My problem with this is why $ 10.00? What if somebody don't have $10.00 and they can only donate $5.00 or $2.00 but, they feel they need to do something. what happen to give what you can. I mean please enough already. I am so sorry this has happen to these people. I really truely am. why do we always wait for something to happen and then the millions of dollars come out of the woods. why wasn't it there all a long. Katrina, 911, ? our troops coming back for standing up for us. With no medical care, homes, jobs, where are the millions to pay them back for all they do. I seen a posting the other day that said, " If you don't stand behind our troops than get in front of them."

Jim Woodworth   January 15th, 2010 2:06 pm ET

Just a comment. Surprised yet glad to see Venezuala and Cuba get involved with Haiti. But were is any support from any Middle Eastern Country? And they wonder why?

Ivonne   January 15th, 2010 2:07 pm ET

Someone needs to look into the children who have lost their parents and are alone in Haiti, they won't survive if left alone. There are people who'd be willing to adopt Haitain children if it were made possible. I'd be one of them.

Dodie   January 15th, 2010 2:18 pm ET

It is nice to see both former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have accepted President Obama's request to head private fundraising to bring further aid to the Haitian people.

luckybee   January 15th, 2010 2:46 pm ET

Nothing will help the Haïtians, as long as they stay Katholiek; God have left the Katholiek church, because they don't obey the 10 Commandments.Return to the will of God, and everything will be allright, without any help from else where.Just as where the islam ruled, every Katholiek country , shared the same missery as the moslim country's.

A. Smith, Oregon   January 15th, 2010 3:34 pm ET

@ vallary, there is also a $5.00 text debit line also for Haitian relief. As to smaller donations, that is likely possible if you go directly to the Red Cross website. Text debit's are handled thru a 3rd. party, that is likely figured into the amounts which covers the equipment handling the texting and debts.

I wish Obama had tapped former President Carter instead of Bush jr., Carter has a long history on helping rebuild people's lives whereas Bush jr. has a long history in destroying peoples lives.

IKHAN   January 15th, 2010 3:44 pm ET

Enlisting President Carter was indeed the right thing to do & I wonder why wasn't he approached? He has more credibility also as a sincere & honest leader.

The outpouring of help from around the world & especially Americans is heart warming in the current climate. There is still hope for humanity.
Good to see the first lady coming out with this message.

Larry & CNN are doing a fine job on this.

Dodie   January 15th, 2010 4:08 pm ET

@ IKHAN Possibly Carter has medical problems. He is up there in years.
Yes, the world seems to be uniting in the quest for help. Sometimes in the midst of a tragedy, there is a silver lining!

A. Smith, Oregon   January 15th, 2010 4:42 pm ET

I hope this White House spotlight on Haiti's people encourages a GREAT DEAL of oversight on just where hundreds of millions of economic aid dollars ($208 Million in 2007 Alone) went in Haiti.

Its clear that economic aid didn't reach the Haitian People, nor did any of it go to stockpiling emergency medical supply's and medicine! Who did the former Republican administration with Bush-Cheney give that money to?

Where is the accountability by the Obama administration on what happened to over $200 Million dollars that was supposedly given to Haiti for economic aid barely 3 years ago?

Roy from New Orleans   January 15th, 2010 5:04 pm ET

Why doesn't Dr. Gupta put down the microphone and pick up a stethoscope? Mr. Cooper is quite capable as are others to report the events of the day in Haiti.

Hippocratic what?

Too blessed   January 15th, 2010 5:05 pm ET

@luckybee:Well for one you totally misspelled Catholic and for two what does being any denomination have to do with this tragedy hitting this nation??These people have suffered tremendously and have lost what little they did have and could use your prayers and support instead of bashing them!

Joe   January 15th, 2010 5:10 pm ET

Halliburton needed the money or nothing would get done there.

Donna L. Oglesby   January 15th, 2010 5:41 pm ET

I Feel former President carter would of been the better choice over Bush jr. He has a Long history of working with habitat for humanity and more credibility as well. Maybe Obama better start looking at the ones with more credibilty.....also like A. Smith from Oregon mentioned, where did all that go?? whose pockets did all that go into?

victor bloom   January 15th, 2010 5:47 pm ET

Hi Larry,

Please acknowlege this message from a true blue American who served his country once and is willing to serve again when and wherever needed.

My father, a life-long hard-line Democrat is turning over in his grave. He, and I cannot believe what Democrats are doing to this country.

America is moving rapidly towards a socialist state thanks to the majority of extreme left Democrats Who want to nationalize big business, and destroy America and Capitalism in the process.

I ask Massachusetts voters to take the lead in stopping this political cancer when voting on Tuesday......Save America, vote for Scott Brown
American, Veteran, Independent, over Marthy Coakley, another die-hard Democrat Socialist who will continue the downward spiral into Socialism.

Vote Tuesday. Send the message to Washington. Socialists.....Your days are up!

Thank you Larry, You are a true Media Icon looked up to by many patriotic Americans because you put the current issues, and responsible individuals, right up front to testify in everyones livingroom. So that viewers are then able to make decisions they may not have been able to make without your presentation.

God Bless America, (Democrats, don't try to take this blessing away from me!)

Hugh Carpenter ~ Tracy, California   January 15th, 2010 5:52 pm ET

It's nice to read comments from all sides here, rather than the sick profanity and racist comments on youtube - it's appalling! Will youtube EVER start removing those who are making absolutely disgusting comments which are even viewed by children! CNN should do a piece addressing the TOTAL lack of by inforcement that youtube & it's executives allow to perpetuate without any regard to human decency. The only thing they seem willing to censor is copyright infringements. Asolutely appalling website when it comes to censoring profanity and hate! Thank you CNN, for your moderators!

Even if many people around the world hate Americans, we should never stop helping those who are suffering. That is what makes our country great!

Eda   January 15th, 2010 6:47 pm ET

Dear Mr. Clinton,
You have the power and the resources to help and stand out in this Haitian Tragedy. We all know and understand that Haiti is not a US territory, but they are in so much need right now. You have an amazing force task that is trained in the ICS and can be so useful now. I'm talking about FEMA. Some of this people are sitting at ... See Moretheir houses as closed as in Puerto Rico and is just a waste of resources. I hope you can convince Mr. Obama to re-visit his thoughts about using this amazing FEMA teams. News are saying that a team of 22 people were deployed to the scene, that is not enough. Please lets help this people that are in so much need,is not all about the money, is also about humanitarian help. Thank you for your constant support and your amazing humanitarian efforts

Dodie   January 15th, 2010 6:49 pm ET

@ Hugh Carpenter

Thanks Hugh for your kind words.
Nice to see you back in CNN again

Chris Sanders   January 15th, 2010 8:46 pm ET

Dear Larry
Tonight on your show can u ask Anderson Cooper, about the other side of Haiti. that is affected by the quake, can AC report on that have him jump on a chopper and fly over to see the destruction that happend on the otherside

Wilgëens Rosenberg   January 15th, 2010 8:51 pm ET

There are several other donation foundations that will gladly accept whatever amount you can give. There are several of them listed on CNN.

Wilgëens Rosenberg   January 15th, 2010 8:54 pm ET

Larry, the Haitian people need the only medicine that will calm them and give the great solace in this moment that neither the late arriving food and aid nor President Preval whom had offer the people no form of comfort as most competent or perhaps incompetent president should, would and could offer. Why not provide the Haitian people symbolically with something that will give sense comfort to the situation? They need to see and will listen to only two people now. If you want to see Haitian start picking themselves up and reunite, put Wyclef & Jean-Bertrand Aristide on the same stage in Haiti right now this instant. Although ironically, Wyclef himself is not too fond of Aristide.

Hugh Carpenter ~ Tracy, California   January 15th, 2010 9:06 pm ET

@ Dodie: Hello! I'll poke in from time to time.

I think our country is getting uglier; with the current divisions of politics and race, peace appears what it always has been - just a dream.

Amir   January 15th, 2010 10:01 pm ET

Secretary of Defense Gates is not allowing the US military Airborne unites to drop in the soccer fields and secure the site, so we can drop food, water and medical supplies,is causing thousends of people die every night.

Also not having set up a command and control at the airport is causing more delayes for help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hellllll is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is looking just like katrina 50 times worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amir   January 15th, 2010 10:04 pm ET

How is it that reports are able to get through to the people but not the food, water, medical and military!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erin   January 15th, 2010 10:17 pm ET

Larry/Anderson: Why do we wonder why these people are dying of simple injuries and/or illnesses?. How could we think it could possibly be otherwise? The healthcare infrastructure in this country was already incredibly weak. These people were dying of simple injuries and/or simple illness prior to this heartbreaking disaster. We should not be surprised. And we should no longer deny what is now gruesomely apparent.

Our country is coming together as a race and its about time thank you Michell for letting America borrow your husband hes a cool cat the words from a republican.

Lawrence Ice   January 16th, 2010 12:33 am ET

I am watching CNN news of Haitian. I see a major problem. Why
the military is not opening the road ways from the air port to the
city? Why there is NO Helli Drop off food and water to all area' s
that are in the Disaster Zone? This is a Critical time. We as humans
must take care of our fellow parton's. No Matter of race, creed, origin.
If man want to live, we must help each other no matter of government
problems. Step aside all political problems and get it done.

A. Smith, Oregon write :" I wish Obama had tapped former President Carter instead of Bush jr., Carter has a long history on helping rebuild people's lives whereas Bush jr. has a long history in destroying peoples lives.

Huuuuuh? Carter was a coward, he has left his own people to perish in Teheran,by the Mullah, in stead of rescuing them.after one try he stopped doeing that, dead GI is bad for his immage.Instead he tried to make friends with the moslims , en that is according to the qoran en a Hadith not possible.

Remeber the Babilonian captivity; because the Jews dont respect the 10 Commandments anymore, God turn them his back. The jews allowed the idoles (Baal and Astarte) to be worshipped in Gods tempel.Just as the Katholiek church worshipped the saints and Maria in theyr church. And that is forbidden by God him zelf.!( read the 10 Commandments) and that is not the only reason why God is ungry withe the catholikchurch. Also the Jews must be pittied when they went to the baylonian Captivity. Only God can help them and nobody else.

Maybe God have otherplans with the Haïtians? He punnished for all Moslims and Katholiek countries, in this world.May be he don't agree with theyr borderles family planning, to make as much children as possible in this world? So that others have no place to live in this world anymore?

Never forget who has founded the USA; it was not de pope from Rome, but the Pilgrimsfathers, from the UK who has fled the UK to Holland, to learn in Holland how to build a counry that is just for everybody, exactly like God want it.

The USA is bigger than any other counrtry in the world, dear Donald L Allen;God is with them; till now.But remember what de demokrats (Katholieks)said during the ellection? The change, Yes we can! slogans?I don't think God will like it.
Read the 10 Commandment. That the Catholiek Church has put aside.

A. Smith, Oregon   January 17th, 2010 5:34 pm ET

@ luckybee, after the initial failure of the Delta forces to rescue the hostages at the Iranian embassy, the hostages were scattered and moved to several different locations which made their multiple rescue impossible.

After former President Carters term in office, he has gone on to actively work in many humanitarian efforts around the world and here in America. Hence, my comment that former President Carter would have been a much better choice than Bush jr. to head the chair on Haitian relief.

With Bush-Cheney in office, they supposedly gave $208 Million taxpayer dollars to Haiti for economic help. Its apparent NONE of those hundreds of Millions of American taxpayer dollars from Bush jr. went to any of the critical essential emergency supplies which directly is now making the Haitian crisis far graver than it would have been.

Nadene Brunk   January 17th, 2010 10:26 pm ET

Do not forget about Midwives for Haiti, a non-profit organization that has been in Haiti for 3 years and will be there when everyone else forgets about Haiti.

luckybee   January 18th, 2010 2:02 am ET

dear Mr A. Smith, Oregon, because the hostage are scattered , you can just forget them? What did Carter acheef with his humanitarian efforts?Did he freed the hostages? I thought it was Reagan who succeed to freed the prisoners, despite de scattering oft hem?He succeed to make the Ayatollah's feels infincible because of his cowardnes, that's the trueth mr A. Smith.Just like Chamberlain and Daladier make Hitler feel big, and the führer of the world. He make de islam think they are the master of the world.

luckybee   January 18th, 2010 2:04 am ET

He causes the rebirth of the political Islam.

My question is: why Donna Oglesby when give money (political contribution), she writes that she is retired while she is not. She works for a Title company in Yuma, AZ and in 2009, she was the President of the Hospice of Yuma's (HOY) Board of Directors. She must have a reason. For Ms. Oglesby, I filed a Federal Civil Civil Rights lawsuit in the San Diego's U.S. District Court. We will see if all lies written by two of three HOY employees can be proven before a a federal judge and a jury.
