawyers to make sure BP pays for all the damage caused by the accident.

HAROLD HOLBROOK   June 22nd, 2010 1:56 am ET

How come no-one is complaining about the oil thats being burned out at sea and carried ashore in the air and probably causing acid rain
to our trees and dispersing carsinagenics through out our country.

Brenda Bouteiller   June 22nd, 2010 2:03 am ET

I really hate to say this, but I feel this is going to take centuries to clean all the oil up. People and animals are suffering because of greed and more greed.Greedy people don't care who gets hurt.

Michael in Hawaii   June 22nd, 2010 3:46 am ET

Those against the 6 month moratorium on deep water drilling are afraid that this will hurt thier industry. With all the industries impacted by this disaster, fishing, tourism, etc., why should the oil industry not be affected? They should get a pass? Enough is enough.

What I dont understand is with all the high priced stars who were there how come you only raised that amount of money? How much does Ryan Seacreat make a year? how much did he give? Larry how's your salary and how much did you give? I would say most of these "stars" just do it for exposure and could give cash, cash pays bills for these people. I know the stars would answer "I give my time", your time to yank dollars out of people who earn millions less than you. Shame

Wendy   June 22nd, 2010 11:04 am ET

No one is donating to this "cause" because it is simply not our responsibility to pay for it. BP is accountable for every dime it takes to clean, and compensate for this spill. If a person crashed in to you with their car, the insurance would pay for it. You would not set up a charity to raise money, there is no need to. Let BP pay for every little bit of this mess and donate your hard earned money to other charities in need! There are plenty out there that are struggling in this economy. Just think the 1.5 Million could have gone to Feed the Children, UNICEF, Make A Wish, Susan G Komen, Homelss Veterans, so many who need it.

Susan62509   June 22nd, 2010 11:40 am ET

The more we give, the less BP will have to pay and the slower they will take to make payments to the companies in the gulf region.

Ted   June 22nd, 2010 12:59 pm ET

While "Teflon Tony" Hayward is cruising in a yacht and enjoying himself, CNN takes on the task of bilking decent people for a donation, so BP have to pay that much less!!
Perhaps Hayward will invite Larry King to join him on board and have a good laugh at the suckers.

BP caused this disaster and it is BP who should pay every penny for damages caused!! Nobody else.
Stockholders are the owners of the company and as such they are responsible for the operation of their company.
It is correct to cancel all dividends until all damages are repaired, losses compensated and the shores are all cleaned. No costs should be spared to achieve it ASAP.
Hayward and all officers of that company should have a 50% cut in their compensation to speed up the process and if found criminally negligent, should spend a little time in a nice confy jail.

gerald Jolly   June 22nd, 2010 1:08 pm ET

@ Tim & Wendy.

Think of it.

The donors have not donated for the purpose of cleaning up the spill in the Gulf.

They donated aprox. 15 million to help reduce B.P.'s debt to society

The worse part is that it was facilitated by persons that were only looking to increase their ratings

gerald Jolly   June 22nd, 2010 4:50 pm ET

Now that's living proof the LKL's telethon was a stupendous idea.

Can you imagine??

330 million people in the U.S. have donated 1.8 million dollars to help bail-out B.P.

Great Job Larry???????

gerald Jolly   June 22nd, 2010 5:54 pm ET

To all of my fellow Americans that were suckered in by this telethon scam.

You have my sympathy

Donna Schuppenhauer   June 22nd, 2010 9:41 pm ET

All the oil money in the world would not be enough to give back the normal life that once existed in the Gulf of Mexico. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those who have lost so much.
