Breaking today! Trump says Miss CA can keep title

Posted: 11:56 AM ET

Donald Trump will let Miss California USA Carrie Prejean keep her title despite controversy over semi-nude photos and charges by state pageant officials that she had abandoned her duties to devote time to opposition to same-sex marriage.

"We're in the 21st century," Trump said, explaining Prejean is a model.

And we want to hear from you:  Did Donald Trump make the right decision?

Obviously Trump did not want to embroil himself in anymore controversy by letting her go. I hope Prejean will take her duties with the Pageant more seriously and wait for her term to be over before embarking on personal causes. As reported on CNN: In a recent radio interview she said "Satan" was influencing her during the Miss USA pageant question portion. Okay, whatever.

No Rose   May 12th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Well, nobody said Carrie was mentally stable, but Donald was smart enough to let her continue, he didn't want to waste anymore time over this fiasco. Larry and staff speaking of a fiasco, don't allow the Anthonys on your show. Better yet, I'm sure Mrs. Edwards has a lot to say, why not give her two nights to talk about her book, just don't let John on the show, please. Thanks.

Melissa   May 12th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Miss Prejean is certainly entitled to her personal opinion but she should remember that she is respresenting the state of Calafornia not a part of it. Therefore, her personal opinion should not have come into the national spotlight the way it has. Answer the question, leave it at that. Also, for someone to claim that she was brought up with such tradition, does this mean exposing herself in pictures was a tradition she was brought up in? Hypocracy is more common than tradition in this country so she may want to educate herself on the subjects she chooses to share her personal opinions on. Thats where Perez Hilton's point of her being stupid is pretty accurate.

No Rose   May 12th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

When is Carrie going to be on your show Larry? Just make sure you are hosting the show that night, and not Joy Behar, Joy will rip Carrie apart and it won't be pretty. Better yet, why not have Joy do the interview with the Anthonys, since it looks like you are not cancelling them? Would be interesting to see Joy go after them, and Joy would win. But it would be nice to see Joy put Cindy Anthony in her place.

Nicky   May 12th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

I think he should let her keep it. Just because she has expressed her own honest opinion about how she feels about a particular subject doesn't make her a bad person. I think she's great for standing up in what she believes in.

I think it's great that Gay's/lesbians (sorry if that name is not politcally correct I honestly don't mean to offend) stand up for what they believe in. NO ONE has a right to judge anyone one else. This is her belief! Let it be!

No Rose   May 12th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

And this is breaking news? The next breaking news I want to read Larry, that you cancelled the Anthonys.

Ann   May 12th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

I really don't care whether or not she gets to keep her title, what I want to know is why the Anthony's are still scheduled to be on your show tomorrow night? Why? I am sure you received a lot of emails concerning this. One more show and more of the same, lies, lies, lies and more lies.

numbersgirl   May 12th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

No Rose, I like the way you think. Behar vs Anthony! Heck, I'd pay to see that one.

Rose   May 12th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

Melissa – you are right. It is hyprocritical for Prejean to exploit herself for self gain, especially in a sexual, unChristian-like manner (i.e. the pageant , photos) and then cite Christian reasons for giving an answer. I thought modesty was a virtue for Christians, not prancing around nearly naked. Perhaps Satan made her do it. It's difficult to take her seriously due to this hypocriscy. The walk and the talk just don't add up. I encourage young women to develop their minds rather than resorting to breast implants to get ahead. Now that's worth standing up for.

trimm   May 12th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Larry,do what's right .Cancel the Anthony interview.Waste, huge waste.

Sandra   May 12th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Geez people where is your tolerance?? Good for her, she stated her opinion and now everyone wants to chastize her for it. The real issue is why are political questions being asked at all? If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question!

FRG   May 12th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Mr. Larry King,
I won't be watching the Anthonys lying to cover up for their murderous daughter and their scheme foundation to mislead the public and taint the jury pool.

Carol   May 12th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Dear Larry, pleeeeeze don't let the Anthony's run your show tommorow nite! They think they are smart enough to get their daughter off on murder charges. We are counting on you to ask all the tuff questions.

JoJo   May 12th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

She has a right to her opinion!
Thank you Mr. Trump!

No Rose   May 12th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Thanks numbersgirl, I would even watch Larry's show if I knew it would be Joy on as host, how about it Larry, sounds good, she will at least ask some serious questions.

Dave of Detroit   May 12th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

The wisdom of Trump-the best way to defuse the problem is to let Miss California keep her crown and Perez to keep his job too-Don, you should go into Politics or dancing with the stars, you have a great two step!

Noreen Rose   May 12th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

How about BREAKING NEWS – Larry King and CNN decide they will not complete with the circus industry and cancel the Anthony 3 ringer!!

jean ray   May 12th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

of course letting a slimeball, womanizer decide if the nude photos were ok ..what do you think the donald would say? he is all for that type of behavior!

No Rose   May 12th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

Perez Hilton is nothing but a fool, he complains 24/7 about Carrie and her opinions, how is her opinions on gay marriage ruining it for you Perez? Just because she feels this way and many, many other people feel this way, what difference should this make to you? Nobody is stopping you from marrying your boyfriend, are they? You probably don't even have a boyfriend anyway. If you think you are helping the gay marriage thing, you are not, leave the girl alone, and go take up the cause in a way that you look a little credible. I really think you have gone off the deep end, and I hope Carrie goes after you and sues you. You Perez Hilton need some kind of intervention, snap out of it already, people are just laughing at you.

amb   May 12th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

Who selects the judges? Gays/lesbians should not be allowed to judge beauty contests – they should have their own contests for their own kind! Whatever that is! They are much too different from the mainstream, normal person – I don't feel they are normal.

kelly   May 12th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

Trump made the right decision. Miss California should have never been asked that personal question. It is a beauty pageant, not a senate campaign. If she had been asked a proper question, none of this would have happened. The best thing about this fiaco is that she represents free speech and freedom of choice. You can be pro gay and anti-gay marriage without being a pariah.

Rose   May 12th, 2009 6:01 pm ET

Perhaps gays and lesbians should sit at the back of the bus too. They should also get their own water fountains and separate seating in restaurants. Yes, their own kind – subhuman I suspect. We normal people are of course much more superior. We don't have murderers, wife beaters, child abusers and rapists amongst us. Nope, we're just "normal" hetero's. Hurray for us.

Avery   May 12th, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Donald Trump is the ring leader to this circus. Their is nothing honourable about promoting the objectification of women and supporting an industry where women compete for beauty. It is self-serving, narcissistic and shallow. And then to call yourself a conservative Christian. Showing your body to other women`s husbands. Their is nothing modest or sacred about that. Carrie`s right, Satan has tempted her, and his name is Donald Trump, the 7 deadly sin man himself.

Rose   May 12th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

This issue was never about free speech. It was about women who are willing to exploit themselves for big prizes. When asked a question in this type of forum, the key is in the "manner" in which it is answered, NOT the answer itself. How did the contestant "handle" the question? It was reduced to "she gave an honest answer" or "she has a right to her opinion". This is ridiculously stupid and naive when you consider the context of why she was up there to begin with. As a contestant, she is not a private citizen. She was a representative of her state and should have given a fair but objective answer that was inclusive. Why it it so hard for people to understand it's a "business" and not a free-for-all-get-on-your-soap-box event.

This whole "my family believes" or "I was raised with". . .has no place in this forum. She may honestly think that and it's her right, but her delivery was misplaced. Anyone who abases themselves by participating in such events cannot be taken seriously. I suggest Prejean puts some clothes on, educate herself better about the world, not hide behind dogmas, stop blaming Satan and above all – give up the hypocrisy.

Linda   May 12th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

Larry-Please don't let the Anthony's skirt around issues. If they love Caylee so much they should want her murderer brought to justice.

If Casey gets off, she could get prenant again and go through this same nightmare again!!

ckelly   May 12th, 2009 11:06 pm ET

A small victory that says this: admist the crazy changes and confusion of the last 40 years or so-the voice of freespeech and of the public is still important, and the power of the lobby group is kept at bay...the media does not control the minds of everyone! Thank God.!

Carrie wear your crown proudly while you can...before you know it, this too (Miss USA) will be a form of discrimination because no men are allowed...where is common sense? Just because you want something doesn't mean you are entitled to it.

LindaG   May 12th, 2009 11:10 pm ET

It's all about popular opinion at the time. Selling furniture, green couches are in then neutral, then red. Guess Mr. Trump just weighed the opinions and decided. If it is about a judge, who is a little one sided, asking a young person a personal belief in the biggest moment of her life on national TV and expecting her to answer the way he wants, then getting angry if she doesn't, to me, that seems worse then semi-nude photos. There are always good and bad people, and some who won't sell out, even tempted.

LindaG   May 12th, 2009 11:17 pm ET

Perhaps beauty pageant contestants should really study and learn about political double speak so they don't really take a firm stance on anything important that might offend someone somewhere and loose them a vote. But I guess gay people do exist. They cannot naturally reproduce so I suppose the conflict will end eventually without incident, if it's genetic and not choice.

karen Jackson   May 13th, 2009 2:21 am ET

I feel like this whole thing has gotten out of hand. Carrie gave her opinion in a respectful manner. I think that the gay rights side, is being mean spirited and overly aggressive. The media is the one who dragged Carrie into this...I understand the passion of the gay rights movement, but frankly they are showing poor taste. The ex miss teen that Larry had on tonight was clearly an angry jealous woman.

She should be happy Carrie made the comments...otherwise, who would even know her name? I sincerely hope Larry King does not invite her back.

Stand strong Carrie!

augustina   May 13th, 2009 2:32 am ET

I can't believe these responses! I didn't care what this woman had to say; the fact is that was inarticulate and would not have won regardless of what she said. As far as the Donald goes, how many times did he mention how beautiful or lovely Carrie is, so where do
you think his priorties are. He and these contests have no more
credibility or relevance.

The bottom line is that Donald purposely avoided the real problem with this contestant. She lied about her age and her photos. Oh yeah, do y'all really believe the wind blew her leather vest aside? And this picture was obviously done after her boob job! She broke her
contract and Donald let her get away with it and let an alcholic get
away from breaking hers. He's an idiot and I don't understand why he makes the final decision and not California who she lied to and no
longer represents! If Donald thinks more people are now going to watchi Miss USA , he's mistaken about this publicity strunt....who wants their little girl watching women who lie and pose nude to get
ahead. Poor role model! The lies are the issue, not her answer to "opposite" marriages or her photos.

idzan ismail of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia   May 13th, 2009 3:54 am ET

Thank you Mr Trump.
She's a beauty queen not a politician.
Forgive the girl for she know's not about politics.
Judge her for her beauty not for political correctness.
America is a free country where one is free to speak what she/he feels.
She's cherishing that ideal.

nardofree chesapeake va   May 13th, 2009 10:34 am ET

christian or not , this lady should be allowed to state her opinion when asked a question. trying to discredit her on morals and values is like the pot calling the kettle black , blue , yellow ,and green. how can anyone living immoral call out anyone on morals, when it's very clear, they themselves, are without any?

Haroon David Peter   May 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET

As the issue of gay marriage is getting quite hype in media. The question i am going to ask may have never been asked before. The question is:

Can we expect gay/lesbian as a president of USA in the future as everyone has equal rights in USA?

Pietro Sirianni   May 13th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

She's too dumb to know any better, after all she is probably a republicant. They're all stuck in the 80's waiting for Regan to come back. Maybe if they had jelly bean parties instead of tea parties.............who knows!

C Kelly   May 13th, 2009 5:37 pm ET

Congratulations to Carrie prejean and to Donald Trump for making the right decision.

Robert   May 13th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

elaine   May 13th, 2009 7:47 pm ET

her opinion does not bother me but fake big boobs not think her surgery to enhance should qualify her for any beauty pageant...I think smaller natural boobs are sexier anyway..& so do the men in my family...

Jay   May 13th, 2009 8:36 pm ET

To all future Miss America canidates, keep your shirt on.

snuffrock   May 13th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

I agree with Miss California. Marrage is between a man and a woman.
A pox on all the gays and others who were offended.

Mario   May 13th, 2009 11:24 pm ET

Even though I do not agree with Prejean's thoughts on marriage I'm not going to persecute her for being honest. She is entitled to her opinion and I admire her for honesty. I'm just being realistic about the situation.

Bob   May 14th, 2009 2:15 am ET

Miss Cali should keep her crown. Those so called semi-nude pics aren't even risque by today's standards.

Homosexuality is a disorder. Anybody who says counter reproductive behaviors is natural probably doesn't believe in evolution. Scientists can't even pinpoint or biologically identify any genetic causes. Prez and gay people should just get over themselves and admit their dysfunction.
