Jenny Sanford: "I Feel Sorry For The Other Woman"

Posted: 11:18 AM ET

By Rebecca Johnson via Vogue

Before Jenny Sanford came along, the options for wronged political wives were pretty poor. You could suffer silently (see Silda Wall Spitzer), deny everything (hello, Hillary), or make catty asides about the harlot who caused your husband to stray (Elizabeth Edwards). Then came Jenny Sanford. jenny sanford
Early this past summer, just as the world was savoring the news that yet another conservative Republican politician had tumbled from grace in a manner worthy of the best French farce—“hiking the Appalachian Trail” will never have the same meaning—there emerged an unlikely hero in the mess down in South Carolina. Petite, clear-eyed, strong-willed, pious without being smug, smart without being caustic, Jenny Sanford became an unlikely heroine by telling the simple truth. Her children were the most important thing in the world to her. She had kicked the lying bum out of the house when he refused to give up his mistress, but marriage is complex, life is hard, and if he wanted to try and make the marriage work, the door was open.

Her one-page statement saying as much was written without the help of spin doctors or media consultants. It came from her heart and her head. It mentioned God without making you squirm. The world took note. Newsweek dubbed her a “media genius”; The Washington Post hailed her as “a new role model for wronged spouses.” On television, Diane Sawyer called her classy, praising her “grace in the glare.” While her husband was giving overly emotional press conferences about soul mates and impossible love, Sanford kept her mouth shut and her head down. Just as the scandal was finally dying down, she agreed to sit with Vogue and set the record straight about what really happened in the low country of South Carolina.

What is the point of saving this train wreck of a marriage. Serve him with divorce papers and get on with your life.

I think this lady is a class act. I am glad she has moved out and focus on herself and her boys. And let him work it out. Now he will know that playing as cost him what matter most. His family. lady you walk with you head up and this to will pass. stay strong and focus on you and pull your strength from God and your children family, friends, and let him see what he has lost.

This story is nothing..........At least she isn't in Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards position.....terminal cancer....her husband, John Edwards runs for the presidency last year against Obama....the whole time he had had an affair....and a baby....after lying on ABC..."no not my baby".... yeah it was his baby. It sort of sounded like Clinton....."I did not have sex with that woman".....yeah right....liar too.

Terry in TX you are very insensitive. The story is nothing to YOU because it isn't YOUR pain or humiliation. This man didn't just diss his wife but his kids too it was Father's day! Have you forgotten about that? I am 53 years old now but know how painful it was when my father walked out on the family without a single word during the middle of Easter dinner and left my mom, sister and me sitting at the table when I was a teen to chase behind another woman. I can't imagine to know how painful it was for my mother but as a kid it was a kick in the gut.

Good for Jenny Sanford! He needs to go curb side - quickly! He doesn't deserve to have a loving wife or family. That selfish, narcacistic bas***d deserves to be alone because I think that he really doesn't know what love is and cares only of himself. He is one of those people who won't miss the water till the well runs dry. Eventually, his karma will always catch up with him - no matter who you are or what you do it always does.

As long as there are human beings they always cheated on their partners, both male and female.
Why is that that we put such a large interest on the sex lives of our politicians? Sure, someone always gets hurt, however such is life. We should concentrate on the job they do and not on with whom do they spend their nights.

I am all for taking care of yourself, but what about not just blaming him for everything. She has a big part in it to.

She looks to me as a hard woman who is very much in her head.
Also, why do all those woman have to write a book about everything. Why do we all need to know. Every woman will know what to do.
I am a woman and I am tiered of woman like that who act like a victim. There are always two for things not to work out.
Stop talking about and think of your kids, one day they will read the book.
Stop being selfish
