BY Celeste Katz

Former US Senator John Edwards' cheating ways made his wife, Elizabeth, sick to her stomach – literally.

After the former presidential hopeful confessed his betrayal, Elizabeth Edwards writes in her new book, "I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up." Elizabeth, 59, who is terminally ill with cancer, speaks in far more detail than before about her husband's infidelity in her new memoir, "Resilience," due to be published May 12 by Broadway Books. A copy was obtained by the Daily News.

Despite feeling deeply deceived, Elizabeth Edwards nonetheless publicly stood by her husband's side, lending his candidacy the aura of a warm, loving family life.

But she had actually wanted him to quit the race to protect the family. Edwards admitted the hanky-panky to her days after declaring his candidacy in 2006 – almost a year before the National Enquirer reported it.

this country must really enjoy reading or hearing of someone else's bad conduct! i wouldn't want anyone to know about some of the garbage i've done in this life! put the trash in the trash can!

Human nature is hardly a bragging point. The real Biblical meaning of forgiveness is forgetting-as though it never happened. We have a terrible time with that concept but it can actually happen over time and it is the only way to heal both a relationship and restore faith or fidelity if you will. Writing a book about it is not forgiving!

monika studer   April 30th, 2009 11:39 am ET

I was totally offended by an ignorant comment your guest made yesterday, about health care. He should apologize !!
First he talked about Mexico,
then he said " Do you want a system like Canada, where Natasha Richardson died.
As SAD as it is, when a person has a ski accident, which she thought was minor,
refuses medical attention, WHAT has that to Do with our health care?
We are Canadians who often watch your show, but ignorant statements like that make me angry.

no-one is immune to temptation, all of us have just dont want the people you have given trust and elected to office to make such dumb and brain dead decisions.some people have the moral fibre of a mackac monkey.

Dave of Detroit   April 30th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Say Dave, You have a lot of anger and the Bible is based on both forgiveness and letting God take care of any vengeance but to quote the parable of the richman that was forgiven his great debt and then strangled a man for a small debt-It doesn't have a happy ending! You really need to forgive those who betray you, otherwise you are not forgiven. Not only that but the anger festers and ruins any change of you being happy and achieving a lasting relationship with anyone.....

natasha richardson died because of her own stupidity.dont blame canadian health care for not being able to save someone that wouldnt wear a helmet.

len   April 30th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

makes me laugh, here most american politicians preach about good versus evil, expecting the world to follow the USA's moral compass, and then turn around on television and say poor me i got caught with my pants down in some other womens wonder canadians just look at that and say,,,yeah,,,right ,,,ok,,bunch of morons.

hugh ~ california   April 30th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

@ len,
You're only showing the world YOUR stupidity with such insensitive comments about Natasha Richardson's death. You must be a very negative person to choose such sarcastic remarks about such a fine lady, mother and wife.

hugh ~ california   April 30th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

@Dave Dawson,
What do geneticists say about HATE, are they in the genes? Hate is definitely a part of your genetic makeup. Your arrogant, pompous and self-righteous comments are disturbingly sick, demeaning, and appalling!

"The reason religious fanatics cannot demonstrate love is because their souls are filled with hatred and revenge."-my quote of the day.

len   April 30th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

hugh,,,,wearing a helmet on the slope is common sense, not wearing a helmet is stupidity.the comments aren't insensitive, its just stating the facts, who the lady was is irrelevant,we are talking about helmets.

hugh ~ california   April 30th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

"Just stating the facts" you say? Comments like "stupidity," or "bunch of morons" is not stating a fact, it's called an opinion.

Larry – How about the cititbank bonus – If Citibank employees want to leave if they don't get a Bonus then let 'em go, we have enough unemployed people to hire some new ones at a lower salary I'm sure.
I can not believe it – we just bailed them out and they have the audacity to consider bonuses. I don't think so!!!!

(((( Ah, our gene pool is down another notch ))))

Lets hope you do NOT have any children!

RE: Natasha Richardson – an ambulance arrived within minutes of her accident. She said she felt fine and refused to go in the ambulance for further medical attention. She chose to go back to her room. Unfortunately, the brain injury was not felt immediately by her and it took an hour for the damage to extend. At that point, nothing could be done. Blood on the brain proved fatal.

She made a tragic error by denying herself available treatment. It was not the fault of the Canadian system. Canadians have access to quick emergency care and some of the best hospitals in the world – free of charge. I lived in Canada for many years and can state it is light years ahead of the situation in the US.

The Republican politician who made that negative remark on CNN about the Canadian health care system has no clue and is absolutely ignorant.

i was preparing to have a kidney transplant because I had IGM
nephropathy. In 2005 I had a perferated Colon and the trauma
of that made my creatine jump up to dangerous levels and I
went on dialisis in 5 months. I was fortunate to have a 100%
kidney matched kidney from a 31 year old woman from Puerto
Rico. I was called at 11:oo AM at the Cleveland Clinic and
got a perfect kidney and recovery very quickly.
I am 72 now and love each day when I wake up.
