Mother of Shaniya Davis May Have Owed Kidnapper Money

Posted: 06:56 PM ET

Note: Larry King Live will have the latest updates on the murder of Shaniya Davis.

by Jason Taylor via

Information is surfacing that Antoinette Davis, the mother accused of selling her daughter Shaniya Davis into prostitution, may have owed drug money to the man accused of kidnapping the 5-year-old.

Reports indicate the mother and the accused kidnapper, Mario Andrette McNiell, knew each other, hung out together and there was a supposed drug debt between them that needed to be paid.

Authorities, acting on what they called “reliable information,” found Shaniya’s body in a heavily wooded area off of a North Carolina highway on Monday. The girl was reported missing from her Fayetteville, NC mobile home park around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Her mother says she last saw the girl that morning around 5:30 a.m. Shaniya was seen shortly after at a hotel with McNeill, 29, who was arrested and according to police confessed to her kidnapping.

Authorities have also arrested the mother, who is reported to be pregnant, for human trafficking, child abuse involving prostitution and filing a false police report. Cops are also alleging that drugs were being sold out of her house.

Police are planning to file additional charges in the case but are waiting until the issue of jurisdiction is resolved. It is believed that once investigators determine where Shaniya was killed then authorities will know which county will be prosecuting the case.

Andrea Davis needs to spend the rest of her life behind bars for what she did to such a sweet looking child. She did not deserve to have any children. God bless Shanyia. She is is much better place.

This story breaks my heart and it is further evidence that morality and basic human decency is in decline in America. Sadly, stories like this one are daily occurences. Whether, its child abduction, sexual assault, serial murder, domestic violence, teen murders and burning their classmates alive or gang rapes and beating deaths-children, families and the youth today are in a downward spiral of despair. Our "looking out for number one" and I am entitled to what ever I want generation isn't going away.

Death Penalty for all of them

Claus   November 19th, 2009 11:14 pm ET

@ckelly-I agree totally with your comments. And, unfortunately, as a country we are trying to come up with a way to be sure they get everything to which they feel they are entitled. Very sad.

This just doesn't add up and I think that we will soon find that we are dealing with an over zealous prosecutor that will be so focused on one suspect that all others will not be available once the one currently focused on is removed. You don't sell your child for sex then call the police and report her missing, never trying to coverup. This lady is an addict with no criminal record.
And if the drug-dealer kidnapped the child then how can she be given up for sex? Or if she was given up for sex(human trafficking) then how can she be kidnapped? Can't be both!!!!!!
The investigators know what hotel room that the drug dealer and child were in and there should be plenty of evidence of semen and other types of DNA in the room but why haven't we heard anything to that effect.
Don't be so quick to judge all the facts are out. Remember Jon Benet and her poor mother, we killed her due to our premature judgment and witch-hunt!

@Ms Lewis

The child's feces was found on the door knob and the rail at the trailer home. MacNeil is on tape half an hour after the mom" discovered" the little girl missing from the home at a hotel. He is the ex-boyfriend of mom's sister. If the child was given over for child trafficking and the father is unaware ( the legal custodian) isn't that kidnapping?

The police had MacNeil in custody and he admitted to taking the child for the purposes of transferring her for sex. He was not charged right away-he was charged after the child was found dead and an autopsy was completed. Her blanket was also found covered in feces. I am sure this isn't a "conspiracy".

I know this is a awful lose of this wonderful little girl. and such a waste but we don't know the hell this little went through and she might be better off away from that so called mother. My heart and prayers go out to your father, and the friends and family.

What a beautiful little angel! I pray that God haves mercy on their soul! How could someone hurt an innocent child? How could anyone?

vitoria   November 20th, 2009 2:16 am ET

I can't sleep just to think about this Angel and what she went through
with that monster and her disgraced mother .
no worlds to described this horrific crime , why are we waiting for ?
Anyone that is going to have children should go through test for mentally
capacity tolerance and drugs tolerance , simply as that !
How many more children will have to die so the law makers will start to reform this falling system ?
Shame on anyone that noticed any wrong behavior of the MOTHER
and turned their heads , maybe her life could have been saved !

Jessica   November 20th, 2009 3:51 am ET

I'm a 23 year old mother of 1. My beautiful baby means the absolute world to me. I could NEVER imagine letting anything like this happen to her. How on earth could a mother let something like that happen? I just don't understand it.

Sick, sick, sick !! We really need to be more ready and willing to not only sentence the death penalty....we need to get rid of garbage like these people (term used lightly) God hold you close, Shaniya, and may the people that did this to you rot in Hell.

karrie   November 20th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

I have two words, CAPITAL PUNISHMENT!. ...What is this world coming to when a parent will sell/give an innocent child away knowing full well what is going to happen to him/her. It is absolutley disgusting! and what the hell is wrong with people who want to or even consider having sex with a child! Oviously there is something very wrong in their heads and I don't think jail time will cure it ! I honestly think that for any sex crimes or murder the answer should be execution, especially when these crimes are happening to innocent children. why should the tax payers be paying thousands of dollars keeping these people in jail healthy and safe when they have commited such repulsive crimes. Children are innocent ,beautiful gifts from God, they are our future,We need to protect them, there really needs to be more serious penalties for people who violate children....Capital Punishment ...people will think twice(maybe even three times) before commiting these sick crimes.

angela   November 20th, 2009 9:12 pm ET

when i hear these stories i just cringe at the type of people having kids today. we need to restrict some people from bearing children. we arent suppost to profile but some things are just so obvious.

Dodie   November 21st, 2009 12:14 am ET

This tragic event brings up the issue that this woman & others like her should never have children. I find her current pregnancy very disconcerting.

Dodie   November 21st, 2009 12:26 am ET

@ angela.

I completely agree with you; however, in a democracy, it is like walking a tightrope when you tell a target population, they cannot have children. That is one area which is a little disconcerting, everyone has rights including those who have behaved very badly like serial killers, women who sell their young children for sex. It is very sad.

carol kesling   November 21st, 2009 4:52 am ET

god bless this little angel.... this monster and her mom should be put in general population before they get the death penalty.... just watching those 2 in court made me sick... i think i actually saw the guy grin !!!! god if i could only have 5 minutes with that animals....

dawnmarie   November 23rd, 2009 8:44 am ET

It is a very very sad time for the familiy of the little girl, my heart goes out to the father and other relative. Every night I pray for ALL the children of the world for things like this it breaks my heart to know that children go through such evil circumstances. This is such an evil crime, the other parent, sorry to call her the child's mother she should face the full arm of the law court and no mercy for that her. I am so angry my heart hurts, that little child had to suffer and the person responsible for their action should be castrated and put to law courts.
