Bombing suspect provided 'actionable intelligence,' White House says

Posted: 08:53 PM ET

Washington (CNN) - The FBI attained "actionable intelligence" from bombing suspect Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab in the first hours after his arrest on Christmas Day, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday.

"AbdulMutallab spent a number of hours with FBI investigators in which we gleaned useable, actionable intelligence," Gibbs told reporters.

According to authorities, Nigerian-born AbdulMutallab tried to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear as a flight from Amsterdam, Netherlands, made its final approach to Detroit, Michigan, December 25. The device failed to fully detonate, instead setting off a fire at the man's seat.

Gibbs declined to elaborate on the nature of the intelligence. AbdulMutallab, 23, has been tied to the Yemen-based group al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

In a statement to reporters after meeting with his national security team, President Obama said U.S. officials had enough information in their possession before the failed bombing attack to have prevented the suspect from getting on the plane, but had been unable to "connect the dots."

Obama said he ordered his security team to complete preliminary reviews of the situation this week so that suggested reforms can be implemented immediately.

"Time and again we've learned that quickly piecing together information and taking swift action is critical to staying one step ahead of a nimble adversary," Obama said. "So we have to do better, and we will do better, and we have to do it quickly. American lives are on the line."

The Republican lawmakers and their puppets raked President Obama over the coals publicly stating on as many News Media outlets as they could that the Nigerian bomber made no statement, lawyered up and wasn't speaking, made zero statements.

It looks very apparent that this young man is entirely lacking in the logistics and planning that went into escorting him to a airport and getting him onto his Detroit flight.

I'm certain the FBI were very anxious to learn about any accomplices he had along the way and if the rumor of his surgical castration due to his severe burns is accurate, he probably is not happy with the Muslim religion and performing doing his duty as a faithful Muslim follower.

Does the American pubic have to wait until the trial before they learn about the Nigerian bombers accomplices?

The Obama administration is certainly losing its grip in the fight against terrorist by declaring innocent countries like Nigeria as a terrorist nation. Its a blunder by President Obama. A great blunder because he has no evidence to back it up that Nigeria as a country or Nigerians fund terrorism because we do not.

It is certainly a great anomaly that an "African American" will intimidate his origin with the might of office in a way that could not have been done to an European Country.

The fight against terrorism is not a fight against a geographical landmass otherwise the battles in Afghanistan and other parts of Asia would have stopped it. It is a fight against a network of people who can choose to operate from any part of the world.

Is Obama saying that if the terrorist was an American or Russian or French citizen he would have added the countries to the terrorist funding list.

The whole thing is just one big joke targeted at embarassing hard working honest Nigerians who have contributed and are still contributing to the development and growth of America
