Cheney slams Obama for projecting 'weakness'

On the eve of the unveiling of the nation’s new Afghanistan policy, former Vice President Dick Cheney slammed President Barack Obama for projecting “weakness” to adversaries and warned that more workaday Afghans will side with the Taliban if they think the United States is heading for the exits.

In a 90-minute interview at his suburban Washington house, Cheney said the president’s “agonizing” about Afghanistan strategy “has consequences for your forces in the field.”

“I begin to get nervous when I see the commander in chief making decisions apparently for what I would describe as small ‘p’ political reasons, where he’s trying to balance off different competing groups in society,” Cheney said.

“Every time he delays, defers, debates, changes his position, it begins to raise questions: Is the commander in chief really behind what they’ve been asked to do?”

Obama administration officials have complained ever since taking office that they face a series of unpalatable — if not impossible — national security decisions in Afghanistan and Pakistan because of the Bush administration’s unwavering insistence on focusing on Iraq.

But Cheney rejected any suggestion that Obama had to decide on a new strategy for Afghanistan because the one employed by the previous administration failed.

Enough of Dick Cheney “THE DEFERMENT KING”.

I am tired of politicians making decisions, who have never been to war.

When Cheney became eligible for the draft, during the Vietnam War, he applied for and received five (5) draft deferments. In 1989, The Washington Post writer George C. Wilson interviewed Cheney as the next Secretary of Defense; when asked about his deferments, Cheney reportedly said, "I had other priorities in the '60s than military service”

Before he opens his mouth one more time, He needs to join our troops over in Afghanistan for 6 months along with the rest of his family. There will be NO MORE DEFERMENTS! Maybe then he would have a better and more concrete perspective of war, that is, if he lives through it!

Dodie is correct ! absolutely !...

@Dodie, you are absolutely right on target.

Cheney is a certified COWARD in my opinion. Dick Cheney was overly willing to send brave American men and women to their deaths while he himself was hunkering down in a underground bunker thru much of his Bush-Cheney administration.

Cheney is a typical Big Oil puppet bean-counter. His corporate buddy's made billions of additional US taxpayer dollars thru his direction while America's infra-structure sank into dilapidation.

Remember this is the lieing rat that told the US Congress and US Senate the Trillion dollar Iraqi War would cost American Taxpayers a total of 50 Billion. Not even the US Govt. puts up with a cost over-run of 950 Billion dollars, he would have been fired in a heart-beat.

Yes his defense contractor buddies profits dramatically increased, while the entire US Economy slid off the road and into the abyss.

Dick Cheney's big corporate sponsors stand to lose hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars if America pulls out of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Dick Chaney should remain quiet. America had never been weaker during his administration's cow boyish foreign policy. They screwed this up. Obviously, what they did failed.... Let's try a different perspective, Mr Chaney... Retire go shooting or something!

Since Cheney is so critical of President Obama and spouts such venom, why does the media let him go without asking him questions that remain from his reign in the white house? The media should ask him questions and yet they let him go without question. Why is the media not doing their job again. The media allowed Bush/Cheney to reign without question. Yet they never let up on President Obama. You donot need to fear Bush/Cheney anymore–now media get to work.

The more Cheney talks, the more one really wonders what went on in his 'secret/undisclosed location" and why he remained so quiet. Take that back, maybe we know why now he was kept quiet– he would have appeared to have lost his marbles if he spoke as he is now.

Can't someone return him to that location so we don't have to listen to him spout his venum?
