Jackson Felt 'Young' at 50, Never Reached 51

Posted: 11:33 AM ET

art.jacksontour1Michael Jackson may be gone, but that won't stop thousands of fans from around the world from celebrating the King of Pop on what would have been his 51st birthday.

Only a year ago, on the eve of his 50th birthday, Jackson was planning a much more low-key celebration of cake and cartoons with his three children when he spoke with ABC News' Chris Connelly exclusively by phone from his home in California.

In Jackson's final television interview before his death on June 25, the pop superstar dropped hints of a comeback in the works. He boasted about still having his signature moves – and showing off some new ones – saying his greatest achievements lay ahead.

Jackson died as he was mounting his comeback tour in London, doing what he told Connelly he loved the most: performing.

Sure CNN give us another one to write on... Hear it goes.... Yeah Michael can't have Cake and watch Cartoons with his Children cause he had to Do this Hoax so he could in the Future have cake and watch cartoons with his children..... Remember you Media caused him not to enjoy his 51 birthday....

Mara   August 28th, 2009 11:43 am ET

You damn straight it's not going to stop us from celebrating! Tomorrow is his bday and the world will be celebrating!

read my other blogs on CNN....all on Michael

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 11:54 am ET

so you dont beleive he is gone

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 11:57 am ET

The media is partly responsible for Micheael's death. Now his childen are without a father.

We love you Michael

Diane in Minneapolis   August 28th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Thank you for posting a positive story about Michael. The interview was a good read and shows who he is. I am slightly older than Michael but I am in good shape and am still a kid at heart. It is one of his most endearing qualities.

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

BTW–I do like the article–Thank you CNN

Just mad that the media abused him so much when he was alive.

Mary U from Ohio   August 28th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

angelswings..... no not really... even my kid don't think so....Remember we haven't seen Michael since the trial... I think he just want to be able to enjoy life now..... he is going on 51.... time to sit back and enjoy his own music and to go place that he couldn't do as a child...

Remember there are many faces of Michael... I'll explain later....

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 12:08 pm ET

I'm a kid a heart too–also slightly older than Michael–that is one of the things that always endeared me to Michael also. I would've loved to have a waterballon fight with him–what fun that would have been?

Gloria   August 28th, 2009 12:10 pm ET

I could hear him speaking the printed words... what a kind and gentle man he was... very caring.... and thanks CNN... try to get some positives out there for the Jackson children to see about their "Daddy"....
Now, let's get the Coroner's written report which we all know will be "accidental drug overdose" causing cardiac arrest.... and the Doc will get a slap on his wrist (from the medical board) and life will go on LA Style... this swept under the rug, while the criminals do business as usual..... very sad.... JMO

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 12:10 pm ET

Mary omg Iam 100%behind you on this last night I watched on youtube michael jackson media death hoax omg I believe I sure hope he is with his family and going on with life..............

Eli, Jerusalem/Israel   August 28th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

I had hoped he would end up in movie directing.

Lori   August 28th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

Michaej Jackson will always be the King of Pop. He is legend and legends never die. His legacy lives now and forever. Wherever you are on 29 August, Michael, I know that you will be enjoying yourself. Thank you for everything you brought to the world. 🙂

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

maryu–you really believe this?

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

Michael I will be partying with you Sweetheart.

Diane in Minneapolis   August 28th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Linda – YES! ME too. Hell I still have water fights and I love to throw food – MJ liked to throw food, too. I am also known as a prankster. Anything childiish and I'm right there. No wonder we both have a love child of MJ's.

Diane in Minneapolis   August 28th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

Eli –

I am with you on that one. He said many times that he was interested in film. I think he might have evolved in that direction. No matter how young you feel......2.5 hours straight performances on tour would nail you. It would make anyone tired tired. Even the best athletes.

Mary U from Ohio   August 28th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

angelswings......Do you get it....everything that has happen.... and why.... this is why the informer comes back every now and then... listen to him....

Eli, Jerusalem/Israel   August 28th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

There is so much info going on since he died, but I read somewhere he indeed was working on some script or so. I really would have loved to see him develop in that way. He might have find some more peace then.

I watched the History tour lately and even in 1997 it was already much harder for him than before. You could see it in his face and moves.

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

oooooooo I do Mary hope informer comes bck soon with more to say

Mary U from Ohio   August 28th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

lindafromnewyork.. read my blog at the Michael Jackson still alive... five reason to think again....

Gloria   August 28th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Katherine is in court today as well on her safe harbor Petition that is also posted on the TMZ website. Just an FYI to anyone following the estate proceedings....
I haven't done a bit of work today....oh my!!!!

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

Eli he was he was doing some thing for a man i will look but it was on youtube 2 or 3 yrs ago

Diane in Minneapolis   August 28th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Eli –

Can you imagine with his genius and sensibilities what kind of movie he would make? Of course he would do the soundtrack and.....he wouldn't settle until he won an Oscar.

beth   August 28th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

Why did the Jackson's come forth with the heroin information? I get the feeling they do not want Murray to be singled out for Michael's death? That information was damaging to wasn't even heroin.

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

@beth–I don't get it either-why? sometimes I just don't understand them.

Lori   August 28th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

I wonder if the coroner's report will be another bombshell? Maybe cause of death will be something totally unexpected. I do wish they had waited until after his birthday...its been so long now, what would a few more days matter?

mariau   August 28th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

Michael is always young at heart.. we love you Michael

lindafromnewyork   August 28th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

@Lori–I know–what's one more day–

Eli, Jerusalem/Israel   August 28th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

I think I heard it was not some sort of Star Wars or Peter Pan topic, but something adult, like environment or poverty. I will see if I can find it.

Eli, Jerusalem/Israel   August 28th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

we will not hear the full autopsy report but the cause of death. so it is unlikely some hidden problems which are not directly connected to his death may be kept secret.

Diane in Minneapolis   August 28th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

Eli –

That sounds right to me. He would definitely do that genre and it would be Award-worthy If you find it that would be great.

Lori   August 28th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

I know Eli. I was saying that I wondered if the cause of death would be something unexpected.

Gloria   August 28th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

Where is TI when you need him/her?
Wish I had some inside information as to what is going to be revealed... I just have a "gut feeling" that I am not going to like it....
It's gloomy in Pittsburgh today.... I will work after the Coroner's announcement.... oh I pray its good news for MJ and that the Dr is in a tight spot... trying to keep good thoughts....
until then...

Mary U from Ohio   August 28th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

Remember after the Coroner came out on June 25 or 26 after giving the report and said the Toxicologist report will take 4 to 6 weeks... Hello it's way past 6 weeks what do they think we are is taking them this long to scheme up the cause of death...

Mary U from Ohio   August 28th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

The cover for the Movie will be Michael Stepping on the Media..
Title... This is it. ..You ain't seen nothing yet..

Mary U from Ohio   August 28th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

I'm copyrighting what i just wrote above before CNN or someone else uses it.

Eli, Jerusalem/Israel   August 28th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Diane, I don't want to think about it, it makes me sad. It would have been wonderful Michael would have smashed all his critics down with a beautiful and moving documentary or film. He deserved that!

Diane in Minneapolis   August 28th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

Thanks for that Eli. That topic makes a lot of sense too. It would have been a good one because he poors his heart and experience into everything. Mockingbird is one of my favorite movies and books as well.

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

lol Mary how true

Lori   August 28th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

Maybe The Informer will make an appearance tonight. He/she should know that this will be a tough day, and that we will be ready for some fantasy on the blogs tonight. 🙂

Kara   August 28th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

Here is what I hope, I truely hope that his children create and continue a tradition on the day of their fathers birthday. It will always be rough, but the first and second without him will be the worst. I hope that they create and continue the tradition of what they did last year with him. Cake and Cartoons!!! This will be a tradition that they could conitnue even once they are grown and have families of their own.

I will surely be thinking of them tomorrow.

Maureen (UK)   August 28th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

Michael was young at heart, but full of wisdom & still looking great at 50.

Brigida, Italy   August 28th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

thank you Larry and CNN! Finally here is it! A beautiful interview.

I'm also 50... almost 51. But why should we feel old??? 😉
In our hearts, even if we were 90, we can still feel like kids!

Jacquelyn   August 28th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Michael died inside along time ago, way before June 25, because of the media and vultures.

Lori   August 28th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Mariau, This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wish the whole world could read this. Did you write this yourself? Or was it the people you listed at the end?

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

Eli, Jerusalem/Israel   August 28th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Exactly Jacquelyn. He probably started to die after Bashir and the last drop was in court.

Gloria   August 28th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Eli, Jacquelyn, you are so sadly right!

thank you Mariau to share this with us 🙂

Ivana V   August 28th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

If there is anything i will wish for in the matter of Michael,is for him to be alive! (as so many sources are saying). Can it be true?? What we see on Youtube, him coming out from the coroner's van?? Or his body moving in helicopter before landing?? Is it possible?? Or is it just some morons are trying to make money?! But If that's the case...and he is still alive, then it's going to be an Affair Of The Century!!

Larry, could you maybe shade some light on this theory, please?

akshara   August 28th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

wht everyone feared

angelswings   August 28th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Kara   August 28th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Ivana V....

This would so not be the case... sorry... as for the whole body moving thing... that actually happens to every one who dies. Your nerves continue to twitch after your death (not sure for how long) and it is even known that with some, a final, final breath can take place due to all air being forced out of the body.

This is just gimicks to get people to continue reading and buying...

stu   August 28th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

I dont know, why not this report come in,whenn we click on,but here you can see,how would look Michael without changeings and without vitiligo.

FARAH   August 28th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

Michael died inside along time ago, way before June 25, because of the media and vultures. Jacquelyn

U r so right Jacquelyn

FARAH   August 28th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Very good video. Thanks

Sheletta   August 28th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

You know something, I do not understand some of the comment's about Michael. Some among us really do not believe that Michael is dead. Do people really think that Michael would pull an stunt like this, just to get Headlines? I think not. Why would he even put his children or better yet his mother through something like this.

I know Michael likes a good Joke once in a while, but this type of thing is not a Joke.... No one can get me to believe that Michael would treat or be that cruel to anyone. Not even to his fans, whom he love very much.

If he wanted to freak his death, it could had been something much quieter.

Patty Anderson   August 28th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Hi everyone. I just saw the news

Maureen (UK)   August 28th, 2009 6:40 pm ET

Hi Patty
BTW as we're 5 hours ahead it will be the 29th in 20 minutes here. I can wish MJ a happy birthday before everyone else !

TJ   August 28th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

OMG! Michael was always young at heart and he did look young for a man in his 50s! How many men can move and dance like him...'fraid not! Some are already suffering from a variety of physical ailments such as arthritis, obesity, and lack of exercise.

It was so tragic that Michael didn't live long enough to do other things he planned after the "This Is It" concert tour. He had plans and dreams in the makings and was so excited to share them with his siblings and nephews.

The sad thing is that we have no idea when God is going to take us Home. He is the only who is in control of our lives..he decides if we are going to live or die. God will never cheat us when it comes to our time line...he will take us at the exact moment..exact date..exact age..exact time even if we have not finished our plans here on earth. It was MJ's time to go Home and God needed him there. God saw enough of Michael's sufferings, loneliness, unhappiness, and how his soul had been tortured for years that it was time to take him away from all this mess! Michael is in a much better place where he could finally find peace and happiness. I am sure his spirit is with his family when he's needed and try to help them sort out the chaos that are taking place right now. Michael died so unexpectedly that he left his business in disarray and now, his family is plowing through to sort things out and make some semblance on this predicament.

Maureen (UK)   August 28th, 2009 7:03 pm ET

Happy Birthday Michael ! It's 29th here now !

Mion   August 28th, 2009 7:05 pm ET

I think at the age of 50, Michael Jackson looked great. Love goes out to Michael and his family. May they all celebrate his life tomorrow.

“MOTHER”, by Michael Jackson

Eons of time I’ve been Gestating
To take a form been hesitating
From the unmanifest this cosmic conception
On this earth a fantastic reception
And then one fateful August morn
From your being I was born
With tender love you nurtured a seed
To your own distress you paid no heed
Unmindful of any risk and danger
You decided upon this lonely stranger

Rainbows, clouds, the deep blue sky
Glittering birds that fly on high
Out of fragments you’ve made me whole
From the elements you fashioned my soul
Mother dear, you gave me life
Because of you, no struggle or strife
You gave me joy and position
Cared for me without condition
And if I ever change this world
Its from the emotions you’ve unfurl’d
Your compassion is so sweet and clear
Your finest feelings I can hear

And now that I have come so far
Met with every kind and czar
Encountered every color and creed
I go back to that starry night
With not a fear for muscle or might
You taught me how to stand a fight
For every single wrong and right
Every day without a hold
I will treasure what you’ve mold
I will remember every kiss
Your sweet words Ill never miss

No matter where I go from here
Youre in my heart, my mother dear.

Enjoy reading Alice in Wonderland in heaven – listening to Chopin and Beethoven Im sure – sitting in a big beautiful tree, reserved for you 51 years ago – fantasizing – looking over the beautiful peaceful fields of silver, gold and green. Youre at home now. Your first happy birthday.

Quote regarding "Young at 50":

I am told that the film (Sony) is coming along nicely in the editing room. Every day director Kenny Ortega shows assembly of footage to a variety of producers involved in the project. The word is that everyone is very happy with what they're seeing. Most importantly, they do say that we'll see Michael giving cogent instructions to dancers and singers, and interacting with his crew and cast. This should end once and for all the accusations that Jackson was out of it to perform, or to do the shows in London."

Maureen (UK)   August 28th, 2009 9:41 pm ET

Anthony Smith, who bloggs here sometimes, shared a letter from one of MJ's dancers to an MJ fan club. She said that MJ spoke to the dancers about his worries etc.

Susan   August 28th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Maureen (UK):

I wonder if that dancer was part of the 02 Concert? All the 02 Concert employees were required to sign confidentiality agreements.

Katirina   August 29th, 2009 3:49 am ET

The greatest entertainer ever..awesome singer, wonderful dancer and a kind philantrophist..cannot believe he's gone too soon..
At 50,when he had so much more to show..he was taken away from us..nevertheless,he'll always remain in our hearts and his music lives on..May he rest in peace..The King of Pop was,is and will always be the greatest..he was a perfect talent..a musical genius..wish he was here to celebrate his 51st..

cindelafrance   August 29th, 2009 7:29 am ET

Lets not forget, that today ..Is MICHAEL'S Birthday
He would have been 51 years young...A Beautiful
shining star, taken from us way to young ....
Lets all celebrate Gods wonderful creation ..
in the streets "No matter where you are" this musical

Maureen (UK)   August 29th, 2009 7:49 am ET

Susan Re: Dancer
Yes, she was one of the 02 dancers. I think someone said there's an archive blog. If so it would be possible to see Anthony Smith's letter. I'll try & find out but sometimes blogs are removed.

Stu   August 29th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Sheletta,i agree with you.If he whanted to fake hes death, thann would be not kace of homoside...

Nancy Endari   August 29th, 2009 11:46 am ET

It was really sad, shameful and disgraceful how medias used to portray Michael and treated him like he was not a human being. I hope from now on, medias learn something from this tragic loss and have some respect and concern over his children and family. They too have a life

jdf from holland   August 29th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Terrie   August 29th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

The world is wishing MJ a Very Happy 51st Birthday! If Conrad Murray just didn't mess up with MJ's life , Michael still be with us and could bust those dance moves and sing fantastically! I always wondered if he had lived, Michael could have done more creative things with his brothers, children, and nephews after the "This Is It" London concert. He could had been the mentor for the younger Jackson boys who want to follow in his footsteps.

Kara   August 29th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

I truly believe that when your time has come and you are once again united with God you are at that time what you have longed to be... For Michael, I truly believe that he is now the child he longed to be and will be now for all eternity. This poems says exactly what I think he is doing today, on his first birthday spent in heaven...

I heard you crying yesterday
And felt your heart-sent love
So I’m sending you this message
Now, from Heaven up above.

You’re wondering if I’ll celebrate
My birthday (way up here)
I know you’re missing me today
I feel your essence near.

God planned a special day for me
He told me with a wink
He’d ordered me a special cake
(It’s Angel food, I think)

I’m getting lots of hugs from God
He’s really good at that
And every time that I walk by
He gives my head a pat

Balloons will fill the streets for me
They float up through the clouds
And we have lots of clowns up here
That make us laugh out loud

There is a birthday carousel
Jeweled horses ride the wind
With music playing oh so sweet…
The magic never ends

I’ve made so many friends, you see
We laugh and play and sing
We ride our bikes and play jump rope
And sleep in Angel’s wings

We’ll have our cake and ice cream
And open gifts, surprise!
But we don’t blow out our candles here
Instead, they light the skies

TJ   August 29th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Kara– I agree with you. MJ's time came for him to go Home...a Home where he will be find happiness he had been longing for and free from all the pains he suffered while here on earth. At Home, he'll be at peace with God, will be a child again, and will live on forever....there will be no more death for Michael! His grandparents, his other kinfolks, brother Brandon, and his favorite pets who have gone before him have already met up with him and is now one Big Happy Jackson Family Reunion on the Other Side , celebrating his 51st Birthday! Michael will never spend a lonely birthday again in his new abode.

Brigida, Italy   August 29th, 2009 6:06 pm ET

Kara, you just made my cry... but tears of joy!

Farewell   August 29th, 2009 8:41 pm ET

@Kara , I love your poem thanks for sharing! But you see this is what pisses me off ! A person like you and many of us should be able to have cross Michael's path and be his friend ! But God had other plans for him. This is a truly beautiful poem from the heart!

spirit   August 29th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

That was a wonderful poem... Love u Michael!!! Hope u had a beautiful birthday up above in the Heavens... but we missed u soooooooooooo much here... May God keep u in His protective care... LOTSA' LOVE!

spirit   August 29th, 2009 9:05 pm ET

And @ the title of this CNN post "Jackson Felt ‘Young’ at 50, Never Reached 51"... I would like to say dat some ppl never grow old...

He was truly a Peter Pan who loved spending time with his lost boys in Neverland... This ugly world couldn't see him dare realize this dream of his and tried making his life a hell for him... So God came to his rescue and called him up above where I'm sure he is happy and at peace ultimately finding his Neverland where there is youth, eternal bliss and no ugly minds to misinterpret ur child-like beauty...

I have a question concerning Michael's appearance at the "This Is It" conference in London: Has anyone commented on the fact that he looks like he is wearing a wig? Michael's appearance looks shocking to me and the hair obviously looks fake like a bad-fitting wig.

BERTHA CECILIA URDINOLA ALJURE - Wageningen - Holland   August 30th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

I’m searching for a certain photograph of Michael. In these photograph we can see Michael waving out his limousine to a girl standing on the street.

Please let me know is you found it. Thank you.
