BREAKING NEWS: Balloon lands; boy not found

Posted: 03:50 PM ET

(CNN) - A runaway balloon has touched down in Colorado after a 6-year-old boy untied it from his family home in Fort Collins.

The dome-shaped balloon is 20 feet long and 5 feet high, Larimer County Sheriff's Office says.

The dome-shaped balloon is 20 feet long and 5 feet high, Larimer County Sheriff's Office says.

The boy was not inside the helium aircraft when it landed, CNN affiliate KMGH reported.

A sibling saw the boy get into the craft Thursday morning. Officials were concerned that the boy may have fallen out of it, an undersheriff said.

Margie Martinez of the Weld County Sheriff's Office said a sibling saw Falcon Heene climb into the basket before the balloon took off from his parents' Fort Collins, Colorado home.

Since the door on the balloon was unlocked, it's possible the boy had fallen out, Martinez said.

The balloon appeared to be a saucer-shaped, Mylar-coated helium balloon, similar to a party balloon. The craft was drifting eastward, authorities said.

I just saw the balloon and it seem it is completely sealed. How was the boy suppose to climb into the balloon? Wouldn't the father have know that it was still sealed and no way for the child to crawl in or if the seal was broken would it be able to hold the hillium? I just the boy is ok.

he is totally hiding and in deeeep trouble. I bet he untethered the balloon by accident (touching something he should not have) and is hiding somewhere....big time trouble 🙂

Well it seems there was a box attached to the balloon and it is missing now.

What great news! I know some boys who are big trouble tonight!

Interesting that the parents didn't inform anyone at the beginning of this travesty about the "missing" basket/box. They knew the entire time that the kid was not on the balloon. What a joke.

Hi Wolf,
Little Falcon replied to your question earlier that he stayed in the attic because he was told to because they were doing it "for a show"...please ask the boy what he meant by that! Thanks.
