The environmental Sierra Club is comparing this enormous ecological disaster across the once beautiful Gulf of Mexico to the health catastrophe of the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor explosion which bathed humanity around the world with ton's of highly radioactive Iodine, Cesium and Barium which killed and severely impacted hundreds of thousands of children and adults.

Is the comparison realistic?

Unfortunately it is IF Commercial fishery's ship toxic crude oil contaminated fish, oysters and shellfish to worldwide consumers who in turn get poisoned by eating it. THAT is a very realistic possibility.

There are going to be enormous amounts of pressure to capture and ship contaminated seafood, oysters and shellfish or hundreds of thousands of business's and family's in Louisiana alone will go bankrupt in the years ahead. Undoubtedly that is going to force individuals and business's that would normally never conduct such practices to do so.

The Huge Gulf of Mexico Dead zone produced by the enormous crude oil spell is entirely comparable to the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor explosion's deadly footprint with lasting effects for decades to come.

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 7:30 pm ET

Do you believe President Obama's pledge that BP will pickup the entire expense costs of this BP / Haliburton Crude Oil disaster?

Hell NO, Absolutely NOT. Although President Obama's pledge is entirely in good faith, he doesn't have control over the Republican led US Supreme Court who previously ruled in favor of Exxon in protecting Exxon from paying court ordered monetary judgments.

BP / Haliburton knows damn well that US Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts has their back to protect them against real meaningful punitive monetary judgments to entirely offset American Taxpayer dollars being entirely used for the 200 BILLION projected real TOTAL COSTS from this ugly ecological human caused foobar.

American taxpayers are undoubtedly going to get screwed at the gas pumps to quickly make up the slump in Big Oil's stock profits just like Big Health Industry giants previously did with hyper-markups on Health Care costs.

BP / Haliburton has floated 3 Billion earlier and now 7 Billion in its total expenditures in clean-up costs. That would stick American Taxpayers with 193 BILLION dollars in debt to make up. 97% unpaid by BP / Haliburton does that sound FAIR to YOU?

AND if the Big Oil supporting US Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts and his posse of conservative majority US Supreme Jurists rule in favor of 97% unpaid by BP / Haliburton, that would FORCE American Taxpayers which had absolutely ZERO liability in this accident to pay out 197 BILLION dollars, what does that tell you about the Republican led US Supreme Court and their special interests who do not include the American people?

Asked: Was the car bomb planted in Times Square an international terrorist plot? The vehicle was parked awkwardly in a congested location where cars are tagged, ticketed and towed aggressively, the engine was running, the hazard lights were flashing. A car filled with smoke pouring out. Fireworks and non-explosive fertilizer were found.

The only thing missing was a "Look Here For Bomb" sign. While certainly a criminal act as it could have exploded, it was shoddy work for an "international plot". It may have been executed by one of the few terrorist groups that the CIA failed to train (we don't really know who is responsible). The CIA did such a terrific job of training/backing the Mujahidin in Afghanistan that they evolved into the Taliban.

There is never an easy way to relay the death of a loved one, especially a child, to their survivor's. The way it was told to you was both cold and cruel and coming from a chaplain it was, in my words, bordering on demonic. I wish you the best in passage of the Money-Burge Law and hope it serves others much more appropriately in the future than what you and your husband, Dave, had experienced. Best regards, and my sympathy for the loss of David. Through your persistence and the cooperation of the state legislature in Ohio, he will have a legacy that will live on.

Pvbh   May 3rd, 2010 8:37 pm ET

It's about time wecget real serious about terrorism, we need to get tough now!

Lu McDonald   May 3rd, 2010 8:59 pm ET

It seems to me the oil companies who have these platforms in the sea, should demonstrate to the government that they have the products and technology and system in place to clean up their mess in the worst possible scenario, before they are given a permit to do any drilling in the sea. Like a car, so to speak, you need to show you have insurance to cover your accidents and that's even worse considering the damage to all living creatures and the economy of the area should be reimbursed for all losses and naturally the clean-up of the environment. Another disaster for Louisiana.

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:04 pm ET

Sun glasses would be good his eyes moving around is trippy .

Murray H.   May 3rd, 2010 9:08 pm ET

Unless I missed it, in which case I apologize, did the guy(s) who sold the car to the suspect happen to mention if they were white or brown? You know 'brown' as in Middle Eastern...

Leo norman   May 3rd, 2010 9:12 pm ET

This is my question why not make it mandatory for all offshore rigs to have a automatic shut off vale so that there is no way for this to ever happen again. Its disappointing to think that the oil company's have no respect for the environment at all.

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:13 pm ET

I think the clock is ticking and sooner our later some ones going to follow threw .

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:15 pm ET

Maybe the cops should look for people doing stupid stuff like the flashing lits and stuff .

Brent   May 3rd, 2010 9:16 pm ET

Is it such a "mystery" to Authorities/anyone to the fact that the whereabouts of this misfortune incident took place... I am baffled to think NYC Authorities would not have already/previously thought of or "took into consideration" at all times 24/7 that Times Square area would be/could be targeted as a "hot spot" for terrorism in the past... this area should have possibly been "secured" ahead of time...?

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:19 pm ET

I bet New York wishes for the good old days where you just got stabbed or mugged

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 9:20 pm ET

During the horrific Republican led Bush-Cheney administration, immediately after this Amateur Hour terror act in Times Square occurred, they would have directed the US Justice Department to:

Enact a 5 day Waiting Period on the sale of all used Nissan Pathfinders!

IKHAN   May 3rd, 2010 9:22 pm ET

Hi Larry,
we have to wait & see where the investigation leads. We have misguided souls here too harboring all sorts of grudges
It doesn't look at this stage like the work of an organized group. The claim of Pakistani Talibans is just a desperate attempt to show bravado. They are being eliminated & pursued ruthlessly by the Pakistan army.
They would want to be seen rejoicing albeit & thank God, over a failed threat.

But that doesn't prove anything. Recall 9/11 & the footage of Osama Bin Laden our arch enemy, rejoicing. Then Israelis dancing glee fully on a roof top filming the horror. Benjamin Natanyahu saying 9/11 has been "very good' for Israel.
So what does that proove??

Allen   May 3rd, 2010 9:24 pm ET

This was a test, I dont care what people say. American Intelligence needs more money and more out of the box thinkers, if thats the phrase. I am tired of our government confusing people and not having a plan from the getgo!!! I hope when the SOB terrorist is caught, they have a plan and a way to deal with them. HIG is that what its called, is that in place now? I hope there is a system in place that is orderly and cooperates so that American intelligence can keep us safe!!!! This is another test!!!! Next time what happens????
We need people who can act not just react!! I know this is it! they are testing us!!!

Allen   May 3rd, 2010 9:26 pm ET

Eric Holder is wrong!! Why does he want to do that? Ridiculous!

Sal   May 3rd, 2010 9:28 pm ET

I am watching Tom Ridge on Larry King Live regarding the Times Square Incidence. He mentioned that there could be "a radical Imam" behind this. May be he know something we don't? Interesting...

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 9:30 pm ET

Potentially 1 Million American Jobs directly and indirectly lost because of this BP / Haliburton drill baby drill knee jerk reaction to global oil output peaking and now steadily declining around the world.

For every 4 barrels now used in America alone, only 1 barrel is replacing it on the world market.

The long running addiction to Big Oil forced upon the American people is going to decline regardless of all attempts by the Republican party to continue the special interests of its biggest corporate donors.

Michael   May 3rd, 2010 9:32 pm ET

No evidence? No problem! That's why we need a special court for terrorists and any other "Undesirables" that Tom Ridge wants to throw in jail. So they can convict you in a private court with no trial and no presumption of innocence. God bless America!

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 9:33 pm ET

The enormous Oil Spill across the once beautiful Gulf of Mexico is directly in the exact same shipping route used by ALL incoming South American imports (coffee etc. etc.) and a huge amount of Imports and Exports which flow out of the Mississippi Delta waterways.

That huge very fertile Ocean region is a strategic region for America's direct health as a nation.

wayne   May 3rd, 2010 9:34 pm ET

The other night i watched a brief interview with a muslim clerick in new york.He favoured terrorism and actually encourages it and has praise for those who commit terrorist acts against the u.s.
Why is a mental case like this allowed to remain in the u.s.and i pray that someone is watching him and his followers.

Allen   May 3rd, 2010 9:35 pm ET

this is tragic! I wholeheartedly agree with Kennedy! When did they know about this cement? Lobbyist didnt want cement? What do they do in the North Sea? I am confused by this!!

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:35 pm ET

People are getting careless thats why this happend .

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:36 pm ET

This seams like the oil rigs would be a target from Islam .

Allen   May 3rd, 2010 9:39 pm ET

All these tragedies!!! I don't know which is worse!
Problems always occur from within! And from coverups!
I hope they figure this out! We cannot bungle our environment for the next generations, etc!!!!!!

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:39 pm ET

Really if we have our own oil then they loose money .

Radick   May 3rd, 2010 9:39 pm ET

the major concern for me is that this great democracy might be forced to become a bona fide police state, due to terrorists which cause a big brother situation in the making...

Catrina   May 3rd, 2010 9:41 pm ET

The oil spill most likely could have been prevented by using an acoustic switch, ia last-resort protection against underwater spills, and is required by regulators in Norway and Brazil.
Shame on our govt. for not requiring this and shame on these arrogant greedy companies for not voluntarily doing this. I hope every single person affected by this sues BP & all thise involved. And that they are sued on behalf of the wildlife too.

Allen   May 3rd, 2010 9:42 pm ET

Nature is crying out for what we did. Why are wo so wreckless! WHY CANT OUR GOVERNMENT DO ANYTHING RIGHT LATELY!!!!

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:42 pm ET

The aliens did it .

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 9:42 pm ET

A ha, a brief moment of clarity on how this explosion likely happened. Kudo's to Larry King for his brief interview of Kennedy who stated the vast majority of these kinds of rig explosions occurred when cement was used to seal off the exploratory drill casing.

OK, Haliburton was doing that on that rig during the time when the rig exploded.

WHEN cement is used to seal underwater, a caustic chemical is added to the cement which severely heats up the cement which cures and dries the cement in a extremely short period of time, even when that cement is underwater.

IF there is the slightest miscalculation of the addition of curing chemicals OR the total amount of time it takes to have that cement completely in place THEN serious problems exist.

IT is entirely likely the curing chemicals were improperly added to the cement which heated the cement poured down that deep sea well casing to the point that it ignited natural gas flowing out of that exploratory well.

DICK CHENEY bypassing exploratory cut-off's and his associates at Haliburton sound to be smack in the middle of this huge foobar, go figure!

Chaney, La.   May 3rd, 2010 9:43 pm ET

I dont know how we recover from an ecological/economic disaster like the one playing out in the Gulf. It really is another example of Corp. misdeeds... these oil companies have raped and pillaged the Louisiana landscape for decades.... they canaled the wetlands to lay the pipelines from the Gulf inland, and if you ask me the State of Louisiana has never been compensated enough, we have paid the price.

Allen   May 3rd, 2010 9:43 pm ET

Catrina   May 3rd, 2010 9:44 pm ET

Oh so Cheney let them off the hook in regards to the safety device.
How long will this country have to suffer from the evil misdoings of the Bush administration???

john from canada   May 3rd, 2010 9:46 pm ET

Maybe its time to close the door on certain obvious problem groups
coming to our shores with intent to cause meyhem..esp.when they openly speak about what they want to do and encorage others to follow.
Who let them the first place?

Barry - Ashburn, VA   May 3rd, 2010 9:46 pm ET

As Tom Ridge pointed out, thanks to our unthinking reporters and interviewers, people who are trying to kill us and their imitators now know just what they did wrong in making the Times Square car bomb and how to make a better car bomb next time. Why don't you and other anchors and editors use some self discipline and discretion on the information you glean from experts?

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:46 pm ET

The reson this oil rig blew up should be a priority to prevent other such accidents around the world .

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 9:47 pm ET

Wow, its a good thing Bush-Cheney gutted higher education for Americans interested in becoming engineers so their corporate special interests could use cheaper engineers located in India and China.

Now America has a great need for qualified engineers across the board and America is paying a very high price, go figure!

Chaney, La.   May 3rd, 2010 9:49 pm ET

I read where Proctor&Gamble have shipped 1000 bottles of Dawn dish washing detergent to NOLA and have another 1000 ready to go to wash the affected wildlife.... Thanks P&G.......

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 9:49 pm ET

Will this effect the gators or drive them north .

Ron Brourman   May 3rd, 2010 9:55 pm ET

After the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in 1989, we heard over and over again how the oil companies and other knowledgeable people in the industry were going to study how this happened so that this type of tragedy would never happen again.

Now nearly 21 years later, in the midst of this ongoing and massive BP oil spill, Senator Mark Warner of Virginia and a number of other people are saying "we're going to do studies to find out how this tragedy happened so that it never happens again."

While these two oil spills were resulted from different sources and were completely different in every way, the fact remains that offshore oil drilling is inherently risky. If we continue to allow large-scale oil drilling throughout the coastal United States, the significant risk of this happening again will still exist, regardless of politician's and the oil industry's assurances. With all of the drilling going on in so many places, it will only be a matter of time before the next major oil spill.

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 9:55 pm ET

@ Micheal Armstrong Sr., it appears the reason the oil rig blew up and is spewing huge amounts of heavy crude oil across the entire Gulf of Mexico was Dick Cheney's direct interference with EPA safety regulations of requiring automatic cut-off valves on all deep sea drilling operations (exploratory wells were apparently bypassed per Dick Cheney's administrative legislation and pressure).

And Dick Cheney's former employer, close friend, largest no bid federal contractor and primary Republican donor, Haliburton's failed cementing of the exploratory well casing at the time of the explosion appears to directly connect both Dick Cheney and Haliburton as responsible and the reason the rig exploded and the reason the enormous Oil spill was not immediately contained.

Michael Armstrong Sr.   May 3rd, 2010 10:00 pm ET

@ Smith that sounds about right Elmer Fudd strikes again .

Ricky   May 3rd, 2010 10:01 pm ET

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 10:02 pm ET

To anyone that has gotten some Creosote on their skin, you'll realize how sad and deadly this huge Dead Zone across the Gulf of Mexico is to all marine life, shell fish, shrimps and mammals that are exposed to this heavy crude oil spill. Those endangered Manatees are going to be toast if some of that toxic crude get's on their skin which is entirely likely.

Regretfully but mercifully the vast majority of all the sea-life that is killed by the toxic heavy crude Oil will sink to the deep Gulf of Mexico's Ocean floor rather than float on the surface where passing birds would be tempted to eat them and themselves be killed by the toxic laden fish.

Smith in Oregon   May 3rd, 2010 10:06 pm ET

@ Michael Armstrong Sr., my feeling is that reptiles and in particular alligators would move themselves North into the deeper delta's and rivers when they begin sensing and 'smelling' the ever stronger toxic crude oil in the water. Reptiles and in particular Alligators have a very keen sense of smell and this will likely impact their habitat and movement for many years.

pat   May 3rd, 2010 10:19 pm ET

What about surveilance camera's where the attempted or faux bomb is concerned? Are there not at least one store in of all places NYC that would have loss mitigation/terrorist detective devices set up in the Homeland capital of the world since September 11, 2001? God, Deliver us all from all of our enemies! Please.

Angela Savage Austin   May 3rd, 2010 10:20 pm ET

My comment is not a fact, only a "What If" Scenario....I think of (3)...what if it was:

1. A lone Wolf
2. Sleeper Cell
3. Deterant to keep Trials for terriost from being held in New York...(The bomb was never meant to explode, just incite fear). It is a sad day in America for any reason mentioned above.

gerald Jolly   May 4th, 2010 12:07 am ET

They have now identified the two suspects

Suspect # 1 The BOOGIE MAN.

Suspect # 2 An Alien

gerald Jolly   May 4th, 2010 12:11 am ET

You would think the morons that planted that explosive would have done it in Washington D.C.

At least there it would have done some good.

I would suggest the GOP headquarters would be a great place to start.

Smith in Oregon   May 4th, 2010 1:21 am ET

@ pat, there are well OVER 80 closed circuit video cameras in the immediate area where that car bomb was hastily abandoned. If you like that kind of huge invasion in your life, then please cheer for such a wall of security cameras.

@ gerald Jolly, what NOBODY and I mean NOBODY even has uttered nor even considered is the possibility the car bomb was entirely meant for another location and for whatever Amateur Hour moments prematurely began igniting some components of that car bomb whereupon the driver pulled over and bailed out.

The Alarm timers appeared to be set to go off after for several hours had elapsed however something had prematurely sparked some of the components.

The driver turned on his hazard flashing lights which would have immediately triggered some response long before those timers were designed to go off.

A Pakistani student striking back at South Park's Comedy Central studio is of course a possible outcome, but folks should consider the plan was for the vehicle to be left someplace other than where it ended up.

Smith in Oregon   May 4th, 2010 4:03 am ET

How much is that blowout prevention valve that BP didn't want to use to save money is now going to cost them?

Bush and Cheney did it to us again, they purposefully weakened regulations on deep sea Oil drilling to directly benefit their special interest primary donors in Big Oil. And American taxpayers reaps the consequences!!!

Louisiana voted GOP. Deal with your votes.

Yes we hear your pain and anger Louisiana and Bobby Jindal but your empowered the Republican party in your State and now you are reaping those consequences.

lisa   May 4th, 2010 4:37 am ET

Allen, ... WE nor I that had anything to do with this tragic oil spill which now is and will remain killing many animals off all kinds including future HUMANS 🙁 ... this to breaks my heart also and I agree with you Allen on one thing, why cant our government do anything right lately. Though I had no hand in this tragic moment I feel horrable and have much concern for our animals as well as the Human race's future.

As far as the bomber?
I'm curious as to? Did this person that made these bombs:

Deliver, just another diversion attempt? To keep Americans focused on this and not what we should be focused on?
For every action, there is a reaction. As my mother always said.
I just find this once again and I stress again "not at odds" with a election pending. Note the word (not).

Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia   May 4th, 2010 7:07 am ET

The AG said the bomb planter's aim was to kill Americans.
It is Times Square and ciitizens of the world too will be killed.
Every tourists who visit NY City without fail will go to Times Square.
Kudos to the US authorities for nabbing him before he departs on the flight to Dubai enroute to Pakistan.
Lock him away for good. Revoke his citizenship.
I just pray it is a lone ranger act and not involving the Pakistani Talibans.
The Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud has vowed to attack major US cities in two purported new vidoes released months after his reported killing in a US missile strike.
"Our fedayyeen have penetrated the terrorist America, " AFP quoted Mehsud as saying..
Hope this is just a fake video and an empty threat.
Most of the people throughout the world have kids, relatives and friends in the US.
We want America to be safe always.

Christopher 'Bunmi Ogunade   May 4th, 2010 7:09 am ET

It's obvious that the bomb scare is a plot towards massive destruction of lives. the security personnel need to be more on the alert. The government should also be more sensitive to the plights of the hapless masses and be more friendly with nations of the world which are seen as enemies already.

Ted   May 4th, 2010 8:16 am ET

Congratulations to the police, FBI, NSA, CIA, DIA and any other agencies that may have been involved in catching that man. You did a fast and fine job.

If it was just a hoax then he should get 20 years of hard labour, if he really tried to kill countless innocent people, then he should be electrocuted, hanged and deported back to Pakistan, in that order.

gerald Jolly   May 4th, 2010 9:36 am ET

Very unusual, a man with a very common American english name, FAISAL SHAHZAD A.K.A. the BOOGIE MAN has been arrested for the atempted bombing at Times Square.

This is absolute proof that the U.S. immigration department are doing their job when they allow people of the MUSLIM faith to immigrate to our country.

When contacted the head of the immigration department said. "WE SCREEN EVERYBODY "THOROUGHLY".

Of course he was just KIDDING.

Rose   May 4th, 2010 11:06 am ET

It's not fair to consider immigration concerning this.

– What did Muslim nations do to deserve being exploited for their natural resources (e.g. oil) by the US for decades?

– What did Muslim nations do to deserve having the US install dictators in their countries who would "cooperate" with US ambitions – thereby denying those nations any chance at democracy. This contributed in great part to religious ideology flourishing and the current mess.

– What did Muslim nations do to have their countries bombed, invaded, subject to torture and destroyed by the US?

– What did Muslim nations do to be victimized by the corrupt few who act in a criminal manner thereby bringing the full onslaught of US weaponry against their lands, affecting millions of people.

– Did any Muslim nation wage war on the US? No.

– Did the US wage war on them? Yes.

– Was Iraq responsible for 911? No.

– How many Iraqis died, were displaced, maimed, orphaned? Countless.

– The 19 hijackers on 911 were Saudis. Was any action taken against Saudi Arabia? No. They invested substantially with the Bush family.

– Did the US fund, train and support terror groups for our own purposes? Yes. Especially in Afghanistan.

– How many tax payer dollars are spent on war? Trillions. On health care? Nevermind. Killing is okay, but treatment to live is "socialism".

Should Americans in turn be terrorized? NO! Should Americans understand the full extent of our country's involvement in causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims? YES.

Should we as Americans question our policies upon these nations and the injustices caused by them, that it actually weakens our country? Yes. If we value life and safety, we must value and respect all lives, not just within our borders.

Rose   May 4th, 2010 12:41 pm ET

Some Muslim populations don't have the luxury of worrying about immigration in their countries. Who is entering etc. They know full well who has arrived when US bombs, missiles, drones make their lethal appearance upon them. They don't need to look past their murdered children to know what unwanted and deadly intrusions by "outsiders" within their borders mean.

IKHAN   May 4th, 2010 1:01 pm ET

Hi Larry,
what a relief. great work done by our law enforcement in nabbing the criminal before he could flee.
No mercy for people who have no qualms about taking innocent lives.
you are right in pointing to the root causes giving birth to terrorism. The Bush-Cheney regime of follies & a complete lack of statesmanship in handling issues relating to Iraq & Afghanistan have put us in this situation where the specter of terrorism haunts us constantly. Adding to this complex issue is the festering Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Unless the Western nations in tandem with the countries in the Middle East & S.East Asia sit down purposefully to solve all outstanding issues in a peaceful & just manner right now, the world can forget eliminating violence.
The concept of using military might alone is medieval & it didn't work even then.

gerald Jolly   May 4th, 2010 1:14 pm ET

@ Rose.

Get your head out of the sand.

Muslims hate Americans and if they could not one of us would be alive today.

As for exploiting them for their oil.

You have convinced me that you're not from this planet.

Are you suggesting that our government goes to Arab countries and puts a gun to the OIL SHEIKS heads, and WARN THEM THAT IF THEY DONT SELL US THEIR OIL WE WILL KILL THEM ALL.

I think that the Saudi royal Family would disagree with you on that point, they are the richest royal family on the planet.

Bless you, and ALLAH promises to make you one of the twelve virgins that exist in his heaven to satisfy the lust of those wonderful MUSLIM MARTYRS that perforn JEHADS in his name.ALLAH, BLESSES YOU ROSE.

gerald Jolly   May 4th, 2010 1:19 pm ET

@ Rose.

Please explain to me why seven employees of our immigration department were dismissed for accepting BRIBE MONEY to allow unwanted immigrants to migrate to the U.S.

C'mon Rose, please explain.

Rose   May 4th, 2010 2:42 pm ET

@ Gerald Jolly

You stated that you lecture at universities on politics in Ontario in a past blog. How can you be so oblivious to 20th century history? 1.5 billion people do not hate us. How can you say that? Why don't you examine what role the US played in oil rich countries and how those leaders are support by us. It's not the selling of oil that is the issue, it is the oppression of people within the lands by dictators who have no intention of giving up their privileged positions. Look how quickly we swooped into Kuwait to save that undemocratic nation in 1991.

Do you want me to run down a list of countries and what our involvement was? Who gave Saddam billions of dollars and weapons? It was the US. Who removed the democratically elected Dr. Mosadegh in Iran and install the Shah? It was the US. Look at what's happened there now? There isn't enough room on this blog for the entire list.

Why don't you read up on Saudi investments with the Bush family. It's substantial. This was done to ensure they had priority with Washington. There are a number of American authors who have written substantial books about this. I'm surprised you're not aware of them. It's called political reciprocity. The Bin Laden family was a major investor with the Bush family. It's all documented. Don't take my word for it. Read: "The House of Bush, House of Saud" by Craig Unger for starters.

You reduce this to a joke about martyrs and virgins. You reduce disagreement to meaning I am automatically on the "other side". The "you're with us or against us" mentality. It's actually quite tragic. Perhaps I actually took time to read and examine facts instead of making prejudiced, uneducated generalizations about other people. Make your points based on documented/historical facts and not personal and childish attacks. Have a good day "professor".

Rose   May 4th, 2010 3:10 pm ET

@ Gerald Jolly

"Geopolitics" – the word for today. That determined to a great extent what role the US played in Muslim nations. Initially their strategic location with respect to the Soviet Union i.e. Iran was a buffer state with the USSR and of course for oil. Now, Afghanistan and its relevance to a pipeline from the Caspian Sea – Unocal (Enron) a major Bush contributor, along with Gov. GW Bush invited the Taliban to Texas in 1997 to secure that $2 billion deal. Now we're in Afghanistan waging war to ensure military bases are in place, permanently.

Support of oil rich dictators to ensure consistency in prices and smooth flow for US investors and markets. Any attempt by local populations to nationalize resources or promote democracy – crushed. Any dictator that rebels will meet Saddam's fate. But they serve US purposes while installed. What happens to the people of these nations – torture, lack of freedoms, prison, execution.

Rose   May 4th, 2010 4:18 pm ET

@ Ikhan

Thanks for your assessment on cause and effect. I'm glad someone out there has an informed perspective. Whenever we choose to support dictators we seek short term gain for long term pain.

When nations stamp out political opposition of any kind, it ultimately leads to disaster. No discourse, no dissenting voices permitted, no fair or open elections, no freedom of speech against the dictatorships, no freedom for writers, academics, no opposition parties. Continued oppression supported by the US. What happens after decades of this – militant forms of religion make their appearance and seek revenge. This is the one area that despots cannot fully control.

When people feel victimized and they have no other recourse, they take matters into their own hands via religion. All other options were removed for them. Any natural development in society squashed by foreign policy interests. And we see the violent effects of this in terrorism now in our country against innocent Americans. The fact that the CIA trained and funded Mujahidin in Afghanistan does not help as they are the root of the Taliban. Assessment of policies is desperately needed.

@ Rose.

You still have not been able to answer my question as to why, those seven employees were dismissed.

As to my lectures, I lecture on china and it's culture.

But I will tell you this.

What happened, just recently when a muslim community staged riots and anarchy motivated activities in the north east province in China adjacent to Tibet, that caused the death of seven people.

Half of the rioters were executed, and the other half will spend a great part of their life in prison.

Something that should be done in every country of the world, where these vermin exist and threaten world peace.

I once heard a very prominent statesman from Spain say, that the only good muslim is a dead muslim.

I completely agree with that statement.

As to questioning my credibility, I would be happy to compare my credentials against yours any day.

I would also be prepared to show you and prove to you how and why JEHADS are concocted.

Where there is an ISLAMIC CLERIC, there is a JIHADIST movement being concocted.

Seven years of research on that subject makes me an expert I would think.

Read my latest book "CHAMELEON" and get informed.

gerald Jolly   May 4th, 2010 5:20 pm ET

@ Rose.

To make it very clear.

I have many friends that are Pakistanis, but I assure you that none of them are Muslims.

Here is a list of countries that fund and finance Al-Queda and Jehads against Christians.

Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Benin, Somalia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Palestine, Afghanistan, Sudan, Malaysia, and several other smaller far east countries.

Did you know that the above countries fund Al-Queda to the tune of more than $10 million dollars a month, with Nigeria being that largest financial backer of Al-Queda.
Have you not ever wondered where does the finances come from to fund the terrorist activities that occur all over the world??

Who funded the group that slaughtered 100's in Bali, who funded the group thatr slaughtered the people in India, just several months ago, who funded the group that slaughtered hundred on the Spanish rail system a few years ago, who funded the group that slaughtered innocent folks in the subway in London, the list of the atrocities attached to muslim Jehadists is much too long to print on this blog.

Your flimsy atempt to protect these inhuman people is truly disgusting and shamefull.

They're even slaughtering each other in Iraq,

Please explain how you can lend any credence to justify the inhuman acts these perpatrators of injustice are responsible for.

Yes the U.S. has gone to war with some of these countries, but did so in most cases because they were asked too, by the people of those countries.

All except for Iraq, where a disgusting and lieying American administration lied about W.M.D.'s in order to inforce their will on a madman, and provide highly inflated wartime contract to a company that was once C.E.O.'d by the worst V.P. to ever be elected in our country.

Think about it ROSE, $10 million dollars a month to fund the slaughter of women, children and old folks.

@ Rose.

Rose let me suggested an activity for you to do, if you can.

Adjacent to where 9/11 occured there is a standing building that hasba good restaurant on the 11th floor that overlooks the sight of the disaster, at this restaurant their is an outdoor balcony, where many thousands of people have gone to observe the site, and offer their condolenses for the people that were wantingly slaughtered in the name of a JEHAD.

I guarantee you that if you go there look down at the disaster then close your eyes and meditate for just a little while you will hear the crying of nearly three thousand souls, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers all asking "WHY" I have been there and I have had the experience. TRUST ME IT REALLY DOES HAPPEN.

After you have done that, come back and tell me that I am a biggot and a racist, "IF YOU CAN"

@ Rose

You know your history and I have to agree with you all the way!
No twisting or turning the events will erase the fact, that the USA is the largest imperalistic country in the world today, better said since the 1920s! We march into countries for no good reasons and are in the first place as a country of evil. We constantly wage wars and kill millions of innocent human beings, install dictators in Asia and S. America.

@ Gerald Jolly

You are an intelligent person, but you are a fanatic and a hater!!
A few weeks ago you raved against italians, insulting everyone with that nationality.
Now you rave against moslems and you are not better than the most radical mullah who preaches hate against all infidel. Because people like you we have wars and hate in this world, you think you are better than the other person based on your nationality or religion.
Or twisted knowledge of history. When you start losing an argument then you always result to insults!

Let me tell you something, you don´t have the tiniest chance to go up against Rose and hope to win.
When she writes a blog it is intelligent and based on facts. Your blogs are full of BS, hate and misinformation.
I wonder what do you teach those poor lads and gals listenning to your lecture.

As far as writing a book! Hey, everybody does it, even the ones with an IQ of 55 or less.

Lawyer John Q. Kelly wrote on Nov. 2, 2009 the following to comment on your hateful blogs about Italy and the Perugia murder case:

"I don´t know who this person Gerald Jolly is, but he certainly has serious mental problems".

Please google it and see what is written about you, Professor!!

@ Ted

I appreciate your comments concerning the importance of writing with facts. History is a progression of cause and effect. The extremists that exist today were created after years of imperialist impositions. That is NOT to excuse their behavior, only to identify that US actions will result in disaster. I am fully aware of what actions extremists have taken in the world. I am appalled by them. I also lost a relative in 911 in New York. A brilliant young woman with her future ahead of her.

I speak up against the heavy handed brutality inflicted upon innocent civilians – who live through their own version of 911 "daily" in war. I view them as human beings first, not as a people who subscribe to a certain religion. I see children, women, men, elderly (same as Americans).

Re: the rantings and ravings against Muslims is racist in nature, as all 1.5 billion people cannot possibly subscribe to the exact same way of thinking. That's puerile. It's equivalent to the same mentality as extremist ideology that paints all Americans with the same negative brush. The we-all-hate-them-cause-they-all-hate-us BS.

It's easy to look at end results and say "look what the extremists are doing". A wiser approach would be to acknowledge responsibility for our orchestration and creation of this mess, our foreign policy which we greatly benefitted from at Muslims' (and others) expense. An awareness based on balanced facts. And finally not to continue to support the same policies the oppress others and create monsters.

@ Gerald Jolly

You state: "As to questioning my credibility, I would be happy to compare my credentials against yours any day."

I've read the manner in which you write. That's enough proof of your "credentials". I will relieve you of any further embarrassment. Whatever C.V. accomplishments you possess is not apparent on these blogs – so does it matter or do we care at this point?

I (along with others) try to write in terms of facts, as opposed to opinions verging on written caricatures of others. "Informed" discussion, debate or opposition is welcome. I don't pull out my resume or degrees to substantiate myself.

You wrote: "What happened, just recently when a muslim community staged riots and anarchy motivated activities in the north east province in China adjacent to Tibet, that caused the death of seven people. As a specialist in Chinese politics I am sure you are fully aware that the US State Department in March issued a blistering report detailing serial human rights abuses by the Chinese government against its ethnic Muslim Uighur population.

I am sure you are also aware of what Amenesty International reported: Many Uighurs choose to flee to neighbouring countries. The Chinese government pressures those countries to forcibly return the asylum-seekers. Back in China, they face serious human rights violations, including torture, unfair trials, and even execution.

You grossly misrepresented facts by stating the Muslim Uighurs are committing "ANARCHY" when our own State Department claimed that they are subject to SEVERE ABUSE by the Chinese – including the executions. And you're teaching students?!
