Fred Thompson: Obama Gets An 'F' on First 100 Days

Posted: 04:32 AM ET

Former Senator, TV star and presidential candidate Fred Thompson gives President Barack Obama a failing grade for his performance in his first 100 days in office. artthompsongi

In an exclusive Newsmax interview, the Tennessee Republican declared: “In the most important areas that affect our country, that is our economy and national security, I’d give him an F in both categories."

“Domestically he is leading us down the road to economic disaster . . . We’re going to be facing trillion-dollar deficits every year for as far as the eye can see. We cannot sustain that. He’s taken a tough situation and made it a whole lot worse.”

Thompson also told Newsmax that because of Obama administration’s policies that “cater” to the left wing, the dollar will ultimately be endangered, Americans will face runaway inflation and the dilution of their savings, and a minority of Americans will be left to shoulder the tax burden for a majority who pay no taxes.

I am certainly against Fred thompson's remark about president Obama first hundred days. He is very wrong. Oboma deserves an A..

lostemperor   April 29th, 2009 6:02 am ET

I've put it this way before: Obama's policy on economics, Afghanistan and Iraq, is a way to hell.

(Nevertheless, he brings a lot of optimism, lacking in the Bush administration, what brings his first 100 days to a C-)

World citizen   April 29th, 2009 6:54 am ET

Who's Fred Thompson?

Kelli from Tampa   April 29th, 2009 7:24 am ET

Funny Ole Freddie gets an" I" for incomplete. Or better yet an "F" for skipping school. He did not even show up to his own "campaign" Go away Republicans.

Dave of Detroit   April 29th, 2009 8:09 am ET

Well Fred-Explain why President Bush attacked Iraq instead of going after the people that brought down the Twin Towers as a starter. Explain why Bush gave the richest Americans tax cuts, did away with every safeguard on our Banks and Savings Institutions, allowed the American Auto Industry to sink like a dying ship, and led our allies into Iraq and then told them to get lost, it was our ripe plum. I do not consider President Bush to be a Republican but a rule of a triumverate including Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld that disregarded the Constitution of the United States, sent us into a war for no reason, expanded the military budget and power of the Pentagon beyond any limits of credibility-800 bases?-gave the Vice-President excessive authority over Defense Contracts and the running of the war in Iraq and the collapse of the U.S. Economy and almost the World Economy-At least you can give a report card mark to Obama-Bush ghave away the school!

Bernard   April 29th, 2009 8:45 am ET

Fred is an actor, used in living with pre-arranged scripts, in his case as prescribed by the Republican but I'm certain that his real "F" rating really means, FANTASTIC performance by the President.

Lawrence   April 29th, 2009 9:50 am ET

In Fred's world all things under President Obama is falling apart. Yet, I have not heard from Fred an offer viable solutions to our nation’s problems. Giving President Obama a grade of “F” well, Thompson couldn’t even qualify to be in the same class. Who is he to judge. If it weren't for the President, Thompson would not have "any" visibility.

I give the President a Grade of A. He has shown outstanding leadership where others like Thompson and the Republican “gang” have offered only talk. They should receive a D for their efforts.

Michael C. McHugh   April 29th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Gee, another Republican attacks Obama. I'm shocked, shocked....
I'd be more interested if one of them ever said he'd done anything good.

Pietro Sirianni   April 29th, 2009 11:58 am ET

Like this guy matters.

hugh ~ california   April 29th, 2009 12:08 pm ET

Are you kidding me?! Fred Thompson is the one whose grade is F. Such sharp rhetoric from such a political loser and a lousy actor to boot. Fred T. the former presidential candidate "dropout," who–in my recollection–didn't even win one state primary!

Larry McKenna   April 29th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

I can hardly wait to see what you bleeding heart liberals have to say in a year.. He promised change and brother it's coming !! Your beloved Obama is running YOUR country into the ground and you are just watching like the lemmings you are ..Keep your blinders on and you will be part of the problem.. Your call..

Dodie ~ California   April 29th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

@ hugh ~ California (lol)

I concur with everything you said

Adding ----

Nor did he ever win an Emmy or an Oscar.

Fred Thompson, you acting was atrocious!

Dave of Detroit   April 29th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

Sadly, I like Fred-good actor, good conservative Republican-The problem is that the Republicans still have not gotten out of covering G.W."s backside and all the muck from the bottom of the cesspool that was the Bush Presidency keeps bubbling up-Cheney and Rove are not helping at all-Cheney has vested interests in his Halliburton contracts and Rove is the cherub from Hell. Was nice to see the Gingrich-Gore debate, and Canters and others are starting to get some attention...Would be nice to see some Republicans starting to offer some good suggestions and creative solutions to the problems facing the Nation. The Party has a great History-pity the Hawks brought them down-a lot of good solid congressmen lost their jobs over G.W.!

Woody McBreairty   April 29th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Fred Thompson showed his true colors in his pathetic run for president. He uttered not one word of meaningful input into the debate/dialogue. Mr. Thompson is just another in a long line of the "party- of-no " Republicans who needs to do the ultimate service to his country and walk quietly into the sunset. The people rejected him in the last election; now he needs to take the hint and just go away.

Justice for the Righteous   April 29th, 2009 5:50 pm ET

It was a mistake,” Obama said today before a meeting at FBI headquarters in Washington. “publicity-photo shoot with one of the planes that serves as Air Force One that cost taxpayers $328,835 and caused a furor in New York City. This mistake costs him and F.

Dave of Detroit   April 29th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

Justice-you really need to drop the "For"in your log on or realize that even with belt, suspenders and sky hook we occasionally end up with our trousers down to our ankles-That may be the reason for all the songs that have moon in them! Take care!

Bill   April 29th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

Such hypocracy...the Republicans claimed they wanted change during the campaign, yet now that they have the chance to actually change things, they vote against everything Obama proposes. What they don't realize though is that if they vote against every economic proposal Obama offers, the blame for our economic situation still lies with the Republicans and the Bush administration. The most expensive 100 days in history pales in comparison to what the Iraq war is costing us.

hugh ~ cal-a-forn-EE   April 29th, 2009 6:37 pm ET

@Justice for the Righteous,
You're becoming repetitious! You said that already on another blog.

Quan   April 29th, 2009 8:05 pm ET

Fred Thompson, the actor who wants to play another garde B actor, shows us just how few brain cells he has left. Amazingly, NewsMax must have run out of "experts" to interview from all the illustrious reformers and taxcutters of the Grand Ole Party.

Rich   April 29th, 2009 8:26 pm ET

Former Senator Thompson....suck it up!! You had a good shot to be the GOP nominee if you had bothered to "campaign" for it!!! but no.....I don't like raising money and going on the campaign trail. I thought you would have been the best nominee.....then to top it all off the GOP picks Sarah Palin as it's VP nominee!!

I not entirely thrilled with some of the decisions our new President has had to make.......but the GOP sure the heck hasn't offered any alternative solutions!!

ivana   April 30th, 2009 12:31 am ET

sad people really

jmschange08   April 30th, 2009 12:33 am ET

Yes this President gets a A for EFFORT!! We the youth of America are taking back this country and making a better WORLD!!! Yes Mr. Thompson you deserve a F- For FRAUD and Fake. Its a shame every Republican has voted the same way- this really tells you about this party. Here in TN- every repub- had the same answer d-F!!! This is why you lost and will never win again. AMERICA is a NEW PLACE, join the party!!!!

Ed Kimble   April 30th, 2009 12:40 am ET

Can you imagine Fred Thompson in the White House these past 100 days? Would we be Koreans, Iranians or Taliban already?

This guy is a joke! Why is CNN giving an audience to morons like this? Please, stop interviewing vapid entertainers about public policy issues unless they still have a brain that functions.

Art Roberts   April 30th, 2009 12:42 am ET

Go take a nap Fred.

jmariej   April 30th, 2009 12:53 am ET

Mr. Fred Thompson...... Your comments do not surprise me or for that matter anyone else. Your grade of F you have given to President Obama is not surprising, considering you are just hating because you did not make it as a presidential candidate. Go somewhere and sit down....or go back to acting; you have had your 15 minutes of fame. Talk to your hand because the ears of the American people aren't listening anymore.

G   April 30th, 2009 1:03 am ET

I have lost all respect for fred Thompson. He is just part of that right wing repub party that have NO standing left in anything anymore.

daniel lawrence simmons   April 30th, 2009 5:20 am ET

Aynes54   April 30th, 2009 7:24 am ET

Fred is right. Obama deserves an F.

Jay   April 30th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Fred gets an F in acting and another F in politics.

Theresa   April 30th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

Forgive me, but Fred's got it wrong... It's domestically, WE are leading us down the road to economic disaster.

We refuse to give up a consumption-based worldview and, instead, adopt a conservation-driven economy. No-one forced people to hang on to faltering stocks. No-one blocked access to safer, albeit less productive, modes of wealth management. No-one holds a gun to our heads forcing us to purchase homes, furnishings, automobiles, technologies and vacations beyond our means.

Mom and Dad always said... "act your age".

I say... "ACT YOUR WAGE"!!!

Rose   April 30th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

Thompson's "F" confirms his lack of seriousness concerning the country. He and his supporters don't care or are unaware of the great challenges inherited by Obama – mainly due to his Repubican predecessor. The Republicans are the ones who genuinely deserve an "F". Thompson is just another talking-head spewing garbage.

John   April 30th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Fred, Fred, Fred,.......... Repulican Fred.... dinosaurs of the past.
Not of this planet and not of the world.
The Anti- American.

hugh ~ california   April 30th, 2009 6:26 pm ET

@Aynes54–you deserve an F,
Fred is wrong, and you wrong-headed!

Aynes54   April 30th, 2009 11:28 pm ET

@ Hugh...It is "your" not "you". What is wrong headed??? lol

hugh ~ california   May 1st, 2009 12:15 am ET

Oh, sorry Mr.Aynes, let me correct a typo!

You are such a "numb-skull!" I never meant to imply "your"; in fact your silly attempt to correct my words only shows how lame your english writing skills are. You were trying to correct my entry from you to "your"–wrong, it would be correct to type YOU'RE not YOUR numb nuts! Got it! You're is the short form of you are! Are you laughing now.

I left out the double-dash, see below lame brain.
Fred is wrong, and you–wrong-headed!

Do you see the double-dash numb nuts–in english it means a break. You just made me LMAO!

If you don't get it I give up. You can't teach an arrogant person a damn thing. If you've never heard the term "wrong-headed" then you you are just that–wrong-headed. It's in the dictionary; it means "stubborn in adherence to WRONG opinion or principles," or "contrary to sound judgement." That would be YOU!

I'm not a damn expert in english grammar, but the next time you feel the desire to correct someone else–take a remedial course first!

Tom   May 1st, 2009 12:52 am ET

What a moron.......he should go back to acting, at least in acting, they were giving him scripts that made him sound a little bit more intelligent than he really is. We saw that in his stellar run for Prez. As a GOP voter, we are in deep trouble!

janette tx   May 9th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

who gives a poop what that viagra head fred thinks!

Toyin Daudu   May 13th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Really does Fred live in another planet or in his own negative world. When you grade someone you have to consider all circumstances not just your sentiments. I wonder what grade Fred would give George Bush.
