Just one sentence clearly defines Madame Michelle Obama.

Dodie   February 10th, 2010 12:28 pm ET

First Lady Michele Obama is intelligent, gracious, and as Gerald Jolly stated… She is a classy lady!!

I am very delighted to have her as our First Lady!

winnie   February 10th, 2010 12:51 pm ET

Our First Lady is absolutely amazing. She is articulate, intellegent, beautiful inside and out. I am so proud of her and her efforts to tackle this very serious problem of childhood obesity. I wish her much success.

Raffaele Zuccaro   February 10th, 2010 4:34 pm ET

The first Lady picked out a great cause to work on–Class Act- On the othe5 hand Larry King – DEAD, is a soft Baller!! What scares me moat, is, that he looks loke he dyed his"hair- WIG" reddish- and when he does something like this, he may be looking for a NEW WIFE, No. 9- What a Goof-Ball he is!!!!

Luis B Rosario   February 10th, 2010 4:40 pm ET

She was exceptional and she established a cordial relationship with
Larry King. She was given the chance to go after Sarah Palin but
she used perfect diplomacy to avoid any negative comments, other
than to say that she "doesn't the lady that much." Hmm That one
was a strong jab in the belly(stomach). I like the First Lady now.

Navajo Joe   February 10th, 2010 5:01 pm ET

As always, no gaffs, just gifts...she is a beauty...Mr. Prez. you know your luck...America...we're just learning that...on a sad note and not to get off point...the General who lead to the defeat of the occupation by the USSR in Afghanistan..Charlie Wilson passed away here in Texas at the age of passing has left a hole in the fabric of our courage....Charlie was a former U.S. Congressman, and Texas State Senator. Much of this world will miss you.....

Just an thought to Insurance, Not sure why the basic medical expenses are more. Basic medication should be affordable and no reason it being expensive, Expensive surgery/operations can be made affordable by donating the expensive medical instruments and drugs which any rich or profitable insurance companies or govt would be happy sharing it.

Basic reason any one would save money is to meet his medical expenses in case of emergency, if that would be shared by group (Insurance). I would live happy every moment. I am happy paying insurance every month as it would help someone who is in need.

Medication should be one of the human necessity as rights to be available to everyone.

Jessie from Auckland, NZ   February 10th, 2010 10:20 pm ET

She's so down-to-earth. All the best to her.

Chickie   February 10th, 2010 11:08 pm ET

I just don't get it. Ms. Obama is speaking out about childhood obesity, but she needs to resolve her own weight issue. The woman's tail is huge!

Gerry In Toronto   February 11th, 2010 12:10 am ET

America is very fortunate to have such a classy, intelligent, down to earth lady in the Whitehouse. Mrs. Obama is in a class of her own.

There are approximately 900 diseases which occur to anyone that is missing essential nutrients in their diet. American corporations have long ago removed many essential nutrients from the grown directly by its massive and rapid use of American corporate farming practices.

No amount of 'correct diet' is going to help you 'one single bit' if the food you are eating doesn't have the essential nutrients everyone needs.

The FDA is fully aware of this and began programs to supplement livestock feed with essential nutrients so that COWs and other livestock thrive and live much longer, disease free than without those supplements. How about doing that for the American Taxpayers?

Why isn't this encouraged and federally provided for to American Citizens? The American Medical Association and Western Medical Practitioners, MD's and their masters in Big Pharma derive much of their income from treating diseases resulting from a chronic lack of essential nutrients in their body's.

Mike   February 14th, 2010 3:34 am ET

Republicans want a million troops sent to Afganistan, iraq. They want fresh invasions of Syria, Iran, North Korea, Yemen, and possibly a world war with Russia so as to show American might, etc- these are money "well-spent" but healthcare for all Americans, job creation stimulus, revamping the economy, etc amounts to wasteful spending that drives up the deficit? Who is fooling whom? And if Americans "sent" the message from Massachussets Senate election then too bad!!

Jamie   February 14th, 2010 7:03 am ET

I wish we had something in place 16 years ago when my daughter entered school. The high calorie foods that were given to her and the marketing that fast food restaurants were allowed to sell to the public was inaccurate. Had the FDA mandated or retricted how healthy foods were me and my child would probably be better educated. My daughter is 21 years old and obese. She is hooked on fast food and is trying so hard to lose the weight and change her habits but it is difficult. I too have had to educate myself at the age of 47. I think what Michelle Obama and the administration is doing is great. We cannot think that the all american hot dog and macaroni and cheese is healthy for our children or ourselves. Good luck to her and I will do what I can to support her. Thank you Larry for having her on your show. She is "the classiest lady I have ever seen", other than Oprah Winfrey! They both do nothing but good things for our communities and are just real women! Aloha!

Randy Lombard   February 14th, 2010 7:23 am ET

What nobody seems to recognize, is that children in elementary school ARE NOT EATING THEIR LUNCHES. I am a school janitor, and hold, perhaps, the only position that actually SEES what is being eaten. And while kids overall are not being nourished on the healthiest foods available, with the access to fast food and junk food, it cannot be said that school lunches are responsible for this problem. They may, in some small capacity, contribute to an overall unmanaged diet, but certainly are not mostly responsible for a child's obesity, for this one reason....
50 – 70% of food served in elementary schools is being thrown away! The children, for the most part don't want to eat ANYTHING. Healthy or unhealthy. With no parent around to tell them to finish their plate, they don't care to. Improving the nutrition at lunchtime will not improve the quality of the children's appetite. I kid you not, the 80 gallon barrels used to hold the food thrown out is FULL at the end of lunch time. Most food is thrown out without even being bitten. Adding bean sprouts and grains to the menu will NOT IMPROVE this problem. You have to find a way to get the children to put the food in their mouths and swallow, if you intend to improve their nutritional health at school. And parents, evidently, have NO IDEA that their kids are not eating. Perhaps because they haven't asked? It wouldn't hurt to ask your children if they are consuming their food at school. Really, just a horrific waste of food, considering all the homeless persons and malnurished children across the globe, and yet our kids in the United States are allowed to waste so much.

kathleen, 30   February 14th, 2010 6:45 pm ET

If she REALLY wants to fight the childhood weight issues, then she should have someway to keep the schools thoughout the USA from having the coke&pepsi&7up soda machines out of the kids lunchrooms and from outside the schools also.So that way the only way the kid can get any soda is from home then, and the same for the candy machines.Since some people just give their kids$ to get their lunch at the school.

Luis B Rosario   February 14th, 2010 11:00 pm ET

@Randy Lombard
But you are not going to be able to force kids to eat bean sprouts after
they are more than 6 years old. You have to teach them to eat properly
from 1 to 6 years old. In my opinion. My aunt is baby-sitting two kids from
India since they were two years old. They learned to eat our typical food
(rice & beans, meat cooked differently, vegetables and fruit ). The kids
love the food and eat all day and they are very happy. When they go home they eat their own typical food. It appears that there is no conflict
and no protest from the children or the parents. They are learning
Spanish. It is amazing what positive reinforcement can achieve. Teach
your kids early to eat any nutritional food available. So people may say
rice and beans is for Hispanics and the Chiniese. Bean are very good
in protein and fiber. Avocado is a great fruit and source of fiber, natural
oil for skin, hair and eyesight. Vine vegetebles like "yam" a tropical
vine with edible roots like potatos but it tastes better, malanga, yautia,
sweet potato-they all contained high levels of fiber and other nutritional
ingredients and are easy to cook (just boil for about 30 minutes)
and you eat them as dinner with any kind of meat or meat sauce,
( I prefer cod fish sauce); add corn, peas or carrots and you have
a great meal. Go to the Spanish bodega(grocery)or to the supermarket
where they sell spanish food and vegetables. These products
grow anywhere in the Caribbean, South America, Spain, Portugal
and they adapt to your backyard-Yam can withstand freezing weather
(lay dormant), just cut the top of the vegetable after harvest and replant
again on shallow top soil (about two to 3 inches deep) and cover.
Water often for the first two weeks. After that it doesn't need any water
unless it rains. Plant as close as possible to a tree( where the vine
can crawl)
Some nurtritionists will advise you to eat rice once a week because
it is high on carbohydrates and calories. My mother ate rice every
(sometimes twice a day). She was 97 years old and healthy and
strong a like a mule when she succumbed to Alzheimers and so
was her father who died when he was 99 years old and so was
my aunt 92 years old when she died of pneumonia because the
doctor thought that she had the flu but actually she had water in her
longs. They all ate pork, cattle meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit
and rice and beans. They grew up drinking water that sometimes
contained tape worm and trichinosis(a larvae that attaches to
your intestinal wall and steals your blood) from drinking
contaminated water from wells open wells when it rained hard.
But they survived until treated pipe waterr was iinstalled.
There was hardly any obesity in Puerto Rico those days until
fast food restaurants arrived from the good old USA run by
unscrupulous entrepeneurs who make multimillion dollars
selling junk food.
I tell you all these testimonials not because I like to read to
myself but because I believe that it may help.
P.S. My parents, my grandparents and all my family all love
sweets including mostly homemade desert but only 6 in a
an extended family of hundreds including great-great grandchildren
had or have diabetis. Most of them did not eat junk food from
fast food restaraunts.
It costs more to eat a meal at a fast food restaurant than to
eat at home, or to go to a buffet like Golden Corral, Chinese
food, or Bonanza. Even some hotels have bufffet under $10

Michelle Obama, please do not turn your back on the hundreds if not THOUSANDS of children that were raped and sexually molested by Christian Clergy over the past decade.

The previous administration instructed the US Justice Dept. to block all judicial attempts by the attorneys for these child victims from being able to obtain their monetary judicially ordered civil awards from the Vatican itself.

First Lady Michelle Obama, I implore you to help right this outrageous travesty of justice by the Bush-Cheney-Rice administration and their specific interference with US judicial liability's for these children.

These children many of whom have been raped repeatedly by Christian Clergymen deserve full and equatable justice. A recent UK report clearly outlines the Vatican's role in covering up these horrific crimes against children directly in their care and these children should be legally allowed by the US Justice Dept. to seek their US Court mandated monetary fines and settlements also from the Vatican itself.

In the past, the Vatican has instructed the many parishes directly involved to claim bankruptcy to nullify the US Court mandated monetary fines and settlements to each of these hundreds if not thousands of rape victims.

The current Pope has called an emergency meeting with the Irish Archbishops and Bishops in the current wake of reports and UK study's which allege the Vatican itself was involved in the cover-ups, and negligence in immediately removing Clergy, Bishops and Archbishops that were accused of raping and sexually molesting children in their care.

It appears the Vatican is once again attempting to minimize judicial responsibility and blow-back upon the Pope and the Vatican bank itself in regards to many civil monetary legal fines given out to the many victims. In the past it appeared the Vatican instructed those parishes and clergy to declare Bankruptcy to minimize their financial exposure to any judicial monetary order against them.

Now there are Four Catholic archbishops of Dublin each accused of covering-up clerical child abuse in a damning report into how these horrific crimes were handled by the Dublin diocese.

This is what the victims in America and the UK have stated from the beginning, namely that the leaders of the Catholic Church had conspired to cover up multiple cases of rape and sexual abuse by its clerics. One such Bishop here in Portland, Oregon was suddenly summoned out of the country to take the current Pope's previous position at the Vatican!

Former President Bush jr., prevented the US Justice Dept. from allowing the hundreds of rape victims from filing their civil liability claims directly against the Vatican itself. Perhaps now President Obama will allow these rape victims to have due justice applied to all.

Luis B Rosario   February 15th, 2010 1:52 am ET

@A. Smith, Oregon
Without giving the Bush administration any credit or take away any,
I believe that the Bush administration was attempting to prevent
frivolous law-suits in which the plaintiff seeks exorbitant amounts
of money as compesation. You may ask what is frivolous and should
have the answer from your concience. It is true that victims of
certain crimes deserve more than others but what is more. The entire
church including the vatican (in your protest against Catholicism) cannot
be asked to go bankrupt to satisfy a claim(s). Certain plaintiffs were
asking for 50 million dollars as compesation. Is this pay back for
restitution or revenge. If you pay one plaintiff $50 million what is left
for the hundreds or thousands that you say were sexually assaulted?
One plaintiff won't care about waht happens to the others except
what happens to him/her? This is what the Bush administration was
trying to prevent a frivolous lawsuit in which the plaintiff seeks to
become rich not to demand jail for the accused if convicted and if
the defendant is convicted then the victim becomes the plaintiff
seeking to closed down the church. Why would the entire church
be liable to the extent of going bankrupt in lieu of the crime
committed by individual defendants when the crime was not
ordered by the administration of the church and the crime was
condoned by the church once it came to the attentin of the
high church administration.
Some trouble makers (you have them everywhere even during
the investigation, and adjudication of a crime) will declare that
the Vatican took active action to hide rape crimes. That is
completely not true and there is no evidence to support that claim.
To go back to frivolous lawsuits. In my state a woman sued
for wrongful death in a vehicle accident with fault from the driver
defendant. She was awarded 300 million dollars. for the wrongful
death of her relative. Where do you get $300 millions from any
suit even if you Bill Gates? What is the meaning of justice and
retribution in this case. No person is worth $300 million. It kis
completely ridiculous to make such a request by a sane lawful
and it is more insane for a jury to approve this award. It leaves
the door open(precedence) for other litigants to ask for the same
award in future cases. A lawsuit should not be awarded more
the monetary expectations in the lifetime of a human being.
This should mean that a person should get no more than
$100,000 (one hundred thousand ) per year in litigtation of
extreme cases such as rape. So if your life expectancy is
30 yeas after the accident happened the plaintiff may be
awarded $3 million(not $50 million-not a hundred million dollars).
This is what is considered frivolous lawsuits and they should be
outlawed. There is no money award that can heal the pain and
suffering of a crime victim. By the same token if there is no
enough that will heal it your pain why would any court award
ridiculous and preposterous claims that other than the purpose
of the award is to make the person rich but it has nothing to with
the healing process because the victim will never heal completely.
Tons of money will not heal. Destroying a whole institution like
the church when the whole church was involved in conspiracy
to commit a heinous crime even if the church attempted to
insulate itself from a lawsuit it is not enough to award frivolous
amount of money as compesation.

When I went to school , all the way to high school, we used to have
free lunch. The lunch included all kinds of nutritional food. The menu
was diffrerent everyday(alternating). Lunch was the same for
everybody and you were not allowed to dump it in the garbage. You
could trade certain food with your fellow student( like I did not like
peanut butter-I could trade it for sweetened prunes). Must students
that were poor enjoyed a healthy lunch in school thanks to a Govt.
budget that protected the students.

I'm listening to Sean Penn on Larry King thinking is there anyone less qualified to make an assessment on Haiti? I've already sent money, lots of money, we all sent money. Where did it go? I'm not sending another penny until I see a plan. I want to know what is happening with all the donations? People ARE donating!!

JOSE G   February 15th, 2010 10:26 pm ET

HI Larry, just to let you know Dominican Republic had been taken millions of haitians over the years even before the Earthquake as a refugees, we are not in that great of economical situation to help then more, we do the best that we can to help Haiti with this disaster.
The big help have to come from the great USA NATION.

I like Obama but I think she picked a poor topic. I think it is insecure people that pick on the fat kid. I think she picked the topic because she thinks it will be easy. I think it is really just picking on the fat kids. They probably will be worse for the wear.

Tiffany   February 17th, 2010 8:22 pm ET

The Junior League has program that we've been running from years called, "Kids in the Kitchen" that educates children about good nutrition. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, Ms. Obama should look to programs that are working and bring them to a larger platform to be implemented.
