'American Idol' – Congrats to Lee, and adios to Simon

Posted: 07:54 AM ET

Lee DeWyze has been named the winner of the ninth season of American Idol, triumphing over judges’ favourite Crystal Bowersox, reported the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old from Illinois stole the show by taking the recording contract prize in Idols finale that aired live on Tuesday, with millions of US people casting their votes in what was judge Simon Cowell’s last ever show.

But it turned out that that it was  a closely call, when host Ryan Seacrest revealed that the pair entered the final show with just two per cent of votes dividing them.

Meanwhile, a lighthearted film package recounting highlights from the Cowell years was shown, and comedian Dane Cook came on stage to sing Simon Says, made up of the Brit’s barbed comments, and to crack a few jokes.

“You have the honesty of Abe Lincoln and the charm of the guy who shot him,” Cook told Cowell, who took the ribbing with a smile.

A one night NO-TALENT wonder, he wont be around a year from now.

I personally dont think that he is that good.

Congratulations to all the contestants in this season of American Idol. They were all winners and will, if they choose to, be successful in a career in music/entertainment. To Simon, say what you will, he is a critical element to whatever endeavor he undertakes and it certainly will leave a void in the essential makeup of Idol without his presence. To those who were taken off balance by his act, it was just that, an act that provided a differential to offset others who judged the contender's of the show...

Last night I was flipping between Larry King Live and American Idol and I really wish the results weren't announced during Larry King at 9:30 pm before the whole West Coast watching American Idol found out. This really ruined it for me, my wife and children that were all watching. You would think you might just say that the winner of American Idol will be on Larry King tomorrow instead of mentioning the name and ruining it for so many of us! I am a huge fan of Larry King but this was VERY disappointing!!

Adios Simon, I hope people treat you in the same manner that you have treated many of the contestants over the years. Perhaps after a divorce you'll find humility.

Once again the most talented person on American Idol did not win. This is why I am not a big fan of the show. Crystal Bowersox is very gracious in all her comments and a class act. Personally I think she was by far the best singer this season, and she got ripped off. It's going t be interesting to see where she versus the winner will be a year from now.

Congratulations to Lee! I think he earned the top spot as he really grew during the competition. He and Crystal both are great! Third runner up Casey James was one of my favorites also. Loved his performance with Bret Michaels.
