LKL Web Exclusive: Stacey Honowitz on talking about sexual abuse

Posted: 12:39 PM ET

NOTE: This is a LKL web exclusive by Stacey Honowitz, FL State Prosecutor and frequent LKL guest.  Honowitz is also the author of "My Privates are Private."

In today's society, "My Privates are Private" should be a staple in every household with children. This book was written to put both parents and children at ease when discussing this difficult and delicate subject matter.

The reality is this; sexual abuse is widespread in our culture and the idea of having a discussion about it can be uncomfortable and awkward. Sexual abuse has no boundaries, and because the crime is so secretive, we have come to learn that it touches every race, socio-economic and religious background, never really steering clear of anyone.

These are the reasons that I wrote the book; because after years of prosecuting these cases there was one theme that resonated throughout most of the cases I filed and ultimately went to trial on. Kids were afraid to speak up, to tell someone what was going on, and the idea of reporting someone made them feel bad.

Betsy Boodle puts all of those thoughts to rest. This little girl shares the importance of reporting, speaking your mind and not feeling guilty for making the report. The book is in a playful, limerick format which is not intimidating, which makes the message much easier to remember. Betsy says "even though I am young and short, I won't be afraid to go to court" and parents should not be afraid to discuss a subject that could change their lives.

As much as we all appreciate the latest and greatest high technology, imagine there is a guy in Redbourn England (for real) illegally using satellites to stalk, harass and terrorize my family and others. He uses the same concept as television, the upload/download thing but instead of computer to computer, he does computer to human. You bet it is painful! Pornography, hate crimes against blacks and other people of color, etc. Imagine those images flashing before your eyes! Think first before one wishes for even more high tech. The fact that what he is engaging in international terrorism is beyond frightening and can be performed by anyone with a high powered computer and some latest and greatest tech tools. So before Steve Jobs claims he has the greatest new gadget, think Dennis Poole of Redbourn England, he has come up with one even greater. I cringe at the day this will be mainstream techonology. Yes, the FBI and other intelligent agencies are hot on his trail......

After much legal advise on how to minimize massive lawsuits against the Christian Churches, the Pope okay'd the use of comics to instruct children what is permissible and what is not in regards to physical and sexual abuse.

As some readers recall, many Christian organizations and Churches filed for bankruptcy protection to purposefully minimize the monetary awards to hundreds if not thousands of children that were raped and sexually abused by Christian Priests during the past several decades.

It appears that immediately after high ranking Vatican officials met with then Secretary Rice, who then met with then president Bush jr., that then US Justice Dept. blocked multiple civil lawsuits seeking to include claim damages from the Vatican.

There appears to be clear evidence that the Vatican ordered several of its Christian Priests that had multiple complaints of rape and sexual abuse upon parish children MOVED to other parishes where they continued to rape and sexually abuse new parish children.

It appears the US Justice Dept. purposefully refused to allow American attorneys to include the Vatican in their civil suits for damages.

This series of comic books is an attempt by the Christian Leaders and the US Justice to re-spin it's present image and past history in their respective roles of allowing serial predators on America's children and the horrific legacy of Christianity on sex abuse upon children in their care.

Larry King, ask Stacey Honowitz, FL State Prosecutor:

1) IF the Vatican ordered their Priests who were suspected of raping and sexually abusing parish children to move to another parish in order to avoid incarceration, does that implicate the Vatican as conspiring to cover-up multiple felony sexual assaults?

2) Under the Bush jr. administration, attorneys were blocked from suing the Vatican for recovery of their civil suit monetary awards. Should those children refile under the Obama administration? Should their attorneys go directly to the World or European Court system to file their monetary award claim against the Vatican?

@ A. Smith

Yes, they should file at the European Supreme Court in Luxemburg.
