Gun-toting soccer mom, husband shot dead

Posted: 10:28 PM ET

(CNN) - Soccer mom Melanie Hain, who made national headlines last year by having a loaded, holstered handgun at her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game, has been found shot dead in her home along with her husband, police said Thursday.

Melanie Hain was found shot dead in her home along with her husband Thursday.

Information from 911 calls shows that it took a SWAT team nearly an hour and a half to gain entry to the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, home Wednesday evening. Inside, they found the bodies of Hain, 31, and her husband, Scott, 33, police Capt. Daniel Wright said.

Police have avoided labeling the incident a murder-suicide. However, they do not believe that another person was involved, Wright said. A full investigation is under way, he added.

"Who [Melanie Hain] is does not change the course of this investigation," he said. The autopsies are scheduled for Friday.

Melanie Hain's attorney, Matthew B. Weisberg, said she told him a few months ago that she and her husband were separating. It was not immediately clear whether they were still living together.

The couple's three children were unharmed and took refuge at a neighbor's house before police arrived, Wright said, and the children remain in a neighbor's care.

During the incident, police told neighbor Ann DiJohnson to avoid rooms with windows in fear of a possible shootout.

"It was frightening," DiJohnson said. "I'm still shaking."

Didn't look good wearing a gun like that to a children's soccer game. Do they need that kind of protection now.

It is such a tragedy that this has happened. Thank the Lord that their children were spared. My heart goes out to them all and the families.

"It's shocking and sadly ironic." Well put Mr. Weisberg. Always sad when the weapons people carry exceed the size and capacity of their brains. It is also sad, when people get their sense of importance and self-esteem, only when there are guns around. A widely spread condition throughout the US.

Even without guns murder/suicides happen.

In Canada, a place without a lot of guns-couples who kill each other and themselves find all sorts of methods-Its the murderous intent and not the weapon itself. I believe heavy ashtrays and knives are still the most common murder weapon in Canada.

Real news solution for the war in Afganistan right here

I say get out all those buff prisoners from every state theres about one million and half of them im sure.

Pick the ones who are willing to have their records expunged, and those who are rehabilitated, and who will fight for their countries.

Give them one task , to fight and kill the Taliban and Osama.

Send them all on foot with weapond and let them hike through those mountains, and fight the Taliban head on.

I bet they would kick some “Arse”

Theres plenty of cholos gangsters, bloods, crips, and neo nazi skin heads that would proudly do the job.

Send the prisoners over there. This would solve two problems.

who the hell cares about Jon and Kate? we are at war

Wow having guns in the house sure makes us safer huh? No no Jessie your right the message here is always have a gun loaded with the safety off.. ohh and better yet dont sleep just stare with your gun aimed at the door. I love how gun activists can turn anything into a reason why we need more guns 🙂

CKelly your a Canadian you don't know anything about Murder, I live in Oakland California I am 22 and the leading cause of death in my city for someone my age is MURDER. So shut your mouth you have no idea what terror it is to hear gunnshots ringing every single night and someone is killed like 4 times a week. And now we are learning that US guns are being exchanged for mexican drugs fueling the drug war. But no the answer is definately more guns right, so you'll by a 9mm they have fully automatic AK 47's and thats no BS, so whats next you get an anti-aircraft gun?

Its seems its the nasty attitude and sense of entitlement to do and say what ever you want to another???? is behind the hand holding the gun hmmmm? hmmmm?

We have murder in Canada, especially greater vancouver-there is gang war but there is also domestic murder (like in the states) with no guns involved. There has been shooting on my street (drugs) and there was a guy last year that ran from restaurant to restaurant, randomly hitting innocent women in the head with a hammer and then running off to another restaurant.

drug dealers/criminals killing criminals and family members killing family members.

I am not convinced that guns themselves are the cause.
