Michael Jackson's brother, Randy, hospitalized for chest pains

Stay strong Randy.

Michael died one year ago and that is the truth.

Katherine's heart is clearly broken...but looking at her face in that photo brings truth so I am sure those who choose not to see the truth do not really see her pain, her overwhelming agony at losing her beautiful child.

Randy is struggling with the death of his brother Michael...and now he is in physical distress. Randy is one who really seemed close to his brother up to the end.

Michael's death is real, his family's pain and distress is real...and that is the truth.

Murray did kill this patient, a patient that trusted his doctor, paid his doctor very well, to keep him safe. Murray's arrogance and intense greed killed Michael. Randy believes 'others' are involved...only Murray can admit and reveal that truth...and I do not see that ever happening.

Respect Michael's death. He deserves to rest in peace.

To those who would like to help make that change, there is much need of manpower in the gulf...I posted the contacts but is was taken down. Google and find the way...'make that change'!!

Hope you feel better, Randy... Michael wouldn't have wanted to see you or any of his family suffer. He is finally at peace now from this crazy world and God will always be there for him, and for us as well. Just keep praying that Michael is happy, and let God do the rest. No need suffering over something we cannot control. I miss Michael so much and wish he was still here, but if Michael is happier in heaven, then that's where he should be... we can't hold him back because of our own feelings.

As we previously reported, Randy checked himself into a Pasadena hospital yesterday - but a rep from the family tells us Randy is now back at home and "doing OK."

It's unclear when Randy suffered his previous heart attack - or how severe it was.

I posted this on another blog, but wanted to repost – has anyone seen the documentary The Michael Jackson Trials? It aired on the Documentary Channel earlier this week. I was hesitant to watch it because of the title, but it was great. Hadn't heard anything else about it, just stumbled upon it. A couple of ammateurs started off wanting to do a documentary on MJ fans during the trial – ended up totally bashing how the media portrayed the whole thing. Has anyone else seen it?

Don't forget to download We've Had Enough on itunes or Amazon. I had never heard the song before. When you first listen to it, make sure you have the lyrics in front of you...holy goosebumps! Mike sounds more emotional in this song than any other, in my opinion.

I had read where Michael was trying to get into video games...and he loved Cirque so I imagine he was entertaining the idea of an MJ show when he was alive. It's just sad he is not here to see all this come to fruition, and to receive all the accolades being bestowed upon him in his memory. Which begs the ?, would all this be happening if he were alive? I would like to think yes but much of the world and industry turned their backs on him after 2005. He would have redeemed himself with the O2 concerts but I wonder if anything would have been enough.

That Murray wished Randy well makes my skin crawl. He is such an arrogant callous man. Randy really needs to take it easy...Katherine needs him. I worry about her...I cannot imagine what she is going through, trying to keep MJ3 safe ans protect them, the Murray slap in the face, and now Randy. Well I just wanted to say from watching the video that was here moments ago..........I always love the shot of Michael sitting up in that tree at Neverland. It looks quite high up there too. That was Michael showing another side of himself. I used to love climbing trees when I was young, was a bit of a tomboy, but I don't think I could climb a tree today to save my life.

A year ago today, I had never seen Thriller, never heard of Man in the Mirror, had no idea who sang Billie Jean, thought Michael Jackson made himself white, had no idea what a single glove was about, didn't even know Janet Jackson was Michael Jackson's sister, and thought Michael Jackson had strange relationships with kids. of course the family knows everything but they can't probably talk about it. either because they are not ready or it will hurt the case. either way I can't wait for the truth to come out. I agree michael looked very sad in bashir's interview, one thing he said in that interview always bugs me alot. he told bashir in that shopping mall in las vagas that he does ever want to die. everytime I remember his voice saying that, it makes me cry. I only watched that interview once and I will never watch it again. every minute of it was so sad and cruel.

I was a gassed as I sat and watched at the Memorial how many who were not their for The Man in the Mirror in Life were suddenly there in Death. And then those who were there in Life like Quincy and Diana not be there in Death. Hello, sorry that you are not in a good place at this time. Work can become very stressful and leaves you without time to visit or even talk. But, i can understand about that my treatments take's a toll on me sometimes. Everytime it is time to go I have to talk myself out the door, or remember that at one time a promise a good friend dear to me that I would not miss any more of my treatments. So Murray signed 'a document' the day before Michael died...but that document was not his contract. What was that document...the acknowledgment that said equip. was needed? His contract was still being reworked 2 days prior to Michael's death...was it ever signed? If not is AEG still responsible for not providing what was requested? I am confused as to what this means. If Murray was not legally under contract, he is still negligent in Michael's death but how is AEG being connected? Sorry Susan, law is not my thing!!

If AEG agreed to a contract for the tour, then does that cover Murray performing services in the home prior to start of the tour...will this matter??

'Pixie Dust' ,I was thinking back ,and rmembering why I was attracted to this blog ,and it was the Love here ,being shown to Michael.
In addition,to that ,It was around Sept,when I started seeing so many coencidences,and after many mths the coencidences added up to far too many .So like thousnds of others ,I began my own research .Admittedly through it all ,I have come to care for and Love others more .Michael has taught me many lifes lessons.

Joe Jackson Blames AEG for Michael's Death

Dr. Conrad Murray had requested lifesaving equipment and back-up help for Michael Jackson from the promoter of the London concerts - AEG - but the company never came through, according to a new complaint filed by Joe Jackson.

TMZ broke the story - Joe was gunning for AEG by filing complaints with the California Medical Board and another agency, alleging the concert promoter abused Jackson in a way that led to his death - and he's just filed with the Medical Board.

Joe claims days before Jackson's death Murray had requested a heart resuscitation machine and a nurse in several e-mails making the request, but AEG never provided it.

According to the complaint, Joe is accusing AEG of co-opting Murray's medical judgment by enticing him with a huge salary - in effect engaging in the "unlawful practice of corporate medicine."

Besides the CPR machine, Murray also asked for saline, catheters, needles and a gurney.

AEG and Murray had no comment.

The AP article is confusing, especially where CM signed a document and yet an AEG email said they were still negotiating 2 days after MJ's death.

When MJ died, the LAPD impounded CM's car (actually it was his sisters car). The LAPD said there was an AEG contract signed by CM but not signed by AEG in the car. I don't know what was written in that contract. It also appears from the AP article that someone from AEG may have sent a copy to CM too soon (prior to being finalized) or it was only a draft for CM to review.

AEG has always denied signing a contract or hiring CM. If the AP report is factual, that means that AEG, at that point in time, did intend to provide the equipment CM requested and in CM's contract it stated AEG "shall provide Dr. Murray for his use during the term with medical equipment requested by Dr. Murray to assist him in performing the services as approved by (AEG)." That means anything CM needed had to be approved first by AEG rather than CM buying things and charging it to AEG without their knowledge.

Whether or not AEG knew about propofol involvement is unknown. IMO, I would think AEG would question why CM needed a CPR machine and a gurney.

Yes, CM is still negligent and will be tried for involuntary manslaughter and AEG is not involved in his case at all.

The emails and document writings that Joe submitted to the Medical Board means the Board and the deputy attorney general will determine if a violation has been committed by AEG. Since AEG is not in the medical field, the Board will probably do nothing. If the deputy attorney general understands the entire MJ case, there is a possibility that the deputy could check dates on those documents provided by Joe, investigate and subpoena AEG to determine if AEG was aware of what CM was actually doing (propofol) with MJ. If the deputy can find anyone at AEG that has knowledge of what CM was actually doing, then IMO, AEG could be penalized for "intent" (knowingly and supporting) CM's activities to MJ. If that happened, AEG could be responsible for aiding and abetting and but not for murder.

Even though no contracts were signed by both parties, if the deputy can prove that the intentions were in place to hire CM (which will be extremely hard to do for the deputy), then there is a possibility that CM could be paid for his past services and Joe can file a lawsuit against AEG because AEG was CM's employer.

With AEG's money and political power it would be impossible to go up against them.

Carie, I must clarify that all of this is my opinion only. I am not a legal expert. If the Medical Board investigates and files any charges against AEG, it will become public information. It would take 5 months minimum for the Board to investigate, so it's a long wait before we have answers of what is truly going on.

Mary Jane – In all honesty, it wasn't an event in my life that made me change my opinion. It truly (and sadly) was Michael's death and the subsequent media coverage – mainly the excerpts of the They Don't Care About Us rehearsal. Ugh, it makes my stomach turn. But how ironic is it that the media did something positive in that sense? However, I will only give it credit for sparking my interest – the rest was research. And youtube. I will say that I wasn't a Michael Jackson hater before – but the bubble that I lived in before was really more like a bomb shelter, apparently. Just oblivious/ignorant. Although, I am a little young to have been exposed to everything MJ back in the 80s/90s...no excuse, though, I suppose! Just living with the regret kinda sucks. i am a close friend of michael jacksons eldest sons girlfriend i talk to her everyday she always has told me to belive her that michael is alive she says she speaks to him everyday so i told her i would also like to see for myself if she just lost her mind or is telling the truth i cant say the name of the hospital and what exactly happened on the 14th of april last month but i met him he is extreamly sick fighting his trmendous drug addition had a seizure 2 to 3 weeks back and was just released from the hospital on wednesday he is suffering from a disease called epilipsey which causes continous seizures of any kind .....i am not in a position to reveal any more info . but i'd like to end this message by saying all of you are doing a GREAT job please michael jackson would like more fans to find out the truth and with love in m y heart please do belive me because i see him everyday and my heart is broken that his fans still cry and go through so much pain although he is alive.

Yes, Michael was a true victim of the media, police, law and all those around him who wanted to make money off of him. They all took advantage of his “big heart” and kindness. It is quite obvious to me that you have a “huge heart” and rather critical of yourself… by this statement: (but the bubble that I lived in before was really more like a bomb shelter, apparently. Just oblivious/ignorant) I only hope you become gentle with yourself too. Regretting is a “catch 22” as we cannot go back and change it. If Michael were still alive and wanted to 'augment reality' with film, I believe he would do that without the need to fake his death. Michael expressed a desire to get into film, but not by faking his death. And no one, even MJ, could get all those gov. agencies (FBI, DA, LAPD, Coroner, Attny. Gen., Cal. Med. Brd.) to go along with such a stunt. And death by propofol? Michael would never fake his death by drug od especially propofol. And he certainly would not leave his children behind, nor would he expect them to lie. Do I wish he were still alive...absolutely, but that is not reality. It has been a Sony/AEG production, but only due to Michael's death. TII was all Sony/AEG...and I am sure there will be a TII-2 coming to theaters near you!
Would I be angry if he faked all this? Yes, because he would have manipulated and lied to his fans, had his children lie, created depression in some fans that led to suicides, and he would not be the MJ that I admire and love. That is not Michael Jackson.
Michael died and that is reality.

Susan, thank you for the info on AEG! I wonder, why would Murray order such equipment in the first place? Was AEG stalling? I don't know what to think anymore. This confusing case gets more confusing by the minute. I am more confused a year later than I was a month later .... I'm sure I'll be more confused this time next year than I am now .... 🙂

I don't know where joe got that information that AEG did not provide that equipement for murray, but if it is true, it's a huge deal. because it's not only wierd that he would request something like, but also it's more strange that they did not question it. it sounds like everybody expected michael to have a heart failure and it finaly happened.

Great comment from the Huff Post. Dimond's popularity is definitely fading. I believe she was fired by Court TV and Hard Copy. Also note that her TV Tabloid peer – Nancy Grace doesn't have her on as a guest and neither do the networks. I wrote to her last year and asked her if she would consider a public debate with Aphrodite Jones about the "facts" and she declined. Said that "MJ is a very emotional topic and I have a lot more history covering him than Aphrodite Jones does." As if and emotionally charged topic and number of years reporting somehow make her "facts" the truth. I think her popularity and income are probably cut in half by now.

Curious Cat & Diane in Minneapolis- I contacted her as well. The first time she responded sending me an article she had written. When I wrote her back to answer me with her own words, all she wrote was "whatever." If Larry is ever to put her on, with Charles Thompson, Geraldine Hughes, William Wagener, Aphrodite Jones or better yet a Jackson- I don't think she would show up.

Michael Jackson Estate, AEG Pays for Memorial

Michael Jackson's estate and AEG have agreed to pay the City of Los Angeles $1 million to cover the cost of the MJ memorial last year.

In addition the estate and AEG will pay $300,00 for crime fighting equipment, as a make-good for the memorial expenses.

City officials determined $1.3 mil will cover the costs of police services, permits, Sanitation Department and Transportation Department expenses incurred for the memorial.

GURLIEEE, thanks for posting that recent Akon radio interview, in which he acknowledges that he believes Michael is still alive! lol. 😀 I think it pretty much trumps what he stated in his tweets a year ago. Besides, didn't you notice the time of his tweets when he said Michael had not passed and to pray for him....after 7 P.M. on June 25th? If Akon was in the United States at the time he tweeted this stuff, Michael had already "passed" several hours before that. lol. I beLIEve we ARE now witnessing the innovative movie project which Michael spoke of to Geraldo a few years ago. This is the project that is indeed gonna take the entertainment medium to the next level! What an understatement, huh?? And Michael, being the genuinely compassionate soul that he is, found a way to give profound meaning and purpose to it by bringing a much brighter awareness of so many (alarming) things occurring in the world today, encouraging us to follow his example of making important changes for ourselves and our Planet Earth. He also has been given the opportunity to escape and rest from that fast-paced life of chaos in which he had been trapped for sooooooo long, giving his children a taste of a much more normal life at the same time! Of course, just think about how many terrible people are being exposed and, hopefully, brought to justice for their crimes against humanity....tabloid journalists, doctors, cops, etc....the very people who abused him and mutilated his good name and reputation. This whole venture is SO INCREDIBLY MULTI-DIMENSIONAL, only a stellar genius like him could pull it all off with unprecedented success. It's no wonder that so many people simply cannot process or comprehend any of this. Michael Jackson really didn't fake his death. HE CREATED THE ILLUSION OF HIS DEATH! WOW!! June 25th is approaching very fast........and it is hard to believe a year has almost gone already.

Michael Jackson's children are still fighting a "daily battle to cope" following the superstar's death a year ago, according to his mother Katherine.

The Thriller hitmaker died on June 25 after suffering a cardiac arrest and Katherine was named guardian of his children, Prince, 13, Paris, 12, and eight-year-old Blanket.

She admits the kids are still mourning the loss as the first anniversary of their dad's death approaches – but she hopes plans for them to abandon home-schooling and attend an educational institute with other children will help them recover.

Katherine tells Britain's Sunday Mirror, "It has been a daily battle to cope with our huge loss... (The kids) don't have any friends. They don't go to school, they have private lessons at home – but that will change in September, when they are due to enroll at private (school).

"But they have their cousins and aunts and uncles around them constantly, and that's helped them immensely. To them, it's normal, it's the life they have known. They have a certain time to go to bed, then they get up and get dressed for lessons. They practice karate and swim, which they love."

And the 80-year-old reveals Jackson's only daughter Paris still has a shrine dedicated to her late father in her bedroom.

Katherine adds: "I wanted to hang pictures of flowers or ballerinas in Paris' room, the sort of things I expected a girl would like. But she went into a closet and she brought out seven or eight pictures of Michael and she told me, 'No, I want Daddy hanging in my room.' So she goes to bed looking at him and wakes up looking at him. She said, 'I always want to be able to see him.'

"Paris has that lovely way, just like him, and I see his talent in her. Whatever she does, she is very good at it. She's a good artist, she plays the piano and she wants to be an actress."

Michael died one year ago this Friday...he died and his children are really missing him especially today, Father's Day. My baby and her daddy celebrated their first FD, and I enjoyed time with my dad...it makes me feel sad for Prince, Paris and Blanket losing the only parent they have ever known. This was their first FD without their daddy. I hope they make lots of friends and live a happy life filled with cake and holidays and laughter!! Love to MJ3!!

The Investigative Reporter Fails to Show Much Respect to the Late King of Pop
On tonight's 60 Minutes on CBS, investigative reporter Steve Kroft referred to Michael Jackson, and others like him, as 'working stiffs'.

Kroft's report centered on the amount of money that deceased stars' estates are making. Kroft interviewed an agent who represents primarily dead celebrities. In his report, Kroft pointed out that at the time of his
death, about a year ago, Michael Jackson was nearly $500 million in debt and his commercial outlook had dimmed.

Since Jackson's passing, his music has seemed to capture another generation of fans and his legacy has grown. As a result, the financial fortunes of his heirs and his estate has benefitted tremendously. Large corporations have again seen their way to 'have Michael's back'.

DisneyLand, in reopening of the Captain EO attraction after shuttering it for years, is a prime example of that. From an artistic point of view, Jackson has been honored as contemporary artists such as Lenny Kravitz have talked about working with Jackson and the influence he had on their lives and careers.

So while it would seem to be logical that a show such as 60 Minutes might report on the financial success of Jackson's estate after his passing, it surely will be off putting to many, to say the least, to hear about Michael Jackson referred to as a 'working stiff'.

60 Minutes and Kroft have long been perceived as class acts. The reporting on the show is tough and uncompromising, but it has always been done in a fashion that is fair and tasteful. But in tonight's episode, the reference to Michael Jackson as a 'working stiff' seems to be a misstep to say the least.

At some point, the media has to remember that dead celebrities have family, friends and fans who will mourn their deaths for a considerable amount of time. While the business aspect of all entertainers is certainly fair game to discuss and report upon, even after their deaths, the referencing of one of them as a 'working stiff' seems to be gratuitous at best.

Hey lady! I am loving being a mom! Hubby was volunteering with cleanup in the gulf last week (such a sad situation) so he was about 8 pounds lighter and exhausted physically and mentally, and he just held on tight to his little girl. My heart breaks for Paris...she just seemed so close to Michael, they had a special daddy/daughter bond. Michael gave those children more in the short time he had with them then many dads give in a lifetime, so I wish them happiness and laughter and a life filled with the things money cannot buy. Did anyone catch Geraldos' show last night? He claims that in Murrays contract with AEG that he requested a nurse to assist him and also cpr equipment and AEG denied the request? Wonder if AEG was aware of what was going on at the house? If they suspected or knew Michael was using something and denied the request I feel they are as much to blame as Murray.

I agree...problem is proving AEG knew anything and Murray can only provide his truth on the matter and it would be his word against AEG...sad.

The only way to implicate AEG is if there is documented proof that they knew why Murray needed that nurse and equipment...I am sure they knew exactly what was going on but heresay is not enough, imo. The emails Joe has that Oxman (UGH!!) presented to the Cal. Med. Board may have something along those lines but not in the info presented that I have read. I sincerely believe AEG has blood on their hands but will basically get away with murder...and I fear the same for Murray.

Great to see ya! I swear I've got to get over to your blog again! I hear that's where all the girls still meet. Right now I'm doing the fb thing but I do miss chatting. I have been a mess the past couple of weeks anticipating June 25th. It's funny because last year on that day it was the last day of school for my daughter. In fact the children did a dance routine to 'Beat It' at their assembly that day. We came home all excited, ready to start summer vacation and then I got a call from a family member who said " Did you hear about Michael Jackson? He was rushed to the hospital. " I immediately changed my television to CNN and there it was. Then about 20 minutes later they were pronouncing him dead. I was on the phone at the time with a girlfriend and we both kept saying in surprise " Michaed Jackson's dead! They just said Michael is dead! " I remember saying to my friend, " Cheryl let me call you back, I can't talk right now ". I thought I was going to faint. I can barely type right now thinking about that moment. This year on June 25th I'll be attending my 5 year old cousin's graduation to the 1st. grade. It's going to be quite a day....like I said before just thinking about it makes me feel lightheaded. I'll be so proud of my little cousin but at the same time Michael will be on my mind. I am looking forward to visiting here on the blog Friday. I am going to need that support. I've gotta go now, the memories are starting to become overwhelming.... : ( .

I assume that is from TMZ. I completely agree. Michael’s children are still struggling from the loss of their father. Even adult children struggle for a long time with the death of their father, especially if he was close to them. People, including many fathers, do not realize the impact they have on their family with their death.

If AEG dnied the nurse and the proper equipment, Murray should not have been giving Michael the propofol. It was still Murray's fault since HE was the one that gave him the drug that killed Michael that night. Murray should have hired the nurse himself since AEG was paying him $150,000 per month! If he felt the proper percautions were not in place, then he should NOT have given Michael the drug that night. Joe is trying to pin it all on AEG because they have deeper pockets, but it is ALL Murray's fault......I cannot believe he is still allowed to practice medicine. With the mask finally removed, her tearful goodbye humanized him in the eyes of millions of adoring fans and even skeptical detractors across the globe. Paris Jackson was the poignant conclusion to her father Michael’s celebrated memorial service. At the same time, her few words served as a painful reminder of the conflicted legacy that, as some proclaim, the greatest entertainer of all time leaves behind in the wake of his sudden, tragic and mysterious death. In Michael Jackson’s passing, this international icon casts as many if not more unanswered questions about the out of the ordinary life he led behind the curtain of his private stage.

Intense speculation over the star’s actual cause of death has ranged from an accidental overdose to explosive allegations from some family members of foul play and even murder. In the later stages of his life, Jackson was caught in a downward spiral of prescription drug abuse fostered through a tangled web of star-struck enablers and unscrupulous members of the medical establishment. As in his life, Michael Jackson was engulfed by complex legal and ethical dilemmas even at the precise moment of his death. Questions concerning the custody of Jackson’s three children, whether those children are connected to him biologically, control over and division of his complex estate, burial procedures and a final resting place for the star’s remains, use of Los Angeles public funding for a celebrity laden memorial service at the Staples Center and countless more controversial issues moved in swiftly like an ominous and heavy fog in the days and weeks
following June 25th.

Upon his death, the Pandora’s box that is Michael Jackson’s secretive but highly scrutinized life burst open once again and the media as well as the public’s insatiable appetite for all of the juicy details immediately became palpable. The daily headlines read like vivid medical records. ‘Michael Jackson’s Autopsy Photo,’ ‘Michael Jackson’s Hair on Fire,’ ‘Michael Jackson’s Leg Wounds and Needle Marks,’ and ‘Michael Jackson was Sterile’ are just a few. Only the most imaginative fiction writer could create a story with such high drama and sordid twists and turns. Even with all of its tabloid entertainment value, it is a monumental disservice to Michael Jackson’s memory that a thoughtful analysis of his significant cultural contributions, particularly in the realm of human rights and social justice, are being obscured in the process of examining his death and now his corpse.

Through his prolific body of work, advocacy initiatives and multi-million dollar charity efforts, Michael Jackson raised international awareness and support for some of the most complex and timeless issues confronting the human condition. AIDS, cancer, famine, homelessness, gang violence, racism, totalitarianism, environmental degradation, child abuse, violations of animal rights, restrictions on freedom of speech and other infringements upon basic civil liberties are just some of the difficult subjects Jackson tackled by leveraging the power of his celebrity. Michael Jackson’s intuitive understanding of the problems besetting the human ecological system was uncanny and uncharacteristic for any entertainer close to his magnitude.

Many have been so dazzled by Jackson’s masterful showmanship and the consistent controversy surrounding his life and death that it would be easy not to recognize the overarching social and political themes embodied in his music, videos and public interviews. The intense emotional pull, messages and raw feelings that reverberate through the lyrics and sometimes disturbing video imagery of songs such as “They Don’t Care About Us,” “Heal the World,” “Earth Song,” and “Man in the Mirror” are gut-wrenching. A deeper analysis of Michael Jackson’s work reveals an individual with a burning concern for improving the lives of the disadvantaged and persecuted around the world. The passion and verve with which Jackson digs his hands into the soil and grasps the trees in his video for “Earth Song,” an operatic piece where he addresses environment and animal welfare, is a reflection of a leader of humanity who cares deeply about the
issues he is challenging.

Global events in the weeks surrounding Jackson’s death alone directly mirror the complex problems for which he attempted to raise international awareness. In Iran and before the world’s eyes, civilian demonstrations were squashed and innocent victims like the young Neda Agha-Soltan brutally murdered by instruments of a totalitarian state. In Washington , D.C. , a white supremacist motivated by pure hate attempted a killing spree at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, murdering an African American security guard in his rampage. In North Korea, U.S. journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee were unjustly sentenced to twelve years of hard labor to merely serve as international bargaining chips for an evil dictator. Michael Jackson spoke out loudly against these forms of racism and repression and attempted to ignite our passion to prevent the continuance of such abuse, neglect and discrimination. How are we now missing this message when it is even more
crucial for it to be absorbed into the public mind? Not only do Michael Jackson’s cries of awakening continue to be ignored but his reputation continues to be smeared.

With the current fixation on the gruesome details surrounding Jackson’s physical demise, we have lost focus on the social relevance of Michael Jackson in our cultural timeline. Jackson’s symbol has the power to force what might be a difficult and uncomfortable period of public self-reflection. What progress has been made on the global humanitarian and civil rights issues that Jackson brought to light for the masses? What realistically still needs to be accomplished in each of these realms to actually make future progress? These are the crucial questions that need to be contemplated in the context of Michael Jackson’s death.

Many may ask why this controversial figure, a man who has been the subject of intense criticism and public backlash, should be given such gravity in framing public discourse over the day’s most important topics. Sometimes it takes one person, not just a political or spiritual leader, who stands out symbolically from the rest of society, to make that society reflect on the principles that it follows and the values it embraces. Jackson , throughout his life and in his death, has been ridiculed and revered, vilified and vaunted. In many respects, his story represents the highest possible highs and the lowest possible lows that life can present to a human being. Michael Jackson’s tremendous talent, success, wealth and public adoration were at odds with his extreme loneliness, fear, addiction and destruction of reputation by public opinion. In the end though, Michael Jackson was much more than an entertainer. His contributions to the entertainment
field are no doubt profound. However, it is his broad cultural impact that truly transcends economic, social, political, racial, religious and generational barriers. Jackson rose from being simply a magical performer into becoming a humanitarian of historic import. He was a modern day messenger, a visionary storyteller who raised the level of consciousness for citizens across national boundaries. This level of contribution is what the social contract demands of those who are blessed with natural gifts, power and wealth. Shouldn’t we then embrace and support people who are destined for this life mission instead of deriding them? As history progresses and Jackson’s symbol and work are analyzed in conjunction with the unfolding of human events, the important cultural relevance of his persona will be uncovered. Like a piece of classic Greek literature that embodies timeless themes of human striving and suffering, Michael Jackson’s canon and
celebrity will come to hold a similar place in the modern day cultural pantheon. Why then was it necessary to shoot the messenger?

Martin Bashir’s highly controversial 2003 TV documentary, ‘Living with Michael Jackson’ is just one of the many examples of the ways in which Jackson was unfairly portrayed in the media. The documentary was a PR nightmare for the star. Bashir’s video interviews and commentary were cleverly edited as to purposely paint Jackson as a megalomaniac child molester. The film focused, in a highly negative manner, on the abuse Jackson suffered as a child at the hands of his father, the rumors behind his drastic physical transformation, his intense friendships with young boys, the nature of his past romantic relationships and questions concerning the genetic lineage of his children, among other sensitive topics. Bashir conveniently cut out footage that presented a countervailing impression of Jackson. Bashir’s documentary and Michael Jackson’s subsequent rebuttal, in the form of a TV special hosted by Maury Povich, provide a candid, never before
seen glimpse into what made this man tick. In many respects, Michael Jackson was a lonely soul who found the greatest comfort isolated behind the gates of his Neverland ranch and in the company of animals, children, carnival rides and opulent possessions. In the last years of his life, Jackson became reclusive to the point that he was unable to function even within celebrity society due to the immensity of his fame and the parasitic attention drawn by even the briefest public appearance. Examining these interviews, it becomes clear that Michael Jackson is one of the most misunderstood figures in modern day popular culture.

The incessant media backlash against Michael Jackson throughout his career and now in his death is driven by the fact that Jackson, as a symbolic figure, forces us to look in the mirror and face the difficult and sometimes intractable problems of our society and in ourselves that we may not want to acknowledge. How dare he? Jackson brilliantly shines light on civilization’s accomplishments and failures in their most extreme forms. To be repulsed by the drastic transformation of his face was to simultaneously recognize the excessiveness of a beauty obsessed culture that allows money to change even the most fundamental components of our DNA. When looking and commenting on his mask, weren’t we also secretly acknowledging both the literal and figurative masks that we sometimes hide behind? Ironically, Michael Jackson’s physical changes led him to be branded as an “oddity” or “freak” by a media culture that promotes physical perfection
through any means necessary. As Jackson proclaimed during his interviews with Bashir, “Plastic surgery was not invented for Michael Jackson!”

The child molestation charges brought against Jackson first in 1993 and again in 2005, for which he was skewered and roasted by the media and public, were baseless extortion attempts fueled by the petty greed and jealousy of his accusers. Despite settling the 1993 case and being acquitted of the 2005 charges, Michael Jackson’s commercial appeal and public image were severely damaged by the allegations. The child molestation charges against Jackson represented a modern day witch hunt in its most base form. Unfortunately for Jackson, the hunt was not localized to Salem but played out globally through the aid of modern media technology. The molestation charges were fueled by likely feelings of inadequacy in the parents of the alleged child victims who were so enamored by Jackson. Perhaps these parents did not believe that they could compete with the love and material fantasy that Michael Jackson provided to their children which caused them to lash
out in desperation. Jealousy combined with greed is highly combustible. The media’s depiction of Michael Jackson as a plastic surgery obsessed eccentric made him an easy target and an unsympathetic victim. It just wasn’t believable that someone that acted and looked like him could be kind, sensitive, compassionate and loving. What was the motivation behind it all? What was wrong with him? There had to be something askew. What if Michael Jackson’s motivation was simply to give hope to those less fortunate? Was all of this then just the senseless destruction of a human being to satisfy our insecurities and quell our fears of the unknown and misunderstood.

As we reflect upon Michael Jackson’s life and now death, it is difficult not to feel sad for the man and view him in a tragic light. With all of his power, wealth and fame, he now lays before us like a bird crushed after being pelted repeatedly by outsized stones. Dejected, Jackson continued to turn inward, fearful of what the world he cared so deeply about changing for the better was throwing at him. The drugs just served as an opiate to the pain of an artist and humanitarian that was overburdened by a mission that he didn’t believe he accomplished. Addicted, it was the greed of those surrounding Michael Jackson who continued to indulge his desires out of self-preservation. The numbness of the painkillers relieved the ache caused by knowing that despite what he sought to give and change in the society around him, the burden of his creations and the scathing critique it engendered had become too overwhelming for one person to sustain. Michael
Jackson was a modern Sisyphus, the loin clothed man condemned to repeatedly pushing a rock up a mountain only to see it roll back down. Sadly though, our Sisyphus collapsed under the weight of his struggle.

Michael Jackson was inflated to the position of a pop deity, a mythical figure, only to be crucified and stoned by the media gods who created his success. His bold eccentricities lied outside of the norm of standard, socially acceptable behavior but were they necessarily illegal or wrong? No. Most of Michael Jackson’s actions were unconventional yet, at the same time, wasn’t the grandeur of his celebrity and global status beyond anything that modern day culture has ever witnessed? His grandeur, his eccentricity, each influenced and exaggerated the other.

It is undeniable that Michael Jackson’s immense celebrity and wealth allowed him to remove himself from mainstream society and observe the world from a privileged vantage point. Sometimes though, it takes that fortunate but isolated position to be able to make the least polluted social observations and ultimately produce the most effective societal commentary through art. Throughout history, the work and lives of multiple artists have been ridiculed and scorned by the public during their heyday, only to be placed posthumously into the canon of the Greats. It is without doubt that Michael Jackson will, in due course, garner this same level of critical acclaim as an artist and most importantly, as a humanitarian.

I did not visit the NY Post site on a whim...I was reading tweets from mj4justice and they were livid...so I wanted to read for myself the vulgar spew...and my anger got the better of me. Nothing media is safe anymore...even the NY Times will have garbage in it that can be considered repulsive. And yes, that lovely freedom of speech. It works for trash more than for credible journalism. So by reading any media it is supporting tabloidish junk...and so it goes. Maybe someone should visit mj4justice and discourage them from their fight as it is a moot point.

As for that new book of 'Katherine's'...I will not purchase anything MJ anymore as it always seems to support someone's agenda...and who knows what the real deal is with this book or anything else MJ. Michael's children will be well provided for and money is the least of their worries...I think they would be better of without all that evil money and be left alone to live their lives and make their own way in the world. Michael raised them to be strong and independent and they will thrive with or without a huge inheritance.

Howard Mann porportedly will be Katherine's business partner for the unreleased song he purchased from a storage locker that Joe/Katherine did not pay the rent on. It turns out, the 273 unreleased tracks are mostly from a 1975 variety show with the Jackson 5, some from MJ, , and a some with MJ and other singers. The estate will go after Mann for anything MJ as Mann legally cannot release anything with MJ or his name.

IMO, Katherine is not a business woman and she has excellent legal advisors like Streisand, Branca, Weissman, McClain that she could call to get background information on a person prior to establishing a business contract. Her concern should always be to protect the reputation of the children during her lifetime.

@Susan....I appreciated reading your thoughts re: Mrs Jacksons’s book project.

I think the website for Mrs. Katherine book is interesting. I was wondering how many others noticed the "clue". Unfortunately I have been unable to discern its possible meanings. I hope that compiling the book was cathartic for Mrs. Katherine. I would love to see those never before seen photographs and her commentary about them. I don't think the pictures are compromised, even if some of those apparently involved in the project have allegedly shady reputations. Sadly, it seems that is the way of most business ventures... Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter. Of course, everyone needs to do as their conscience guides them.

I am sure the GAL is looking out for the financial interests of the MJ3. However, with the stress between the Estate and the Jackson Family, I would be surprised if Mrs. Jackson's counsel would want her to consult directly with Branca & Weitzman for advice, though. They would seem to have possibly adverse interests with the probate and estate matters. Generally when one is represented by counsel, one does not directly consult legal counsel on the other side of the issue. Of course this is California, so who really knows what goes on with their Rules of Professional Conduct. *sigh* Hopefully Katherine's legal team is giving her sound advice and they have completed their due diligence in this matter. I am sure she is getting much advice, perhaps even unsolicited, from many directions. Sadly, no matter what she does, it seems like there will always be those to find fault and criticize her, or the rest of the family for that matter. It makes me glad that I never had to deal with the issues that that family and Michael has had to face in their lives the past half century.

I was also intrigued by the comments I came across that Harvey made on TMZ yesterday regarding the way Dr. Murray is conducting himself while awaiting trial. Those comments interested me and I think he made some good points. Interesting perspective. Which begs the question....is Murray the ideal client? Makes me wonder how much preparation he is getting from his legal team and their media people. And how poor, insolvent Dr. Murray can pay for a first rate defense. I wonder just how much Chernoff & Co. has advanced on this matter.

I also wonder how many more years we will have to wait for answers?

Anyway I hope that the original LKL bloggers will be here on the 25th. I would be nice to check in with everyone one year later.

Susie ,@2;46 yes I wish Mr Sneddon could be indicted ! I agree with you ,Geraldo said a while back ,that Mr Sneddon ,broke all kinds of Laws! Yet he got away ....how can this be? Some feel ,there were some powerful people behind him,and some wonder why Michael was frightened,and had trouble sleeping? How would we feel to believe some one was out to ruin our career ,and slander us,not just in a small town ,but WORLDWIDE! Joe's wrongful death suit against Murray...90 day waiting period to file is Friday.

As always thank you so much for your response and information. The complaint filed by Oxman (UGH!) for Joe regarding wrongful death against Murray stated several times Michael had, among other things, brain swelling. I cannot bare to revisit the autopsy...do you remember brain swelling? I remember basal ganglia calcification, but not brain swelling. The claim also states Michael was disoriented, forgetful, scared and very cold, etc...he must have either hidden this well or those around him were too in awe to see anything. I hope Joe wins to keep Murray form ever cashing in on Michael in any way...books, interviews, etc.

Mila, thank you for posting what Michael wrote about caring for the earth. He is so right because the earth needs to be nurtured and cared for. I think that we take too much for granted. It amazes me to see people who just carelessly litter and pollute the earth and take no responsibility for it. They have the attitude that someone else will clean up after them. We should all feel a personal responsibility to care for the earth and all of it's beauty and never ever take it for granted.

Incidents like the Gulf Of Mexico oil spill should open our eyes to the dangers and risk involved and what we stand to lose because like I've said before, once it's gone there is no getting it back.

I heard recently that the government of Tanzania is proposing to build a highway across the northern portion of the Serengeti in Africa which would then sever a critical wildlife route and interfere with the annual migration. Why can't humans leave nature undisturbed? It seems that we always find a way to disturb the balance of nature in order to profit. I intend to contact Tanzanian government officials to let them know how much I and I know many others would oppose this plan.
I can't believe that they would even consider doing this.
It would have a disruptive influenceon the Serengeti ecosystem and greatly interfere with one of the most wonderful spectacles in the world – the annual migration in the Serengeti..
