Politics is King: Biggest thing to happen to Washington DC since...

Posted: 02:53 PM ET

There was big news in Washington this week.

Sure, there were a bunch of primaries on Tuesday, and the Palestinian President met with President Obama at the White House to talk about Middle East peace, but that's not it.

Stephen Strasburg made his debut for the Washington Nationals.

With that, here are some other stories you may have missed this week:

1. Former IL Governor Rod Blagojevich was ordered to stop tweeting during his corruption trial.... you can see Blago's last tweet HERE (TIME)

2. Disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff was transferred Tuesday from prison to a Maryland halfway house to serve out the remainder of his sentence (CNN)

3. On his 40th birthday, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick moved in to a new home... a level-four state prison in Michigan (Detroit News)

4. AZ Senator John McCain and "Snooki" from the 'Jersey Shore' discussed a very important health issue over twitter this week. (Vanity Fair)

5. What do some White House staffers do in their down-time away from work?  You'll have to click HERE to find out. (Famous DC)

Hi Larry,
Good morning folks.

A savage act of terrorism was committed on the tragic morning of May 31 by a state which considers itself above international laws & norms of behavior, with an attack on flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. 9 civilians including a young American were murdered ruthlessly. Another brave retired American diplomat was also sailing with the flotilla along with peace loving people from Europe among other countries.
Mankind is outraged.
Courageous & conscientious Jews from America,Israel & Europe are condemning this savage crime which damages any effort to restart the peace process. Jews from Germany are planning to send even a bigger flotilla in July.

Irony is that our establishment, politicians & the media is toeing the spin put out by the Israeli officials based on doctored evidence which now stands exposed.
Some of our law makers are even proposing that we aid in the in-human blockade of Gaza & thwart any efforts to investigate the crime, falling over each other to prove their allegiance to that rogue regime.
What a sad reflection on this great nation of ours who once stood on the side of Justice & Freedom.
I salute those Americans who sailed with the flotilla & I salute all Jews around the world who are standing up for Justice, Truth & Peace.
But then we are conditioned to respond in this manner.

It’s like Borak Obama ruined politics for everybody.

First he started off with “Change” and re-inventing the wheel in Washington using Russian tactics such as appointing czars.

Then when he seemingly got everybody on the hooks, he won’t even appoint a czar for the gulf oil spill.

To staff: a couple of months ago I watch LK interview a man who discussed "walking away from your home" and its mortgage when there are no other options. I can't recall the man's name. Was there a book title? And is a transcript of that program still available on line?
Thanks, George

How very sad that the US State Dept. appears to publicly have absolutely no understanding why Brazil and Turkey wouldn't back Sanctions against Iran.

Nearly as sad as their PR move to have Israel conduct its own internal investigation on Israeli Commando's that executed 9 Turkish civilians on a Turkish flagged Nato cargo ship in International Waters and the Israeli Officials that approved the illegal boarding, piracy, murder, kidnapping, torture, theft of goods and grossly disproportional application of force. All serious international crimes which Interpol should be the ones investigating and charging these crimes in International courts.

In regards to the US State Dept. Head Scratching on Why:

Obviously Turkey had recently brokered a humanitarian mission to broker the small amount of slightly enriched Uranium that Iran has with a complete set of fuel rods that Brazil has for Iran's small medical reactor. Turkey is a large national power in the Middle East and did that to help defuse the critical situation between Iran and America, instead Israel see's that as the act of a enemy, go figure!

Obviously Turkey is very unhappy about 9 civilians on its Turkish Flagged cargo ship being executed by point blank single shots to their heads by the Israeli Commando's in their attack upon the Gaza peace Food and Medical supply flotilla, go figure!

Two of those killed or severely injured were American Citizens, I certainly hope American's living on Main Street, America are angry and upset at the outrageous and brutal act of murder and piracy conducted by the Israeli Commando's in International Waters on a NATO flagged civilian ship upon them.

What is not so obvious but should certainly be known by CNN investigators is that for decades the CIA has supplied and trained the Kurdish Tribes directly across from Turkey's border. The CIA did that in hopes the Kurdish tribesmen would originally enter into Iran and attack Iranian troops. Later, the CIA hoped the Kurdish tribesmen would attack Saddam's troops and help topple Saddam's govt. HOWEVER, many of the Kurdish Tribes had ancient disputes with the Turks living beside the border of both Iraq and Turkey and instead began slaughtering Turkish civilians. That continued until finally Turkey sent diplomats to the White House in America and demanded the CIA cease all such support and weapons supply to the Kurds period.

Turkey has a great deal of leverage in the situation. A huge amount of US Military convoys travel thru Turkey to Afghanistan and to Iraq. The airspace over Turkey is also highly used by the US Military transport jets to ferry cargo to Afghanistan and to Iraq. ANY attack by Israel upon Iran would require its fighter-jets cross thru Turkey's airspace.

I strongly suggest Turkey realize that Israel now considers Turkey to be a enemy of Israel and react accordingly. Close Turkey's airspace to Israeli Jet's, stop all previous agreements Turkish Govt. and Turkish Military had with Israel AND tell America that any further Turkish civilian deaths by the Israeli Commando's or CIA armed Kurdish fighters will result in Turkey closing it's airspace to America's Jet's, and closing its borders to the US Military convoys.

Turkey should accept Russia's new good will and purchase multiple S-300 anti-aircraft missile batterys to add to their country in case Israeli Fighter Jet's decide to go rabid and bomb Turkey.

Smith in Oregon   June 11th, 2010 7:48 pm ET

America needs serious defense spending cuts across the entire US Military. Hundreds of useless overseas US Military bases are entirely hosing down the American taxpayers and need to be retired.

Thousands of US Naval vessels that are entirely useless today should be retired. Dozens of gigantic super aircraft carriers while of all the other country's in the entire world, there is only ONE.

The US Military is going to come hat in hand to Congress and demand 100% of its equipment used in Iraq and Afghanistan be replaced with newer and very expensive equipment. Congress needs to stand on behalf of ALL the critically needed infra-structure needs across America and tell the US Military, HELL NO.

America can continue to bomb a sand dune 1/2 around the world, or it can build a 3rd. generation electrical national grid that is absolutely needed to move America into fully using alternative energy (Wind, Solar) and electrically powered vehicles in mass. America's taxpayers cannot afford to do BOTH.

America can continue to pour 50% of its annual tax revenues into the US Military and US defense contractors or it can chose to instead focus on domestic spending, Public Schools, Immigration, Dams and Canals needing replacements, Harbors and Ports needing repairs, rebuilding America's manufacturing base at home. America's taxpayers cannot afford to do BOTH.

IKHAN   June 11th, 2010 9:36 pm ET

Hi Larry,
@Smith in Oregon

couldn't agree with you more on your two posts. Defense spending cuts & an end to war mongering is the only way out for this nation strapped for cash & drowning in debt. Look at our infrastructure, schooling, cities across the country cutting back on education, welfare projects, police & fire fighting capabilities. The list could go on & on. We should at the same time cut back on billions doled out to countries like Egypt & Israel every year.
As for Turkey & Brazil voting against us. Well that reflects on our foreign policy which we have up side down as carved during the Bush-Cheney era of infamy & which is unfortunately still opearative.
WE have lost our weight & credibility in the M.East, a region crucial to our geo-political & economic interests. Where we are fighting two desperate wars & need to get the general population on our side.Turkey turning its back on us is a red flag to re assess our Iran stance & Israel ties.
Latin America seems to be moving out of our sphere of influence. Brazil & Venezuela two heavy weights there illustrate that. Cuba doesn't need any elaboration.
In Asia China & India are gradually moving towards world power status & wouldn't toe our line. Korean peninsula is rendered fragile grounds for us where we cannot find a sure footing. Even in Jpan we see stirrings of nationalism & anti-American sentiment.
We do not have the resources or diplomatic skills to woo Africa especially regions torn part by civil wars.
Europe scoffs at us & the general population there despises our policies.
So there it is

IKHAN   June 11th, 2010 9:48 pm ET

Hi Larry,
@Smith in Oregon
there should a congressional inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the attack on Freedom Flotilla on the morning of May 31& the murder of a young American along with other fatalities.
Those law makers & politicians who obstruct such an investigation & back this savage act of terrorism should be perceived as anti-American & disloyal to American interests.
As this would directly impact our efforts in Iraq & Afghanistan & put our troops there in greater danger. In fact fatalities could increase by the anger of the general population directed against America. Ask field commander and they would agree.
We have to do what we can to strengthen the hands of our commanders there in achieving their goals & not let some self serving politicians sabotage that whole effort.

Smith in Oregon   June 11th, 2010 10:39 pm ET

Republican conservatives Whitman and McMahon buying their political seats represents a scary future for American's living on Main Street, USA not be represented by 'of the people' but only and solely by those on Wall Street, USA who don't give a tinker's damn about American's living on Main Street, USA. Special interests got them into their political positions and if elected, special interests would be their sole concern.

A republican tea-potty member is strongly running on placing the enormous Social Security dept. into the hands of private corporations! I suspect the Republican Party's attempt to privatize Social Security is an attempt to conceal and remove evidence that the Republican administration of Bush-Cheney ROBBED Social Security of Billions of dollars and placed fake illegal IOU's into the empty coffer, go figure!

Sadly, it appears at this critical juncture in America's Future, that those that scream the loudest are the ones most actively trying to run America's direction and future.

Democrats across America need to find their Voices and Step up and Use Them!

The Republican-Tea Potty goals, mantras and direction represents a incest insanity which America cannot afford to follow much less elect into public offices where they would force those racist, bigoted and ecocide values onto all Americans on Main Street, USA.

Smith in Oregon   June 11th, 2010 10:53 pm ET

@ IKHAN, thank-you for your intelligent posts and kind comments.

America's political members must steer Israel away from taking such grievous and outrageous acts of pure violence in resolving disputes with Turkey, Gaza residents and the rest of the Middle East.

Israel, West Bank and Gaza residents are filled with generations of hatred, violence and anger with one another and with themselves. America must help Israel move to humanitarian resolutions and a iron clad resolve to move to the peace process which will greatly diminish the violence and mass loss of lives in that region of the Middle East.

American's lawmakers cannot simply on principle step back and not condemn Israel on their illegal act of murder and piracy in International Waters on a NATO flagged vessel, it is a international crime and not simply a mistake or a case of finger pointing. Israel cannot board a NATO flagged vessel in International Waters unless that ship is Israel's themselves.

Israel is beginning to realize what it did on that recent peace flotilla was very wrong, immoral and a rabid Israeli response to humanitarian relief for the Gaza people.

Turkey should immediately deny Israel overflying their airspace and severely warn America that any further illegal and immoral outbursts from Israel against Turkish citizens would result in a denial of the US Military to move convoys on the land thru Turkey, as well as thru Turkey's airspace. Those and those alone will push America's ultra conservative Republican lawmakers into a sudden realization that Turkey holds a great deal of power and leverage across the entire Middle East and expects its ally's to treat them with respect and internationally agreed upon legal behavior.

What the Republican party, Bush-Cheney does not want you to know about it's relationship with BP:

Ever wonder how did BP become so large and encompassing in the arena of America's political arenas and energy needs?

The horrific Republican administration of Bush-Cheney of course, thanks to BP's millions in campaign dollars to the Republican party and Bush-Cheney, virtually ALL of the enormous supply of the US Military's fuel needs are coming from, You Guessed it BP!!!

During the Bush years, BP enjoyed an enormous degree of economic and political power in Washington. Though it appeared at first as if Obama might change this fundamental equation, the young president has so far failed to act sufficiently. Now, in the wake of the Gulf disaster, we shall see whether Obama and Democratic lawmakers have the political courage to finally take on BP and the big oil companies while significantly ramping up alternative energy.

All these shouts and Media News cattle calls for America's Govt. to divest BP nationally from all of its current and 'future' Oil leasing contracts on America's Territory are really pathetic and entirely lacking in reality. No Way and No How are the US Military and big oil's Republican lawmakers going to allow that to happen. It is simply empty angry rhetoric, nothing new and nothing worthy of wasting News Media's time reporting on it.

Republican lawmakers have had America over the Oil Barrel for many decades. And frequently a rapid rise in the price of gasoline has forced a national election in the favor of the Republican candidate EXCEPT it didn't work for McCain-Palin. It backfired on the Republican led Big Oil company's, American's with rapidly dwindling funds from the Bush-Cheney economic plunge and resulting Wall Street Bailout couldn't readily afford 5.00 per gallon of gasoline and largely rebelled.

President Obama and the Democratic lawmakers need to press on for wider use of alternative energy, wind and solar farms, larger ethanol mixtures (20,50,E85) in America's standard automobiles across the board. Republicans won't help America move away from Big Oil, Democrats and Americans living on Main Street, USA must do that themselves.

Connie   June 12th, 2010 2:42 pm ET

Why isn't Obama repealing the Jones Act so we can get skimmers from other countries? We need help now, we need this fixed immediately!

Smith in Oregon   June 12th, 2010 2:58 pm ET

Coast Guard Admiral Thad (BP Spokesman) Allen is under increasing pressure from President Obama to have BP control the Oil Gusher from their exploded Oil well in the waters off Louisiana and a viable containment plan by this weekend.

Sounds great, however several independent witness's have repeatedly stated seeing the following HORROR EVENTS taking place.

Private commercial fishermen have placed their OWN Oil booms off the coast of Florida in hopes of protecting the beaches and their fishing grounds from the poisonous, toxic Crude Oil that is surging ever closer to those pristine beaches and fertile fishing areas.

The Coast Guard has been ramming their ships purposefully into those private Oil booms, destroying them! SMASHING OIL BOOMS makes absolutely no sense, it is like a gang of Nazi's kicking in people's doors just to terrorize them! American taxpayers PAID for those Coast Guard Vessels and unitedly own them. It is a huge injustice for Coast Guard vessels to smash and destroy Oil booms placed by private commercial fisherman who are trying to prevent the poisonous, toxic Crude Oil from fouling the fertile fishing grounds and pristine beaches along Florida's panhandle.

CNN, if possible please interview some of those Floridian fishermen whose Oil booms have been smashed and destroyed by the crass and callous actions of the US Coast Guard who purposefully rammed, drove over and is actively smashing them with their Coast Guard vessels.

"Oil?"; The tragic B P oil spill has a good side and will bring the
industry down to its knees. For many years the industry had the politicians in thier back pocket , and visa versa ! The result has been a drain on the economy since gasoline prices are no longer competetive , a sad departure from what use to be Democracy ! Because of the good coverage by CNN and rest of the Media,
we know what is going on? The obvious BP inability to cap the well using an inadequate method allowed them to decide to drill two more relief wells with the plan to intercept the supply line to the BOP, if they miss it , they admit it is a long shot ?. Would they then drill down to the oil supply ? ( I think so !)
Why drill two wells when one close to the flowing well would be a more logical choice? Is it that in the end they could end up with three wells? I know that sounds like a stretch but the sure way to cap the flowing well is to" Bury it "with thousands of tons of mixed aggregate and dry mix of bags of concrete that are available for the use in water and can be used "as is". This could have been done much earlier, the leak would now be history ! I am not aware of the distance between the three wells ,if they are too close and more room required to build a hill and cap the oil flow ,thier location will be critical !
This is an accident no longer waiting to happen and BP is the recipient of a lot of pent up anger with the oil industry and executives that have done thier best to throw money around like confetti and drive up oil and gas prices at the expense of you ,me,the economy and invierment ! !P S Its getting very late !We must "BURY IT"!!!

gerald Jolly   June 14th, 2010 7:09 am ET

Several questions for all LKL bloggers.

Do you think that Larry King has a death wish??

Do you think that Larry King wants to get out of his contract with CNN??

Do you think that Larry King chooses his guests or are they forced on him by the CNN executives??

Do you think that Larry King has dementia, and is becoming senile??

The reason these questions are asked, is if none of the above are real why would he have a no-talented boob like Kathy Griffin on his show.

gerald Jolly   June 14th, 2010 7:11 am ET

@ Donald Allan.

Would you mind re-blogging your last comment by using the english language.

IKHAN   June 14th, 2010 2:44 pm ET

Hi Larry,
Hi folks.
I agree with @gerald Jolly
Its time Larry King Live, the show we have enjoying for so long, brushes up its act & starts lassoing in people who really matter & are relevant to current affairs.
@Donald Allan.
I have said this before & would implore you again to try making some sense. We would like to hear what you have to say-man.

The news is folks that Harry Reid & the Democratic Caucus is asking BP to put $20 billion in an escrow to exhibit their good intent to pay for the clean up, this after President Obama asked BP to establish an escrow.

Well I think its time something like this is done.
