He's riding on his brother's coat-tail.
China is cashing in on Obama's popularity.

Oops I gaffed.
What i meant was the other brother Mark.
Hope George will have his own identity.
Mark looks and talks a bit like Obama.

@ Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I heard about the protests in Malaysia. I hope you are OK and doing well! Take Care

Dodie

Larry, ask George Obama if his brother underwent the Muslim naming ceremony when he was a child. Muslim fathers traditionally go thru a Muslim naming ceremony where first and middle names are chosen from the Koran and the Hadit's.

A. Smith, Oregon   January 13th, 2010 2:50 am ET

@ Idzan Ismail what do you think the bible thumpers were thinking when the Christian leaders erased 'God' from the Christian bible and inserted the word 'Allah' in every instance and tried to pour those bibles into your country and the surrounding nations?

Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia   January 13th, 2010 9:24 am ET

A Smith and Dodie and all.

Hi just got back from a short family holiday Got home to find some "insane' people are throwing molotov cocktails at some churches. Majorityy of the Muslims condemned this action.
It's a sad day for us when all this while we pride ourself as a modern progressive nation. But it's an isolated case.
It's not worrying as it's made out to be.
Our government and the people are all united in trying to contain the incident. besides the police, the Muslims are helping to guard the churches.
Damage control was done fast including calling all the diplomatic missions in Malaysia to explain the situation.
It was an empty threat because of the usage of Allah by the Catholic newspaper.
The government has got the images of the people involved and they will be charged soon.
The government has paids thousands of dollars to repair the church which only one is badly destroyed. The rest have just broken glass panes and such.
It was a threat because if they are serious, this people would have chosen Sunday mass to kill the Christians.
hAs usual when a church is attacked, pthers wil also attacked our mosques.
In a multi-racial country like ours, it's hard to point out the perpetrators whether its the Malys, Chnese or Indians.
it could also be the job of supporters of oppostion parties which are envious of our new leadership who has won the hearts of the people with his One Malaysia concept.
For many of us, life go on as usual and I am still as close to my neighbors and friends of different race anf faith.

@ Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I am very happy to see you are safe and well. When I first heard the news, I thought of you and had hoped you were not in harms way

News often sensationalizes the event so one never really knows the actual particulars.

I often find it takes only a few radicals within a group or culture to ruin it for everyone else. I understand the Christian Church removed God and added Allah. You mentioned supporters of opposition parties could have started this fiasco. Do you know why this was done? What would be the reason behind such a stupid idea?

Stay well, Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Dodie

Dodie
Thanks for your concern.
It's not only me who is safe. Every Malaysian is.
Only a church is destroued.. And that also in the inside of the building.
I didnt say for sure it was the opposition suporters.
My take is its done by angry, dissatisfied unemployed people.
As I said in a multi-racial and multi-religious country like ours, anyone be it Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or others can take advantage of the situation to carry out the arson.
The CNN and world media are only interested in us if there are tragedy or catastophy.
Good story is not news. That's why you dont hert much about our country.

Dodie   January 14th, 2010 4:03 am ET

@ Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

You are absolutely correct. I listened to an interview on Chinese TV. They had interviewed Ted Turner who is head of CNN. He admitted that good news does not bring in good ratings and in order to keep everyone employed, he goes for the ratings!

A. Smith, Oregon   January 15th, 2010 4:00 pm ET

@ Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, thank you for the update on my concerns about the firebombing of some churches in Malaysia.

Indeed, good news is often pushed down the stack of news that is released either domestically or internationally. With the worlds attention on Haiti's disaster and the ongoing operations to help Haiti unfold, I'm wondering what is transpiring in several hot zones around the world. Although I doubt their conflicts are all on hold, there appears to be little if any news from them at this time.

What relationship does Saudi Arabia have with the Muslims in Malaysia, Idzan? It seems the ones largely promoting Islam is the Saudi's who see themselves as being at the center of a Islamic ruled world.

After the tsunami in that part of the world that silenced Pope John Paul, I was saddened to see the Muslims enact Sharia Law in the area heavily impacted by the resulting tidal waves.
