Idol: Why the Judges Saved Michael Lynche

Posted: 05:12 PM ET

On Wednesday night's American Idol, the judges used their once-per-season wild card to save contestant Michael Lynche from going home.

An eyewitness says Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell "kept whispering" throughout commercial breaks while deciding if they should keep Lynche, 26, on the show.

The audience clearly wanted the Queens, New York personal trainer (who welcomed his first daughter, Laila, during Hollywood Week) to stick around. They were "chanting his name" after he performed "This Woman's Work."
While on stage, "Kara was clearly fighting for him," the insider says. "She was gripping Simon's arm and waving her hands in the air, gesturing at Mike. Randy [Jackson] also got up and went to talk to them, while Ellen [DeGeneres] leaned in. Kara was gripping Randy's arms."

After Cowell announced they'd use their wild card, "the atmosphere was crazy, with all the judges hugging and Mike blowing kisses to the crowd," the witness tells Us. "Crystal [Bowersox] leaped up and was the first to give Mike a huge hug."

"Kara ran on stage and hugged Mike. He lifted her into the air, her feet dangling. Simon went up and patted him on the back, although Mike hugged him," the insider adds.

Mike should stay in! He is the best they have besides Crystal Bowersox and the judges were right in their wild card–I hope he wins but think Crystal should be first!! Course I am from Ohio and routing for her–Good luck to them both!

You can go in any Baptist church and find someone that sings just as good or even better than Big Mike. This guy WAY over rated. He's cocky and over confident because he knows he's got the judges in the palm of his hands. Personally, I'm not impressed.

True Mike probably is cocky and over confident but Tim Urban sucks up all the other votes from the other contestants. Besides the brotha can blow and Susan is dead on I think Crystal Bowersox will be your next American Idol.

American Idol has lost it's way as a show, and so have the fans. Kara likes to throw out this phrase, "you've lost your way, I don't know who you are as an artist". Well, this is the problem with American Idol. Fans vote for guys they "like" as the others have stated aka Tim Urban. Andrew can't sing and Lee has the confidence of a house cat going outside to play. The run for American Idol is over, because this show has become a popularity contest rather than a singing contest.

They saved Mike because he has the sob story of having his daughter during auditions and missed out on the birth. That and the fact there are no talented singers other than Crystal and Lee, whose still learning.

The save is used for DRAMA only. To stimulate the audience. We all know MIke is not going to win. When I saw Mike and that nerd Andrew I knew they'd use the save on MIKE cause there is no one worthwhile saving.

This article title says WHY they saved Mike. It doesnt tell you WHY. I just did.

Finally the truth about IDOL's fixing the vote.

I would like the show producers to try and deny that fact.

When they want it.

Pretty G.D. SAD

I don't think anything was a fix. Mike's performance before the last vote was not his best so he probably lost some votes. Casey is also great. I wouldn't want to call a winner at this point.

Mike May your neighbors respect you, troubles neglect you, the angles protect you and heaven accept you.

Mike is the best of the pick true he sings like a baptist group, but he is the best they got in the show.

as for cocky this "is" show business not a morturary is it not. The judges are constentley complaning that the presention does not move them and that others using up the stage an hiding bhind a guitar. So goke show off yourself so you can get that contract.
Kara just may put you on her label .
