Dick Cheney: Barack Obama 'trying to pretend'

Posted: 04:01 PM ET

Via Politico.com

By Mike Allen

Former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Barack Obama on Tuesday of “trying to pretend we are not at war” with terrorists, pointing to the White House response to the attempted sky bombing as reflecting a pattern that includes banishing the term “war on terror” and attempting to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

“[W]e are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe,” Cheney said in a statement to POLITICO. “Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency — social transformation — the restructuring of American society.”

Cheney was joining a chorus of Republicans who have criticized Obama following the Christmas Day attack, in which a Nigerian suspect is accused of trying to blow up a loaded airliner with a bomb stitched into his underwear.

A senior Democrat said in response: “It’s telling that in attacking the president and the administration, that Vice President Cheney did not condemn the attack against our nation on Christmas Day.”

The GOP would like nothing better than if than for a terrorist attack on American soil to actually take place because that is the only way they can get elected by creating fear in the American public, so they can launch their illegal wars for oil and profit that kill tens of thousands of innocent women and children and almost 5000 American soldiers. Are GOP leaders actually disappointed the plane did not blow up so they could blame Obama? Did the Bush administration deliberately let Osama escape from Tora Bora to keep the public living in fear?

Dodie   December 30th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

I should have known. Cheney pushing Pres Obama into another war. Just what he wants so he and an ‘oil family’ can use the US to open the door for their oil companies to map and develop the possibly huge oil potential in Yemen and Somalia who are two flanks of the same geological configuration, which holds large potential petroleum deposits, as well as being the flanks of the oil chokepoint from the Red Sea.

All you have to do is “follow the money trail” In a Central China TV (CCTV) report prior to the attempted attack on an American airline the report stated: “Al-Qaeda had planned to attack oil facilities, government buildings and the British embassy, said Yemen's National Security Chief Ali Mohammad Al-Ansi.
Yemen's Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Abdullah Al-Kurbi said the recent months have seen enhanced cooperation between his country and the United States, and the U.S. information had been a "key element" in Yemen's anti-terror operations.”

So, who would profit from bombing Yemen besides the large defense contractors such as Boeing receiving billions in government contracts. Who else would make trillions of dollars while having the American taxpayer again pay for another bombing? Not to mention securing the 2012 election in favor of whom they want to win as this could destroy Pres. Obama?

I ask all of you, who is behind this? It certainly is Not Yemen!

Dodie   December 30th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Woohoo Anne... another person who can see this stinky situation! Good for you!

Cheney the $War Profiteer$ should keep his mouth shut. He and his Republican ilk initiated 2 wars. He finally admitted Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 (after filling his wallet with Halliburton's ill-gotten gains). The continuation of war in Afghanistan is a mistake at this point.

A Nigerian man supposedly backed by Al Qaeda in Yemen is responsible for this latest terror attempt. US involvement in Afghanistan is NOT going to deter terrorist threats. Al Qaeda is NOT in Afghanistan. Per American General McChrystal in September '09: "I do NOT see indications of a large Al Qaeda presence in Afghanistan". The last count is about 100 Al Qaeda there (US sources). We are at war for 100 people!?!?!?

Americans who are making great sacrifices by going to war in Afghanistan and their families need answers. Why is the US still there in an escalated capacity? To protect us? Al Qaeda is long gone and in other countries such as Pakistan, Yemen, parts of Africa etc. Is the US going to bomb other sovereign nations where they are located? We have had too many civilian casualties due to this. The overwhelming majority of these continued civilian deaths are innocent Muslim people.

US presence in Afghanistan is not about freedom and security. It is about building permanent military bases surrounding Eur-Asia to monitor mainly Russia and China. The origin of this latest attempt is evidence enough that terrorism is not bound to a country. 100 Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and tens of thousands of US troops is not going to help the US cause. In fact it is going to increase hatred against the US due to the continued military presence, as is the case in Iraq and Afghanistan – for reasons other than US security.

Cheney, so ready to criticize, has forgotten his role as war criminal and mass murderer under the Bush regime. Many of us have not and will not forget his bloodied role. Who is pretending here?

Rose   December 30th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Interesting point to note: Per New York Times report February 2009 -French oil giant company named "Total" has gained a strong foothold in Yemen. It will start shipping liquefied natural gas from there completing a $4 billion project that took 4 years. These shipments will make Yemen the newest member of the world's small club of gas exporters and earn as much as $50 billion in tax revenue over the next 25 years. Total is the top ranked western oil company in Africa.

There was one small problem though, the export pipeline to the Gulf of Aden was damaged by terrorists or rebels. It cannot be implied that Total had anything to do with this latest terrorist attempt (there is no evidence) – only that the elimination of these rebels, at this time, will certainly benefit Yemen's government and the oil giant's substantial investors. How convenient to have the Delta plane would-be bomber apparently get his instructions from within Yemen.

Yet another attempt by a pathetic man to goad President Obama.

I agree with the previous multiple bloggers, Dick (shooter) Cheney is nothing but a puppet for his Big Oil and Defense Contractor masters.

After the attack upon Mexico City with the H1N1 virus in a failed attempt to push the new Obama Administration to close the American-Mexican border, I'm surprised Mexican Drug Cartel leaders haven't sent Dick Cheney a thank-you in return.

barbara pomerleau   December 30th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

why do you allow celebrities on your show to hawk books dispel rumors eg. charley sheen and his wife this evening 10pm eastern s tine. I first saw your program 20 years ago and decided it was worth the extra 15$ a month to subscribe to cnn.

at that time you had interviewed anyone that really mattered , except perhaps Queen Elizabeth lol. Now it is just plaine old BS .
You should strive to entertain and educate people\who can think.\.

I'll watch for my e-mail to tell who your guest are before I tune in.

very disappointed in you Larry because the puck stops at your desk not your directors.
any way

Happy New Year

Cheney needs to return back to his Death Star. Perhaps he should try on the same bomb-underwear that the suspect wore. That should blast his ass into orbit and relieve us all of his further comments.

Raymond   December 30th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Hi, Larry!

CIA, MI5, MI6, SIS and the Shadows are all "Bastards" – Has an ex- 22 year British soldier working in Belfast with SMIU and the RUC SB and MI5, nothing surprises me any more – our leaders, politicians in government know what is going on and do allow people to die for their own lust of greed and power. The British government know who murdered Earl Mountbatten – it was the labour party PM who used the IRA to kill him – Why? The British Army was going to take over the running of the country and Mountbatten was the leading this take-over, many generals retired soon after.
The PM at the time was sleeping with the Russians – would like a writer to do my book!

Kind regards,

Raymond.

A. Smith, Oregon   December 30th, 2009 7:50 pm ET

There appears to be a concerted attempt along with the failed Nigerian butt-bomber to force House and Senate lawmakers to renew The Patriot Act, which is due to expire!

A widely shared blog entry which is reflective of this counterpoint:

THE PATRIOT ACT WAS NOT GOING TO BE UPDATED AFTER DEC 2009 AND PARTS WERE SET TO EXPIRE. THIS CAUSED THE NSA and the CIA MUCH ANGER AS IT WOULD LIMIT THEIR ABILITYs TO SPY ON US CITIZENS, NOW THEIR REPUBLICAN PUPPETS WILL TRY TO RAM MORE BILLS THRU CONGRESS AND THE PATRIOT ACT WILL BE RE-BORN. HAPPY NEW YEAR YIPEEE!

It certainly appears based on the creditable eyewitness reports from two passengers on the same flight that the failed Nigerian Muslim bomber was helped thru Amsterdam's security checks despite the fact the bomber had NO PASSPORT!!

The Amsterdam military police have already said Abdulmutallab (the Muslim bomber) did not go through any passport control at Schiphol when he arrived from Lagos.

This certainly appears and suggests that a US Diplomat or US Govt. Agent personally and physically escorted the Nigerian Muslim bomber past ALL of the security check points and onto the International flight to America.

The middle aged man that escorted and spoke for the Nigerian Muslim bomber did not himself get on the bombed flight which certainly suggests that man knew the fellow he escorted and got pass all of the security gates had a bomb on him.

Americans need to fight back against the Dick Cheney's and Republican lawmaking hawks that work day and night to remove the Personal and Privacy Rights of ALL American Citizens.

America's Freedoms and Privacy Rights are ironically mirroring America's economic plunge into the ditch which President Obama is striving to free America from.

It is staggering to realize how many American freedoms and personal privacy's that law abiding American Citizens lost during the infamous Bush-Cheney administration.

A. Smith, Oregon   December 30th, 2009 8:16 pm ET

Dick (shooter) Cheney fits the profile of a Butt-Bomber.

I suggest Democratic Lawmakers and the American pubic deport Cheney to Italy where he can stand trial before a non-bribe-able Justice System for War Crimes.

Truthfully   December 30th, 2009 8:17 pm ET

WHY is this poor excuse for a man not in the dock at the Hague where he belongs? He is a WAR CRIMINAL, as is W. Both are personally responsible for the deaths of every person killed in Iraq – on BOTH sides of the conflict. They shame and embarass me as an American and as a human being.

Because Obama will not "man up" to the fact that four attempted terrorist attacks have happened during his short time as President, more than the last six years under Bush and Cheney, he and Robert Gibbs now are looking back and blaming the previous administration. Cheney responds to Obama and Gibbs and the left get upset. Until Obama's administration stops playing the blame game on the previous administration, Cheney will keep making the President and the left boil. Obama can't even bring himself to say "Islamic Terrorists". He and Biden changed the security procedures in place by Bush because they are naive and I fear this is only the beginning. This terrorists see Obama and the dems as an answer to their prayers....WEAK. Instead of pushing health care and playing golf, the President needs to insure the safety of all Americans which is his #1 job.

Harriett   December 30th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

why is Obama still playing golf in Hawaii?

Arman   December 30th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

I think that the media should have some sense of integrity before even allowing Dick Cheney's comments to receive the amount of publicity it is receiving. I think the media should have more respect for the American people and not acknowledge anything coming from that man. This disregard by the media only solidifies conspiracy theories.

Arman   December 30th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

Thanks for bringing up the PATRIOT ACT and its expiration A. Smith, Oregon.

That was an atrocious debate Larry. Both those women were giving us their opinions and added no real information.

colleen   December 30th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

i am glad that i am a canadian. it is totally ridiculous the way so many americans are critical of your president, what he wears, what he says, instead of banding together, supporting the administration and going forward with more intellegience in place. it does not take a rocket scientist to know the whole fault for this attempted attach is the airport security. someone boarding a plane, no luggage, no coat, paying cash....he should have had a total strip search. therein lies the blame.

Martina   December 30th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

There is no way the President can insure the safety of all Americans. That is not possible. He can do the best he can with what he has to work with....incompetent people. How do you insure the safety of americans everywhere? If you have an answer let me know. I am interested in your answers.
Secondly, the terrorists played the caucasian race. Everyone thought the face of a terrorist was Arabic, low and behold it can be anyone. His father was dismissed as not important at the Nigerian American Embassy because he was a black man. What could he possibly know? The terrorists played the race card and the establishment bit on it. Who would have thought a baby faced black young man would have a project to blow up a plane. We Americans will always be weak when it comes to profiling terrorists...we cannot adapt to change and the terrorists are constantly changing the game plan.
and for anybodys poll ...yes I will let them xray my body and hope they put them everywhere....Does the xrays show the groin area or the internal organs like swallowed explosives? If we are going to xray lets do it right not half azz.

colleen   December 30th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

p.s. cheney should be tried for a traitor to his country. if he is so smart he would not have put the troops in harms way in iraq, and, if he is so well informed, he should be helping out his country by giving constructive information to the administration. they should go ahead and put him on trial for war crimes.

frankie   December 30th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

It is disgusting, revolting, nauseating and not in our national interest, for some Republicans to be trying to score political points off of the terrorist plot. They have crossed a line they never crossed before.

Shirley Thomason   December 30th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

What's with the crazy woman on the right with the GOP? Such a short memory. Where was Bush after nine-eleven? No one know. That was a big question at the time. We will certainly never be safe as long as we continue to bicker. A house divided will fall.

Janet LaSusa   December 30th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

As a former NWA flight attendant and wife of a NWA 747-400 captain, it is time to make the skies safe not only for the flying public but, those that work in the sky. We have a right to be safe when we go to work and the government needs to have an office that takes in all of the facts and puts a puzzle together. We heard of Osama Bin Laden in our security training classes in the 1980's which means this has gone on way too long. The new TSA techniques are to pacify people that "things are being done", which is untrue when the real problem of lack of communication needs to be addressed. This is not a partisan issue. I only care about the safety of my husband and many former colleagues and the innocent traveling public. The statistics state that almost 100 percent of these terrorists are male and Muslim. Quit screening the pregnant women and little old ladies and let's keep us all safe. If I were Muslim and innocent, which most are, I would also be comforted by screening the people that in the statistics are most risky. No one has to remove a turban to get through security. Let's keep the skies safe by looking at the Israeli's who are constantly threatened and have the best security in the world. Janet Napolitano's comments were a travesty and she needs a new job. If this is who is leading the agency to protect us, give it up.

Elfriede Schmidt   December 30th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Dick Cheney has the knowledge and experience to criticize President
Obama. In addition, he has no political ambition which makes him that much more credible.
I commend Mr. Cheney for speaking up and setting the record streight.

sharon blumenstock   December 30th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

I was not affiliated with one party or the other but the wingdings are pushing me to become a democrat.

When will the media get it..... the only reason Cheney is given the time of day is because he is always carping on what President Obama did or did'nt do......he creates a controversy to constantly keep himself in the limelight. I have said it before I dont care what Dick Cheney said 8 years ago or 8 minutes ago..... I just hope he runs for President. in 2012....

Linda Baccus   December 30th, 2009 11:07 pm ET

It's Obvious that because he has different views then the Bush Admin..He will be ATTACTED... I want to say this. Hatred in ANY form and from Any Group of people is STILL Hatred.
AMERICA DON'T HAVE PURIFIED HANDS and NEVER DID!!
Frankly, The Bigots here in America that we see spewing Hatred all over the News Daily in NO DIFFERENT. This Hatred, finger pointing, blantant Ignorance need to STOP!!! LET'S GET UNIFIED, GET WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA and handle the business of AMERICA!!!! and get systems in placed to protect the America People.

robert (speedy) Gonzales   December 30th, 2009 11:53 pm ET

Everyone agrees Cheney is an idiot. How do we not see that our thirst for middle east oil has and always will help fund terrorist activities. They really don't want us on the face of the planet. This should be a kick in the pants that we have to stop our dependance on foreign energy. The short term gain of political back stabbing is at the expense of legitimate action against those who truly wish to KILL American's, Men Women and Children! We have to protect our families and dividied We will FALL. Is short term monetary Profit worth our souls. I have felt and witnessed the power of Prayer- Christians need to examine themselves and ask God for Wisdom and act as if your immortal soul depends on, It Does! By Faith we are given the gift of Eternal Salvation. The Bible also says Faith without Deeds is Dead!!! Hmmmmmm.

President Obama is not pretending, he is protecting his country base on what he inherited from the Bush/Cheney Administration. Every administration has made some form of mistake once in their life time. There where some reports that should have been simulated prior to 911 during the Bush/Cheney Administration, and that information was not share appropriately, Obama was not in power then. Dick Cheney needs to go and retire somewhere and stop acting as if he does not know where the whole entire terrorist escalation attacks on the American soil started from. It did not start with Obama, it started with the Bush/Cheney Administration for which he was part off. Let’s unite and stop taking the blame from the Bush Administration and put it on Obama Administration. If the Bush/Cheney Administration had done their job very well in the first place and was honest with the American people, The Bush/Cheney Administration could have capture Bin Laden before the Bush Administration left office. Instead, they lie to the American people with their false intelligence and false inspection during their invistigation and presented them at the hearings. Cheney is the first formal vice president who I have seen that want to see another present administration fail. Is it because he did not get a chance to run to become a president? No one stop him from running or being a presidential candidate. If he love his country so much, he could have over looked his illness and run for this country. But since he made a healthy choice not to run, then le us unite with the present administration so that the country can move forward. Obama has only been in power for less than a year, and he has done well protecting his country.

Thank you,
PT

.

Elliot (D.Ops @ Maximum Security)   December 31st, 2009 1:03 am ET

Cheney, Bush and the other right wing extremists like Hannity, O'Reilly and Limbaugh believe that ranting, raving and spewing tough talk will somehow combat terrorism. Since most of them have never had the courage to actually face an armed enemy, it feeds their egos but actually incites more violence. Saying little while silently killing your enemies has proven an infinitely more effective tactic for the past two thousand years or so. Talking your enemies out of their anger, while nearly impossible with fanatics, is still a goal worth pursuing.

David Kean   December 31st, 2009 1:11 am ET

The FBI Director should immediately go before the American people and explain why the man that was seen by closed circuit security cameras at Amsterdam's International Gate and by two creditable witness's, one who is a US Attorney as sneaking the Nigerian Muslim butt-bomber past Amsterdam's security checks and onto a International Flight to America without a passport, Is NOT on the FBI MOST WANTED FUGITIVES LIST.

America's News Media from day ONE, should be demanding the photo of the Nigerian Muslim butt-bomber's Passport among the items police collected when that man was treated for his burns and locked into jail.

World News Media from day ONE, should be demanding the security camera photo of the man who sneaked the Nigerian Muslim butt-bomber past Amsterdam's security checks and onto a International Flight to America without a passport.

That man was either a US Diplomat, or a US Govt. Agent (CIA), no one else could waive the International law which prohibits passengers without passports from flying from Amsterdam to America without a passport.

That man obviously didn't board the International Flight himself and that seriously suggests he knew the Nigerian man he was sneaking past the Amsterdam's security check points had a bomb on him and was going to bomb that airliner.

After the CIA created the Taliban in Pakistan to fight the Russian troops in 1980-1990 Afghanistan and trained, instructed them to create IED's and torture Russian troops for information, it is entirely refreshing to learn that Karma is alive and well when a size able group of CIA agents in Afghanistan (8) were blown up by a suicide Taliban fighter today.

And in a added Karmic bonus, Rush (Republican Boss) Limbaugh is severely ill and in a hospital in Hawaii citing severe chest pains.

As the Nationwide news about Limbaugh broke, the audience in the restaurant I was in began loudly cheering, with a few patrons stating they hope he dies. It seems ironic he is suffering what appears to be a heart attack after loudly criticizing President Obama for being in Hawaii during the holiday when the Nigerian Muslim butt-bomber tried to destroy the jetliner, and Limbaugh ends up in a Honolulu hospital complaining of severe chest pains.

And in yet another added Karmic bonus, the Bible Thumping Evangelical pastor Rick Warren says his church needs to raise nearly $1 million to keep out of bankruptcy. Warren says in a fund-raising letter to parishioners that "the bottom dropped out" when year-end donations dropped dramatically.

Yippee, Happy New Year!

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS BREACH OF SECURITY ON FLIGHT 253. Our government had all the information they needed and did absolutey nothing to prevent it. What does it take to get this man on the no fly list. This mans father told our goverment about his behavior. His backgounds and ties to Yeman all coorberate all that his father said. At least why was he not put on a "NO FLY" list immediately. Instead our government chooses to constantly harass our own people. The people that do these type of activities are between the ages of 18 and 35 years old and have distinctive middle east sir names. The individuals that are commiting these acts are not named Bob Smith. We have very good FBI profilers that can give you an acurate profile of the individuals committing these acts. Lets use it and quit being so politically correct. With information we had how in the world did this guy get a visa to come to our country. Its totally unacceptable. It's obvious our President needs to make some serious changes, starting by replacing Janet Napolitano to set an example. As drastic as that is we need to show the folks running things that this must be stopped before we get a plane load of people killed or worse. NO MORE EXCUSES!!!

Mrs DICK
President Obama is very much trying to repair the disastrous and destructive administration left by you and Bush ,Obama is an intelligent man of peace ,he is trying to rebuild America ,that will take much time that he has served so far ,it will take at least a decade to stabilize this tremendous destruction done by you and Bush .
could you or Bush had prevented September 11 ?
the Bush administration had their opportunity to make it better but they failed America with their Arrogance and they underestimated
the problem with terroism by creating a bigger problem them selves
by sending innocent son and daughter to be killed without any justice.
Just leave Mrs Obama alone ,if you could not do any better when you had the chance ,you better just go away and be ashamed of your self
God bless you and protect you Mrs Obama .

Larry King, Rush could well be resting comfortably in a Honolulu hospital but Bloggers are reporting the heart attack death of Rush 'boss' Limbaugh tonight, one stated he was diagnosed earlier this year with cancer. Could you update us on the development on that big bag of wind's health condition?

Some noteworthy graveyard humor statements from Blanca DeBree:

Limbaugh is not expected to survive the night. If it appears he is close to recovering, he has left orders to smother him with a pillow just before midnight, so he can be guaranteed a spot in most of the 2009 In Memorandum Salutes.

An emergency meeting was called on Capitol Hill. This is third high profile death caused by reckless prayers ordered by Senator Coburn. It is expected that Congress will ban prayer until further notice to prevent Glenn Beck from dying from hysteria!

I am shocked, yet not surprised about Mr Cheney's purposes. As the vice-president of THE administration that, within a 8-years turn, accumulated more mistakes than all the previous administrations alltogether he really should keep his mouth shut!

Mike   December 31st, 2009 7:05 am ET

Dick Cheney, Newt Giingrich, Sean Hannity, Republicans, etc are all praying for a succesful terrorist attack against USA so as to discredit Obama forgetting that "a stone thrown into a market can hit any head".
I wont know why America has degenerated so much that these people are so focussed on Obama and they have people who actually listen to them.
They make idiocy seem like a compliment what with Newt suggesting a separate queue and profiling for moslems- maybe another one for Catholics, pentecostals, gays, lesbians etc. What if other countries also have separate queue for Americans probably in syria, lebanon, Peru, venezuala? And for the the full body scanners, i ask like one other person queried- are we not all safer flying naked?
Can these people think for a second before opening their mouth? Fast-food thinking and knee-jerk responses are for kids and little minds. Intelligence is mightier than the sword!! Obama may not have all the answers but he sure tries to find intelligent answers to real problems.

Al Queida = Republicans

Radical/Extremist Imams = Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, glen beck, sarah palin, etc

Yemen/Afghanistan = Fox news channel

This is the new face of home-grown terrorism!!

The constant moan from the left and this administration that President Obama inherited all that is bad is a total cop out. Evidently, it is forgotten that Sen. Obama and the dems have controlled the Congress and the purse strings since 2006. Infact Sens. Obama and Biden voted for the monies to spend on the bridge to nowhere that they complained about during the campaign. Sen, Obama willing wanted the job as President. Yes, Bush let go two terrorist from Gitmo to Yemin and now they are the terrorists leaders in that country. Under the cover of darkness just before Christman , Obama let 6 more out of Gitmo to Yemin. Bad behavior by Bush is no justification for worse behavior by Pres. Obama and this administration. There are non so blind as those who will not see.

@ A. Smith, Oregon

The words of the year are: butt-bomber, butt-scanner and Bible thumper. You go down in history.
Have a great 2010 and give us more reason to have a good laugh.

Ted   December 31st, 2009 12:03 pm ET

The job of the President is a 24/7 and I certainly don´t want it at any price. Blaming him to take time off so he can recuperate is silly at least or stupid in my opinion. Do you want a president that is burned out and not in charge of his senses? He needs a vacation more than most of us.

The Detroit incident took his course in Europe, so not the TSA is responsible for any failure to detect the bomb. How can you blame the president for such an oversight, you would not blame the president of a huge bank if a clerk someplace made a mistake in your bank account. Or do you think the TSA has the right to controll all airports in the world? Other nations do not get as hysterical as we do on any little incident and I have the feeling this was an CIA or NSA operation that went haywire. Or how could someone board a US plane flying to the USA without a passport? We may never know the truth, however the incident gives us an excuse to bomb and invade Yemen with its huge gas deposits.
By the way, did you know that north Afghanistan has huge gas fields and is rich in many minerals such as copper? Not the Taliban, but those riches are the reason for our invasion.

eJay   December 31st, 2009 1:07 pm ET

Cheney is trying to pretend he is still Vice President, Obama is trying to fix the mess they made.

Marry   December 31st, 2009 1:42 pm ET

Cheney is such a despicable person! He could not “stand” for President Obama at the Inauguration last year and has not and will never stand for the country either. Lies, hate, aggravation, and money – that is all Cheney is about. President Obama showing character, intelligence, etc. and is liked and respected worldwide is just too much for Cheney to stomach. Cheney, just as many other of his likes (Rove, Limbaugh, etc.), just took the wrong turn in their lives a long time ago.

A. Smith, Oregon   December 31st, 2009 2:52 pm ET

@ Ted, thank-you for your insights and comments. When it comes to the Republican fear-mongers and hawks ready to push America into yet a 3rd. war, humor is a powerful tool to spotlight what really matters.

thomas   December 31st, 2009 4:26 pm ET

what an ugly man Cheney is, inside & out, no soul, no spirit, jealous of Obama..& that goes for his daughter too...I doubt that he is a religious, spiritual person..he is self center & self absorbed...who gave birth to him? I would be embarrassed if he were my son, sorry Mr. King,,he's despicable...

Hugh Carpenter ~ Tracy, California   December 31st, 2009 5:03 pm ET

Even if you cut off it's head, a serpent will still try to strike back! Dick Cheney is a snake of the first order; a spineless fraud with a forked-tongue - spitting out his foul lies!

Raychil   December 31st, 2009 5:21 pm ET

Go away, Cheney! You are no longer relevant.

Mary   December 31st, 2009 5:55 pm ET

Oh Larry ,
Please don't entertain the vile serpent. I'm just so glad the the majority here see the evil monger for what he really is.. he is so dark and full of evil, revenge, hate, envy-–I mean he just sucks .-Dick ...just go away !!

Tony   December 31st, 2009 6:45 pm ET

Dick Cheney was the Ground Zero of Corruption in the Bush/PNAC administration. (Project for the New American Century)

What is PNAC?
Their Goal: The neoconservative agenda

Established in the spring of 1997 and funded largely by the energy and arms industries, the Project for the New American Century was founded as the neoconservative think tank whose stated goal was to usher in a “new American century”. Having won the cold war and no military threat to speak of, this group of ideologues created a blueprint for the future whose agenda was to capitalize upon our surplus of military forces and funds and forcing American hegemony and corporate privatization throughout the world. In their statement of principles they outline a fourfold agenda:

1) Increase an already enormous military budget at the expense of domestic social programs

2) Toppling of regimes resistant to our corporate interests

3) Forcing democracy at the barrel of a gun in regions that have no history of the democratic process

4) Replacing the UN’s role of preserving and extending international order

Ebrahim Afsah, in "Creed, Cabal, or Conspiracy – The Origins of the Current Neo-Conservative Revolution in US Strategic Thinking", published in the German Law Journal, cited Jochen Bölsche's view that the goal of the PNAC was world dominance or global hegemony by the United States. According to Bölsche, Rebuilding America's Defenses "was developed by Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz and Libby, and is devoted to matters of 'maintaining US pre-eminence, thwarting rival powers and shaping the global security system according to US interests

William Rivers Pitt, editorial director of Progressive Democrats of America, wrote, in an editorial published by Truthout.org, that PNAC was motivated by an imperial agenda of US military expansionism, which would bring negative side effects to ordinary citizens of the United States, while enriching some industries. The defense contractors such as Boeing would drain the American tax revenue, while be handsomely paid for arming this new American empire

2000 – 2008 Cheney and his PNAC warriors (Rove, Rumsfeld) have taken control of US foreign policy, intelligence services and military so that they can proceed with their agenda. This is the reason for Cheney's power.
