What to Call Obama's Plan????

Posted: 11:28 AM ET

FDR had his "New Deal."  LBJ had his "Great Society."  Even though it's early, Obama seems to be taking some bold measures.  artobamatroopscnnBut his strategy needs a name.

Post your suggestions below.  This is unscientific, unsponsored, and completely irrelevant.  But it should be fun.

* "Not my Fault" Nation

* Subsidization Proclamation

* Jefferson's Worst Nightmare

Sorry if these seem dire. As a single woman who has spent most of my life paying my way through undergraduate and business school to get were I am – I am a little shocked at having become "the enemy" overnight.

I can tell you what to call the Plan of the Limbaughs and the Lou Dodds. and joes the NOT plumbers
"""FREEDOM for our ideas; but not YOURS!"""
Surprise and inconsistency are roots of humor and that is why they are such a JOKE! Everything they want is 'freedom' the platform of the opposition is 'wildness'. sheesh
They STILL believe an unfettered, unregulated economy will lead to the the fatherly benevolent Nabobs taking care of of the Serfs.
[ENRON should have been the turning point!]
They call their WILD West philosophy on guns, freedom! What about the freedom to walk to the corner store or go to school without getting shot??? That would be REAL freedom!
[They say, "there is NO proof guns create crime". sheesh Just Google #1 crime rate of developed countries]
BUT when it comes to abortion and gay rights, they SPIN their mouths around and Pontificate on the dangers of wildness and lawlessness.
On THEIR pet issues they point the unpatriotic finger on anyone who does NOT believe in Government for the People to counter the wild and lawless society; but when it comes to a complete break down in law enforcement, DUE to GUNS, they call that [freedom.] Sheesh
With SO MANY high school drop outs running around who don't have the brains to see they are a JOKE; they have a huge BASE to work from.
No wonder they OPPOSE improving education!

"""The Brashness of Hopelessness"""
The train has not only left the station; it has derailed in the mountains; but Obama is selling tickets!? Morte taxes and less spending is the required formula. Both parties are 1/2 right.
The Republicans are the Apologists and Loyalists for the Royal Families of America, not 'republicans' at all.
If the Monarchs in England had a Group like the GOP, back then, they would still be in power. The GOP exists to keep the fat cats, fat!

To BRL: You have to understand that Democrates hate people who are self empowered, self sustaining, and independent. That's not their power base. They pander to the lowest common denominators of our society because that's who got them elected and that's who will keep them in power. They write checks to these people so they will vote for them. They do not want these people to succeed on their own because then they won't need them. It's not about caring for these people, it's about getting votes to stay in power. They're expanding big government so more people will work for the government. This "stimulus" package is nothing more than buying more votes. It's not about stimulating the economy. It's about getting more power.

Gary Chandler of Canada, Thanks for your analysis of the US. Pouring a lot of money into schools won't have any affect on education if kids don't put the IPod, cell phones, etc., down and get an education. This would need to start with parents, not a nice new building nor even a higher paid teacher. Guns may be the number one aid to crime, but controls on them won't stop crime. Quite simply, a new "aid" will step forth. We need for individuals to take a little more personal responsibility. That would save a lot of tax dollars.

GOOD NAME FOR IT!! crazymaezy,ok

Eoin Casey   February 27th, 2009 11:05 pm ET

With Banks failing, the H1 employees are being targeted, to save jobs and money. While I totally respect the intentions behind the concept, I fail to understand how the managers (leave alone the more senior management), collected bonuses of at least $50,000 each this year, while the rest of the worker bees got laid off or had salary freezes, or were threatened implicitly...to be lucky to still have their jobs 🙂

The work culture is yet another victim of this recession! JPMC

I wouldn't blame H1s – they pay Medicare and Social Security and are not eligible even for unemployment benefits anything in turn – and the Labor Condition Application has to prove that there truly is noone for the position. It is the L1s etc that should be targeted.

It is the greedy managers/executives who should be under scrutiny and not innocent workers – H1s or Domestic!

Yes, please get rid of Regan economics... It hit me very hard. I paid into social security for 20+ years and will NOT be able to get any of it back... because of REGAN! Maybe with Obama, I might be able to get all the years of social security I paid back in retirement. THERE IS HOPE!!!

I can hardly wait to see how the people that voted Obama into office turn on him. When they find out just how screwed they are it will be like the 3 stooges. How can anyone believe these public officials are going to pay their taxes with these amounts due? I forgot they will not be required to do the right thing that has been proven. Screw up and move up is the motto for this administration.

@James - Proceeds of Crime would be the BEST way to take a BIG cut out of crime! STOP allowing car dealers and Realtors to become 'money launderers'. Also, STATED income mortgages products!?? Why do they allow that!???? sheesh
INCOME TAX records on every transaction, even leases, where the value is above $20,000.
There are already laws in place for reporting 'suspicious' money, but it is NOT enforced.

Gary Chandler of Canada, Guns may be the number one aid to crime, but controls on them won’t stop crime - who said it would 'stop' crime? it would REDUCE it!
Vancouver in British Columbia Canada used to have a lower crime rate, relative to most American cities. For the last few months the gang land shootings are outstripping the worst Chicago has ever seen.
For the past 10 years, guns, illegal in Canada, have been allowed in for movie making. sheesh yes real live guns, not replicas.
Gun dealers set up shop to sell to criminals and now Vancouver is as bad, or worse than America. the reason GUNS!
Yes, there was crime before, but the 'over the top' increase is directly related to the FREEDOM the gangsters had to obtain weapons. The FREEDOM of Canadians to walk the streets has been curtailed because of the INCREASE in guns.
[At least 3 innocent victims were shot in vehicles that 'looked like' the gangsters cars and anther couple of innocent men were in in the same building when a massacre took place.]
{{{They should put police in the Escalade dealerships and check Income Tax records of the PUNKS who are buying and leasing luxury vehicles!!!}}}

Well, we could call the end of the Clinton Era -B.B. for Before Bush-you know great economy, balanced budget, the whole nine yards....Then Obama's Plan could bear the tile A.B. for After Bush, you know Record Deficits, Rercession, and huge loans to China that are now getting "Eminent Domain" Staus as Collateral on our Debt. I do want to write Pelosi and Reid and remind them that a new wrinkle has taken place in the Ear Mark and Pork Bills-Every time they get an "Earmark" Bill through, it could result in China getting a Building or a Bridge or a Railroad as part of our collateral. Pelosi gets a billion or so for her mice and kiss the Golden Gate Bridger Goodbye or Reid gets his Railroad and China takes it for collateral. In a way, it is justice as the poor Chinese laborers were really taken advantage of on the initial building of the Nation's Railways.........

Michael C. McHugh   February 28th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

The New Progressive Era or the Second Progressive Era. The First Progressive Era was 1900-20.

It´s not enough just to call it the New Era because that name is already taken: that was the period of Republican rule from 1920-33–Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover. Obama definitely does not want to repeat that one!

Sonya Davis   February 28th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

WHY CAN WE NOT DOWNSIZE THE GOVERNMENT AND CAP SALARIES AND VENDER SERVICES RATES?

A salary of $400,000.00 annually, along with other benefits such as $50,000.00 as an expense account, $100,000.00 nontaxable travel account, $19,000.00 for entertainment etc... is paid to the President. When a president retires, he recieves a pension of $191,300.00 plus benefits annually.

How many retired and wealthy in their own right presidents do we now have on the overburdened taxpayers' payroll at present? What executive position do you know of whereas the top position is held for a max of eight years and retire with these type of lifelong benefits? Yet our cities' unemployment monies is running out and the average mortgage holder is either in or close to being in foreclosure, 47 million Americans are unable to afford health insurance and the general populace are losing their jobs daily.

Each state is entitled to have at one Representative In the House. California at present has 53. The total number of voting reps are 435 at a salary of $169,300.00 annually plus benefits, which equals to $73,645,500.00+ annually.

Each state is also entitled to two senators at an annual salary of $169,300.00 plus benefits. There are 100 senators in office which means their annual cost is $16,930,000.00+ annually.

Then there is the President pro tempore that earns $188,100.00 plus benefits annually, the Speaker of the House who earns $212,100.00 plus benefits annually, the majority and minority leaders that earn more than the House representatives annually approximately $183,500.00 annually. On top of that they are eligible for COLA increases annually. As much as 40% or more of the Senators are millionaires.

How is it acceptable that CEOs makes millions for an annual salary along with the other huge salaries of senior and top management and their companies are almost in bankruptcy due to mismanagement and we are forced, yes forced to bail them out with our tax dollars so we may keep a job while many others are layed off? These fat cats own multiple homes and cars and boats etc. while the minimum wage in the US is $6.55 per hour ($300.00 under the poverty level for a family of one and below the poverty level for a family of two or more). We can afford two wars and can not afford to pay our workers a decent salary!

How is it acceptable that governmennt sponsored enterprises such as Fannie Mae et al are exempt from paying taxes and full disclosure to the SEC?

How is it acceptable that pharmaceutical companies are allowed to pay lobbyist millions of dollars to put their concerns forward in the government to boost their profits such as stifling the legislation to promote universal healthcare (along with the AMA) and enacting Medicare Part D whereas the poor and seniors have such high deductibles they end up paying even more for medications they can not afford but yet these companies will not lower the cost of medication equitable to the costs in other developed countries. And our government will not cap their rates.

How is it President Obama is issuing a tax on tobacco products (same as Canada's sin tax) to cover the cost of the old childrens' health program, which has already been proven to work only as a bandaid, for enrollments markedly increases instead of tapering. I am all for increases in luxury taxes but let's include yachts, jewerly, cars; all luxury items. And let's put the money where it can serve best; in a universal health plan. Let's take a look at Canada's and many European plans and improve on it. Yes the Canadians and the English pay substantial amounts of their salary in taxes and it goes to their healthcare plans which include pharmaceuticals at a flat rate (watch Micheal Moore's "Sicko" documentary). We also pay a substantial amount of our salaries in taxes and we get nothing from it.

How is it acceptable for HMOs to pay physicians incentive pay for decreased utilization of services for patients and pay their utilization managers bonuses for a specific percentage for denials of services to their subscribers?

I could go on but I am sure if anyone reading this has one speck of gray matter working can see we are being fed a load of bulls... and we are paying for the meal. Government is way to big, the Federal Reserve is only interested in their profits, and large corporations have way too much power and the Joe Blow who is footing the bill is disenfranchised. I AM SICK OF IT ARE YOU?

Kaloke   March 2nd, 2009 1:52 am ET

I belong to neither party but I voted for Obama. I hope he can lead us out of this mess.

I am also concerned about the surmountable amount of debt this country has. If China and Saudi pulled out financially, we would have to declare bankruptcy as a country. If we would nationalize all banks with their hands out for large sums of money, focus on creating thousands of “green” jobs, work on our infrastructure, outlaw all ear marks and special interests, we might be able to come back as a strong nation. Education is a must, but we need to strengthen our economy first.

This is actually “Darwin’s Theory or Evolution” but on an Economic level… as this is survival of the fittest in corporations/wall street/banks/auto manufacturers/insurance companies and whomever has their hand out!!!

Sounds like welfare from cradle to grave.

ASUacurry   March 6th, 2009 9:55 am ET

I believe he should call it the Restoration Dilation Plan. Meaning the balance of our nation will expand throughout the years. Our economy has changed so much, there's very little we make here anymore. Manufacturing has fled the country. Healthcare costs make it disproportionately expensive to higher American workers. The sorry state of our education system means that we're not setting ourselves up to be able to compete in the service industries of the future. And the deregulated state of Wall Street has made it possible for our largest and most powerful companies to mask their fundamental weakness by playing a shell game so complex- and so fundamentally devoid of value- that no one can figure out how to untangle the mess.So its time for the Restoration Dilation Plan
