Why scandals don't faze Charlie Sheen's career

(CNN) - Will the Christmas Day arrest of one of America's highest-paid television actors spell the end of his career? When that actor is Charlie Sheen, the answer is probably not.

Sheen, 44, whose real name is Carlos Irwin Estevez, has known scandal before and has worked each of his arrests, divorces and indiscretions into the canon of bad-boy lore that has made him essentially scandal-proof.

"Charlie Sheen has bounced back from various scandals, and I don't think anyone expects anything more from him," said public relations expert Vanessa J. Horwell, founder and Chief Visibility Officer of ThinkInk PR. "Bad-boy behavior is part of his persona that's been a work in progress since the 1980s. He has bounced back time and time again."

The latest scandal to rock Sheen's world is his December 25 arrest in Aspen, Colorado, on second-degree assault and menacing charges, both felonies, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Sheen has been married to sometime actress and real estate investor Brooke Mueller Sheen, 32, his third wife, since May 2008. The couple have twin sons who were born in March. They were reportedly having an argument when he was arrested.

A 911 call released by Aspen police on Monday revealed Mueller Sheen reporting a domestic abuse case and alleging that Sheen was threatening her with a knife.

Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield issued a statement following the arrest on Friday urging against a rush to judgment against his client.

"Do not be misled by appearance," Rosenfield said. "Appearance and reality can be as different as night and day. It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion."

Scandals do not phase Charlie Sheen's career because he is not a black, androgynous humanitarian who cares about human rights and social justice. If he were, the FBI would be all over the world investigating him based on tabloid leads and extortion attempts instead of looking for Osama Bin Laden.

It amazes me. I guess it just shows how moralless the tv exec's are. I personally don't have a clue what everyone see's in him? I think he's ugly on the inside and out. I suspect he's just friends with the "right" people in the biz.

Here we go again.

More fodder for the tabloid rags..

Being a big money maker in this world is an instant target on your back for the thousands of "MONEY GRUBBERS" to find a way to relieve you of some of it.

Give me a break, Charlie Sheen carrying a knife???

Charlie's wife comes from a mother devorced 4 times that has successfully bled her former spouses for millions upon millions, and she is somehow involved in advising her daughter how to bleed Charlie the same as she has done.

You said it all!!!!

Why? Because he's Martin Sheen's son. A long time Hollywood A-List.

I agree with Anne. It's also because the public knows what they're getting with Charlie. He's been a known bad boy since day one. People are more affended by hypocrites, people who present themselves one way (to get more fans, endorsments, votes) and are completely different behind closed doors. With Charlie's history I was not surprised at all to hear about his marriage problems, infact I saw it coming. Let's just say that his history shows that he isn't great marriage material. Am I a fan of him, watch his show or support anything with him? No. But I respect that he truthful with his audience so they can make that choice on thier own instead of being sold something phonie and then having buyers remorse when the truth comes out!
