It's so tragic and sad what happened to Jasmine my prayers go out to her family and loved ones .

vitoria   August 24th, 2009 11:30 am ET

what a barbaric crime !
My heart goes out to her family , more has to be done about violent behavior , I can not believe that the producers of the show failed to verify this monster past .
The laws should change , it should be a Universe Law against all violent behavior , it should appear in your file if you have a crime charge like this animal had on his native country .
They spend millions of dollar to protect the airport and immigration safety issues but they should also spend some more money to let people be aware of anyone carrying any violent past charge behavior., it should came up in your file and to let them know that they will be monitor where ever the person go to !

The producers of the Reality show that Jenkins was on said they "vetted him" for the show – yet they did NOT know about his criminal record of violence and abuse in Canada. Sloppy work. It's scary to think that a murderous man such as Jenkins was presented on the show as some sort of a prize to catch – due to his "millionaire status".

Rose   August 24th, 2009 11:58 am ET

According to the US government: Any Canadian with a criminal record, no matter how minor or how long ago the offense may be refused entry in the US. Even a pardon issued by Canadian authorities is not recognized for purposes of entry into the US. Any past criminal record must be declared to American authorities. Eligibility to enter can then be determined, permitted or denied etc.

Jenkins got into the US, was on a TV show, got married and committed murder and no one knew about his criminal record of violence. What is happening with security checks at our borders?

Jacquelyn   August 24th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

Hmmm, I dont know about this case. Something seems entirely off.

Rose   August 24th, 2009 12:37 pm ET

Ryan Jenkins claimed that he won $250,000 on another Reality show "I Love Money" after doing "Megan Wants a Millionaire" show. VH1 has not confirmed this. This show has not yet aired and should not air with Jenkins on it. These shows are tasteless enough without the attachment of this murder/suicide.

Chantalle   August 24th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

The details of this crime are sadistic and he was clearly sociopathic. He was obsessed with her and this was a crime of passion and a case of nobody else's having her, if he could not have her. My heart goes out to her family for their loss. Jasmine would be alive and well, had she never met this monster 6 months ago. Clearly, we need to highten measures at border crossings as he was able to escape back into Canada. It is not to my surprise that he committed suicide and I believed that he would. He could run but he could not hide forever. It is too bad he will never serve justice for this crime!

What a terrible thing to do to a young woman, or any person really.

Barbara Burton   August 24th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

I listened to a replay of Larry King Live at 12:30 AM AST in which an interview was replayed indicating police were seeking extradition, when in fact the man had been dead several hours. CNN was obviously not up to date on that news.
Somehow I expected better.

Honorine   August 24th, 2009 5:03 pm ET

What a shame!!!
My prayers to her family and friends.

vitoria   August 24th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Canadian authorities did their job , the American authority fail to detected his files , period !

Rose   August 24th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

For the "sake of security" many innocent people are being harrassed at the US border for their appearance, fitting racial or ethnic profiles and having similar names from a "terrorist database" – especially multi-cultural Canadian citizens driving from Canada into the US. A major movie star from India was recently subject to this treatment at an airport. While all of this is occurring, a person like Jenkins with an established criminal record, is permitted into the US, is allowed to make money and then kills an American. What is that?

Rose   August 24th, 2009 5:57 pm ET

I hate to say this but did Jenkins get into the US because he was a white, clean cut, high net worth businessman? Would he have been allowed entry into the US with the same criminal record if he was darker skinned or had a Middle Eastern name? Uneven application of rules at our borders should be looked into.

Everything about this case is bizarre...

None of it makes sense.

Jenkins MAY have been guilty or he might not have been. After Yasmin's murder and for days before he was found-Sightings of him were all over the news in BC. A guy was even picked up in Toronto and arrested/fingerprinted-It was so sensationalized on television and people are found dead ALL the time in the States...there were confusing media stories about his car and boat being found in Washington and then found in BC."Live interviews on the news' with an anonymous woman in down town Vancouver who said he approached her. There were stories of Jenkins "racing" the American Coast guard and getting away...His boat was then found in Port Roberts where he just "walked into Canada" into Tawassen and is then brought by a mysterious woman from Alberta to a hotel in Hope BC . It seems weird that people saw him over three days at the hotel and no one recognized him? Then he is found hanging. It seems weird that the hotel took cash up front for three days and no ID/drivers license or credit card for deposit?? ...The dead tell no tales.

Deborah-Canada   August 24th, 2009 9:30 pm ET

This case is really odd. He filed a missing person's report on sat. evening saying he last saw her sat. afternoon as she was off to get her nails done. Who would do that only hours after seeing someone. It's a pretty dumb move for someone who is labelled as being very smart and manipulative. I also think there is something fishy about his death – people who love themselves as much as he did would not kill themselves. Maybe it is another David Carridine issue?

michael armstrong sr.   August 24th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

This guy was a coward Larry so he took a cowards way out that girl was so pretty they should grind that guys body up into hamburger meet and feed him to the dingoes.

Kate   August 24th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

what ever happened to innocent until prove guilty? was there a suicide note confession? is there more proof that he actually did, or will the real killer potentially get away?

Judith C   August 24th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

This VH1 woman Stuart Brazell should not be in the air. She is talking about the death of someone's daughter but spends 30 secs talking about he childhood and how she was hit on. What a disgrace of an individual!!!!! It's not about you honey!!!!

frank   August 24th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Brazell was quite attractive. I didn't hear a word she said, I was lost in her charm.

sherry   August 24th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

How do we know this was not a sexual Jenkins and he died
why would he be nude?

Stephanie   August 24th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

I agree with Rose on the comment of the sloppy background check work done by the show's producers. Stuart B's attitude tonight was shocking. She had the nerve to talk about herself and on the whole displayed a very devil-may-care attitude. Her only remorse seemed to be in the fact that the shows will not air. Shame on Larry for not probing more into the background checks on contestants while he had that woman there.

Dave Rivait   August 25th, 2009 12:16 am ET

well..its just a good he killed himself..idiot Canadian law wouldnt extradite him to the US unless there was a promise he wouldnt face he death penalty.

so, he saved everyone alot of grief and money..good job Jenkins..I hope your pot in hell is comfortable.

ps.. Im Canadian..

Patricia Tedesco   August 25th, 2009 12:37 am ET

Here is the question that should have been asked by that producer or whatever she does on that Reality Show that put that crazy guy who killed his wife and then himself on a show to meet women. Are you telling us that you do not check these people out before you have them on these shows? If they did they would have realized he had a prior record of hurting women? She was so excited about him.. This is disgusting that these people are not checked out.

Rose   August 25th, 2009 10:04 am ET

Dave Rivait: As a Canadian you know that Canada does not believe in killing anyone, not even a murderer. Don't refer to it as "idiot Canadian law". This law has saved a lot of people from returning back to brutal countries where prejudiced trials lead to unjust executions – this includes writers, academics etc.

Also, if you look at the data for those subject to the death penalty in the US, the overwhelming number of those put to death were poor and non-white. Many could not affort proper legal representation to prove their innocence. Many awaiting execution have been exonerated due to DNA evidence. However, many truly guilty were put to death – decades later.

Yes, we would all like to see monsters meet their end and get justice however the issue of capital punishment is complex and Canada has good reasons for abolishing it and not extraditing individuals.

Rose   August 25th, 2009 10:31 am ET

There was no remorse from Stuart Brazell for not vetting Jenkins properly. She was the one responsible for having him on the show. She said he was charming and had a good personality for the show etc. HOWEVER, she FAILED in the most important area – determining that Jenkins had a criminal record of violence against women.

Obviously the show is more concerned with personalities rather than fact. Jenkins was "good TV" for her. Her callous, light attitude during the LKL confirms her lack of awareness of her role in promoting Jenkins. No grief, no seriousness, no apology for her incompetence – just inappropriate behavior concerning a murder.
