LKL: Is Obama failing the African-American community?

Expat American   December 17th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

CNN/LKL, this is a ridiculous heading. Did Bush fail 'White'-Americans? How about President Clinton? Did he fail 'Married-Americans'? I'm on a last one. Did Tiger Woods fail 'Golfer-Americans'? Why isn’t or wasn’t such an emphasis placed on President Clinton’s marital indiscretions or Tiger Woods’ approach game?

As a person himself with an African father and an American 'Caucasian' mother is the President ‘failing’ only those Americans with African fathers and White mothers; or is the President ‘failing’ those African-Americans, born in the U.S to (native born) American parents who happen to be 'Black'?

The more the media injects race as the introductory boilerplate; the more the plot gets lost in 'race-obsessed translation'.

Stop the insanity! What happened to that woman, anyway? She had some unique 'eye brows' if I remember correctly. Buns of Steel!

A. Smith, Oregon   December 17th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

President Obama has repeated stated before the American people that he serves all the American people, not just the Black community.

During these difficult economic times, Black Americans have their hands out for government assistance, along with Hispanic, White, Asian and Native Americans.

Kara   December 17th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

hum, and people wonder why race is still such a big topic of conversation. If you stop placing emphasize on it, then maybe it would not be so widely discussed and we could all live as our country promotes, a united nation. A black persons needs, wants and abilities are NO DIFFERENT than mine. Get over it! Race is history and needs to stay there. Have we ever heard of the saying, the past is the past and leave it there!

Dodie   December 17th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

President Obama is the commander-in-chief for ALL Americans regardless of their skin color, race, religion, etc. He is no different than other presidents. His role is to lead the American people, not lead only the blacks. He has stated this numerous times! This statement is just absurd!

I would strongly recommend you change the title of this blog, as I feel it is erroneous and may induce added conflict since some already think this way!

SuzieCanada   December 17th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

I agree with all the previous posters. This question is absurd. President Obama is the leader of the American people, period, so the question should be "is he failing the American people?". The answer, in my opinion, is a resounding NO but that's beside the point ...

pat davis   December 17th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

A. Smith,

Thank you very much! Nothing more to be said!

S. Neumann   December 17th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

When will the media let this die!!! It's the media that drives this black/white issue. The majority of Americans don't care about the color of one's skin, it's what's inside that counts. This is exactly why our mainstream media has "lost" it's audience, and is so out of touch with the real world, where most of us live.
President Obama best be governing for all people! Although, with the healthcare drama going on right now, it seems he's all about himself rather than any of the rest of us!!! This healthcare bill is nothing but a political "feather in the cap" of the Democrats and the President. It doesn't seem to matter what the majority of Americans want, or don't want, in this case!

AAW   December 17th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Its not this President or any Presidents responsibility to do anything for black people. Black people are responsible for black people...period! Things will never improve (for us) as long as we continue to wait for some messiah to solve our problems. Some blacks voted for Obama because they felt he would "do" something for them. Now that he hasn't cured the ails of thier poor life decisions, those same voters feel betrayed. There is nothing you can say to those people because they will never accept full accountability for thier own lives and actions.

John   December 17th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

I'm not prejudice...I didn't vote for the white half either.

Roselyn   December 17th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

This is the most ridiculous topic of discussion I've ever seen on CNN, or else where for that matters.
Seriously people, the president is dealing with two wars, a challenging economy, health care and immigration reforms... And we are trying to get him to pay special attention to black Americans? What the heck??? Since he's half white, maybe the heading should read "Is Obama failing the African-America and European-American communities? Obviously he was elected to serve only the two races that best represent him. I can't believe I actually wasted my time writing this comment. By the way I am African – American.

DrEvil   December 17th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

Obama is failing all Americans. It is just that black Americans had and have more faith in him and had more of an expectation that he would improve the country instead of exacerbating the existing problems we have. Don't blame King or CNN I believe it was the Congressional Black Caucus, a racist organization if ever there was one, that first brought this (non)topic to national attention.

Have an Evil day

JBM   December 17th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

I don't know President Obama personally, of course, but I cannot imagine that he appreciates this type of controversy. As others have said, he is the President who serves all of the people. Not only does he serve everyone and every race in the US, but some from every race voted for him. And as has been the case throughout history, he will not be able to satisfy everyone since not everyone has the same political point of view. To separate us out by race, etc., can bring nothing beneficial to the discussion. The media should step back and ask themselves what it is they hope to accomplish with this type of rhetoric.

Jane Adams   December 17th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

This is a ridiculous headline. Stop making color issues, and YES, Obama is letting the American people by his lack of experience.

Kathy   December 17th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

the Question should be what is stopping the Black Community? We the people have elected our 1st Black President! Mr. Obama proved that the sky is the limit for all!

Max   December 17th, 2009 4:28 pm ET

on the front page of CNN website....there is a story of a Black freed after 35 years in Prison for a crime he didn't commit...listen to this man...a great example of a Black Man IN ALL HIS GLORY...look at his strength and firm he a CRY-Baby?....beating a dead horse or making his race look bad.?....we are a powerful race....a determined race....a race of 13% of the population...that now we have a representative running this whole country....Take your own advice...grow up.....our power as a race will continue to be displayed in our Great America....

Joe G. (Illinois)   December 17th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

It don’t matter if he is for Abortion.. Give him time.. Maybe he will bring the DOW back up.. And then other countries will come back to invest and bring back jobs into this country. How can people like me be so quick, opinionated and negative about a person?! Does Abortion have to be the defining trait of a person?

Bill   December 17th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Wow....what a total lack of credibility. The "black" community could not have been more "proud" and "teary-eyed" and "come full circle" a year ago when President Obama was elected. Fast forward a year and it's totally gone. What the hell do you want him to do? That's what I want to know. What would satisfy the "black" community? What exactly would it take? My guess......whatever he does it will never be enough. Here's the long and short of it. Whatever the "black" community has not accomplished to date.....forget it. When Barack Obama became the president he effectively put to rest an entire generation of sniveling racial snobbery. If you haven't participated in the "black" movement to this point then don't worry about it. WE ARE ALL in this mess together – black, white, yellow, red and purple. Stop complaining, get off the sidelines and go help someone that's worse off than you are. If you have warm blood running through your veins and you can speak freely and aren't in danger of having your family systematically raped, beaten and tortured tonight then shut're doing fine.

Jason Cotham   December 17th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

It serves this administration right for this question to be asked. Anytime anyone questioned his policies during the campaign they played the race card. Even Bill Clinton said when Hillary was in the primaries that they were playing the race card. All u crazy liberals forget that though don't you. I am a Puerto Rican, Irish, Dutch, and Native American citizen of the United States and I hate racism, but I also hate when you manipulate racism to help you be successful in politics. That's exactly what Obama did. Finally, those of you can't comprehend beyond the third grade level of reading I would like to clarify the title. Is Obama failing the African American community? They are asking if the promises he made to the African American community are being kept. When he made specific promises to a certain group(in this case African Americans) he created the opportunity for this question to be asked. So don't tear down a question that Obama made revelant when he made a promise.

Out of work since spring 2009.   December 17th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

He is failing all Americans! Please cancel the H1B program.

shyd   December 17th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

He is the President of the United States. He has a duty to serve All, not just blacks. He inherited many of the difficulties that we as a Nation face.
If he overtly went above and beyond to help just blacks, then I can only imagine what the topic would be. He is looking to help US all. As a retired Air Force Black American Veteran, he has my support and Respect!!!!

Pcn2485   December 17th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

He's failing everyone

joe J   December 17th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

Obama is not failing Black America the man is failing America in general never has there been a president do so much damage to the nation in so little time. HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR CHANGE NOW?

michael   December 17th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Dear Deb..the Black community did not make up the Larry King headline that is tittled nor did the black community invite the guests on the show. I watched the show and you will be happy to know that the "Black Leaders" that were on the show did not give in to the intent of the title labelled here. It was a good show which had all disagree with the intent of the title. Lots of black people just listen and shake their heads when it is assumed by white america that we are represented by a few. Just as you suggest that some people get over the past, maybe it would help to take the blinders off and realize that 13% of the population is not represented by a few people. In the past it was necessary for spokespeople because evryone cannot be heard at the same time. Please, lets try to meet each other halfway and be respectful where we can and not give credibility to sensational titles and sensational people. I am a black man out of work for the first time for close to two years, but I still line up at the temp agency every Monday, but I will note here with others who are all different colors although the majority are black and hispanic....and the hispanic there are legal by the way....and so am I...all 55 years of me, with no leader in line with me......Take care

Josh   December 17th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Obama is failing America. He is radical, he is a socialist and he is destroying America. He is failing everything and everyone. Get him out of office quick before he makes our country any worse!!!

DB   December 17th, 2009 5:37 pm ET

Hey Joe, You're exactly right! So many in this nation have no
idea the direction Obama is taking this country. If you've been
to Russia, the former East Germany or China you know
where it's headed. For those of you that don't stop, the whinning
now because the worst is yet to come under our current

shyd   December 17th, 2009 5:46 pm ET

joe j, you have got to be kidding me. Is that just your opinion or would you like to add a little substance here. (Quantify)

D.R. Snow   December 17th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

President Obama is working for all Americans. African Americans needs are the same as Whites, Asians, Latino, etc.
A better economy with jobs, proper health care, better education, safe neighborhoods, and a clean environment.
If some think that he owes us more because of skin color, then they are disillusioned.
I take exception with the article by Lloyd Grove in The Daily Beast.
1.Closing Getmo is important to African Americans
2. Stopping Iran and N. Korea from getting Nuclear Weapons is important to African Americans.
3 Improving Health Care is important to African Americans.
4 Improving our environment and lessening our carbon footprint is important to African Americans.
President Obama is working on this and more, even though the media and his detractors said he is doing too much.
All groups of Americans are in the same place. Don't try to divide us by instigating a race debate.

Rod   December 17th, 2009 5:49 pm ET

Give me a break! Now to whom will blacks turn if not Obama? The friggin republicans? I don't think so, unless as a group they have all drunk the kool aid.

Renee   December 17th, 2009 5:50 pm ET

A ridiculous question. He serves all Americans. As far as I can tell, I believe that he is doing a good job thus far for everyone. The economy is in a slow recovery, it seems that there will be a health care reform of some kind and he is doing what he said he would in Afghanistan and he is withdrawing from Iraq as he said he would... sounds like what the majority of "all" americans voted for is happening, sorry if it isn't fast enough for everyone. Once again, it's a ridiculous question.

Madhu   December 17th, 2009 6:09 pm ET

fantastic response by expat american.

D.R. Snow   December 17th, 2009 6:11 pm ET

I take exception with Lloyd Groves article in The Daily Beast.
Pres. Obama is workin for all Americans. Don't try to divide us by instigating a race debate on what is right for African Americans.
1. Closing Gitmo
2. Stopping Iran and N. Korea from getting Nuclear weapons.
3. Getting our soldiers home from Iraq.
4. Improving our economy and getting jobs for all Americans.
5. Lessening our carbon footprint.
These are all important to me as an African American, just as to White Americans, Asian American, Latino Americans, etc.
Our President is working on all these items.
If Glover and Jackson want to improve the African American community, they can follow the example of Oprah Winfrey in donating time and money to educational institutions in poor neighborhoods. Not potshot at a President who is doing exactly what he said in the two years that he campaigned. That is the change that he promised!

The City on a Shining Hill   December 17th, 2009 6:23 pm ET

Let's not forget a famous African American, who despite discrimination before the 1961 civil rights laws were enacted in America, received a doctorate in chemistry in the south and went on to do great things, even using peanuts in Georgia back in the 1800's to develop products we use today!

His name?

Dr. George Washington Carver!

Yes, in America, even an illegal alien from Mexico who once worked in agriculture can become a great brain surgeon at John Hopkins University, saving lives every day.

To all the African Americans and Hispanics in America, don't give up on your dreams! Dr. Martin Luther King concurs!

LHG   December 17th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

Normally, I do not respond to posts, but I read the comments. This time, I felt compelled to respond.

Three things:

As a black person, I am sick and tired of all of these people who would not have a clue what I would say speaking for me. Who gives the people that were interviewed that right? Good grief. This is not to undermine what value they may or may not have in the community, but they need to think twice before they speak for all of "us."

We need to communicate about race within our country. There is still a lot of hurt from the past that needs to be let go, but just as any pain- it needs to be healed. Screaming "get over it" is not the answer when a race has had no real acknowledgement of their pain.

We should be more focused on what unites us and how to move forward from this point on. It is not just the president who can incite change- we can as well.

Thomas   December 17th, 2009 6:31 pm ET

Is he only the president of African Americans? This whole racial line needs to go away. He was elected by the people. That includes all races. He has a responsibility to everyone and if he only focuses on 1 segment of the population, he fails everyone else. He's got a difficult job to do and doesn't need to worry about things like this. We as a society need to worry about race relations because that is where it starts and ends. Gov't intervention will do nothing to help. I expect better from Larry King.

Kiaa   December 17th, 2009 6:36 pm ET

What ridicules “Headline” CNN always try to provoke people to debt, this obviously doesn’t make any sense in any standard, when Mr. Bush was a president, did black people say he is failing white American? No one did, because no matter the color of your skin, the President of United State represents all people dead or breathing. Mr. Obama has the responsibility to all Americans, even his own wife and children should never receive any upper hand then any Americans. As father and husband that is different, but as an American we all succeed together or fail tighter. I’m black, if Mr. Obama fail, we as American fall together.

the Colonel   December 17th, 2009 6:45 pm ET

Sooooooo.....if race isn't an issue why did Obama garner 95% of the African American vote? No race issue there.

Ken   December 17th, 2009 6:49 pm ET

Wasn't there a recent outcry from the "Black Caucus" of which President Obama was a member of while in the Senate decrying the lack of attention he has provided to the plight of the Black community? Talk to them about bringing up such a crazy idea.

Tina   December 17th, 2009 7:10 pm ET

As a black woman, I'm offended by this ridiculous question. I have yet to speak to any black family member or friend who expects anything special from our President because of his race. He is every U.S. citizen's President. His efforts are on behalf of all of us. I am so sick of all the scrutiny President Obama has to endure from the right and the left merely because of his color. Were he white, this idiotic question would not even be raised. Shame on you, Larry King.

sheelahmpls   December 17th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

Well, excuse me, Mr Jeff Johnson, BET news. Barach Obama did promise that he was Jesus Christ. He said he going to get real health care reform. What exactly did he do? He sat on the sidelines while the vicious uneducated right wingnuts monopolized publicity the publicity game to the point that the American people became confused about what is in their own self-interest (And also, by the way, in the country's self-interest. A healthy population makes more productive, creative workers.)
What did he do about insane drug prices? Made a deal with Pharm not to lower drug prices and now sits on the sidelines while the drug importation bill that would lower prices gets tossed overboard.
What did he do about foreclosures? Sat back and watched the human tragedy happen while he bailed out big banks.
What did he do about job creation? Gave a speech saying the private sector needed to develop jobs.
In summary, he played a bait and switch scam on the American public. He promised to be the candidate of change for all the people and became the candidate of no change toward the public but big change for the powerful money cartels in this country. Hell, he ain't Jesus. He's Judus Iscariot.

Glen   December 17th, 2009 7:33 pm ET

Why do people who are NOT African-American always say "what difference does it make what color someone is?" When their actions show and prove that it makes a BIG difference to them. "Has president Obama failed African-Americans(??)" is a legitimate question. Why? Because African-Americans played an integral part in his election. And now he owes them nothing?? I beg to differ. As everyone knows, for hundreds of years blacks have suffered unspeakable oppression and disadvantage in America. Whites like to ignore that fact and make arguments tha do not include the ugly history of racial strife in America. The fact of the matter is that whites are still treating blacks as if slavery was never abolished. Look at how they are treating Barack Obama in the media. We know he is highly educated and brilliant. He is working hard to correct the incredible mess left to him by the G.W. Bush administration. Yet, the media and many partisan whites try their best to frame him as "incompetent" or stupid. They are literally watching every step he makes; commenting on every move he makes as president. Why did they not have this kind of scrutiny for the culprit who put us in this mess in the first place.?
I think we all know why. But, the want to blame the person who is trying to clean it up (??) This makes no since at all until you factor in race. Now, I will get a barage of white bloggers who will make arguments that turn reasoning on it's head.

sheelahmpls   December 17th, 2009 7:33 pm ET

I just finished reading the preceding comments and I'm shocked at how racist they are. Somehow our culture has adopted the right wing philosophy of "get over it," "pull yourself up by your own boodstraps, etc ) This is not reality. It has been proven over and over again that the one predictor of criminality, underemployment, underachievement is

Betty Phillips   December 17th, 2009 7:35 pm ET

Of course Obama is failing the blacks, HE IS FAILING ALL AMERICANS regardless of color. People YOU MUST stop and realize that Obama has nothing in his heart but HATRED for all Americans, he has proved that over and over!!!, remember that even his wife made the statement that she never felt like an American? I still say that Obama got more from Rev. Wrights sermons (if you can call them a sermon) than he will ever declare. This is one President that even I loathe, not because he is black, because he has been so dishonest with all Americans, he only wants to be there for his radical friends, and all the Americans that voted for him just hoping he would do just one or two things he promised. Everyday another lie is disclosed from what we have been told by this president. People please realize that the statement that Obama is black, is not true. He is a MULLATO with both black and white history in his veins, he is so messed up that he can not be honest with either race. It is time to think of having the man impeached!!! WE ARE IN NEED OF A LEADER, NOT A LIAR. Betty

Jackie   December 17th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

No he's not. He's the President of the United States of America....why is there an expectation that he's going to be the "savior" of African -Americans? That's not fair to him nor is that fair to us as Americans.

sheelahmpls   December 17th, 2009 7:58 pm ET

I just finished reading the previous comments and I have been very surprised and shocked by the overt and covert racism. Somehow our culture has adopted the right wingnut explanation for society's problems. I believe this was accomplished by the previous Repugnut administrations, starting with Ronald Reagan. These Republicans justified their laissez fair policies toward the poor by using the inhuman unscientific argument of the "pull yourself up by your own bootstrap" philosophy. In this way, they could covertly suggest the selfish tax policy that alludes to the attitude of "I'm not paying for someone else's problems." Well, we can see where that has gotten us. Someone else's problems have now become almost everyone's problems.
If we had dealt with the real issue of poverty, making education more available, underemployment, real health care reform, banking regulation, we wouldn't be here now facing all these problems. As I said, Obama did promise to be Jesus Christ by portraying himself as the candidate for change and we've been had. It was a cruel bait and switch scam so that not only is the black community, who historically has been discriminated against in all those areas, but also all the shades of colors in this multi-ethnicity are suffering.
Hey, people! There is hope. Dr. Howard Dean in "2012." Let's not go for a "changeling" again. Dr. Dean will work for all of us and we're going to need it.

michael armstrong sr. TX.   December 17th, 2009 8:14 pm ET

Hell no. the African American community is failing themselves and blaiming it on some one else the white people are in as much distress as the blacks theres just more whites the blacks in America thats why the polls dont equel out.

Park K   December 17th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

Obama's policies have done more to hurt Black American than any prersident before him. Oh, by the way, he has done more to hurt the whites also than any other president before him. Just look at our debt, morals, jobs, czars, climate change rules, wasted time on health mess, and I could go on and on, but their is not enough room in my computer to hold all the detrimental decisions being made. Hope the black and white folks all survive him. Only three more years ??????

Sandra   December 17th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

This has got to be one of the dumbest articles to come along in a long while. We live in a fast food society that has lulled us into a state of "I want it now and I do not want to work hard to get it." Really, what did people expect the president to do with all of his inherited mess in a 10 month period? This economic collapse did not occur over night and it will not be solved over night. What happened to the time when people actually planned for a rainy day? We are so greedy for the bigger , better deal that we are willing to gamble everything to get it and then that is never enough. We were chunked into a war for some reason that I am still not clear about, people bought homes that they could not afford because they wanted that american dream and were willing to gamble their futures away to get it. Now we sit atop mountains of debt, both nationally and personally and we need someone to blame for our ills rather than just looking in the mirror. Obama is not failing anyone, he is attempting to lead us through this mess and set our ship on a more positive course, it may not be the course that everyone has to agree with but it has to be the one that we all should get behind. United we stand, DIVIDED WE FALL!!!!!!

Dorothy from Lonoke, Arkansas   December 17th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

The title ought to be simply, "Is Obama failing Americans?" You certainly do not have to be black to be hurting in this country. The answer? The entire government is failing Americans. The people who are supposed to be representing us do not, they represent the people who put the most money in their campaign funds and who can hire the best lobbyists. The President is run by the same people, and hasn't the nerve to come out and say enough is enough, and lead the people against those who take our jobs overseas, flood our markets with junk, bankrupt us with health care bills, let our infrastructure crumble, get us in huge debts at home and overseas, want us to bail them out but leave them in charge, and pay big bucks for ads designed to exploit our fears and concerns. The Supreme Court showed its true allegiance when it decided that if corporations or developers want our property they can take it.

rosey petals   December 17th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Danny GLover, Jesse JAckson and a few others like Larry Elder, who seems to hate everyone and old meany Michael Steele never supported the president, let's face it. Remember the profanity and ugliness Rev. Jackson expressed on national t.v. about the president during the campaign. He supported the Clintons and never got over it. The president is not GOD. Kanye West was the lone one who publicly spoke out during Katrina horrors and nothing was done Mr. Glover. The president got dumped on for every lazy, do nothing leader in the WH. The growing problems in minority communities were there long before the president took office. What about Congress, ;ocal elected bpoliticians, churches who rake in the money, and citizens. Where are the proposals to improve and resolve the conditions TODAY. Stop blaming a one-year president for all the problems, never did this before and it was just as bad, three strikes, you are out., prison overcrowding, . Where is this disappointment bcoming from. Get to work and stop grumbling, rich men? If you don't approve, don't vote for the president, get someone else. The president said it himself. He's doing his job, he inherited from an administration who didn't work as hard. One year?.

jim   December 17th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Obama is failing ALL people.

jeff   December 17th, 2009 11:08 pm ET

Expat squared it off quickly and eloquently and rose a great human question
"Did Tiger let down Golfer Americans?""

The titles agitate and put us broke $citizens at each others throats before we are even finished reading. I can`t believe it was put better than that.

Tony Humphries   December 17th, 2009 11:50 pm ET

At some point people have to wake-up. This man is not a savior of black people. He is the President of the United States, not black people.

If you wanna know who is failing black people, look no further than members of the Congressional Black Caucus. The major of their districts are the poorest, less educated, and in worst ruins than when they were elected. THOSE are the ones failing black people. Ms Waters, Mr Conyers, Ms Holmes-Norton, Mr Davis, Mr Watt, Ms Watson, Mr Conyers (yes he deserves to be called twice)!

pat davis   December 17th, 2009 11:53 pm ET

@4:10....He's the President of The United States so your half wasn't needed! Redneck....oh by the way, I'm not prejudice either!

sky   December 17th, 2009 11:58 pm ET

I personally don't know of any blacks that don't support Obama and feel that he is failing them. As a black woman I support him 100%. This reminds me of the way they treat celebrites; They build them up only to tear them down.

Debbie   December 18th, 2009 12:02 am ET

I think Obama is putting large bandaids on everything. Eventually they will fall off and the problems will have grown larger. He's trying but he is failing everyone. His ideas on healthcare were pulled out of his rear. If he gets his way, it is not going to help any of us. It will only hurt everyone. He's bailed out a lot of companies, employment hasn't increased and he failed to help bail out the people like Bush did. He doesn't have his chemistry right and until he gets it right, he is a failure to all. He has already shown the black people it's all about them with his remarks.

cardog   December 18th, 2009 12:59 am ET

Let's just say the truth. This country is so absorbed with it's image of where you stand in society based on your color/race. The question keeps being asked, when are we going to get beyond this race thing?
I'm not an expert on this subject other then living it all my life, so I will simply say this.
This generation needs to move on the scrap heap of history and let the young people coming behind us attempt to live in a world the consists of only two types of people..decent and/or indecent. White does not make right, Black does not have to get back, Brown cannot simply hang around and Red should not just be dead. These are previous racist feelings by many in this country (mostly whites) that need to also pass on into the scrap heap of history.

For those who claim not to be prejudice, why is it necessary for you to clarify that you did not vote for the President white side either?
This President may not receive more threats to his well being then other presidents, but I have to tell you, many of you and your comments have made me feel so ashame of being an American, when we all should be proud that we have moved on from your poison
minds filled with hate.
This President is an intellegent young man who has the desire to lead us all to a better life and all you hear from the right is how he is failing at this and failing at that
There is so much that needs to be said in support of this man but I came to the conclusion that we'll let the voters speak in 2010 & 2012.

Jason   December 18th, 2009 1:46 am ET

Hey this is getting out of hand the media needs to take a step back
and get back to telling us the weather and stop trying to devide us.
There is no majic fix for ower country and its gona take time to get back on track.

Rich Fuller   December 18th, 2009 2:41 am ET

I have lived overseas for 40 years, so I see things from an ex-pat perspective.

President Obama is just a product of a failed political system taken over by a corporate elite that see democracy as against their commercial interests. They want stability, no unions, and definitely no power to the people. And they haave persuaded too many Americans too despite the falling stand of living I have observed on visits over these 40 years.

The govwernment's technical ability to spy on anyone who could move the people towards change, and their military might, plus their communication skills have just alienated many, but the alienated feel helpless and hopeless. They must find fulfilment elsewhere.

The media was, as Mark Twain noted, the institution that can inform the people by shining light on these activities, but the media is distrusted by our people. It too has been subverted to commercial interests. The rare brave exposes by, say, the NY Times are greeted with yawns and even anger.

We get the government we deserve. Obama has not served the Left, but has continued to support the wishes of the Right, as that's where the money seems to be.

He is a human being, and he sees that the people do not support his previous desire for change or for a government role in infrastructure, education, health, etc., as in Europe,

He must go along with that. He wants to get re-elected more than sticking to his beliefs which, at one time, did appear to be liberal. He is very flexible, so he may survive the 2012 campaign, but the expected Congressional shift to the right in 2010 will tie his hands. He knows that already. A lame duck in his first year in office.

Will Rogers got it right when he said, "America is great not because of its government, but in spite of it." I hope I got that quote right.

But the usurpation of America by a small monied class having bought the institutions which at one time President Lincoln said should be "by the people, of the people and for the people" has destroyed the political fabric.

No matter who is president, others pull the strings. Congress and all are just puppets, funded by others, not by the people.

I'm too old to do anything or to have any influence. I'll just have to get over it and hope that the next generation will produce people who can see better than my generation.

chillo   December 18th, 2009 3:06 am ET

i didnt know that americans also think below the body has chosen to be born black or body has chosen to be born 50 years back or 10 year ago.

what i know for sure is that, hatred and stupitidy are mother and father of jeolousness.

when i read most of your comments they are so unguided.

Harrison Akadidi   December 18th, 2009 3:40 am ET

am from Nigeria...a complete african, talking about president obama, i don't think he is failing any body, but what i do think! is that, president obama is man running the country with guide lines and advice.
i know the world is expecting him to do some thing really extraordinary, but what they fail to understand is...a man in position also consult and at the same time, he works with a higher information source, that makes him take his decitions.
change takes a process...give him time speak more positive message order than "obama failing the black community"

If you have worked in a public office, you will then understand what am saying.

Priscilla   December 18th, 2009 5:18 am ET

So I will give you a stupid answer! One side of him is, and the other side of him is failing the white community! There, now his entire genetic body is failing both sides. And then we have to squeeze in the Red,yellow, and whatever shades I mised! His almost first year as our President has been a continuum of his 2 years as a Senator spending most of that time on the campaign trail running for President. Experience? Nada !
His Advisors, not the best. His schedule, global trotting apologizing to all
for "whatever" we've done politically incorrect for the last 9 years. His agenda, campaigning for 2012. He has spent more money than any other president in the short time he's been in office than the last 3 presidents have during their entire terms. On the job training is not what we needed. But it's what we're getting. Poor blacks are poorer, poor whites are poorer,(including the other shades I mentioned earlier. The only ones hitting the jackpots, are the banks, investment groups and the others who silently supported Obama financially while running for office. My social security is frozen for 3 years, while congress got 2 big raises, my foodstamps were reduced by one dollar, fromm $44/month to $43/month, while 4 tomatoes cost me $6.00 this week, but according to whoever figures what you need to eat per month apparently convinced the "powers that be" that the price of food is decreasing,so they reduced our allotment. Meanwhile,no one wants to be paid in American dollars anymore, but have chosen the Euro over our money. Businesses are still leaving the country. Unemployment rates are much higher than we are being told, because once you've collected all you can,and are dropped off the unemployment roll–you are no longer counted in that statistic!! Put all people on it without jobs or unemployment checks and the number will almost double. Get informed. Look up the stats on the Great Depression, and you'll see we have beaten every one of them, but does the government say we're in a depression? Hell no. We barely get into the class of recession according to the shell game they play on us and those too lazy to really investigate bye these lies lock, stock and barrel. Wake up America, In 2010,vote out EVERY INCUMBENT in office now and see if that will help, if not, Canada is looking better every day that rolls!!

Karen   December 18th, 2009 7:05 am ET

I absolutely concur the "Glen". This country chose to elect someone intelligent, not necessarily one that could fix the country with snap of a finger. The problems are too massive for that. It will take time to move this country in the direction that it needs to go. Meanwhile, life happens as it always has under ANY administration. I applaud Obama for giving it his all. He has been trying new avenues and having a realistic attitude towards solving situations, The attitude that I see are the naysayers that try to depict him as the only great black hope which is a farce. He is working for all Americans. But the media continually injects racism into everything. We have adults acting like fools in town meetings, where was this outrage during Bush's administration? American senators yelling out "Liar!" during formal meetings. WTF!? Disrespect is not okay. All of my life I have seen nothing but white presidents and have never stood by their motorcade with my middle finger stuck up at them! Disrespecting them like that, but why now? There is an anger permeating this country and as much as everyone denies it, I see many white people playing the blame game and for what? Obama is black and white. They will throw him under the bus because of that percentage of blackness in him. Instead of pulling for him and encouraging they try to tear him down. He's doing his job, he is not a miracle worker, but just a man trying to do what he was elected to do and for the so called disillusioned black folks what is YOUR problem? Where was YOUR outrage when Bush was tanking America? We are all in the same boat here. I don't understand why you were looking for that magic wand that was supposed to appear on January 20, 2009. Did you find it? Evidently not! Running America is a huge machine there is no instant fixes. What also galls me is the fact that the next voting cycle people are thinking about Sarah Palin? Huckabee? What a joke.

SteveT   December 18th, 2009 7:21 am ET

So what was Obama suppose to do for the Black community that he was not going to do for White, Hispanic, or Asian communities? I know the Black community is proud to have him as the first Black president of the United States, but what was he going to do for them and not everyone else? They voted for him too, or is this just another stupid question? Tell me Larry, I’m all ears.

GodsGrace   December 18th, 2009 7:59 am ET

Expat American could not have said it any better. Mr. President was not elected by one particular ethnic group simply because he promised to focus on the needs of that group; he was elected to make the best decisions for the United States of America based off the input and support of a very diverse and time-weathered Congress.

All eyes are on the United States of America, and as we prepare to enter 2011, I am willing to wager a bet that there are people of other countries shaking their heads and calling U.S. citizens the biggest hypocrites in the world. How could we speak of a "government by the people", when it is clear that people are still "judged by the color of their skin and not the content of their character."

The blacks are upset Obama not keeping his promises to them why should they be any different then the rest of us since he is not keeping his campaign promises to any other group- the only promises he and the left are keeping are to their "friends" same as every other politician has done in past only more so. Only reason this gets air time is because of articles like other day where Jackson and Sharpton ran their mouths and the papers cover it

Lisa   December 18th, 2009 9:11 am ET

"What A stupid question" this kind of bull krap is what the blacks drool over stop reporting all this nonsense.he was not put in there to favor anyone.why dont you people get A real job?and just maybe president Obama will be able to do his to the best of his ability.he never said he wanted to be president so he could give the blacks or whites an easy life that I can remember.

Greg Feustel   December 18th, 2009 9:23 am ET

If it wasn't such a sad statement on the state of our media it would be amusing, the way you try to 'stoke' the fire on the issues of race. I must say I'm proud the way the majority of people of color also took you to task on this blog. All of us are fed up with the drivel you feed us and the attempts to garner market share by creating division. There was a time when Ted Turner first 'turned on the lights' at CNN where the station actually addressed real substantive issues. You've relegated yourselves to the likes of the loud mouth, empty headed Bill O'Reilly network. Like so many others who've commented here this is the prime reason I seek my news at oultets like the BBC and NPR. Larry, time for you to return to your roots of AM radio and the like. You're no longer relevant.

ckelly   December 18th, 2009 9:37 am ET

As many have stated on the blog all ready- You asked the wrong question CNN.

" Has President Obama failed his voters?" would have been a better question.

This is a divide and distract kind of question-and a divide and distract kind of show.

I would have liked to see a show or a blog about Copenhagen and the climate treaty being negotiated. That treaty has the potential to remove national sovereign interests and move us towards a globalized government.

I am not in favor of that.

Yolanda   December 18th, 2009 9:46 am ET

"Is President Obama failing the African-American Community"? This is the most stupid question to date coming from you Larry King and CNN. It's interesting that this question was not asked when Bush (both), Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Johnson or Kennedy was president. Why not ask if these President's failed the White Community.

The question is being posed because of the recent article of the National Black Caucus who believe President Obama is not doing enough for the African-American Community. Well someone should inform the National Black Caucus that the President is elected by all ethic group and not just the African-American Community.

If race is not a big issue then, why is it continued to be present in the media when it comes to President Obama.

CNN and Larry King – maybe the question should be posed to you Larry King WERE YOU A FAILURE IN YOUR MARRIAGES?
How many times were you married EIGHT TIME TO SEVEN WOMEN. And how many went to REHAB and CHEATED ON YOU.

Shawn Engemann, Alene Akins, Annette Kaye, etal.

An on your 10th anniversay in September 2007, Southwick-King, boasted that she was "the only (wife) to have lasted into the two digits.

It's apparent President Obama has this right. Married to one well educated women – Michelle Obama and she hasn't been to Rehab.

So maybe the next question to be asked "Is Larry King A Failure With Women"?

aj   December 18th, 2009 9:59 am ET

i think this a divide kind of question, looking at obama history and legacy, he was never given a handout, he worked hard for everything he did and i think its time for the african american to beleive in themselves and overcome all thier adversities by having hope.He is not an african american president but president of the united states which comprises of every race and culture.Remember there are going to be stumbling blocks it is so easy for critics to point fingers when they are not in the position of office,i believe it is harder than we think when we are the person in office like economics human wants are insatiable, it can never be fulfilled or satisfied and you can never please anybody not even your own african american community the answer to the question is diligence, perservearance and optimism will always bring positive results by the way happy holidays....

So glad to see so many others were offended by CNN trying to create a racial divide.

@Jake - You should apply for a job with CNN. Your racist views would be welcomed. I see white people standing in food lines and losing their jobs and homes ... are they failing themselves? I see entire white countries going bankrupt ... are Blacks to blame for that as well?

Misty Yancer   December 18th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Obama has failed ALL Americans! The problem is, those who voted for him either won't admit his failure, or are too drunk on his koolaid to see it. Either way, we are in trouble!

Look.............this is a simple process.............obama is just failing all of us. How many times do I have to say that I voted for him? That said, I am so disappointed with him and the folks he has surrounding himself with that I will "NEVER" vote democrat again. What a financial mess he has us in. What a global mess he has us in. He is just too inexperienced & too immature to be the Commander In Chief & far too immature to manage a country. In short, he is just an amateur. In retrospect, what a sad day for the United States and for all Americans when obama took office.

Vicky Bevis   December 18th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Janie in Louisiana   December 18th, 2009 11:31 am ET

NO! He is not failing any particular group of Americans, as I see it. He has one enormous job. Their are many critical issues he is dealing with and they seem impossible to overcome. Could not understand how or why he and McCain wante to undertake such an insurmountable task as being President in these most trying times.

President Obama is president of the United States of America. That includes all Americans. Understandable that many are displeased because of the economic situation. Many out of jobs, etc.

However, I think the President is doing the best he can. He is constantly seeking ways to attack economic, social, military, etc. problems. God bless the President and all Americans!

Janie   December 18th, 2009 11:41 am ET

People need to stop looking for someone to fix their problems for them. You can't depend on the government, you have to change the statistics by not falling into them. Quit blaming others and change yourself, its the only way out.

belinda in jersey   December 18th, 2009 11:50 am ET

Thanks alot CNN. Why did you ask this question. Is it because you wanted to cause racial tension. Do you see all the racist comments that people are making. How terrible. Especially Betty Phillips whose comments lead me to believe she is a pure racist. These people are dangerous. I think President Obama is doing what he says he would when i voted for him. He is doing all he can to tackle several different issues at one time but yet people still say he's not doing enough. He is the President of the United States not the President for black people only. God Bless him and God Help these racists who were looking for a stage to heir their racist views which they found today on

LAWood   December 18th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

Blah, blah, blah. I'd rather watch the 3 Stooges. (or was I?) With that said, black folks will progress when our blackness is downgraded to just a color. Our humanity, our perserverence and our skills are the key. Stop complaining and DO SOMETHING! Stop looking for the "gubmint" cheese. Make your own.

Oladapo Osobamiro   December 18th, 2009 12:10 pm ET

This is a very unfortunate thought, Obama as far as any academic mind can see is not a black president, while I wont use the word racist, i'll rather say that this is a statement or thought out of lack of knowledge, and unfortunately brings us back another fifty years. Was Mandela a black president in South Africa, he was to all the President of South Africa, your blog and interview should encourage this and not lacalizing a man who against all odds became the best and he is the leader of the free world.
As far as people like me are concerned historically we black are the ones failing ourselves, please look at history, and check why after all these years and after officially been the 2nd group that arrived in America, and after the end of slave trade, arriving before the indians, chinese, and other races including people from central america, why are blacks still at the lowest economic sector. Its is time we get real, Whites did not take blacks from Africa, Blacks sold themselves into slavery although treated given to slaves was bad, blacks sold themselves.
Obama is doing his very best for a Nation and not a group

ebooggie   December 18th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

It's really funny how some people (usually non-black people) feel that race is no longer an issue in America. It's as if people think that just because some bills were signed into law that instantly took away all the hatefull feelings people had towards black people in America and therefore everyone suddenly became equal. Obama isn't the president of the Black people and the mess we're currently in didn't start on his watch. If anyone has failed Black people in America it's Black people in America. If Obama were to "dare" begin to try to address issues of just the Black community he would be a lame duck and there would probably never be another Black president for fear the he or she would help the most hated people in America, Blacks!

jcg   December 18th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

Many issues here. However, as a fundamental principle, President Obama and all politicians that promote the pro-abortion agenda in this country are failing blacks. Unborn black babies are 5 times more likely to be aborted than white unborn babies! Our black sisters who comprise 13% of the female population in the US undergo 36% of the abortions.
Almost half of all black pregrencies end in an abortion. This is not social or economic justice, but rather black infanticide. It is a catastrophe...
The target of the procedure IS a human being...a child. To argue otherwise flies in the face of logic, science and religion. Unfortunately this doesn't give the pro-abortion folks pause.
Let's take the money we spend on abortions and help these poor mothers have their babies...even if they don't wish to keep them. A loving family would adopt the vast majority.

morgan thomas   December 18th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

That guy is a failure all around. It is just now starting to sink in.

Joe Shmo from Idaho   December 18th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

It is the responsibility of the body politic to set the course of the nations future. For those of you who think Obama is “failing” the blacks or the people in general: this is Democracy folks. The idea is that every leader be the manifestation of mob rule, as Plato put it and Jefferson later reiterated. Fifty-one percent of the population needs to demonstrate enough clairvoyance to realize who they are putting into office and why. It's no secret that the nature of modern politics requires a politician to grossly exaggerate their abilities as a leader for the purpose of being elected. So one who seeks insight into the future would be wise to first examine the past. How much did you really know about Obama before voting for or against him? If you trust mainstream media to provide a balanced account of that, you are a fool. The notion that even the mighty office of the President of the United States possesses the power to execute the kind of positive change that the Obama campaign repeatedly described is absurd. It is up to each individual to understand the consequences of attempting to enact those changes. The attempt to solve race problems is beyond the scope of our President's, and for that matter, government's mandate—this is the responsibility of the individual. This would require an expansion of power that is also beyond the scope of what the constitution defines, which often creates more problems than it solves. It is also not the job of the government or society to accommodate the personal decisions of an individual(like having children). It is not the government's job to intervene when people dislike one another—even when the source is a racial divide, unless a crime is being committed. The government's job is to protect people's rights: life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. If we want to improve our standard of living, it is up to us. Read a book instead of playing a video game, watching TV or playing basketball. Learn to speak proper English. Make yourself better. The government can't and won't do that for you. People, generally speaking, often respond to and rarely question excellence. That being said, the quality of our leaders is a direct reflection of the quality of our people.

ysemann   December 18th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

What I respect about this man is that he is working his a** to do what we elected him to do. He is working to deliver on every campaign promise he made. The problem is very few people actually believed that he would actually attempt to make good on every promise. Btw, when he took over, DOW was in the high 7000s-low 8000s. It is now back over 10,000 and will be back over 11,000 soon. The most sad part of us as Americans who have health care don't want people who don't have it to get any. How can we claim to love America when we don't love AMERICANS?

Joe Poisson   December 18th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Obama is a puppet, just like all the presidents since JFK. The American way, do what we tell you or die!!!

Tim Harris   December 18th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Black folk realize that the man is POTUS. We don't expect any more or less than we would for anybody else in the office. This is a piece of **** for discussion. We have a congress that is failing us in our face and acting as if they are being responsible. We have a banking and financial system that should be leading the country out of the current crisis protecting there own.
CNN is buying into all of this crap and not addressing the critical issues of the country. You are a pathetic bunch of people.

David   December 18th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

What is obvious to me by reading these posts, is that the black people posting to this blog, are educated and know that they can't look to somebody else to get them ahead. They know it is up to them to get ahead in life. Also, why is the term "African American" used? Be happy as just an American please, I am. The only African Americans, are people born in Africa and then become American citizens. If you are proud of your African heritage, please tell me what African country you are from. Then we can explore what you are proud of.

Ben   December 18th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

I agree, this is a non story! Obama has failed all Americans regardless of race or gender. Move on to something of importance like the decline of our nation and the sadness we adults should have for our childern and grandchildren. We could apologize, but that would ring rather hollow wouldn't it in view of how quickly we took her to her knees and how we squandered the legacy left us by our parents and grandparents.

Huh?! Did you really just ask a question that ignorant? Let's get something straight CNN, President Obama is Neither Black nor is he White. He's a person of color and has nothing to be ashamed of to be sure. But why would you try to inject race into any discussion with a boneheaded question like that. God, the media gets more ignorant everyday!

Jarod in San Diego   December 18th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

I wish you all would just shut up with the "I did it on my own crap!" None of you did it on your own. You had the benefit of being white. But Obama does not owe any single group in America a thing. He's the President of the people of America. All races need a leg up in society and all should try to do something greater than themselves regardless of the obstacles before you. Like Nike says, "Just do it!"

Vi   December 18th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

John   December 18th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Obama is failing mankind and he has a few key agenda items – 1. To bring down the total social and economic collapse of the United States and 2. To set the accord for the Temple Mount and give Jerusalem to the Muslims. He is doing fantastic on goal #1 and is working hard behind closed doors on goal #2. It is the very code of the Islamic religion to outright lie to the Infidels. You and I will be lied to as Americans until there is no more America left as we know it today. WAKE UP AMERICA, STOP SLEEPING AT THE WHEEL! When you are buy a loaf of bread in the near future for $8.00, then and maybe then you will have your epiphany.

The more I read this kind of stuff from the MSM, the more I'm reminded that William Randolph Hearst was "willing by deliberate and shameful lies, made out of whole cloth, to stir nations to enmity and drive them to murderous war," simply so he could sell more newspapers.

With the MSM, it's all about the bottom-line, folks. Humdrum reality need not apply.

Jennifer Scott   December 18th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

I think it;s so sad that this question was even asked, because it implies that blacks still need someone to save them. I feel that if blacks take responsibility for thier community, and future blacks can save themselves. Yes there has been unfair distribution peices of the pie handed out out, but what happened to working hard and keeping your "eye on the prize". Blacks are the only minority that don't work together. President Obama is the president of the United States not the black people. He needs room to fix the mess this country is in and then, he can focus on the problems of all minority groups in America. It is called UNITED States, we as Americans need to really focus on this word, it will make us a stronger country.

Garth   December 18th, 2009 5:43 pm ET

I'm a little surprised that so many think this is not a valid question. You cant obliterate over 4 centuries of history and the fact that SLAVERY (is it O.K. to say that? or do I need to call it "The S-word" now) still cast its ugly shadow today. I'm sure that President Obama means well, but we've had 43 prior representatives who couldn't seem to find time on their To-Do Lists to SERIOUSLY address the race issue. Its not unreasonable to expect a person of color to finally make this a priority.

rhaz   December 18th, 2009 6:34 pm ET

Are you serious... the man found this country in a mess . Who comes into the roll as President with experience? He hasn't been in this job a year yet... and you're blaming him for this countries situations. I'm sure he didn't know this country's was such a mess.
The man has alot on his plate. He can't get to his agenda, his promises; because congress has his hands tied. Afghanistan fell in his lap.
Let America down?...please ... Americans has let this country down...with allowing our past Presidents to screw us.... They did not have our interest at let's blame our trials and tribulations on Obama.

aj   December 18th, 2009 6:56 pm ET

Colorblind racism is an overt means of racial ideology that disagrees with the notion that racial inequality no longer exist. Obama did not cause the equality the white elite did. So why hold someone accountable for something he did not commit. The question first is derogatory. Did bush fail the white people? The notion that inequality did not exist is all a fallacy, history indicates that African Americans were oppressed and derived basic amenities that were available to white folks, when the constitution was written blacks were not part of it, As W.E.B Dubois puts it, Racial stratification is always hierarchical, thus the race attributed with the superior position enjoys social, political, economic, and psychological advantages over the group or groups ascribed with inferior positions, I guess we all know the answer to that phrase. Well let’s put it these way, the race that were most superior in the 21st history were African americans, it is a psychological ideology, You look up to the commander in chief you feel superior and that is all there is to it....well will there be laws to end inequality among African Americans and other minority, I guess the democrats have enough vote to pass those laws, anyway you be the judge.....

jacq   December 18th, 2009 7:13 pm ET

I think he's doing a great job.I'm black and I wouldn't have voted for him if he wanted to to push a black American agenda.I voted for him because he wanted to be the President for everyone.

What type of question is this!? Why would you have this as a blog topic!? Why?hmm...

Catchyname   December 18th, 2009 8:12 pm ET

I would say he's failing all Americans judging by the polls.

Whether he's failing the African-American community, I wasn't aware he was elected to pursue their interests.

Jon   December 18th, 2009 8:20 pm ET

I think that the President is actively trying his best – not just for the black community, but for America as a whole. Maybe that's the best that we get in times like these.

And please don't beat on the whole experience thing, Republicans. If McCain had been elected, the challenges he would have had to face would have killed him. And that leaves Palin in charge – wonder if she would have walked away in the middle of the Presidency too?

dennis pence   December 18th, 2009 8:39 pm ET

Obama failed the black people. HE FAILED everyone! However, his intention was not to do anything for, but as much to, Americans as he could in his 4 short years. Maybe 2 if the 2010 elections go as we think. He wants a name for himself and his place in the history books.

He was a community organizer and now he thinks he can organize the world. Personally, I don't think he could organize a file drawer. Well intentioned? – Maybe, but I seriously doubt it. The sooner he fades into the sunset and becomes a bad memory – the better off this country will be. He's like a bad flu – we just have to survive him.

aj   December 18th, 2009 8:42 pm ET

I just watched the show and i found out Rev Al sharpton just gave a fundamental answer to this problem. In other to understand the setbacks of african americans they were discriminatory laws that prohibited them from advancement either directly or indirectly in all works of life. Obama attacked the root of the problem by electing Eric Holder first african american Attorney General to combat the bias laws for equal justice under the law.God bless Al sharpton,Eric Holder and of course the commander in chief for addressing this problems. I am not bias neither am i skewed to the left or right i am not a conservative but history and attitudes dictates these people of minority predominantly african americans and other minorities have been equivocally denied equal access the facts are vivid and making specific qrguments will be a waste of time, To end this forum Nobody has the right to blame Obama he didnt create the problem but tried to alleviate it, if you need an answer to your problem go and get a good education and maybe you can give back to your people and stop being a Jimmy gimme kind of person.

Simone   December 18th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

I just want to remind everyone that Obama has yet to even finish 1 year of his 4 year term. He inherited a mess that took 8 years build, and he is not just Black.

Brenda Stout   December 18th, 2009 10:33 pm ET

Hello Everyone! He is failing all AMERICANS–Society placed the labels on its American Citizens every form we fill out ask your nationality. Why is that question even there we were all born in the United States, Not Africa, Asia, Europe, Sweden or other countries. The thought of African-American, Asia-American, Euro-American. WE ALL ARE JUST PLAIN AMERICAN CITIZENS. Also, believe it is time for new parties. Democrat or Republicans have ran there course.

Mike   December 18th, 2009 11:01 pm ET

When our government becomes "a government of the people, by the people, and for the people", we will stand a chance of electing leaders that aren't already "bought and sold" before they're elected. How can any one man if he truly wants to do good be enabled in a government that is controlled by corporations, banks, big money interests and their lobbyists. Our system of govenment must be transformed first before we can expect any better results. Thomas Jefferson had it right when he penned our Declaration of Independence. Perhaps we need to all revisit that document and be mindful of its wording!

Helene   December 19th, 2009 12:18 am ET

I only comment on the Title "Obama failing the african-american community"... 1st, he is only 1/2 black....2nd, prior President have been failing White-american for decades...

Mike   December 19th, 2009 1:13 am ET

I just want to state that my previous comment also refers to the topic, "Obama failing the African-American community" in that how can any President fail a failed system. Until we're ready to revamp our political system and make it truly representative of our people (all of our people); we can't really consider one individual's efforts as a failing African- Americans, or as I'd prefer to say all Americans! We're all in this boat together folks!

pat davis   December 19th, 2009 2:10 am ET

I find it funny the blacks have been narrowed down to a community, not a population! As if they all live in one confined little area!

Mike   December 19th, 2009 2:43 am ET

Community labels vs. population labels, let's get over discrimination. I'm a caucausian American citizen, and I hate discrimination. Let"s start treating every American citizen as equals. Isn't that what our country's beliefs are contained in our country's founding documents! We need to join together to solve this country's problems.

V. Clausewitz   December 19th, 2009 5:32 am ET

The more pertinent question would be: "Is mainstream media failing the American Community?"

R J   December 19th, 2009 6:22 am ET

Obama, has not had enough experience to preside over the executive branch as yet. Why he was pushed up so fast, seems to be people looking for a phenomenon, and slogans. But , the presidency has been more about show business than the peoples business for quite a while-so they fit the image required.
Have we been in a military dictatorship since November 22, 1963 ?

NEPhillyGuy   December 19th, 2009 7:17 am ET

Anthony J Pacicca   December 19th, 2009 9:54 am ET

SRR   December 19th, 2009 10:16 am ET

The post-racial pipe dream, exposed yet again. Sadly, this headline merely echoes the gut feelings of many citizens. It's asked by many, suspected by many. The question is obvious and valid, to a point. The two-party system is split pretty firmly on racial lines, unfortunately. Why that is would be a mystery to me ... the religiosity of so many minorities might logically place them in the Republican values camp. Yet when push comes to shove, more minorities feel the liberals will be more sympathetic and perpetuate the victim-and-reparations mentality. So when reality hit Bam square in the face, darn straight many people's bubbles have been burst.

The Real Issue   December 19th, 2009 10:52 am ET

My Fellow Americans:

The Real Issue is not Black, Brown or White. It's green!! Green for money, jobs and energy. The President is working for all Americans. When not if he fixes the economy everyone will benefit. The signs are there. Please note: Stock Market improvement from 6000 to mid-$10000; home buyers can purchase homes at bargain rates if they can buy; foreclosures are reduced; unemployment has dropped significantly and in a few months there will be many more hired than fired; Iraq situation is under control with less troops; the Afghan situation is going to be settled with a sound strategy; the negotiations at Copenhagen is a great 1st step towards climate change strategies; the clunker auto program was a huge success; the homebuyer rebates stimulated housing sales; the appliance and weatherization credits will be huge successes; the Health Care Bill program will not only care for 35 Million citizens but will create addition jobs in nursing and other health professions, technicians, administrative assistants, construction workers who will need to build new clinics etc. Americans this president has and will do more within his 1st two years of office to restore the economy than the previous administration ever did. Give it some time, it's around the corner!!

dudespeaks   December 19th, 2009 11:09 am ET

He is failing me. I voted for the guy in 2008 for his promises concerning an Iraqi pull-out plan that was much shorter than McCain's; however, I have not yet seen it implemented to the degree he promised. He hardly talks about Iraq or flies out there to visit the troops still there. I feel my vote was practically "stolen" from me by an 18 month lie, as his current pull-out looks no different than McCain's, and I will probably not vote for this man in 2012.

Additionally, I was laid off in fall of 2008, right after I voted for him. Instead of always propounding "jobs for Americans", which I feel he should be doing, he is instead obsessed about this health care plan.
Wasn't Social Security going to go bankrupt in like 15 years? How can we think of pursuing this program if we have not yet reached solvency for Social Security Lol? So now Great! If I break my leg I can get help. Maybe too while I am out of work and my UE runs out and I am starving to death, I can check-in for "debilitating stomach ulcers".

james   December 19th, 2009 12:08 pm ET

so, he's not just failing black americans, but all americans, right?

texas Demo   December 19th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I'm black and I am here to tell you that President Obama is serving all Americans. We are very lucky we are not in a deep depression. If the republicans had there way all the banks would have failed. The president has indirectly helped all of us. We must wait until the most
urgent issues are put to rest. Yes, the black issues are important just as the brown, white, green etc;,. So let's step back and let the urgent
issues be solved first. We vote the president in to do a certain job, so
shut up , sit back and watch just how difficult that is with the party
of NO trying to gain control.

James C. Taliaferro, M.S., QMHP   December 19th, 2009 1:10 pm ET

No. That is not a fair statement 1 year in a mess that was here LONG before he was. NO!

K Brown   December 19th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

I believe that this topic discussed is very ignorant because President Obama is not presuming a position as a Civil Rights Activist..but as the President of the United States Of America.. His position was accompanied by years of failed policies of the United States government (like several previous Presidents)....therefore, I do not believe that one person can be blamed for an entire nation's mishaps. This is not a fully African American nation, America is a melting pot. Therefore, actions taken by the government should not solely affect African Americans all of a sudden. And all African Americans do not view America, obama, or the government the same way. NOW all of a sudden the views of African American citizens on American government is highly considered.....Obama is not the 1st President of America.

The Veteran   December 19th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

@R J: What?!?!? He has leadership. Keep running your mouth, while health care will be passed (A monumental First!!), the TARP money refunded, the economy turns around, the deficit goes down, and we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq. All of that is done through LEADERSHIP. Obviously, you don't know that that is.

He's going to sneak up on you clowns. You're going to spend so much of your energy with blind hate that you are not going to see the progress. But in the end, the truth will speak for itself.

All of that will result in a second term.

TexasRay   December 19th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

To A. Smith:

Your comment is very close to home but you forgot one point, for some reason the blacks qualify for benifits when the whites don't.
In example – My wife died and left me with a young child, I sought help with daycare and was told I didn't qualify, and then the lady said to me IF I were female or black thhey could give me some assistance! Now this happened in the late 80's but it is still a clear example of how thing have turned to where reverse discrimination is actually our biggest problem. How can we justify giving health care to 30 million by taking it away from 270 million? I say end all assistance for everyone (federal) and make the states foot the bill. It's crazy the way things are done, Work for 6 years @ 60K and get laid off and you qualify for $270 in benefits? but if you don't work at all you can get free housing AND draw $450 in food stamps + free health care. why should I get a job!

PK California   December 19th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Blacks should not expect favoritism, just because our president is black. I believe he is for ALL Americans!

Mark Scott   December 19th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Well Hellio, "Americans seem to be failing Americans". What we need to do is stop complaining about every little thing that happens, stop complaining about the economy, stop complaining about unemployment just stop complainig. What we need to do is be more responsible and prepare ourselves for these hard times like the people that represent us. They act like they care and I am sure some of them do but he rest don't really care if you live or die. Looks like all of them have their own agenda. There seems to be plenty of careers out here we just need to again "prepare ourselves for them." I hope I have not hit a nerve for some of you but this is the truth. I wish you all well and I hope we can all just get along.

David in NN, VA   December 19th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

jesse   December 19th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

Oh for goodness sakes, what is President Obama supposed to do for blacks... He was elected to govern for ALL races.. There are no select races that should have any special treatment from the President, just because they happen to be the same color of skin as they are..What next I wonder..

chris   December 19th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

Wow.... some of these comments are ridiculous...Obama has Hatred for all americans? How do you come up with that one? you can disagree with the man on some issues in fact you can choose to disagree with him on all of the issues but seriously some people need to grow up attack his ideas if you have a problem with it... not him. To answer the question posed by Larry KIng. The answer is no though i will admit this is an odd question to ask. He's the leader of all of us there's alot on his plate and he has to do alot of repair for this country that has gone through so much trouble over the last decade.

tcootre   December 19th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

president has failed to even make some black issues a priority, namely the umemployment rate for black americans and the reason for this high rate. president has failed our country on health care reform. i am confident president and democrats will fail us again when they pass some sort of amnesty for illegal aliens. sad fact is so many african americans voted for him because he was black. our president refused to us because we are black.

Chinedu   December 19th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

I respect Larry King, but I think he is stupid on this one. Why must it be black? Is Obama the President of Black People or the President of U.S.A.

Soldier Girl   December 19th, 2009 11:17 pm ET

I am a soldier. I have served multiple tours to Iraq and my husband and I are leaving to go to Afghanistan right after Christmas. My question is why can't we find common ground as Americans??? Ever since I could vote I voted for who I thought would do the best job. Up to this point guess what? They were White candidates. Some did a great job, some not so great. When I voted for President Obama, it was because I believed he was the best candidate. I am proud to pack my bags and support my Commander in Chief. He actually took time to analyze whether or not it would be feasible to use military force in the continued campaigns versus viewing me as a pawn on a chess board with no face, pending dangers, or home life. I wish I could leave American soil knowing that Americans were growing closer as a country versus the racism that is all too common place still abounding. When will we realize that we have it so much better than others yet we bicker about stuff that is rediculous! Republicans hoping for President Obama to fail and Democrats hoping he can fix all of our problems within 1 to 2 years. He is definitely between a rock and a hard place. If everyone was doing their part in helping to fix the problems in our country instead of sitting around on their computers jaw jacking about it we would see the change we are looking for. Most soldiers dont say much but there is my two cents....

jennifer   December 20th, 2009 1:07 am ET

My ancestors have so many horror stories. Want to compare? I come from a long line of church poor people, some homeless today. We just took in a homeless young man who can't get a job and has no family.
My son got 100% on a civil service test and couldn't get an interview.
He deserves college and you wouldn't believe what I had to do to make that happen because his mind is a horrible thing to waste. When will any president help poor whites?

Randall   December 20th, 2009 1:31 am ET

At some point the black community will have to take responsibility for itself.

Ronay Hunter-Bracey   December 20th, 2009 2:22 am ET

Is Obama failing the African-American Communities? What a foolish question. Why are we so set on blaming someone for what we don't have? As an African-American (Black and proud) women soon will be 62 years of age, worked hard to become an educator with a masters degree plus 30 hours, taught for 33 years, still sub, and continuing to keep myself educated... yes, again, it was hard, but I did it with the help of family and friends. Did the presidents during that period give me something? No! What our African-American law makers need to do is spend their time in the communities and communicate with the all ethnic backgrounds. What do you want this Hard working President to do? He is giving ALL Americans the very best that he can. He is only one man. We all need to stop complaining and get out and help. Those of you who are elected to serve....what are you doing? Give Our President of ALL the people of the USA positive support. PS. My wish for the new year is that CNN and all the other news network ...go find something else to discuss. One group of citizen shouldn't think they are speaking for all people like them. What are we doing to help ourselves and others. If their are mistakes in the paragraph blame my age!!!!!!!!

Jackie   December 20th, 2009 2:26 am ET

A President should look at all Americans as one. Just because he is our first African American President focus shouldn't be made on if he's failing African Americans. It should be focused on in what ways is he failing Americans of all races.

Captain Ginyu   December 20th, 2009 3:36 am ET

If he is failing black americans then he is failing all americans. If he not failing black americans then he is not failing all americans. One cannot succeed without the other. By the way, saying your race after you comment doesn't really mean anything but it sounds quite funny if you spent your comment talking about how race doesn't matter.

Charles Kaross   December 20th, 2009 7:46 am ET

Larry King is failing the American public by making nonsense such as this a topic of discussion.

This type of journalism does not enlighten, or draw attention
to a matter of legitimate concern, but rather serves to reinforce the view of those who believe that the government is their keeper.

dollor bil   December 20th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Larry Larry Larry Obama was elected on the backs of blacks and other low income americans with promises of more stimulus money a$1000 per person. Did he deleiver no he didn't. He was going to make sure that every american black or all the colors of the rainbow he medical coverage. He said there was no reason an american citizen should not be able to get medical treatment has he done that not no but hell no. He was going to shore up the banks and financial markets plus end the greed on wall street. he was going to fix the medical industry with electronic medical records no to that. So has he failed the black folk yes but he has failed all americans making less than $50,000 a year. He is now a puppet for all the businesses he was going to change. he said yes we can well business said no you ain't and by god he didn't.

JohnF   December 20th, 2009 10:24 am ET

President Obama is not the commander-in-chief for ALL Americans regardless of their skin color, race, religion, etc. He is the commander-in-chief for the miltary only , for the rest of us he is our senior elected official. His role is to be a leader, but we do not have to follow him, the military does. We vote for him, he works for us, hopefully, for all of us. If he was our commander in chief that would make this a dictatorship!

Walter Bellehaven   December 20th, 2009 10:54 am ET

This question is silly and kind of racist.

The question really should be "Is he failing the American people?".

And the answer is: Heck yes!!!!

It's amazing how almost every campaign promise he made has already been broken, and he has not been in office for a full year yet!!!! The arrogance of the Democrats!!!

Donna64   December 20th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Everything regarding our president seems to always focus on HIS race.
If he failed and I mean IF he failed...he would fail all of us! I am so tired of the networks using race to fuel fires. It's a disgrace that our country has not healed and that racism is still alive and well. Bush sent our children into war for personal reasons. We spread this lie that we are so together and everybody should be like America, yet all Americans will NOT even support our president. I had to support George Bush and never did we threaten, use the race card, allow guns at his rallies, call him racist names because if we did you can bet your bottom dollar that the Secret Service and everybody else would have had up locked up. George W Bush did what he could to destroy this country and a BLACK president, our President is doing everything to reverse 8 yrs. of his mess.

Rozelle   December 20th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Well now, it's very interesting that certain constituents at CNN would use such a title to stir the pot, given the current economic and social climate.

First, the title is a red-herring meant to divert the attention of the masses to the obvious attack on Obama's national leadership competency and the dreaded and hated issue of race relations (whatever that term means).

I imagine that Obama can't get a fair shake of the stick from either race right now, Black or White. It's hard for people ,now, to be truthful when they've been courted with "patented lies" the last eight years. People have blamed and continue to blame the commander and chief for their plight. Only, the rightful blamee is back at his Texas cotton patch, and the current CC is vicariously receiving the brunt of the blows unjustly. It will take Obama a term and a half to undue the mess that he has inherited from his predecessor, and then maybe he can do something for the American people, particularly African Americans.

Yes, African American, you heard correctly! Sure, it's the president's job to lead the American people. Additionally, it's a presidents job to eradicate injustices in the scope of his jurisdiction as much as humanly possible. And being that Obama happens to be Black, and yes he is Black, the African American community takes pride in, finally, having faith that the ongoing issue of racism and prejudice treatment will be addressed. Many want to sweep this issue under a rug like it does not exist by saying watered down statements like: "when will people let the past be the past...let it stay in history." The problem with that is: History never dies. It lives; it influences; it teaches; it repeats!

Anyone who has read T. W. Allen's "Invention of the White Race," knows that imperialistic, capitalistic, and racist white America is a mind set. No one is born this way. It's learned behavior, and the U.S. climate is conducive to perpetuating this ideology and idea. So when one says that it's not a president's job to combat such wretched behavior, tell them you ignorant, uninformed, and illogical liar, sure it is!

Nancy   December 20th, 2009 11:53 am ET

To my knowledge, it is not Black Amercia that is complaining about any and everything President Obama has tried to accomplish. It's a good deal of White America that's doing that, so don't try to put the complaints on Blacks. We understand his enormous tasks in the wake of mistakes that have been made by White presidents, particularly Bush. He does not have a magic wand to wave and clean it all up – it takes time and I and most other African American are willing to give him that time. The many message boards I have read indicates that White America is not willing to do that. Get the story right! God Bless and be with President Obama and this Country.

dblock   December 20th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

larry why cant we all get along, though this is a stupid and divide question, while laary is out of agenda and trying to stir things up and is usually does. Remember once upon a time we were all africans, history and the bible, genetics tells us white europeans hailed from egypt, out of poverty and desperation for lack of food and resources the black people gave thier own people out for slavery in part. Nobody is perfect but what i do know is we must all come together support the president and act as one happy family towards equalit, unity and prosperity so help us God.By the way larry if you dont have something better to say do reruns of your old shows...

dj   December 20th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

I agree with a lot of the comments. Obama has shown that color alone cannot be a dividing line. If you are black you have the same right to opportunity as anyone else in America.. but you have to work hard whether you are red, white, black, or whatever.

mitzie - GA   December 20th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

How ridiculous is this question? I can certainly understand that black Americans felt the world would change the minute an Aftrican American was elected President. However, this President walked into two wars, the worst recession since The Great Depression, a time when most of the world distrusts the U.S., and the incredible impact of global warming on our world. Thank God we have a leader who understands that we are all human beings not just African Americans or just Americans for that matter. The world is intertwined as never before and we must get beyond our labels. We must become more sophisticated and think less about how everything affects "me" and start becoming a part of the world. I am so sick of "Republicans" vs "Democrats". We are people first, not political entities. It is a joke that we somehow believe that all Republicans or all Democrats are stupid or ill informed. The vast majority of us do not have the knowledge we need to make any assumptions. We simply go with our gut. We need to get a grip and learn before we gripe.

Obama's Mom was white, his Dad was black. Maybe that is why he is failing ALL AMERICANS??????

Oliver   December 20th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

How is President Obama FAILING the American people? Is he failing the people by working to reconstruct the breakdowns of George W.Bush's failures? Are you implying the Dubya's policies helped the American people? You have to be absolutely out of your mind to think that fixing the issues that he was presented coming into the presidency would just all of a sudden disappear overnight. The economy is making strides for the better which will intern show help in the job catagories being that job numbers are generally staggered by 6 mos. to a year. He is actually sending troops to Afghanistan to eliminate Alqaeda thats what Bush should have done but he was to interested in vengeful family business with Hussien. The 65 million dollars lost from education was money that was majoritywise funding Bush's failed "No child left behind" program. So tell me why is Americans so critical on President Obama? Is it because he's black that we have to put so much more pressure on him? As I recall he wasn't dealt a hand of ace's.

commonsense   December 20th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

What a crazy question. Nonsense .. did George Bush fail whites? Or any other Anglo-American president for that matter? Did any of them fail whites? And since when did a president of these United States swear on oath that they would serve a particular race/color of people only ... and swear on God's Word their oaths? If that is going to the opinion of the people in the United States, then there should be two different elections, with two different presidents ... one for the white folk (so they can either approve or disapprove of their service) and one for the black folk (who perhaps at last will be considered when it comes to policies and politics). No the bigger question is whether or not this country is willing to work with its elected president for the good of the country ... whether white or black.

Not Impressed   December 20th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Three more years of this president and we will be a socialist country. The current administration will owe an apology to each individual who fought and died for this country's freedom. Oh yeah, Michele should be arrested for defacing the White House Christmas ornaments that had been collected since before the Lincoln administration. The woman has no class.

I guess it's OK for Larry and/or Rick to ask stupid questions at times.
Rick's bias towards the handling of illegals by the sheriff in Arizona and now Larry asking a question so stupid it blows my mind.
President Obama was elected by a 53% majority and that majority included all races, all religions but most of all a majority of smart people who are looking for a better life, that by the way will take time.
President Obama is not in office due to Black support nor is he in office to cater to only blacks to the exclusion of others, no matter who they are.
Let this man be President without all of the old sterotypes. Thanks

TRB   December 20th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

wow... where to even start? So I won't...
Only to say I am as happy as day 1. President Obama is still everything I voted for!! Everyone knows everything isn't going to be fixed overnight. Thanks to the Bush houses, a 4 year term alone isn't going to suffice!

dollor bill – Larry Larry Larry Obama was elected on the backs of blacks and other low income americans with promises of more stimulus money a$1000 per person.

I know we are a democracy, but my point of becoming informed as citizens was exemplified in the above statement. A person who knows not what he speaks has expressed him/herself.

William J. Clinton   December 20th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

Many of the posts here reveal why it is so difficult for President Obama to address issues that disproportionately affect the Black community. He has to walk a tightrope that few presidents have ever been challenged with: avoiding the appearance that he is favoring his own ethnic community over others and at the same time avoiding the appearance that he is not doing enough. Often times in politics success has to be tempered by the maxim: Alone we go fast, together we go far. The President is looking at a long term vision, and seeking to build a bipartisan coalition to get us there. We need to remember that what makes America great is our desire to include everyone in the process of change. To the extent that we are able to do that we will continue to be a shining light in a word torn apart by sectarian and tribal self-interests. For the sake of the world and future generations we must continue to strive for those ideals which have made us great, not to mention the most prosperous nation in history.

Praveen in Chicago   December 20th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

I do agree with one thing. That after becoming President, the CHANGE word. I guess he changed himself. I was hoping that he would create a sense of direction for the country.

Nigel P.G. Baldwin   December 20th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Everyone can not have everything, it is just a fact of life. And if everyone wants everything we may all pay the price in the end. But again, if less than half of us do not succeed here and now or down the road we will all pay the price as well. Even if I can avoid it now I am sure, at some point in time, that I will feel it or someone that can impact my immediate proximity will and that will in turn impact myself.

Best Regards,

Nigel P.G. Baldwin

Oh here we go with the color thing. Was our president supposed to take care of black folks only? Are there not my other races of folks who need assistance? They are called Americans from what I understand and they come in all colors!! And yes I am African American but the president shouldnt focus on just one race but the american people.

Downhearted   December 20th, 2009 6:29 pm ET

I feel that President O'Bama is not doing what he said he was going to do. He stated that each day he would read some of the letters that he received at the White House. If that is so, why didn't he respond to mine. I wrote him three letters and sent two emails through the White House email. I wrote him the first letter prior to his becoming President. I sent it to one of his offices and got a response saying that the letter was sent to a congressman person in my home town, as they are to support their own constiuants. I wrote a second letter and mailed it certified with a return receipt to the White House just after O'Bama had been named President. In the letter, I told him about how OPM cheated me out of my husband's pension and that I am disabled and struggling to keep my home. If I was receiving the pension I would not have been struggling. I was talked to so nasty by employees at OPM; one man told me "if I had anything to say about it, you would not receive it anyway." How is that to talk to someone who is grieving for her husband and at the same time worried about how the bills will be paid?

Everything had been done correctly for me to obtain the pension. My husband made sure everything was taken care of the first week we were married. He did not want to wait, I guess in fear that something could happen. I was given about 10-12 different reasons why I would not get the pension, none of them making any sense. I was even told that I would receive it if I first paid them $13,000, which they did not believe I had. I told them I had the money because of the insurance policies from my husband, then I was told I did not need to pay the money, but would not receive the pension anyway.

I talked to so many different people in government about this, begging for help in getting the pension. Each time I was told that OPM did an investigation and would not change their decision. How can any company investigate themselves? At the post office where my husband had worked, I was told that I was not the only case, that this was happening a lot. Black people are poor enough; living from paycheck to paycheck and still sometimes cannot make ends meet. I feel this is something the President should have taken time to investigate. I know there was nothing wrong with my husband's application. One problem was that my husband had been married twice previous to our marriage. One of his son's from his first marriage asked about the pension while we were in a meeting at the post office regarding the life insurance. He was told that his mother could not receive the pension because it was stated in their divorce decree that she would not get it. This son called OPM in Washington and called there repeatedly (I was told by one of the employees there) telling them that my husband was planning on leaving me, he was going to divorce me, and he did not want me to have the pension. He told them that his dad was planning on remarrying his mother and he wanted her to have the pension. This was all a lie. But, even if it were so, he was still married to me and still living with me and he had not change the papers regarding the pension. Fact is, no one had any right to talk to his son regarding this matter. My cell phone was in my husband's name and if he asked me to call and talk with them regarding the bill, I was told they could not talk with me, evening being his wife. So, why would these government people talk to his son regarding such a private matter? And, most of all, why didn't President O'Bama answer one of the three letters and two emails that I wrote to him?

Everyone I talk to is so disappointed with him. One of contestants may be correct; maybe we as black people did expect too much from him. But, considering the fact that because all of the black people voted for him, he became President. If it were not for us, he would not have won.

He kept talking about what he would do for the middle-class, so we naturally thought some of what he did for them would trickle on down and benefit the rest of us. No, we are in worse shape than we have ever been in history. People keep saying it is not his fault, that Bush put us here. I still believe there are some things that O'Bama could do to make things better for the black people, but not only black, but for all poor people.

In all of his speeches prior to becoming President, he mentioned the fact that he was an organizer and what he had done for the poor in the past. This is what most of us were going by. It is not so much as him doing something special for blacks, but he needs to do something for the poor people, which includes blacks, whites, Spanish, Africans, Chinese, Japanese, and others.

But, in the case of Chinese and Japanese, they can come to America and get loans to open businesses no matter what kind of credit they had where they came from; but can come here and get a loan for school, for businesses or whatever. I could have had a very successful business but could not get a loan. I did make it work for a few years with help of my mother and a friend getting equipment that I needed on credit. People talk about America the free, America is not fair!!!

I was done wrong by the government, by my mortgage company (preditory lending and caused me to lose my income), and by others.

I am mad as hell, because I had never voted in my life prior to this last election. I truly believed O'Bama would help the poor. But, instead of helping us, he is putting us in a worse condition.

Pedro Ortiz   December 20th, 2009 6:40 pm ET

No matter if it is Obama, Leroy or whoever the president is, we are in a downfall which will not stop until we cut some of the fat in Capitol Hill. Some of our senators make over $150K or more for doing nothing, just wearing a suits and going against the current, making it harder for our commander in chief to make things happen.

Black Bolt   December 20th, 2009 9:24 pm ET

This just goes to show how the media, in this case CNN, has created a controversy when there is none. President Obama is doing exactly what he said he would do. Even in economic boom times, no President has a 100% success rate. In this unusual recession, I think it is phenomenal he has done as well as he has. With respect of the racial angle, America has a horrible history of racism, white supremacy, oppression, slavery, segregation, you name it. It's all true, and it is not ancient history. And such racist attitudes prevail to this moment against people of color. Obama is in office because of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all the other civil rights greats, and the protest movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. He would not have been elected President had the civil rights movement not occurred. With respect to what the President has done that will directly undo the injustices against black citizens, I can think of two: 1. the appointment of Eric Holder as A.G., 2. pumping billions of dollars into the the nation's community colleges. Mr. Holder will defend our civil rights in all dimensions of American life. Empowering community colleges will link disaffected black youth to jobs and higher education.

Sean   December 21st, 2009 12:48 am ET

I agree Obama is expected to serve all Americans. However, he does provide a positive role model to many African Americans that there is hope yet in this country for them. But beyond that, it's up to African Americans to translate that to . Clearly there are issues which all Americans face – the education rate must go up, the homicide and incarceration rate must go down, single family homes etc These issues hard hit the African American community particularly.
Obama has spoken frankly about this – perhaps more than any other African American leader to date. I will give him credit for that.

Scott   December 21st, 2009 1:00 am ET

Obama and Bush have both failed the American people along with their respective Democratic and Republican Congressman and Senators. They have failed because they have mismanaged the economy to satisfy the lobyists who support them. The Democrats are willing to pass virtually any socil legislation that supports their liberal causes and expands their base and the republicans are willing to support or defeat any legislation that doesn't produce bigger business profits. Almost invariably middle Americans of all ethnicities are the ultimate losers.

Obviously in these difficult economic times jobs are scarce. Businesses have cut costs by exporting all the jobs they could by getting manufacturing done abroad and they have fought to keep the flow of both legal and illegal immigrants flowing into the country to reduce labor costs. The Democrats, including Obama, are fighting to expand their voter base by grant citizenship to illegal immigrants and to cement their support by redistributing the wealth to the poor and lower middle class. With over 10 million mostly unskilled illegal immigrants living here, the impact on poor Americans is devastating. It floods the unskilled labor supply and demand wage dynamic. The net effect is that Americans of all ethnic backgrounds are going to have to compete for scarce jobs at second world wages. An example of this is the the Swift meat packers who had been getting $19/hour. When Swift was raided by ICE, hundreds of employees were determined to be working illegally and the meatpackers were getting $12/ hour.

We do not elect white or black or brown presidents in this country and we did not President Obama as the black president. The media is responsible for most of what is wrong with this greatest country. Until the media start reporting the news and stop creating the news they will continue to divide this country in a very sad way. I have a lot of respect for Larry King; however, I would say this is not the way to end his great career. America has made a lot of progress and still have a long way to go when it comes to race issues. My believe in this country is unshakable, in Ameria, the best is yet to come. May God Bless America.

Craig Shearer   December 21st, 2009 10:11 am ET

Expat American,

I have an answer to your question. You see, blacks expected more since they had never had a black President. Many expected a handout. Whites never have.

He's a complete failure hands down. The worst president in my lifetime for sure.
Who cares if he's failing Black Americans? He's failing ALL Americans.

Divided we fall.United We Stand. Many adults are not setttng the right examples for our young people. Certain groups of people want to keep this country divided. They want to see race wars started in the country. People want to blame Mr. Obama for all our countries problems. How many have you contacted your elected member in congress. If you want changes in congress.2010 can be a great year. I have lots of respect for Mr. King.

SOPHIA   December 21st, 2009 11:18 am ET

Keep up the good work Mr. President! I know you haven't been in office a year yet. Don't listen to the haters (black or white) the economy can't be fixed thru the drive thru at McDonalds. We Americans always wants things now now now. Get mad as hell if we wait in the the drive thru 5 minutes. Acting a fool like they're acting now thinking everything should be fixed by now. The people writing on the blog wouldn't do as good as job as you're doing. They think they're so smart but make the dumbest comments. What would they do as President? I shiver in my shoes thinking about it. They have no idea the weight upon your shoulders with the problems you have inherited and those arose during your term. Everything you take into account to make the decisions you do. You haven't failed the American people. I know you deserve the Noble Peace Prize because you haven't cursed out or choked your critics yet. You have very good patients. Tha'ts what we need. NOt some hotheaded idiots that are writing dumb comments on the blog. Stop listen to Rush and Fox News. Think for yourselves!

He is just plain failing. He cares nothing for the American people. He should never even been elected (not a natural born US citizen. No birth certificate, no access to college records, etc., - he is clearly hiding something).

Regardless of the fact that he took over a country that was run into the ground by the previous worthless president, he knew what he was doing. He continued to make promises that he had no intention of keeping and now the world looks on in amazment that he is not the promised messiah that he wants everyone to believe he is.

He will do no good for our nation because he does not care about our nation.

cardog   December 21st, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Since this debate is on-going, I will add this to my previous notes...
Reading all the responses to Larry's/CNN's stupid question, you get the wide seperation that exist still in our country, not only racially and politically. Some of the responses come across with intelligent thought but I have to tell you, some of you people seem to be from another world. Being from another world is probably the correct description because that world no longer exist. Quit living in the past and bring your minds into the present day future.
One writer said it correctly, this is not about President failing Blacks, but rather it's another avenue for those of you who cannot, I repeat cannot, get beyond the fact that this man is a man of color and we are living in a day that you thought would never come.
Just who do you people think you are? Is it because you are white and that makes you better or in a position to judge? Are you a right wing Republican that had eight years to make our country better, but did nothing? You have all the answers in your little brains but fail to present them to us minions looking for YOUR Leadership???
No one is going to say or write anything that will change your minds and make you proud that we have a President that in nine months has accomplished more then George Bush did in eight years. That is the most sad part of all this debate, that we as a nation are so absorbed in our own needs that we could care less about the things that require change i.e. health care, wall street, insurance companys and jobs.

gapeach   December 21st, 2009 2:03 pm ET

This has to be one of the most pathetic debates I think I've ever heard. Obama has not failed the black community, the black community failed themselves a long time ago. The higher numbers of blacks in prison, is the fault of the black community, no one else. I am so sick of hearing the whining about how the pain caused by slavery and discrimination has never been acknowledged. The black community for the most part chooses to live off of welfare and govt programs, because they do not want to wait and work for anything themselves and therefore have created their own problems. What is Obama supposed to do, wave his magic wand and give everyone in the black community even more free stuff. He has also failed the American people in general because he's a photo op president who doesn't have any real experience or knowledge about running a country. If I wanted to live in a socialist/communist country/society I'd move to China or Cuba. I prefer the US where you can be and do whatever you work hard enough to be and do. I take pride in the fact that everything I have is because I worked for it myself. I never expected anything to be handed to me by the govt.

TexasRay – I agree with everything you wrote, especially the reverse discrimination issue.

Heads up.....everyone who wants the govt to supply their every need, find yourself a nice communist country and move their and I'm sure you'll get the happily ever after you deserve.

gapeach   December 21st, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Open Minded Independent   December 21st, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Just like Bush, I don't believe Obama is failing our country or any racial group. It's our congress, especially the Senate that is failing our country. They need term limits for senators.

A. Jimenez   December 21st, 2009 3:15 pm ET

This is beyond rediculous. How in heavns name could anyone even try to make an arguement about this. President Obama has in my opinion not favored any particular race, and shouldn't. He represents all peolples who are United States citizens and those peoples who are U.S. territories despite of color, race, religion, polictical beliefs etc...etc. For any one who may think other wise should maybe leave this country and reside in Venezula, Cuba, China, or any of those countires. God Bless this wonderful country and our President of these United States.

Why is everyone so quick to blame the media for every problem in America? The media is like a mirror, sometimes we just don't like what we see.

He is the President of the United States , he is for all people. Where in the hell you all are getting these dumb a** questions from . We have our first black President , and the things that people think of is ridiculous . No one ask Bush or Clinton anything like this. I think that the media needs to stick with , true stories , not thoughts and lies. The media is becoming a reality show. Whatever happen to just plan old fashion news reporting . This is a sad country we live today .

Truth   December 21st, 2009 4:46 pm ET

I can't believe we are actually commenting on this. Unfortunately, ignorance is bliss and contagious! And how can you blame a president for a country's problems when he's only been in office a year? LOL, that's funny. I mean, what would you do to correct all the issues that were thrown in his lap? One more thing, about Afghanistan... a lot of people reject the idea of sending more troops. Did you see all the various interviews of our soldiers over there now? They are all asking for more troops, so I think he did the right thing. He listened to the troops and to Petreaus and he delivered. BAM!!!

Josh   December 21st, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Being black myself and from friends I've talked to, it feels as if Obama is purposely ignoring the Black community like a landmine. He wouldn't survive the political nuclear fallout.

Personally, I feel that he is too soft of a leader to take a firm stand on anything so it's not really an issue for me anymore whether or not he decides to be that shining example for the black community and pro-actively get involved with us. He isn't different from any other president we've had in the past. He exists to serve the interests of corporate entities and others who operate behind the scenes in the Intel community. Look past the smoke and mirrors and he's just as average as any other presiden't we've had since WWII.

BlackVet   December 21st, 2009 4:57 pm ET

Black people don't need Obama to look out for us. I take care of my self and my family. All I need is a chance equal or otherwise. Obama is just a scapegoat for a nation full of people that feel entitled to have everything their own way. He should quit like Palin. The people of this country are the reason nothing can get done. The best Americans are sacrificing their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Non hypenated-American   December 21st, 2009 5:04 pm ET

What a racist title! CNN is race obsessed.

My wife and I are of different races. We will raise our children as 'Americans'. Unfortunately we will be fighting an upstream battle as long as CNN and other media outlets continue this race-based thinking.

By the way, CNN has never explored the fact that Barack Obama is not a descendant of slaves and as such does not share the same cultural background as the vast majority of African Americans. Culture is far more important than race, just look around the world and you will learn this. The beauty of America is all the cultures melded together. Unfortunately CNN would rather us remain in our separate boxes.

Shelly   December 21st, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Yes. President Obama is failing the African-American community. Not because he is African-American, but because he is not doing enough to put an already marginalized group back to work. I think welfare-to-work was ingenious for two reasons. First, it gave people who would not otherwise have been motivated to get off the welfare rolls the resources and "motivation" to do so. Second, it created job growth through tax credits that incentivized employers to hire welfare recipients. I'm not suggesting that all the unemployed African-Americans are on welfare, but it is a fact that the hardest hit group is those that lack a college degree and African- Americans make up a disproportionate number in that group. The only way African-Americans and other marginalized groups are going to bounce back from this recession is if jobs traditionally held by African-Americans are created. Construction and education jobs are not enough.

LOL, Harvard wouldn't let just anyone do that either. Ignorance is bliss. The man is a genius. And he shouldn't be looking out just for Black people, he should be looking out for ALL people of the USA. I don't care what color you are, if I shoot you, you're bleeding RED. Just like me.

God, when will America just grow up?!? CNN I know by clicking on this I become part of the problem – but rest assured I didn't even read the article. I just want to know why a media organization like yours is going to contribute to the racial immaturity of this ridiculous country. Even by putting a title like this on an article is just to provoke people into a discussion that is completely invalid and does nothing to improve this joke of a cosmopolitan country. How about in 2010 you resolve to be a better network eh?

This is addressed to AAW. You really feel that blacks are in the sistuations they are in because of choices? Let me guess you believe we chose to be brought here and stripped of any real history that a african-american can only try to research? Look there have numerous racial grups that have been "compensated" for the wrongs that this country has bestowed them. We are still waiting for the damn compensation we were supposed to get over a century ago. I guess you never heard about that, right. We as african americans have struggled for centuries in this country and by GOD, what is wrong with wanting to be compensated for that. The Japanese were compensated for being in concentration camps. I guess slavery was just a walk in the park to you then. Do your research and find out what slavery really was about. Can you imagine being property not a person for centuries. WE DESERVE COMPENSATION TOO!!

Tiny   December 21st, 2009 6:50 pm ET

Attn: Dr. Evil. I know a more racist and violent group. You say the CBC is a racist group. Have you ever heard of them lynching people of other races, or raping people of other races. In any democracy it is normal that the opposition opposes everything the president has done. This guy has already helped this economy turn around; that helps African American and white alike. He is continuesly trying to change health care. That also helps African American and whites.

The problem to me sounds like the GOP and the Tea party have run out of brilliant ideas to go against this man. He is smart, and energized. Can these people offer anything concrete other than pounce of every slip of the tounge and porpose nothing else but "NO"?

The irony of this blog is that giving big doses of federal aid is the real disservice that the government provides to many groups. African Americans have had decades of government programs targetted at them. Is their situation dramtically improved from where it was 30 years ago? No serious observer could suggest that they are better off. What minority group is doing the best? Asians! The formula is not more and more government assistance. It is studying, working hard, staying out of trouble, and not having babies at age 15.

Donald in CA   December 21st, 2009 9:05 pm ET

Blacks are always the least served in this country. Obama cant even mention the word black without the white right going off the deep end. Blacks always have the highest unemployment mumbers no matter who is in office. Maybe the blacks should schedule some tea parties since they are the least served.

Lee   December 21st, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Where are all the upset black folk. I just keep hearing white people say black people are upset ! No credibility...

Ed   December 21st, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Failing them?
He just got them free health care for life, He extended the earned income free money giveaway, and I am sure he will find more ways to transfer America's wealth as he has stated on many occasions is his main Priority.

Richard Schickel   December 21st, 2009 11:32 pm ET

The problem with all of the people whining about Obama being president of "all the people" seem to forget that
1. Obama attended Wrights Church to establish his "African American" credentials
2. Many African Americans have been seen with this little ditty on their T-Shirts – "We didn't get our 40 Acres and a Mule – but we will settle for the White House".
3. The African Community voted for him almost 100% because he was African American – which he was not – he was not the progeny of slaves – but the son of a Kenyan expat and an White mother.

So – is he a disappointment for African Americans? Probably not because of his policies, but because of his abject incompetence and the legacy of the first African American Presidency being a catastrophe.

brad   December 21st, 2009 11:37 pm ET

Everyone knows all Obama's problems are Bush's fault..
(but I'm sure thats' what the dems say about everything.. I would say something intelligent about the way Obama is handling things, but I'm white, Don't want to be labelled a racist Cause anyone that has anything intelligent , based on proof of what's going on.. against Obama is racist

JRamon   December 21st, 2009 11:44 pm ET

Ask a ridicules, stupid and irrelevant question, you will get a ridicules, stupid and irrelevant answer every time. (black this, black that, give me a break already!)

The failing process started long before Obama entered the picture but as far as I can see the failing process is still very much alive....

But if your not afraid of a real question, and not only safe questions, I have a question for you..... I'll start it this way, and how I wish to be addressed so you know who is posing the question.

I do not relate nor accept being called a Black American, and/or an African American because there is no such thing as either. I'm an American that happens to be a person of color with the uniqueness of carrying only one flag, the American flag. (along with the status of being part and parcel of the earliest of American's).

Point & question:

It seems everyone who comes here for whatever reason illegally or otherwise seems to enjoy the civil rights more than we do. That we American people of color demonstrated, marched, suffered, fought and died for. The question should be is our elected officials in our local, state and federal government failing the American people, and not just people of color who are most effected by it? And we should look at the question from the bottom up....and with the question no one is asking, how & why illegal immigration is allowed at all?

I accuse our City government and the Mayor of openly perpetrating a crime and by doing so failing me, my family and thus the American (Citizen) people. I tried to find an attorney to accept my case and none, and probably like yourself (Mr, King) will not deal with my question or issue I pose. Because you would need balls, big balls too. Your response and answer or lack thereof will tell me the size of yours, Mr. King.

What I wrote: a synopsis of what I said: ( * trying to find an attorney to represent me in a lawsuit against the city and Mayor, and answering a request from the Washington Post for information on elected officials who are involved in illegal activity, which I haven't sent yet)

Mr. Al kamen, (of the Washington Post): If, I understand you correctly you want someone who knows of an elected official who encourages breaking the law. Well, I have one, the Mayor of New York City.

Below is an open letter I wrote to a couple of attorney's which none have responded, I'm sure for two or more reasons. The issue being to big and/or the person is. Still, the law is the law, even if you do not wish to enforce it, but that's one thing, but it's another thing to encourage someone to break the law and to engage it as if it's legal and all right, is to me and everyone else unlawful, and a willful disregard for the law which all American citizens are morally obligated to obey, is putting oneself above the law.

Bloomberg, is entitled to his opinion as a private citizen, but not as an elected official and using that elected position to impose his opinion, and will on the rest of us, by breaking the law and by allowing other to ignore it, and breaking the law by not enforcing it.
It may be even to incredulous for you, and you may look the other way as well and turn your back on what I'm saying. But it will not change the facts I have presented to you nor will him calling this City a sanctuary City be legal. By doing so he is aiding and betting in a criminal activity. Also not fulfilling his fiduciary responsibility to the office he holds and/or the people he serves and who elected him by providing the protection of the law to the citizens of New York.
Just yesterday there was a drug killing on the Westside of Manhattan on 84 Street 4 people were shot (3 killed and one wounded) and the killer fell to is death. All drug related. I have children who live here in this City, and I do not want the Mexican border mayhem brought into my life because the Mayor declared this be a sanctuary City for illegal aliens regardless of where their from nationally, is against the law!.

What I wrote:

To Whom May Concern:

.I would like to initiate a class action lawsuit against Mayor Bloomberg (who customarily over turn the rule of Law) and the City of New York for openly declaring New York City to be a sanctuary city for illegal aliens and their families in violation of City,State and federal law and the federal Immigration and Nationality Act Section 8 USC 1324(a) (1) (A) (iv) (b) (iii).

I would like to bring this lawsuit on behalf of myself, my family as a citizen and resident of the City of New York being willfully & openly deprived of my (our) civil rights and the protection of the law provided by the constitution and State law, and that the City government and state legislators are in violation of federal laws.

I feel that because of that violation my civil liberties are mute, and that my civil & equal rights & protection under the law have been violated and feel discriminated against as a Citizen of the United States and resident of the City of New York by making this and other Cities places of Sanctuaries for illegal aliens and their families.

I feel there is a double standard in law enforcement because of the continued blatant violation perpetrated right in front of my eyes each and every day and no one to complain too, There are no longer jobs that Americans won't do, and certainly in the face of the number of American Citizens unemployed and out of work and those aliens that are here illegally taking those jobs that would otherwise be available to American citizens had they had the protection of the law.

Where is the protection for the American citizen from the invasion of the unemployed from other countries that are routinely allowed to stay beyond their visas and those who enter illegally in various ways. There is none for me or anyone else because there is no law enforcement for illegal aliens Only on citizens of the United States of America and it's resident's and that is discrimination and unequal under the law.

I wish to sue the City and State for 100 million dollars for violation of my civil rights and discrimination under the law, and for lack of and/or no protection of my civil liberties as a citizen and resident of the City of New York in the wake of Bloomberg openly declaring (on record) this my home city and state a sanctuary for illegal aliens who are automatically criminals in violation of the immigration act.

Under- the federal Immigration and Nationality Act Section 8 USC 1324(a) (1) (A) (iv) (b) (iii).

"Any person who . . . encourages or induces an alien to . . . reside . . . knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such . . . residence is . . . in violation of law, shall be punished as provided . . . for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs . . . fined under title 18 . . . imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both."

Which mean if I understand this correctly Mayor Bloomberg should be in jail along with any other elected official who condones and/or support his actions!

If, we were to engage this lawsuit on the merits of the law, and on the bases I have presented we should not lose. The amount in the lawsuit (most importantly) is to bring attention to this ongoing problems. (Money always get attention.)

If interested on the merits of this case, and you feel that I have a case and wish to move forward with me on this case please contact me ASAP. Thank you.

Mr. King, American people of color (I) resent being called an African American, and Africans resent it as much as I do. I'll be glad to articulate the essence of my statement, if & when you respond?

So, to answer your question, yes, our government is failing the American people, of every color....

Tom lane   December 21st, 2009 11:54 pm ET

Ridiculous question! I hate sensationalism, and that's all this is!

kamaria nixon   December 22nd, 2009 1:21 am ET

First off I'd like to say that not all Black ppl are African American. We come from all over the world.

it is not Obamas responsibility to take care of Black ppl. We need to stop being lazy and expecting handouts and we need to take care of ourselves. It is Obama's job to take care of all americans, not just those who have the same skin color as him.

To say that Obama is only failing ppl of one race is not only saying that he is failing as president, but that WE have failed our country by voting for someone who doesn't love us all the same.

Glendale   December 22nd, 2009 2:40 am ET

The Black community doesn't need any help from the President to fail. Black people think it's okay to call each other the "N" word, but if a Caucasion person uses the same racial epitaph we are racists. Martin Luther King would have been extremely dissapointed in his own race. Black People will not get my respect until they learn to respect their own. The Black people are FAILING themselves.

Michael Alexander   December 22nd, 2009 2:59 am ET

The USA shall remain white controlled no matter what color the president is. Its called CORPORATIONS. The only hope America has is to be burned to the ground. No country of color likes America, and with good reason. So to hell with OBAMA and Washington.

Michael Alexander   December 22nd, 2009 3:03 am ET

White people are always saying leave race behind. It would be nice to but white are still teaching their children to be racist. White people are just devils in all forms. White america only worship is money. Look at Christmas. Disgusting.

Blue eyed devils

kamaria nixon   December 22nd, 2009 3:13 am ET

Glendale- Not all black ppl use the "N" word. I am black and I too think it's disgusting that SOME Black ppl call each other that. However, you should not judge all Black ppl by what you see on T.V. or whereever else you are getting your info on us. Many of us are not like that at all.
You really should sop judging us as if we are all the same

Bahati Moses   December 22nd, 2009 3:25 am ET

Who brought up this topic? He must be a racist 311. Of all issues facing the world, America inclusive you found out that this is the most pressing one!!! Larry King, Larry King this is not good at all.

Carol Linda   December 22nd, 2009 5:30 am ET

I think anyone who criticizes President Obama for not getting any work done, completely lacks understanding of the issues. If the issues were clearly understood the critics would be bringing more just arguments to the table and not the nonsense that we hear every day.

Freddie   December 22nd, 2009 6:49 am ET

Obama ain't failing the black people. He's not failing white people or hispanic people etc. He's just failing one kind of people, American people!!

I wonder if we will ever ever ever stop thinking of people as black, white, hispanic, asian, jewish, muslim, hindu, bhuddist?? When will we call ourselves Americans and nothing else.

Ann   December 22nd, 2009 9:46 am ET

Read Obama's book and you will see where his heart lies. Or read his wife's thesis and see where her heart lies. The President should be serving the American people no matter their race, creed, gender, etc. However, we know which race he stands for.

JGirl05   December 22nd, 2009 10:49 am ET

This has got to be the silliest thing I have ever heard. I am a professional Black woman. President Obama is the President of the most powerful country in the world. He is responsible for all citizens of this great country–all inclusive. This notion about failing Blacks is ridiculous. We don't get a pass because we are Black. Who started this foolishness? Sounds like something the media created. I love the President and his family. If anything, all Americans should be doing more to make sure that he succeeds versus criticizing. Oh well.

Evan   December 22nd, 2009 10:54 am ET

In reading all the responses to this blog, I have to agree with the majority that I've read. I find it kind of stupid the title,as many has said the President is the President for all Americans. You guys in the media are many time responsible for the ongoing emphasis on race and keeps putting race as an issue. I think many in the media are trying to find reasons to "bash" Obama, because he is trying so hard to solve a lot of the mess that was left by the previous administration, and as of now is doing a good job, that they use anything to polorize or bash him. So lets ge tover this race crap and get on with getting America some of the problem solved in America.

The Real Truth   December 22nd, 2009 11:04 am ET

Obama hasn't failed Black people. He has no common history with American historical blacks. So, why are people expecting him to be able to empathize with the plight of blacks in America? This is just silly. Furthermore, all politicians are alike, they spin pretty yarns for the electorate to win elections. Most people with any common sense (again I use the word common) can't possibly believe that he could deliver on those pie in the sky promises he made. If that's the case then I have some Boa infested swamp land in Florida to sell you.

TheHorseFace   December 22nd, 2009 11:19 am ET

Who cares who he is failing. The point is he is a FAILING. The worst president ever. Even behind Bush. He is right down their with Kennedy.

Dave   December 22nd, 2009 11:50 am ET

I agree with everyone that race has nothing to do with anything here. Obama just isn't the right person for the job as President, so this is the real reason why he is failing everyone!!!

WilliamTell   December 22nd, 2009 12:10 pm ET

The Democratic Party and Obama has again use the black community to rally for them, vote for them, but again no real changes for them. Hope and dreams have been the shout out in every election. The black communities need equal education like those schools in the suburbs, but having an education is just the base, no one is willing to hire college educated blacks and Latinos. The numbers are small, very small. As for fair housing, the states and city governments have failed to clean up the ghettos around the nation. Accepting poverty has been the reality of black community. No real leaders have emerged to make the black communities break from their own self decrepity. Obama was supposed to be that Leader, he’s been all over the world, yet has he been in Harlem, South LA, Detroit, any inner City in the nation. The Answer is no…

J Bonacci   December 22nd, 2009 12:29 pm ET

All LKL does is seek out the sleazy stories. There is never anything that comes from this show that is even close to being news of any kind. Interviews with the most outrageous of people are the only norm.

FatSean   December 22nd, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Mr. Obama is fixing our nation, slowly but surely. He has 'failed' nobody as far as I can tell. I will reserve judgment until the end of his term.

Maryland   December 22nd, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Obama has failed all Americans. His promises are empty.

Travis   December 22nd, 2009 12:43 pm ET

LoL... That's all you can really do with this topic. And someone tell me why that guy is going on about education cuts like they're directed solely at the Black community? They – are – affecting – everyone!!!

Mars   December 22nd, 2009 12:59 pm ET

Can we please move beyond the Neanderthal movement come back to the 21st century? People don't feed into the hate. Don't validate such an insipid question with opinionated and illogical response. It only gives fuel to a concept that died years ago. Allow this concept to die. Stop Larry from trying to resurrect racism for the sake of ratings.

Joe Unger   December 22nd, 2009 1:29 pm ET

I recall last year when the Obama supporters called Bill Clinton a racist. The best president we ever had and a friend to all minorities. It was totally dispicable and Obama let it go on in order to get himself elected. Obama also stuck himself into the Prof Gates issue and he didn't stick up for the white policeman; didn't he use the term stupid?
So I agree with others here, BO likes to pull out the race card when it suits him; his supporters are fine with this and only get angry when it doesn't suit Obama.

Larry   December 22nd, 2009 1:40 pm ET

You know who in the USA is all white. People need to look at themselfs. I am a German, Native American and an Jew and black. He has not done anything more for the whites than he has done for the blacks. There is only so much he can do. Do not forget he has to go thruough the congress to get anything passed. He just can not say this is what i want and that is that. He is not GW Bush who thought that what he could do. Obama is a very smart man and he knows what it takes. So cut me some slack and let the man do his job. He is not there to hand out freebies just because you are black or white.

Aja Charlotte, NC   December 22nd, 2009 1:46 pm ET

I think the biggest issue here is that "black" folks think that just because we have a black president that all the "black" issues will go away with the signing of bill or law. I think that has been the problem with this community. The sense of entitlement that goes along with thinking someone has to repay for past transgressions. No one owes anyone anything, work just like the rest of everyone and stop looking for handouts. The native americans are being "failed" as it being called, and I think they would have more of a gripe that than anyone else. This sickens me that some much emphasis is being place on whether or not he is failing "blacks," when the truth is he isn't failing, he also isn't god.

Erskin, Elmer P   December 22nd, 2009 1:53 pm ET

CNN/LKL Keep on trying to stir up the pot. Maybe you will get enough trouble stirred up to sell media news. I don't know why I even bother to read your junk.

Fay   December 22nd, 2009 2:05 pm ET

You Must have forgotten who all voted for President Obama. hs he let the Whites, Asians, Latinos and all other Americans down? Lets stop focusing on race and focus on our future(our kids) and focus on how are we going to get our soldiers from overseas.

Jim W.   December 22nd, 2009 2:07 pm ET

Race will always be an issue in this country so long as we have people who profit from keeping one group down and another up. It's not good enough to say that race is over. It will never be over until we get to the point where people are people and we're all one color. But then someone will still find a way to profit from people having straight hair and others having kinky hair. Or big noses vs small noses. Anytime you have people like Al Sharpton and Rush Limbaugh who can make money by keeping it going and you have people who listen to them, then we're never going to get beyond where we are now.

Neil Miller   December 22nd, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Obama is as much White as he is Black. The question is especially inane with respect to him. Clearly too many Americans and media are caught up in 30 minute TV solutions. Get real,. people. How many years did it take to fix the Great Depression? How many years did it take to fix any war, name any one? 11 monts since Obama became President and the two wars and failed economy are not fixed. There is no person in our civilization that can perfomr such miracles and we all know that. Get real, people.

RM   December 22nd, 2009 2:57 pm ET

The focus of this article makes no sense. I wish the media would stop trying to create divisiveness amongst Americans. Please, you do not do our country any favors with articles like this. Every minority demographic wants to be recognized or even more important, not forgotten... understandable. It has been that way with every President since civil rights and always will be. However, note to all media outlets: Pres. Obama is the president for all Americans and speaking as a black american, I wish this type of Q&A to the public would stop.

WilliamTell   December 22nd, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Obama claims to be a leader who will govern equally...

I still see Black on black crime.
I still see Ghettos..

I still see racism...
I still see no real leader in this POTUS.

Just words... speaks with Fork tongue...

Joanne   December 22nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

This is totally absurd! And as an African-American, I am offended by the question. I understand that race is and will always be an issue in America, but the constant bickering about his obligation to the Black community is tiring. President Obama is not failing. He inherited problems that will take some time to resolve. I never heard this question asked when our Presidents – not of color – were in office.

Jacksonville   December 22nd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

I can not believe this is a question and/or even a thought. I have a question....Did the previous President failed the Blacks? We at some point need to get away from the stereotype and see all people as people regardless of race, culture background, physical handicaps, wealthy, poor, etc. I believe President Obama is doing a great job. He is challenging every situation and/or problem one at a time and each differently. Let's give the man a break and stop asking questions of no value.

Anne   December 22nd, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Joanne, I agree with you 128%...

Stop with the race card and let us remind ourselves of the "inherited" mess left behind by GWB...duh!

Did GWB ruin it for white people? Heck yes he did as he did for ALL people...'nuf said...

Leave Obama ALONE!!! Think about your own mess...and stop trying to put GWB's mess on Obama.

Frank Romeo M   December 22nd, 2009 4:37 pm ET

I think this is a very racist title of a program to pose in a popular program. Larry king, we are the United States of America and not African-American Community. Mr. Barack Obama is currently the US President -elected by the people of United States. It's a shame! Give peace a chance and not racists and divisiveness to continually permeate in our Country. I can write 250 pages of book on this subject , but will choose not to waste my time. God bless you all!

Glendale   December 22nd, 2009 4:46 pm ET

Why do we have to refer to Blacks as African-Americans? I was born in Greece and am a Naturalized Citizen. Should I call someone a racist who doesn't refer to me as Greek-American. I am tired of the Black race thinking everyone who is not Black owes you something. I OWE YOU NOTHING.

Ed Barenborg   December 22nd, 2009 4:52 pm ET

The only way to stop discrimination is to stop discriminating. Period.

Glendale   December 22nd, 2009 5:51 pm ET

To: Donald in CA,

Maybe Blacks should worry about educating themselves rathing than trying to run a Scam (TIGER WOODS). That way their unemployment numbers would drop along with the High Percentage of crimes they commit.

J Durham   December 22nd, 2009 6:57 pm ET

As long as he saved us all from McCain and Palin, I'm happy.

C   December 22nd, 2009 7:22 pm ET

In my opinion, it seems that everyone is missing the point. It's not necessarily about the illusion of race, who's committing crimes or unemployed. It would not matter who was president, democrat or republican, the system we are slaves of debt to, is the problem. The system doesn't care who you are, it only cares about being fed more and more. There are poor people all over this country and all over this world, while there are enough natural resources for everyone to have adequate food, shelter and clothing. You have lost the one thing that you were born with into this world; your birthright as a human being. We give bits and pieces of it away everyday and then blame someone else for taking something from us because of their ethnicity, gender, nationality, or economic class. As you fight over the illusion of race someone else is walking away with your birthright.

Ruben   December 22nd, 2009 7:54 pm ET

Barack Obama does not run this country. Coporations do. Get wise.

Steven Roush   December 22nd, 2009 8:01 pm ET

This is bogus. My wife is whit and she has been actively seeking a jib for a year but has no luck. You cannot tell me that only Blacks are being affected, where I work at a Fortune 500 company there are more Blacks than whites being hired. Affirmative action is and has been alive in this country for too long.
Another thing. Out of 300 Americans why is the Health Bill only going to provide coverage for 30 million. I am appalled at Congress and Obama. If I had the money I would leave this biased racist country being driven into the ground by "elected" officials that live high and mighty on the Americans backs!!!!

Michael Alexander   December 22nd, 2009 8:37 pm ET

Maybe white people should stop pretending they are liberal when it comes to race. They are not. The people who are scaming Tiger Woods are not black. He has sponsors and they are not black. DUDE

Michael Alexander   December 22nd, 2009 8:50 pm ET

The only people who ever discriminated against me are white folks starting in grade school, high school and college. White people are genetically racist towards dark skin. A white person"'s mentality towards dark skin people in America is simply if you cannot exploit it for profit ,exterminate it, Anyone who wants to argue AMERICAN history regarding exploitation of dark people in America has their brain rewired. Obama can never help black folks Mr Mocha is President to keep the Corporate maching running smoothly. He is only symbolic. White folks are going to remain in control of the money no matter what even if it requires strangulation of anybody else.especially black folks, Black people are only entertainers to keep white folks at ease. Dollars dollars and more dollars baby.

Religious persecution my ass. Europeans came here for land.

Its not like his black background is the same as other African Americans. He isnt descended from American slaves, so he doesnt share the same insight as our African American brothers and sisters. I'm sure hes has his own experiences that other men and women of color share. But he can never know what its like growing up a descendant. How can he let down a people he doesnt share the same background with?

Pat   December 22nd, 2009 10:46 pm ET

Obama and the US gov't is failing everyone. Most citizens come in last as politicians' interests are first linked to special interest groups and their lobbyists ($$ contributors). Then comes the Electoral College (that's right – our popular vote doesn't really count) – how outdated and uneven. Then comes the rich and their contributions. Then comes the angry citizens who voice their opinions. Then comes the silent majority who votes. Then comes the poor. And for those who don't vote – does it really matter? Being from Nebraska, maybe we should learn a lesson from Sen. Nelson and hold out our vote to the highest bidder!

m purifoy   December 22nd, 2009 11:00 pm ET

Crap talk like this is what those conservatives/republican like to hear. Obama is not the President for black people, He is the President for the American people. So if he is failing , he is failing for all.
And by the way I think he is doing the best under the circumstances.

Scott   December 23rd, 2009 1:39 am ET

I agreed with just about everthing JRamon from NY had to say. America should take care of Americans first. This isn't what is happening. Employers are only too willing to hire someone who is willing to take less pay and doesn't ask any questions because they are here illegally. This is true in the construction industry, restaurants, landscapping and building janitorial services. Employers are not willing to take the time to outreach and help train a poor American kid if they can get someone else who will work as a virtual slave. If something isn't done to stop what it is happening it will get worse for all uneducated poor people in this country.

I am white but I was really impressed by Barbara Jordan, a Black lawyer and Democratic Congresswoman from Texas who stated that people that are here legally should stay and people that are here illegally should leave. She was an impressive speaker with a commanding presence. I hoped to be able to vote for her some day for preseident but she passed away in the late 90's.

I did not vote for Barack Obama. Not because he was Black but in part because he promoted racism. He openly sought during the Presidential campaign the support of organized Latino groups that promote illegal immigration including La Raza. He attended and spoke at their convention. I do not have a problem with a candidate courting the NAACP because advancement of any and all racial groups in America is good for all of us. But would any non-radical approve of any Presiential candidate attending a White supremicist goup convention?

I support the efforts to help any poor country improve the situation for its people. The United states and all developed countries should do more to help. But the solution is not to bring many million of poor people here. I think it boils down to this; does any liberal or conservative believe we have done a good job with improving the situation of the masses of poor in this country, especially Blacks ? If your answer to this is no, then why would you want to bring in many millions more poor. It just makes a previously very difficult problem so impossible that no President can make meaningful progress. The end result will be the quality of the vast majority of all American's lives will be degraded.

Guy Kimble   December 23rd, 2009 3:31 am ET

It seems that the only ones that are pushing the race card is the media corps. With "Black in America and Latino in America" shows and Walmart line cutters that get media attention it's no wonder that now it's the President's responsiblity to make a certain race happy. TO ALL MEDIA BREAKING NEWS: Get off the race issue. Americans are smart enough to know that race is an issue no matter where you are in the world. In every race there are those that have some sort of racist followers. I'm sure that not all blacks like whites and not all latinos like blacks. The problem is that we need to move away from race all together and start promoting equality of all humans. My final thoughts to the media corporations is that if your going to do shows about race it's only fair to show all sides not just one peticular race. I have not seen any programs related to Whites in America even though Whites will be the minority in the next twenty to thirty years. The media needs to stop showing the white race as having no problems living in America. That's not true and media corps. need to focus on real news instead of trying to bash white's for problems that other races endure. In these trying times Americans need to stick together and even though the world is not perfect no matter if your white, black, latino, or purple we all have problems with living in America.

Harold   December 23rd, 2009 3:56 am ET

Definitely, a wrong topic for discussion. Remember though that some Americans aren't intelligent. America's fortunate to have Obama and previous presidents as their president; at least they are the smart ones. All have said they are president for all people regardless of color and religious background

MTL   December 23rd, 2009 8:56 am ET

I think this is a ridiculous heading and story, however, I do believe that we still have a massive problem with race in this country. I think the media looks for a story, but the media is not responsible for racism and discrimination that happens on a personal level that they are never made aware of. I am only speaking from personal experiences. I think that while this is absurd for Larry King to pursue, it pales in comparison to some of the things Rush Limbaugh says. I think Al Sharpton is provocative too. So I think both sides are guilty. We will always have race in this country as long as people want to be divisive and controversial.

Kevin   December 23rd, 2009 9:37 am ET

Shouldn't this article really read "Is Obama failing Americans?" Wh, when we supposedly strive for unity and equality, do we attempt to make a racial issue out of everything? Is Obama failing Americans? answer would be "Yes!!!!"

WB Bowen   December 23rd, 2009 9:45 am ET

Why must you differentiate the races? For ratings? As long as we constantly say 'black', 'white', 'hispanic' we will never be "ONE PEOPLE"! There are no laws or rights for a specific race, only those for the UNITED STATES. Stop it!!

S. Marie Johnson   December 23rd, 2009 9:56 am ET

A question like this could ONLY be posed by a Jewish person...who is overtly attempting to STIR THE creating even more RACISM...among the races! Yes, many of us realize...Jews, Whites and other BENEFITTED (financially and socially) from slavery!

Perhaps a "better" question might be posed, "Is Obama failing the American and international community one year AFTER September/October 2008?

randy   December 23rd, 2009 10:30 am ET

All democrats are mad because Obama was supposed to walk in and give everybody a free ride. Liberals don't want to work, they want a hand out and they're seeing now that his promise of welfare for everybody was a hollow promise just to get elected. He new his audience and new they would believe him. Deal with it. You voted for him.

blp   December 23rd, 2009 11:05 am ET

I think the posters if this thread are missing the point. What is being said is that by Obama NOT concentrating on the economy and therefore job creation he is hurting the Black community; along with everybody else. If he would focus on job then we ALL would be better off. As the saying goes, "A rising tide, lifts all boats."

A strong economy benefits all, right now all that is happening is that jobs are being killed or at the very least discouraged.

Steve   December 23rd, 2009 11:27 am ET

No, is the answer to the question- he's failing all of us.

Omar   December 23rd, 2009 11:47 am ET

I love these comments. I love how more people realize the media cares more about discussing race than most Americans. The best way to stop articles like these from going up is to IGNORE them. I know I'm being hypocritical here but if CNN baits you with a race headline, don't click on it. Don't play the video. DON'T leave any more comments than you wouldn't for any random article about something you don't care about. They eat up and cash in on the attention. DON'T give it to them.

nyx   December 23rd, 2009 11:47 am ET

yes...he is failing the african american! now my points;
1. He was elected by the largest ever black vote, look at the video of his ignaguration, the black woman saying "obama is going to give me everything"
2. yes he is the president of all american, but the question is as it is and once again yes he is failing the blacks. what has he accomplished on their behaf? nothing!!!
3. Healthcare is going to hurt the poor! is he failing yes he is failing the poor (mostly blacks)
4. the economy; who is getting the worse of it? the blacks!
now my question to all blacks " how is HOPE AND CHANGE " working for you!

james darnley   December 23rd, 2009 12:08 pm ET

ridiculous we are all amreicans and everything any president does affects all;s always the politicians or the press that has to drag up the black and white issue while most people i know outside of republicans of course try to look at each other as just human beings.

Joanne B   December 23rd, 2009 12:36 pm ET

My comments are directed to Rick, Glendale, Tyrone and Gene D. Before you start criticizing our President you need to examine yourselves. There isn't one person on this earth that is perfect and without faults including you all.

I believe if you have nothing good to say (shut up). If you did not vote for President Obama you all really need to shut up. I did not agree with our last two presidents, but I can say I did not do what do you all are doing (criticizing).

LKL put this stupid question out there for people like yourselves to comment on. First of all LKL needs to examine himself and ask what have he done for anyone.

We all need to pray (especially those who believe in prayer) for our country. If it was not meant for President Obama to be our President he would not be.

Steve   December 23rd, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Obama has failed...period.

M. Moore   December 23rd, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I'm no historian, but yes the President is letting blacks down just like the previous ones have done. Get a grip, the President isn't elected to decide what race, color, etc. gets preferential treatment in this country; he's in office to do a job which means running the "Business of the United States". In business the product could care less about a skin color ; the concern is normally about getting the job done; and done right! Seems like Presidents can't remember to "Run the Business" to begin with. If this President isn't any good at business either; the blacks and other races (means whites too) will continue to suffer. But lest not forget, he like past Presidents; is getting a paycheck no matter how he runs the business!

Ster   December 23rd, 2009 1:46 pm ET

"And by the way I think he is doing the best under the circumstances."

Wow... then you are blind to the other options - and to HISTORY! We've done this before (bailouts, tax increases, increased spending), it has NEVER worked!

Max   December 23rd, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Yes he has failed all Americans.................

Godwin   December 23rd, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Attn: Larry King and all media

As an African-American, I feel insulted that this should be made a primteime issue. Barack Obama is the President of the United States, not President of Black America or any other group.

George Bush failed America, not White/Caucasian Americans, Bill Clinton (during the Monica scandal) betrayed Americans, not White Americans. I do not recall a primteitme edition discussing the "failure" of these presidents, or any before them, to a certain group.

I, as an African- American do not, never did and never will expect to get preferential treatment just because the President shares the same skin color as I do.

PLEASE, stop already!! It is dissapointing that our media should be the ones faning the flames of marginalisation and racial bickerings, when others are ready to move on. We really need to get past this. This is 2009 – America is a diverse country with people from different countries, as its citizens, people with different skin colors, eye color, languages, etc.

The issues that need to be addressed on primetime is reduction of poverty and crime, taxes, health care for the masses, improving our educational systems, encouraigng entrepreneurship and providing jobs for the qualified workers that are WILLING to work.

Obama is failing ALL Americans; he and his corrupt Congress are destroying the once greatest nation on earth.

Let the revolution begin.

LittleDogueMan   December 23rd, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Obama is failing in everything he is doing. He is turning into Jimmy Carter reincarnated. What did he do to receive the Nobel Peace Prize? Where's the transparency in his government? I see alot of making excuses, blaming Bush and hiding, but no transparency. I've seen nothing from Obama, nothing. How can anyone give Teddy Kennedy a Medal of Honor for being a murderer? I don't think Teddy served any time for his crime. Hmmmmm.................. Today, Politics is the worst I've ever seen in my 40+ years of existence. It's truly law breaking and pathetic. These people in the Congress and Senate need to get a real job and start working for a living. I think a tough 60+ hour a week manufacturing job would do them all some good. We should also limit their pay and benefits, because they don't do anything, at least not for the American People, only for each other. Term Limits should be limited to two years for each Senator and Congressman.

Victoria   December 23rd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Our President is doing a fine job for all Americans!

Emi   December 23rd, 2009 3:55 pm ET

My girl friend in high school was a 'black American' – although no-one ever labeled her as such. She was just 'one of us'. I don't recall her or any of the other black students ever whining about slavery or the burden of being black. Even though blacks were less than 1% of our student body, she was actually elected Homecoming Queen. Gee, how did that happen? She was an excellent student (no black studies at that time) – went on the get her Masters in Education, and at the age of 45 she became Superintendent of Schools in our almost 99% white town. Gee, how did that happen? Favors? No. Affirmative Action? No -didn't exist then. Special interest groups demanding she be hired? No. .. She did it all on her own – with hard work and determination. Even paid her own way thru college, as most of us did 50 years ago.
It can be done, people. Work hard, and stop looking for the government to hand everything to you. Succeed on your own.
And by the way: to all the African Americans who fail to realize they elected a con-man...where were you when Condoleeza Rice and Clarence Thomas rose to the top? Why no hero-worship for them?

Egirl   December 23rd, 2009 4:03 pm ET

I'm sorry but, he has failed ALL AMERICANS not just AFRICAN-AMERICANS.

jahdaix   December 23rd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

This is the most rediculous question I have need for it ...Obama is President of ALL Americans NOT just Black americans...come on man....leave race issues alone!!!!!

hasji   December 23rd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

obama is not 100 percent black then how obama is failing black.

hasji   December 23rd, 2009 4:13 pm ET

cononel i agree with u. obama became president of united states because of africa amercian votes.

Ele   December 23rd, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Believe it or not, the above comments, I'm assuming, were made by fair-minded, understanding, patriotic citizens of the greatest country on the planet. Our elected officials from the top down, bankers, banks, judges, lawyers, priests, white color, blue collar, no collar, athletes, and a slew of others are being exposed as out of touch, liars, tax evaders, criminals, sexual deviants, etc., and all we can find wrong with Obama is the color of his skin! I have learned more about America since Obama has been in office than I have in a lifetime of elections. I learned that American citizens can stand together regardless of skin color if they are ready to go forward with a common cause believed to be the best for all Americans. As citizens, we can, do and did make a difference. Together. Something that I only dreamed about, existed for a moment in time, and it was made real in my lifetime and the pride I felt and feel, can't be taken away, ever, by anyone. The Queen, hugged by a First Lady that didn't just curtsy or follow some outdated don't touch protocol; a First Lady that's genuine, has good instincts, a hands-on mother, daughter and to show genuine love toward your husband even if he is President; to see the First Lady as a real, in- touch person instead of a forced figurehead in outdated fashions that can't relate to you and you certainly can't relate to her; a President that speaks to you instead of just reading poorly. I can't believe we are still stuck in racism mode, stuck on skin color and just stuck. Wake up everybody no more backwards thinking, time for thinking ahead.

John   December 23rd, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Obama is failing all Americans. Blacks just thought they were going to get a free ride. Remember Mable the moocher was going to get a car and her house paid for. This country is full of idiots for electing this guy.

Karen   December 23rd, 2009 7:41 pm ET

I sick of people thinking that President Obama owe the blacks a free ride. HE DOES NOT!!!!! I'm black and yes I voted for him!! He owes every red blooded American his best to straighten this country out. I don't care what race you are and wish that we as American would get off the race card. This mess was put on his plate when he was voted into office. And it's going to take some time to get it straighten out. So, those of you who are criticizing every move he makes, think about congress fighting against him on health care, and anything that may benefit us. Some of them have admitted they hope none of his plans work. So they want him to fail simply because he's BLACK!!!!! ( And yes, I used the race card") We owe ourselves to do the best we can in a bad situation. And for Eileen, blacks have never gotten a free ride!!! I think you maybe more familiar with the free rides. So let us know how it really feel to get them whenever you want.

Naomi   December 23rd, 2009 8:37 pm ET

I am black and what a rediculus headline?

joe,nj   December 23rd, 2009 9:53 pm ET

Oh please, enough with the race already. We have a half-white
President. Why are there so many whites ouot of work? See how stupid the whole thing is?

Tony, Washington DC   December 23rd, 2009 11:38 pm ET

Stop the whining and start to educate yourself and your kids. Schooling is something you must work on and it's not free. Any group a lack of education and social values will never get out of the abyss.

Woody McBreairty   December 23rd, 2009 11:40 pm ET

President Obama is failing ALL Americans. His frilly, flowery little speeches have given way to typical political rhetoric, twisting the truth, propagandizing, and downright lies. It seems to me this Presidency of arrogance, hypocricy & false promises is morphing into the George W. Bush presidency. He could also be called President RhamObama, complete with lessons in Chicago corruption and thuggery. I will never listen to President Obama speak again, I get such a bad taste in my mouth, it makes me want to vomit.

Ellen Randall   December 24th, 2009 7:09 am ET

Oh my goodness...........still the race issue. Why in the world can't we refer to one unified society and stop polarizing the many nationalities/races that comprise our United States? What is good for one should be good for the is most disheartening to claim malice when our President is acting on behalf of the good of the whole. What else would one want? More stimulus packages? More housing incentives? More health care? More handouts? Come now, it can't be all that bad.......and just trust me, I HAVE been there and DONE that!

Jos van Doorn   December 24th, 2009 8:24 am ET

Who is running the US? Obama? You are kidding.

Of course Obama is failing. He is not running the country. If he was running the country, then he would not be failing.

Example? Afghanistan. Thirty thousand more troops go to Afghanistan. Obama did exactly what the military wanted. If he had set the number to ten thousand the military woiuld have been happy too.

Oh yes. Obama told us that he had been thinoking about Afghanistan a long time. He made that remark to fool the stupid Americans. He knows about fooling them. See the elections.

But what are the problems of Afghanistan? Corruption, Al Queda, Taleban. What is the military going to do about those problems? Nothing.

I remeber Westmoreland. He wanted more troops in Vietnam. To win the war. He got more troops and America lost the war. Afghanistan will be the same.

Ryan K   December 24th, 2009 9:32 am ET

Obama is not failing anyone! Stop looking for government to solve our problems. How about the African American Community for one holiday season stops spending Billions of dollars and use that money to build your own community.

BiteMe   December 24th, 2009 9:38 am ET

How is it possible that people are calling Obama the worst President every after 1 year in office? Do they not remember the last 8 years under the Frat boy that looked like he farted at a party? WTH!

proudly south african   December 24th, 2009 9:45 am ET

firstly i have read most of the comments, being a "so called coloured" mixed race like Pres.Obama, i can see where these comments are going, please dont make this a race thing, the us is surpose to be very non racial, but sitting where i am sitting now i think south africa with all its problems are the best spot to be, and no i dont believe that Obama is failing any black or white american, i think he is failing the people who wanted him to fail, you must understand Obama is not a black leader nor a white leader, he has been put there by god as an "coloured" leader, who is mixed by white & black, so race should not be an issue, south africa (mzanzi) the rainbow nation is proud of you Mr.Pres. Obama, like Madiba (Mandela), says, "now is the time", america stand up and be counted for all the good that you can do in the future, and lets forget your errocant past

Prince   December 24th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Liberal media needs to stop the nonsense. I'm an African American and I realize that a president is a president to ALL of America. Quit trying to turn everything into a racial issue. I'm not a republic nor democrat. I'm for the people and progress of America as a world power. We should be living in a colorless free nation like our four fathers tried to invision.

kay   December 24th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Obama has not failed anyone. Give him a chance to do his job! Never has there been a president so closely scrutinized. I wonder why? Let him be! He's got a hell of a mess to clean up. Oops, can I say hell?

tensor   December 24th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Hmmm, agree with so many others that this is a contrived issue and a dumb article. I know of no blacks, whites or browns who think the entire country ought be governed for 12% of the population, regardless of whom is Prez. Give Obama a break; he's peddling as fast as he can.

CNN: find something else to fit the news media outrage du jour; this isn't it.

President Obama is doing a great job for all Americans, Black, White, Brown or other. Have we forgotten what a mess the country was in with 8 years of BUsh? It takes time to repair the country. But he will. Yes We CAN !

Queet   December 24th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Obama america is failing to understand who created the fianancial mess your in? Perhaps Obama is failing to turn america into trusting hope filled nation after Bush's fear based socialistic/facist terms. Good luck turning america around its a fallen empire. Perhaps the people unmentioned agency who training osama bin laden could run the country better. lol

Joe   December 24th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Why does this ALL have to be a black thing, why can't this country come together as ONE! When we start talking about black, hispanic and etc... we are creating racism. Please stop ALL this and lets come together as a nation. W

Randie   December 24th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

You are dividing our country by saying the President isn't doing enough for the black person. Can we come together as a country and help ALL people out? Unless we do this our country will be divided and this isn't good. I know people of ALL races that are hurting financial, lets pull together as a nation!

Dean   December 24th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Obama is the biggest bust in politics ever. I laugh everytime he speaks he truely believes he is a god. LOL Keep on keeping on you loyal subjects.

diamond   December 24th, 2009 5:36 pm ET

What kind of topic of discussion is this. Obama could never fail the African American community because in becoming the first African American President of the US, he has opened up doors of VISION that so many did not believe existed nor was possible. In seeing him sit behind the White House Presiden'ts desk, step off Air Force One and Marine One gives me chills of pride as an African American that he overcame the diversity and persevered in one of the most racist countries in the world. Be realistic, he made Martin Luther King's Dream a REALITY.

S. Milton   December 24th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

NO. President Obama is NOT failing black americans. I am so tired of hearing negative comments about President Obama when the man is one of the hardest working presidents we have EVER had !!! President Obama is for "the people" – to help with issues not only facing blacks, but for whites and every other race as well. It is up to individual – immediately families to work within their own communities and households as far as issues effecting the black race – it is NOT the presidents responsibiliity to fix every problem and issue effecting black communities.

diamond   December 24th, 2009 5:51 pm ET

Despite his exterior shade of light brown his personality along with his approaches to solving problems are more directed to every human being; he does not look at color. I think people forget that his sister is not African, so I think people forget this about Obama he comes from a multi-racial family. I do believe that as a President he reaches out more than previous President's to find out what the people think and he cares about the feedback that he receives. Unemployment, Lay-Offs, and Health Care issues do not have a race associated to them, we are all suffering as a group and that is what people need to be focusing on, not the division, but the unity that is needed to fix the economy. Also remember Obama did not create this economic mess, he inherited it and hopefully he can bring it back together if people would give him a chance.

Diane   December 24th, 2009 6:08 pm ET

I have never heard a question more ridiculous than this? WHO IS THE AUTHOR??????? No Obama is not failing blacks, bloody corporations like Verizon is sucking the world dry and "FAT CATS" like Mr. Raymond W. Smith took all of that blood-soaked and stolen money to the bank with no problem.

hernyaccent   December 24th, 2009 8:44 pm ET

Obama is in no way failing me as a black American. He is given me more opportunity to realize my potential as a black woman in America. However, I know he is not a savior and in a capitalist society his job is not to give me a handout. So, NO, I do not think he has failed the black community. The black community is failing itself by assuming that Barrack Obama is going to fix all the external and internal issues.

alfonds   December 24th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

valwayne   December 24th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

Obama isn't just failing the African American community, he's failing everyone. By betraying his campaign promises and lurching to the far left he is damaging the economy that will hurt all Americans for generations. The corrupt spending, debt, and Government control of everything is permanently damaging the economy and setting us up for a huge debt crisis that could make the U.S. a second rate power. Ultimately those with less education and lower incomes will suffer the most in a damaged economy. Since higher percentages of African Americans have less education and lower incomes they will be hurt more. Obama can comfort himself that Obamacare will help the African American community more, but the damage it does to the economy will also mean higher levels of unemployment and even slower income growth for them than for the rest of Americans. Unless being UNEMPLOYED and on the Government dole is your definition of success Obama is failing us all!

Kevin   December 24th, 2009 11:40 pm ET

We have a joker sitting in the White House and he is failing All American Citizens, hardly just blacks. Job creation or the economy is not the center focus of this administration. Do you truly believe any business would expand due to the current state of affairs or the thugs running the show? What good has Obama and company provided for this nation? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Health Care reform is a joke and a job killer. Gitmo is moving, not closing. Iran and N. Korea no longer fear U.S. and will continue doing as they please. Iraq solders are moving to Afghanistan. Where was CNN when Obama showed his true color – hatred for white Americans, blaming a white cop for doing his job.
Our democrats being brazen following Obama are failing us.

Dragonchef   December 25th, 2009 8:07 am ET

Not all Obama's fault- the people voted him in for whatever mistaken idea they had of what he stood for BUT they also voted in the Democrat majority in both houses and that is worse since they pay no attention to what the people want but do whatever they think will give them more money and control. Good or bad we have Obama for 3 more years and unfortunately some senators for 2-6 years- best solution vote them out as they come up and get some fresh blood into DC THAT ARE NOT LAWYERS first- maybe then they can undo the harm done over past 3 years or more and get the US back to what it was intended to be a good place for all LEGAL residents to live and work

Ben Wuloo Ikari   December 25th, 2009 8:11 am ET

I've said it before that people, the audience should learn or must learn how to analyze the media so they wouldn't be intimidated, preyed upon or deceived. The media remains one of the major problems even as they're helping to inform us. They set the agenda for discuss; they help push you to limelight and can also bring you down-bury you; Tiger Woods for instance! Many marriages or relationships have been broken as they illegally intrude in family matters, like government-no doubt media is government apparatus.

I know they will argue that if partners didn't mess up cheating or being abuse they wouldn't have what to report about them. relationship, marriage in particular is private not minding the statuses of couples. Vows are made between and for two and not three! Yet, we're humans and fallible. Media personalities who loosely trash people such as Woods aren't immune from marital infidelity-not even from relationship or friendship abuse. If you don't do or commit one you're committing the other!

Meanwhile, whether people were randomly questioned or not the question above couldn't have been coined by the respondents, but the media. The answers could them come in the direction the media wants to justify the news item or talking-points. If Obama fails, I hope he wouldn't-as he's fulfilled some promises and done some great things in the first year.

He would fail all Americans and by extension the world for the confidence reposed in him because of the leadership position America has unilaterally assumed. It would also be because of his background-people feel he could be the messiah because he's been there; had felt pains and may not be cold dealing with the needy or wounded. He's human, and the corporate pressure would no doubt bend him that failure may be inevitable.

We've seen it with the additional troops to Afghanistan whereas no real evidence but Bush lies and water-boarding exist of the nation's or a religious sect/group's culpability in 911. No, Obama hasn't failed "blacks." If fails he will fail all and not just one race or ethnicity, etc. And like someone already said Clinton, the Bushes and others were never asked the audience/people if they failed whites. Interestingly and sadly, anything "black" comes with exploit and Euro-American scrutiny. This must stop if we must move forward as we honestly and respectfully discuss racial issues/tension that exist, may reduce but not go away.

Uncle Brice   December 25th, 2009 8:19 am ET

Will we ever reach a time in the United States where we are all simply citizens, not separated by skin color? The biggest and, perhaps, more serious divide at this time in history is rich vs. less-than-rich, big corporations vs. people.

Congress will not let Obama fail the rich or the corporations so any failure on his part will be failing everyone else.

Ben Wuloo Ikari   December 25th, 2009 8:25 am ET

Obama and the Chinese president, other so-called developed or first world countries failed the world at Copenhagen (climate summit), and not blacks!

indiethink   December 25th, 2009 8:31 am ET

Obama hasn't failed blacks. BLACKS have failed blacks. By embracing a culture that demeans, dehumanizes, demoralizes and destroys, we blacks have made it much easier for people everywhere to NOT take us seriously. What politician today is foolish enough to stick his/her neck out for blacks when we have allowed outselves to be stigmatized as a bunch of self-hating, anti-social, scowling misanthropes? It's political suicide for any politician to do that, unless their constituency is overwhelmingly black. Bottom line - nobody is going to respect people who don't respect themselves. People who call themselves the 'N' word and routinely refer to their women as 'B's' and 'W's' and who popularize the ridiculous practice of wearing pants hanging off of their backsides are not going to be seen as people worth risking political capital over. This is part of the fallout from hip-hop "culture" - fallout which some folks are still in denial about.

Obama did not destroy America. Have we forgotten that GWB destroyed the economy and that is why Obama was elected because he wanyed an all inclusive government and wanted the middle class to prosper instead of the rich. The problem is Obama did not realize that most Americans are too dimb to vote for their intrests. Instead the belive that lie that they one day can be bill gates so they vote for policies that may help them when they strike it rich. What a bunch of BS. If Amercans don't wake up and realize the lies that are being sold to them the country will miss its opportunity to save the middle class and our society will be composed of a bunch of have nots and a few haves. Please read Marx's Capital it is sooooo true.

Steve E.   December 25th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Obama is not failing blacks! Blacks keep on failing blacks! And that idea my friends, takes some guts to absorb without painting it as purely racist dogma.

Ms Syllee Beotch   December 25th, 2009 11:00 am ET

The media needs to take a time out and stop fanning the flames. ALL Americans need help-why do they keep driving the wedge between us. I love white people-I love latinos-I love asians and sure do love me so black people.

Paul.v.H.-South-Africa   December 25th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

If you think Obama failed America then you must really come to South Africa and see how Jacob Zuma has failed South Africa. Our opinion is that Obama is a Much beter President for your country than what Jacob Zuma is for South Africa.

For example one of our major banks in South Africa is only giving study loans to (black, indian and coloured) south african within the bank and they refuse to give a study loan to any white south africans.

How discriminating is that? In our country we now have reversed

You really should rather say thankyou to Obama.

Linda   December 25th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Is Obama failing all Americans...yes. This new health reform bill is going to punish seniors on medicare by cutting their benefits by $40-50 billion a year for the next 10 years. I guess this is a good way to lower the aging population. And what about the folks that are having their homes foreclosed because the money has not been dispersed by the banks? I'd say that there are more than one group that is being dissed by the President.

Hamid Sahrawi   December 25th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

It has nothing to do with President.(WE) American are failing ourselves. So let the President keep doing his jobs, and if we want to know the legacy and the value of President of Obama we should go abroad, because today all the world love America and Americans than anytime before. Black or White, Latino or Asian, Muslims or Christains, is just a political card everybody want to play wiyh it.

jim   December 25th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Gayle   December 25th, 2009 7:37 pm ET

First of all, many of the blacks did not support Obama at first because they went on to support Hillary and her gang. That was before Hillary dropped out of the race. Now the nation elected its first President of color, the same core group and that including high ranking democrats in the CBC are complaining that he is not doing enough for blacks. And those who are complaining has been in office since I was a little girl thinking now that he's elected they supposed to get preferential treatment for their districts. Yes, I'm an African American, however, what do they expect, have him be like a genie and wave a magic wand to get everything quicker? Obama even said that change takes time. I realize there is problems in the black community like unemployment, the lack of businesses and vice versa, but people need to give him time to fix the problems which plagued Americans for the last eight years under the previous administration. And for all these people who are complaining about Obama, who do you want CBC? Uncle Tom Michael Steele of the G.O.P? Sarah Palin wannabe Michelle Malkin? or Alan Keyes?

tom   December 25th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

most african-americans have no immediate ties to africa, so why not call them just americans. sooner or later we (all americans) came from somewhere else, unless you are a native american, america is in grave danger, for it is easier and cheaper to buy and ship some items from china than to produce here. OUR president has left all americans down, first he has bowed to muslim kings, has our country in debt so far our grandchildren won't prosper. hopefully soon, he will stop blaming bush and get on being president. i think he would be a great motivational speaker, as a president his first 11 months have been below average at best. he threatens people to go along with his plans or else. sounds like a dictator, shiek, or any other ideals where your not permitted a choice

Lee   December 25th, 2009 10:45 pm ET

He is failing blacks and whites and every other color. His actions are devastating. He is rapidly socializing this country and is creating damage that will take decades to reverse. America is being attacked from the inside..inside the White House. People are slowly waking up to the travesty called "health care reform". He has other damaging ideas lined up to follow. The blue states need to get off their backsides and start reigning in their Reps and Senators. Wake up! this train is headed in the wrong direction at high speed. You Blue States can put on the brakes. Just Do It!

Dawn   December 26th, 2009 1:49 am ET

@Glen, you are on point. @Betty Phillips, you sound like a complete idiot with no knowledge of any real facts. I should not even dignify you with a response.

It pains me to read what the mostly White audience has to say about "get over the past" "move on" etc. I would love to move on and never have to think about race again. However, I was reminded of my race at both Ivy League schools I attended when the bursar's office would routinely question my dad's personal checks – which have never once bounced. I am reminded every day of my race not when I look in the mirror, but, when I enter exclusive department stores and get followed around, when I bring and pick up my kids from school at the prestigous upper eastside schools in NYC. I am reminded of my race when my children ask me "why is it the kids want to touch their hair (and they never say White kids, but I know)" "why do the kids in their classes say they are lucky Blacks or not really like Black people." When teachers overwhelmingly try to recruit them for basketball when either of them do not play or even like the sport. One in fact, is a fencer (an engardsman) the other is a talented and recognized equestrain. I am reminded of my race everyday when I enter my office building of my corporate law firm, where I have worked as a partner for 12 years, and still get asked for ID, when my White colleagues are able to walk right through. When, clients come to my office and ask for me, to my face and in the same breath, ask me to take their coats and get them coffe. This is 2009 right? So, for you White people who say we should move past race, get over the past and other ridiculously made comments, I have tried, but I am reminded of my race every day by non Black people such as yourselves.

When you have these every day experiences as many Black people do, then you will understand the need for this dialogue, you see that racism is alive and well, and that we are NOT living in a post racial America just because we have a Black (or half Black) president.

What I do not understand is: White people have inflicted racial strife upon Black people, why is it thought that we (Black people) are the one's who need to put race in the past, get over it and the like we did not create this issue, we only respond to it's creation.

Think about it White people. Think about it.

TexasMan   December 26th, 2009 1:53 am ET

Wow, we sure have lots of ignorant folks in this country. Obviously our educational system really is crap. Maybe the president should let us rot in our own hatred and ignorance. We would deserve it. The man is trying to fix huge problems, and everyone is so wrapped up in their own delusions trying to stop any progress, that they are just burying themselves. We are lucky to be Americans. This country may not be perfect (which country is?), but despite hard times right now, we don't really know what it's like to 'starve'. People starve to death every day, and very few of them in the United States. If you're waiting for a single person (no matter who it is) to change your life for you, you're a moron. Help yourself, then help others. If you're not doing that, you have no right to complain.

I am dissapointed with
the senate and congress also. It is not a race issue.
He is half white also.

Ramses   December 26th, 2009 9:18 am ET

Obama is not failing blacks or any sections of people. Now it is time to think of integrated America. We need to get rid of the feeling & talking whites, blacks, jews, hispanics, europeans & asians. In America or any part of the world it is apparent that every successful individual motivate & act themseves for upward mobility in every aspect of life. "God helps those who help themselves". I have seen multitudes of people of different origins & nationality who have prospered very well in different parts of the world. Don't blame Obama or anybody. There is God in every one of us. Move on.

Valerie   December 26th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Wow. This is our Country and this is our President. We The People of this Country (The United States) and he is the President of the People (of the United States). The last I could recall–The People is you-me-them-us-we///black-white-hispanic etc...... Why can't we allow the President to do his job without pointing out one race. Instead of focusing on race - help in coming up with a solution in that will help our Country around the world. But most of all here in the United States. Stay Positive.

Mary   December 26th, 2009 11:34 am ET

President Obama is trying to help ALL people, he isn't just a black man, his mother was white and his white grandparents raised him. If everyone would quit complaining about him, MAYBE if they would be truthfull with themselves they would realize his is really trying.

Freedom   December 26th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

FREEDOM!!! Where did it go? Who decided to take away my freedoms and hand them to others. Why tax the heck out of me
(over 60% total) leaving me only 40% of which 10% I give to my church. So I have 30% of my money left over – no wonder I don't feel "charitable" anymore. Our Socialist government is giving out money to many deadbeats that don't want to work and never will work. We are a nanny state now and it's getting worse everyday that Obama is running our country. I understand that my taxes will now go up even more under the new Health Care Reform. I will soon give up!!!

Our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw what bondage we allowed ourselves to succumb to. It's a sad day in America – our freedoms are fading...

We can fix the problem. We can CUT SPENDING. Drastically reduce the roll of government, lower taxes on small businesses and we would flourish like we did once upon a time.

Carla   December 26th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Well, Larry, when did you become the expert on how President Obama is failing Blacks in this country without being Black yourself? Most Blacks feel that this country has let them down, so I guess it is easier to pen the blame on the first Black President. Open your eyes, people. and learn to do for yourselves. The people who owe and the people who are owed are dead. As for people with their hands out being primarily black, most need to look around and see how hard it is for everyone – no one is being left out of this particular scenario. Get over being owed or let down. Go out and look for work. My sister has been without a job for nearly 2 years, does qualify for disability but will not pursue it because we were not raised that way. Instead of complaining of not getting your share or of being entitled, just get off your backside and get on with you life.

zeldo   December 26th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

the prez disappointed blacks.
let the blacks stay in school. stop having babies at 13 years of age, stop blasting people in the streets, stop doing drugs, stop drive bys, etc, etc, etc, etc.
look in the mirror.
be productive like millions of other people.
We are sick of giving you welfare and other government sponsored programs.
you have been sucking off the system for generations.
either get with the program or try it on some other country!!!!!!

Boysmom   December 26th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Obama has not only failed the blacks....but the whites, stripes, polka dots et al. Larry, honey, this emphasis on color helps no one. We are all Americans.

As one of the earlier blogger said: the big emphasis on "African American" keeps people separate. We're ALL immigrants somewhere in the past. I'd laugh if someone called me Irish American. And believe me, I am closer to being Irish American than any black person I know is close to being African American. We're talking generations here, folks. Move on. Assimilate. Don't separate. Become part of rather than apart from.

Why would something like this even be a topic? as an African American I never expected him to just be my president nut the president of the entire USA in general. He got elected president that is enough for us, it lets us know that anything we want to be in life we can be. At this point now I am concerned about war, the economy and can he do something to help college students? because the tuition prices are ridiculous.

SFA   December 26th, 2009 8:30 pm ET

You have go to be kidding thinking race is not an issue with this so called president. You have the black community voting for the first time in thier life and stating that they voted for him because he was that isn't racist. Now you have a man in office who is more concerned about what dog to get and travelled to Denmark to sway the people to get the Olympics to Chicago...yet he cannot get in his helicopter and tour the states that have ice storms, flooding and wild fires. He is the first president that has turned his back on this nation. This nation has also stated that because of him the black community has just now shown what they can do....boy what a slap in the face to all the black people who have thier name in medical journals and have done a lot for the community due to thier hard work. You people need to get off of saying that race isn't an issue when the black community screams that they got pulled over speeding, put in jail for robbery, drugs or stealing because they are BLACK. I have lost jobs to black people who have no experience and little education because they are black and God forbid we don't have a black person in a company.

klw   December 26th, 2009 9:10 pm ET

I could not agree more with the last few messages that were posted. As a person of mixed heritage (my mother is Mexican and my father is Caucasian) this interview reminds me of how skewed America's perceptions of race really are. Why do people continually only focus on the "African-American Obama"? I embrace both of my parent's roots and ancestors as I'm sure he does too...I am getting so sick of people trying to make us "pick a side". Just because I look more Hispanic does not mean that I should throw my Caucasian heritage to the wayside which is what I feel people do when they discuss Obama. The important thing, as he said, is that he is trying to keep all of America's needs in perspective. After all, he is the President of the United States not the NAACP.

the President is failing all Americans

Matt   December 26th, 2009 11:43 pm ET

I believe that President Obama has always shown the proper attitude toward this subject by trying to be the president of all the people, not just one specific race or ethnic group. So yes, this headline and subject is way off. However, here in the Seattle area, we are still experiencing very high unemployment and there are a lot of folks who are either out of work or are underemployed. The states are running out of money to pay for the unemployed and the food banks are running out of donations. In the meantime, the banks and the financial institutions are having a great year. And if this health care "reform" bill is passed, the health insurance companies will eventually get another 30 million more customers. This is the real story and not some phony, fake headline about Obama failing the Black Community. We have lost almost 8 millions jobs since this recession began and the economy is not creating or producing new ones fast enough to make any difference. People – this is not about race or color. It's about being able to make a living and to enjoy a decent standard of living.

smh@americans   December 27th, 2009 12:20 am ET

God this just pisses me off. I'm so sick of closed minded people making comments on here about what a "bad" president Mr. Obama is when he HAS NOT BEEN IN THE OFFICE LONGER THEN A DAMN YEAR! It's funny when Bush was in office people was not on his ass about "economic failure" and what he "was not doing" for the country. What you all fail to acknowledge is that this country was headed to dust way before Obama took the threshold. Let the man atleast get ahold of the situations being thrown at him before you judge him on how is "failing america" I am a black college student and I don't believe he is failing America or African Americans. I believe he is doing the best that he can do considering the circumstances that he was elected into. My advice for all you gun-ho people that automatically put Obama in the "bad president" column; you guys should atleast give the man his term before you jump to conclusions and label him as "ruining America".

Could It   December 27th, 2009 1:00 am ET

The President should not favor any race. He is runs the whole country as a whole.

David   December 27th, 2009 2:23 am ET

It’s sad that we still look at the president just as a black man; he is just as white as he is black. Generally speaking, why do blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans always push for affirmative action in the American society? Why is there a option every time I call somewhere for Español and not mandarin, hindi, Arabic, French, etc? People from around the world come to America and find success, through hard work and determination. It’s pathetic that people still use race as a means to get handouts.

Gerald   December 27th, 2009 9:16 am ET

We should not forge that the job of a president is to take decisions that will benefit the people he serves. The people that elected him. I believe the US president is doing a great job. he has a lot to clean up. why should he be scrutinized so seriously? Am not American. I wish i were. I love America. Go to Africa and see what's happening there. I mean Americans should be happy they have a government they can question. Larry should change that Heading immediately as it is not the right question to ask . I believe the black people of America did not vote for B.O to change their lives. Everybody needed a change and change takes time.

Barbara   December 27th, 2009 11:26 am ET

It seems that everything these days is either Black or White. I am an American. Our president is African-American, but he is an American. He is not just for one group of people. He is for ALL people.

Ken   December 27th, 2009 11:58 am ET

This is one of the dumbest questions I have seen, even for CNN. It's the media who keep stirring up the "race" issue. Most folks could care less the color of someone. It's who they are inside and how they act that counts. Get over it CNN and quit stirring up the pot just to be "PC" or get a story.
Obama is supposed to be the president of all Americans. For good or ill, he's got the job, so he needs to get to doing something.

Sunshine   December 27th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

This topic is rediculous. The media puts all this trash in people's heads. Obama is not President for blacks, he is President for all Americans. It is time for blacks to stop this nonsense. They have just as many opportunities. If they refuse them, that's their problem. I am sick of hearing about them.

JOTE AGA   December 27th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

He already won that fight when he became the first elected African American president in history. That itself made a positive impact in the black community across the World. Besides, there is almost nothing that he can do for blacks in this uncertain times for all Americans other than simply being a role model.

Phillip M Johnson   December 27th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

This is a really stupid question. And, why do you TV personalities keep ragging on the man? He's doing the best he can with what he was given. Sometimes I think if he paved the streets with gold, people like you would complain that it wasn't rose gold. Give him a break for Christ's sake!!! Have you forgotten the one we had for the last eight years ?????

donald   December 27th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

This is the most ridiculous article Ive ever seen. President Obama is a gift handed to us as an example of hard work and believing in ones self anything is possible. Was the same question asked of Bushes I and II or Bill Clinton? I clearly understand the challenges our President faces and look to myself to prosper. President Obama is but a guide, a blueprint to gague to get me where I need to go. I would never look to him for a handout and find it insulting that CNN or any other media outlet would suggest as such.

President Obama is the leader of our nation, not just one segment. To suggest otherwise dilutes his value as a leader. I look to our President for inspiration, not my next job or career!!

It is headlines like this and comments like most of these here that remind me that people will not think for themselves. Whatever your political affiliation determines your answer to this question and many others. Not all of us will agree because of our political affiliations. Some are radical, social , right , left, indulgent, you name it. The day big business felt it more important to make more money than the next big business and started shipping jobs to other countries was the downfall of America. This happened many years before President Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. It has all come full circle. The banks and businesses run this country, not President Obama. President Obama is doing what every President has done. He is trying to run this country to the best of his ability with the help of many in his cabinet. He definitely will not fail or succeed without help. .

Thats just insane. Obama is going to feel a LOT of heat for sure – it's in-escapable as he Tries to Stop & address the Nightware created for YEARS by the Right Wing Power structure. The actor who complained that President Obama isn't doing enough for 'Blacks' is totally off his rocker! When one turns on the TV you see blacks on every channel, every second of the day, they’re springing up like daisy in an open field. The Black community feels they’re the only race that has been persecuted. I guess they haven’t read Native American history; they were treated even worse and you don’t see them licking their wounds.

I voted for President Barack Obama and I like him and his family but I’m concern he’s not aggressive enough and now with a terrorist failing to ignite a home made bomb he was carrying on his person, he has said nothing to the American people and Democrats have remained silent. This puzzles me very much!

Barack Obama has failed all Americans, regardless of color.

Let's look at his accomplishments.

He is gonna have Gitmo closed. Now, if we can all survive the potential terrorist attacks during the NYC trials and the relocation of the prisoners to Midwest prisons.

He is gonna get the war in Iraq stopped. Sometime in 2011, would be my bet. Especially since, even before Bush ran for the hills, the Iraqi government signed their own "law" stating that 2011 would be the year they would take over the security and governance of their country.

He is gonna get the economy turned around. Sometime in 2010, amazingly the same year that many economists said the economy would turn around, on its own, without the billions of taxpayer dollars that the government threw at it.

He's gonna get a health care reform bill. It's completely watered down and creates a minimum of true reform, but it's gonna pass. Now, that great reform of the health care industry won't take effect until 2013, but I bet our taxes will increase immediately. Mr. Obama will be able to use the passed bill as a campaign issue even though we won't really know what it's gonna do until after he's reelected.

The sad thing is that, many of you, will vote for him again when he brags in his reelection campaign about all he has accomplished.

Right on "Out of work since spring 2009", the H-1B visa program should be ended. Obama should drop his amnesty plans, Pelosi should drop coverage of illegal aliens in the medical bill. Illegal immigration should be ended by use of E-Verify, serious fines of employers of illegal aliens and even criminal charges for repeat offenders, and the end to all government benefits.

Legal immigration is also way too high, should be dropped from ~1 million annually to under 50,000.

Obama not Black America's President   December 28th, 2009 5:22 am ET

As a black American, it is important for everyone to understand that President Obama is not Black America's President, but he is every American's President. If he focused on Black America, then we would be blogging about President Obama showing preference to Blacks. He is doing a great job of trying to be a fair president across the board.

Mike   December 28th, 2009 8:44 am ET

Obama failing blacks? Obama is failing ALL Americans. People sure got conned by this unqualified rookie and his radical left wing pals. We are going to pay a high price for our folly.

Marie MD   December 28th, 2009 9:04 am ET

Slow news day larry? Did bush fail white people? Oh, never mind, he failed everyone. Not a good choice as an example.
President Obama has tried to do more in one year than his predecesor did in eight years of dictatorship. If the "white" side of Congress wasn't still mad regarding the election he probably could have gotten more done and exactly what the citizens (not including birthers, tea baggers, klan, etc.) want.

Ynotturbo   December 28th, 2009 9:08 am ET

He has failed all of us because he is now Congresses passport for more spending... He will not be re-elected for letting black people down. He will not get re-elected because he let America down. He is soft on terrorist and breaks all his campaign promisses. The black people working everyday like everyone else need to set the right example for those who are not working in the black communities. Welfare and handouts are good for those who need them, but as you have seen, organizations like ACORN are abusing the system and we all get to pay for it. Its not black or white, its America period. Wake up America. Its the Chinese we will be working for eventually...O' ya, kick out the illegal aliens Mr. President. Do the US a huge favor.

Rich   December 28th, 2009 9:20 am ET

I'm a 33 y/o White American who just became homeless last week due to a foreclosure, can not get a job, do not have health insurance and have been to jail for a non violent crime all in the last year. The Afrian American aren't the only ones feeling these terrible times.

Let's stop the race issue by not talking about it. By the way, President Obama is the first BIRACIAL President. In my opinion, shows more unity becasue his parents did not use the "race issue" when they conceived him. And didn't his grandmother riased him?

The real issue is this. This country was founded "Under God". The United States have taken Isreal's birth right away and by the grace of God is why we are such a dominating country not by which man we elect in office. God is angry with us as a nation because we are not recognizing his blessings. Let's try "National Pray and Fasting Day" as a nation and see what happens from there. Or stop spending money on rebuilding Mosques in Iraq and spend money spreading the word of Jesus Christ.

I know this is hard concept for the non believers, because I use to think like you. I am a "Reborn Christian" and have been enlighten by the Holy Spirit and can testify that when I fast and pray, I usually get what I ask for.

God Bless the USA!!!

President Obama has not only failed the African-American community; he has failed all Americans! Pontificating rhetoric will not solve anything. He was hired to do a job based on his promises which he as failed to deliver; he has failed to even attempt fulfulling. He is just another politician that has fooled America. Shame on us! He may be better than the alternative given the 2008 election but he has failed miserably!

Hank   December 28th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Honestly, you have got to be kidding by asking this question. I used to respecr CNN. No more; I have reached my limit on sensationalism. CNN should be ashamed and apologize to the American people for asking such a question. They have done more to hurt Obama by asking such a question than any Republican has done. I cannot adequately express my frustrattion at this approach. Whoever came up with this question needs to be fired.

Gail Duncan   December 28th, 2009 11:10 am ET

We are failing America. Blame, racism, complaining, wastefulness,....ignoring the needs of children......these things start within us. The President and the government should be run by we the people. We should write congress, picket and find solutions to our crumbling society. Solutions are needed and fast. Let us put down our shopping for a second, our complaining, our focus on matrialism and really look at our communities and each other. Race is an issue because we make it so...all of us...when we judge and treat one another differently and not have true equality. Praise jobs that assist the community and it's people so that more young people will pursue this kind of work. The media should revamp and stop pressing the issues of materialism/outward beauty/ and stress respect, love, support for all creatures on this planet. We can do this.

Fred Herrmann   December 28th, 2009 11:51 am ET

Take a good look at every other country where blacks got control away from the whites and what disasters they are. Did we make the same mistake? Time will tell.

Mr WP   December 28th, 2009 11:57 am ET

The prez is on vacation; let not be jumping to any conclusions!

The truth will set us free!

Larry VA   December 28th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

First of all, President Obama is "multi-racial", not African-American. He is just as much white as black. He grew up with a white mother first, in Hawaii (probably interacting mostly with native Hawaiians) then moved with his mother to Indonesia (interacting mostly with Indonesians), then back to Hawaii to live with his white grandparents (again, since not many blacks in Hawaii, mostly with native Hawaiians). Most likely, the first time President Obama interacted on a regular basis with Africa-Americans was when he was an adult and attended college. He has no obligation to work for one ethnic group over another.

kaysera   December 28th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Well I have been impressed by willingness of caucasians, blacks, chinese, indians (east of course, we can ignore others) to get together. But jews I do not see it happening. They are a bit of a problem.

GG   December 28th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Obama supports the African-American community best when he tells kids to stay in school and learn, encourages black men to support their children, and repeats that he is the President for everyone, not just blacks.
In other words he's at his best when he acts like a normal, responsible human being and encourages the African-American community (and everyone else) to follow that example.
Honestly, he basically encourages the same type of behavior my (white) father encouraged. Go to school, study, get a job, work hard. I fail to see the point of this race baiting.

Nika Houston, TX   December 28th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

For those that say he has not only failed black Americans, he has failed all Americans I ask you this; how? When Pres. Obama took office the dow jones had dropped thousands of points due to the deregulation of banks and mortgage companies that allowed them to steal people's savings and run. The country under Bush was thrown into a recession and Pres. Bush's last stand before leaving office was to call an emergency press conference where he begged Congress to bail out the financials, if not we would see a depression not much different from the one FDR dealt with. In just 11 months after all of this calamity Pres. Obama with his decisions has brought the stock market back along with the majority of the savings lost by people when this thing started. He has been trying to get health care overhauled in this country without any cooperation from republicans and even fighting against the wolves in sheeps clothing in his own party. (This is like people fighting against a public school system; I don't get it). He is now instituting programs to get American people working again. The man has been in office 11 months! How has he failed miserably when it only has begun? It still remains to be seen what he will accomplish over the next 3 years. I can't stand the way some people were responsible for burning down the house and want to have so much to say about how it is rebuilt. Get out of the way! As a black person I would also like to say that 95% of blacks voted for Obama as did 95% voted for Clinton. Blacks vote Democrat-period. If Hillary had been the selection she would have received 95% of the black vote also. Don't believe me? Let Michael Steele run as a republican and see just how much black vote he'll get. Don't play blacks for fools. Many of us are poor and uneducated, but we have been dealing with liars and cheaters our whole lives. We can't be deceived by a black face. I can guarantee you, Michael Steele can run as the Republicans pick against a white Democrat and he will NOT get the black vote, no more than sticking Sarah Palin on the ticket garnered McCain the female vote. Obama is a decent man trying to do the right things to better this country. Let's see what he does. If he sends the country to an unnecessary war, presides over a system where the rich can elude taxes and get richer at the expense of the poor, sits back while banks fail while their CEOs pocket millions, then I can get on board the "he is destroying our country" band wagon. Until then, I will give him a chance to try and right some of these wrongs.

Mufasa   December 28th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Funny how African-Americans were quick to claim that President Obama's election was a boost for the African-American community, but when he "fails" it's wrong to identify him with that same group. It's not white, hispanic, or any other hyphenated American that wears shirts, buttons, and stickers on their vehicles worshiping the image of a man. It's African Americans. So, when he fails, who is he most likely to let down? Those who recognize him as simply a man, or those who hold him up as the hope for an entire demographic? Have "HOPE" in YOURSELF!!! Don't wait on someone to do something for you, do it for YOURSELF!!! Then, when Obama fails to deliver, it's nothing more than that. It's time for Americans to return to the root of what made America great. It was the people of the United States (ALL nationalities) that made us great, not the latest government entitlement. We will ALL fail if we don't soon realize this. answer your question. Yes, Obama is failing the African-American community. Same as he's failing every other American when he's more consumed with his own image and legacy instead of all of us. We should all be upset at this point. 25% of his elected period is over. What do we have to show for it? A Nobel prize? A black President? We need more than that.

PrestonW   December 28th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

I am not African-American. Just American. This African-American thing has gone too far!!! I know nothing about Africa, have never spent one minute there, and am not being failed by Presdent Obama or anyone else for that matter. Been here all my life and have survived Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Johnson, Kennedy, both Bushes, Carter, Clinton, and Wanda Sykes. My trick for survival is based on a few fundamentals:
(1) Stayed married to the same woman for over 40 years
(2) Worked like a dog for over 40 years with only 2-week vacations each of those 40 years or so.
(3) Never dabbled in drugs or perscription medications
(4) Stayed clear of both white and black people whom I deemed to pose a threat to me both personally or economically.
(5) Paid my taxes so as to stay clear of the IRS.

Following these life fundamentals has made me immune from whoever has been in the Presidency in Washington.

Mufasa   December 28th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

I've been reading the posts and have come to a conclusion. We should change the name of our country. We have become:

"The Disjointed States of The Offended"

Grow up people. To the Bigoted Whites and Blacks, you are both idiots. I have a message for you all.

White People – First of all, he IS the President so get over it. And he's black, not half white/half black. Yeah, I know...but you would have treated him as black if he showed up at your house 4 years ago, so don't get self righteous now. Give him the same respect for the position as you did Bush, even when you don't agree. Disagree with respect. It's time for that to happen and you will start to understand why you're not trusted. Listen for a change.

Black People – Really...everything is NOT racism. If someone doesn't like Obama (or you for that matter) don't assume it's race. Most of you do more to keep racism alive than white folks do. And Obama is just a man. He CAN be wrong! You should hold him to a higher standard than anyone. Let's be honest, you're expecting more from him than anyone else. And ask yourself, would he be President if all he did was sit and wait on the government to bail him out???

If you both would shut up and listen for a little bit, you both might learn something. Respect history and heritage for what it is, and realize that dwelling on either is not the answer and won't solve the difficult problems of today.

And for those of you who haven't gotten past the question of MY race(which make you a racist)...yes, I am...both.

Shaddy   December 28th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

What have you done to make this a better country? Give the man a chance. You gave Bush 8 years, lets give Obama his 4. Quit your damn crying!

Asawyer   December 28th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

Whoever made the statement about the President serving all people not just blacks said it all. I think the President is doing just as well or better than the President we had for the last term. Remember when Obama became President the economy was already screwed up.

Torrey Dixon   December 28th, 2009 7:12 pm ET

The statement is not absurd. It is a fair question. Blacks, like other Americans, played a part in electing Obama. He made appeals to the African American community and won with African American votes. Therefore, it is fair to ask if he is failing them the same way that it would have been fair to ask "Is Clinton failing the African American community?" when he was president. Also, when did we decide that leading America is something different from leading African Americans and that protecting African American interests is something different from protecting American interests?
