More parents should be like him if you like to see children exploited and their lives endangered so their parents can get 15 minutes of fame.

Tries to parse his way out of the clear admission that he was shopping a reality show in a way that would have done Bill Clinton

Yes regor, it's better to do nothing and be safe while your butt continues to become the shape of your chair.

This guy is worse than "balloon boy's" dad.

At least "balloon boy's" father never placed his son in any real danger.

Summary: This was a stunt meant to springboard a reality show. Only there won't be a show since Abby failed.

Yeeugh. These spolight-craving parents need to stop involving their underage children in their attempts to get attention and wealth.

If there was any sane people in our justice system, the very least this poor excuse for a parent would be required to pay for all the expenses that were incurred by the rescue people.

This oil is easy to pick up give fishermen salvage rights to all they can pick up buy it for a fair market value and turn them loose. I think they have salvage rights any way just prove it.

If the idiots in government cant come up with a better idea fire all of them and get someone in that can count their fingers I am realy annoyed with all of them and their lousy track record.

I was reading where this man has seven children, with the eighth on the way. The article also said he admits he is broke.

@Sara said, "More parents should be like him." How so Sara?

This man can't provide for his family, and he send his minor children off to sea? How is that good parenting? We know there are Pirates out there. He put his daughter in harms way!

I am so friggen sick of people using their children as a latch way to money. What a shameful society we've become!

Why are people critical of this adventurous teenage sailor and her family? Does anyone remember Robin Lee Graham? He was a teenage kid who sailed around the world in the late 60's and he made the cover of three national Geographic issues! I think that teenagers/people who take on adventurous challenges like this are great! And better because of it! I guarantee you that this kid is more mature, confident, and independent than your typical American self absorbed coach potato kid. She is obviously a skilled sailor and obviously grew up sailing. There is risk in every thing, especially great things. She almost died, and that would have been awful, but she and her family accepted those risk the day she set sail. To each their own, people shouldn't make a big deal over this. Enough of the helicopter parents!
