Ashley Judd takes on Sarah Palin

Posted: 10:03 AM ET

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a new foe - Ashley Judd.

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, with a hand from the actress, has launched a Web-based campaign targeting Palin over her environmental record.

In a video premiering on the organization’s new Web site,, Judd takes aim at Palin for allegedly promoting the aerial killing of wolves in Alaska, and goes so far as to accuse Palin of proposing bounties for severed forelegs of killed wolves.

“It is time to stop Sarah Palin and stop this senseless savagery,” Judd says in the ad.

I really like Sarah Palin.....I think she would have made a wonderful Vice President.....You Betcha!!!!

Mathew Owens   February 3rd, 2009 10:43 am ET

Good for Ashley Judd, maybe if Sarah Palin wake up and recongnize the fact of being groomed by the Republican Party isn't a wise decission. We all saw how well that worked out for Monica Goodling.

The smartest thing for Sarah Palin would be, to go home to Alaska get in touch with WE THE PEOPLE, For I'm pretty sure next election she might just need her job as mayor. For some to say Alaskians are out of touch with lower 48, maybe Mrs. Palin next election you'll learn it's not the color of skin, or your sex, the party aka union or whatever, It's a matter of if you have a HUMAN HEART beating in your chest.

Terry   February 3rd, 2009 11:35 am ET

Ashley Judd.....please....your environmental crazies & PETA crazies & paying for all the illegal alien social programs attitude has brought your California to bankruptcy..

Now you want a California bailout....and you waste your and money on this. Did you get instructions from the White House for diversionary tactics or was it George Soros.

In this time of financial crisis you guys have all the money to spend on this sensationalism and to riot in the streets for nothing.

Obviously you have lived in the city too long and are making too much Texas we kill coyotes. ..yea ...yea even set traps. There are reasons...which wouldn't be worth explaining...and by no means illegal....why this is done.

Lady,,,,the Hollywood crowd is dead to this country...we have bigger problems. Remember taxpayers keep you making the millions you do....and these same people can take it away.

John Hanley   February 3rd, 2009 11:42 am ET

Hey Debbie, I thought if I found you anywhere, I would find you here. You are right. You are not alone. They cut off the last subject we were talking on but not before I got the ultimate insult from someone named Delphine or something like that. She claims to have information that I am in reality Rush Limbaugh in disguise. Boy, did she put me in my place! I'm glad I didn't put my e-mail address on this Blog. Would probably lock my computer up. Still enjoy your input and will look for your next entry.

Terry   February 3rd, 2009 11:47 am ET

Oh the way...I am sure you were in agreement to not drill in California last week...COULDN'T USE THE REVENUES FOR A BANKRUPT CALIFORNIA. Now you part of the bailout. Hello. I'm sure Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Speigel, Barrymore, O'Donnell, Jane Fonda...etc....etc...etc....were right along with you.

Well you celebrity millionaires better not get use to your money....people have turned you off....

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 12:55 pm ET

This is exactly what people need to know about Palin. Women see through the deception other women try and pass off as good and decent. Please, Palin was dressed up and painted up tp appear to be someone she is not. I quess there is not much to do in Alaska but after the fun she has with slaughtering animals ,how about doing something for those special needs children she was so cheerleading for in the campaign. Maybe she would not have enough time to kill unprotected animals. John please tell me you are not Rush!

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 1:11 pm ET

I am a wildlife lover and understand the realities of having a population control program on all predators and prey to keep the balance of Nature somewhat in balance. I am not for the senseless killing of any animal unless it is a last resort but when that situation is reality then there are certain ethical ways to do it. I believe in relocation on some animals like wolves. I am not for the senseless slaughter of any animal . I am a recreational hunter since I was a boy and have shot many a deer, rabbit, and game birds. Everything I killed was consumed. If you kill it, you eat it! I love venison and it is extremely healthy for you to eat. Low fat and hardly any cholesterol. Bison is also a great meat replacing Beef these days due to it's low fat and reduced cholesterol. Bison are also more eco friendly grazers as well. People need to refrain from killing an animal because it is a nuisance to the city or neighborhood. There are alternatives and they should be implemented first and foremost. So far as Sarah Palin goes, if she eats what she kills then I am with her. If she cuts off the paws of wolves after their senseless slaughter without trying other alternatives first, then I think she is no better than a sick serial killer whom is evil to the core. She will be reincarnated as a wolf and some other sicko will hunt her down from some helicopter with a high powered rifle with a scope, shoot her dead, then cut off all her paws and tail leaving her corpse crimson on that pure white snow. Murder is all that really is and of no merit since the animal doesn't stand a chance. Get a regular gun, no scope, don a set of snowshoes, hike way out yonder where you to can be eaten by a polar bear or grizzly, and hunt on foot. The indian way that evens the playing field. Now that would be impressive and you can kill anything with teeth and claws.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Politically speaking out on Sarah Palin. She has almost singlehandedly set females back at least ten years. She has been cited in violating her official powers by an independent committee back in Alaska. I was hoping that she would dry up and blow away after her defeat with Senator McCain. I actually respected him but definitely not in awe with her. She has misused her offficial powers during her term as mayor in Wasilla by trying to ban books in a public library, because she didn't approve of them. McCarthyism 21st century style is all that was about, and when the head librarian refused to do so, then she was almost fired at Palin's request to the council. Her sister then was getting divorced from a Alaskan State Trooper during her time as Governor. Sarah Palin did everything humanly possible to get the trooper fired, but the Chief denied her request also. Do you see a pattern here, mainly a public servant abusing her powers to manipulate people to punish people that don't succumb to her wishes. If she did it as mayor, and did it again as Governor, don't you think she would eat up all the power that the vice presidents office has and spit people out. This is a perfect example of a power hungry manipulative, vengeful, abusive, egocentric maniac that needs a time out at least. Does any body out there see all this or is it just me?

John Hanley   February 3rd, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Hey Debbie, Thought I'd see you in here. No, you can breath evenly again. I am not Rush. I wouldn't even take his checking account if he offered to give it to me. What a thing to call someone you've never met. I would have felt much better if she had called me Jane Fonda. No, don't you worry, I'm not Jane either. Willing to provide my birth certificate if need be. As for the issue of hunting, I am generally neutral. Where I grew up in Northern Illinois, it was mostly farm country and hunting was a common sport. I went out with a couple of friends one time in a boat supposedly duck hunting. We saw something they called a Mud Duck that would duck under the water for some time. One friend shot the bird but then threw it away as he didn't consider it worth keeping. That was the last time I went hunting and I never fired a shot. I am against hunting wolves, polar bear, whales, and other creatures that God saw fit to place on this planet with us. I have a little less problem with native americans hunting as they have a tendency to respect the creatures that they hunt. Don't want to be a hypocrite because I do eat meat. Just happy I don't have to watch them meet their demise. As for Sarah Palin on this issue, if she really supports hunting wolves in this fashion then she and I have a serious disagreement. I realize that out west, many ranchers see wolves as a threat to their cattle, horses, land sheep but I still feel they should use restraint when dealing with troublesome predators. I wan't too impressed when Sarah had her photo taken with a Turkey standing in front of a Turkey assembley line. Oh yes, and I do love to eat Turkey. I realize that in Alaska, hunting is a very common and perhaps even necessary thing. So I don't condem Sarah for her love of hunting. I do break ranks with her when it comes to hunting wolves, bears, etc from the sky. That's dirty pool in my mind. So, my final comment is "Lions, and Tigers, land Bears, OH MY!

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 1:48 pm ET

If hunting is someone's thing to do then that is their buisness but like all things, are there not hunting seasons or is Alaska rules differ from the rest of the USA? I just can't imagine a woman saying I'm a hockey mom and rip out a gun and shoot a wolf. I really have a hard time putting that image together. I know there are avid hunters but they usually don't wear high heels.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Alaska....the last true american frontier. A pristine land where the pigs wear lipstick just like the hockey moms. A land of bountiful game and fish but the wolves are nervous. The land of Palin where books can be burned, librarians fired along with state troopers that divorce the governors sister. I just want to pack my bags and run up to that mecca of ignorance. Nothing personal towards the good people of Alaska, but your Governor is a egocentric, power monger, whom abuses her official powers at the blink of an eye. Don't get in her way, because she will literally assasinate you from her helicopter with a high powered rifle w/ scope. I fear for the wolves!

Mathew Owens   February 3rd, 2009 2:35 pm ET

well my Image of Sarah Palin is this, Stllleto heels, thou she doesn't know how wear them properly, via the republican party needs to groom her, Runs in her panty hose hanging about her ankles, as she has no international diplomacy skills, mini skirt way too short as it bares her ..... when she sits down, as she is out of touch with Americas true needs, Halter top bra, as she doesn't know when and where to get proper support, Her glasses ERUO style as NAFTA CAFTA took our jobs, As republicans say we citizens need to spend spend spend as we haven't the cash to make mortgage payments, Her hair a do, weigh in need of a makeover of thought, as she really needs to find solid ground for those steellieto heels, to have the desired stance.

sean brizendine   February 3rd, 2009 2:53 pm ET

hi larry i'm a big fan of yours my name is sean in santa rosa and i am a novice political blogger and what i have to say about the sarah palin and ashley judd situation is "only in america" thank you and i look forward to sending you more blogs.

"sean in santa rosa"

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 3:04 pm ET

I'm glad there is people on here who see the lip stick bright and red. Do not blog on fox news ,they will want your hide if you talk about Palin. Some close their eyes to killing animals when they hope their 2012 hopeful will try and run again. If I was Palin I would go away and hope people will forget what a fool I made out of myself. Palin read those political books especially, Palin might get appointed to office if a republican(GOD FORBID) ever wins again. Elisabeth Hasselbedck thinks Palin is smart, so there you go.

diamond again   February 3rd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Ashley Judd–Kudos to you girlfriend! Very well spoken and such an elegant persona.

Joe G. (From Illinois)   February 3rd, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Ms. Ashley Judd.. I’m sure God is listening on how you care so much about wolves in Alaska.. NEVER MIND YOU SUPPORTING ABORTION.. You just keep your spirits strong. But in the mean time would you please remember that Sarah Palin is a Political figure watched under a microscope.. So would you please give her an inch of latitude? Thank you.

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Only a man has a big problem with abortion, in the first place it should be a woman's choice so Ashley being a woman has a right to feel strong in her decision. Men leave and have no responsibility so who are you to tell a woman what to feel it is her body, her decision and women have to live with that choice so men have no right to judge on that personal issue. Anyway Ashley is a strong believer in animal protection so just because Palin likes to slaughter animals not all women agree .

Terry   February 3rd, 2009 4:37 pm ET

These California Environmental Crazies ....mostly the celebrity world ....need to gather their billions and donate them to the California budget and not worry about approved wildlife state procedures. That is handled by the states wildlife departments and the rest of world doesn't have heroes who are politicians and celebrities. Why would they be crying for a bailout from the nation if they are so smart.

The world does not begin and end on celebrity fact...the wise person would never agree with anything coming out of California.

John Hanley   February 3rd, 2009 5:14 pm ET

Hey Debbie! Nice to see you out there and keeping busy. Nothing controversial to say on this one although it is interesting. I don't really have dog in this fight but if I may say, I kind of like the wolves in this one.

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 5:28 pm ET

Hi John well palin already made Pam Anderson mad when she found out Palin likes to see a moose with a bullet in its head, so why not get Ashley mad. Finally they are coming out of the woodwork for me. That is sad to know about the severing of their paws. I can tell you I'm a city girl from Texas but as much as I'm not a country girl. I don't feel for kicks I could kill these animals.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 8:54 pm ET

I would like a pack of wolves to attack her and then gnaw off her arms and legs. Her Hubby should get the same. I am thinking maybe the whole family.

Dace Tucson AZ   February 3rd, 2009 9:06 pm ET

You know the predictor of violence against humans is the torture (not hunters with moral values) of animals. So anyone with a brain may all be headed for camps if this hideous thing every gets more power. Anyone that takes on her evil deeds and lies is a hero.

Happygolucky   February 3rd, 2009 9:46 pm ET

Ashley Judd, Does just what liberals do...they just present one side of the story...Sorry Ms Judd but too many people are smarter then that. Your trying to portray something in the minds of people that just isn't true....People will get all the facts before they fall for your hollywood sensationalism.

I love everyone bashing the republican party and palin while the democrats dont pay taxes in the good old usa

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 9:55 pm ET

ashley can worry about animals but she doesnt have to worry about paying for her merchandise while shopping. ( sailor you know what Im talking about dont you?)

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:00 pm ET

Maybe its time to take our focus off of someone that did not get into office this last fall and put it onto the people that are or are trying get into office. Lets look into seeing how our democratic saviors of the world are doing ( I SCREWED UP ! ) Nice quote after two weeks in office. Must be all that experience that has built up over the years.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:01 pm ET

Democrats don't have to bash Republicans and it never really was their style anyway. That is a pure republican tactic at heart. Republicans lost because they claime George Bush Jr. as their messiah, when he actually became their own demise.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:05 pm ET

Sailor how is the democratic messiah doing ( I SCREWED UP )

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

I am reading stupidity from a sore sport of the Republican Clan! Speaking of the clan, aren't you late for your meeting?

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Are the democrats afraid of Palin so they are continuing to blast her ?

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

I will phone Nancy Pelosi and tell her to send you a large box of condoms immediately. After all, it is ignorant people like yourself that they were surely intended for!

Ashley Judd takes on Sarah Palin!

Finally, someone showing what Palin is actually doing! I have heard about this from clients who happen to be hunters and very wealthy.

I am thrilled that this is finally getting on the news!

Congratulations to you Ashley!!! Great Job!

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Hell No! I am just getting warmed up. What do you got mailboy?

Dodie from CA   February 3rd, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Thanks to CNN for getting rid of mailman! becareful, this person might try to log on in another name.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:25 pm ET

Maybe The state of california and their beloved Pelosi and Judd should pay attention to their own state and their finacial woes instead of alaska. Maybe their skipping their taxes.. But if you dont pay for your things you dont pay taxes on the items you stole. Sailor maybe ashley should remove the plank in her Eye before she starts picking on the speck in someone elses eye. in other words the bible says to take care of your own front porch before you try to clean someones else's

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:32 pm ET

Ok so you aren't just a kindergarten actually made it to the 5th grade! You are a living argument for Abortion!

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:32 pm ET

Sorry dodie Im here. By the way sailor Im for all americans I am tired of the parisan bolagna in washington. Obama and the democrats constantly said they will end that when in office. It worked to get them their but it didnt happen. I have nothing against you or any other american loving person but when I see a person like pelosi in office it scares me to death. Why the division. Why to continue to attack Palin. Is she hurting ashley? I believe we have bigger problems than wolves in the state of alaska dont we.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Your existence scares me more than Nancy Pelosi in the White House.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Why the anger sailor . Are you part of the division in America. Or are you a Cardinals Fan. Either you are part of the solution or you are part of the problem. And Im sorry to say but you sound like a part of the Pelosi Problem. Have I insulted you ( like you have me )

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:42 pm ET

The only thing I can say to The Pelosi Generation is that my Grandfather told me that you cannot argue with ignorance. You will never win and it is not worth your time. By the way you obviously love pelosi tell me one thing smart she has said

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:46 pm ET

Sailor you still mad at me? Dodie how about you ? Why have you both been against a person that believes in God, Family and America?

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 10:47 pm ET

When you stand up before Americans and call yourself a hockey mom and a crusader for those normal folks out there, the joe six packs and those kind, well it is hard to believe you are sincere when you don't bat an eye in killing animals that can't protect themselves. It is down right scary. Palin can be a mayor and governor but the VP or being President seems a far reach for her. Hillary could not do this why would Palin even come close, Hillary is very smart and educated.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:49 pm ET

Sailor you there lol.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:52 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is the real deal for American, and for all women. She is a beacon to all that women are great representatives and can best any man in her profession. I am so glad that she is a true position of power even though I supported her for president. I like her passion, grit, and down to earth practicality. She will be a legendary Secretary of State.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 10:58 pm ET

Sailor do you have a clue what is happening in washington in the last 100 years you dont have a single comment but insults and your still in here I guess to hurl insults. Dodie your right Hillarry does have a better resume for washington, My only problem with her is I think that people get in washington and forget where they came from to many lobbyist and they have to pay back the people that got them where they are. Like now she is asking for money to help pay for her election campaign? She was looking to get into the white house isnt that her problem ?

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 10:59 pm ET

You confuse my dislike for Sarah Palin as some carte blanche partisan anti republican knee jerk reaction. I don't like her because I have researched her and know who she truly is. I recommend you take off your red shirt and tie, and research her as well. This is nothing political to me concerning her. I couldn't give two poops about all that. Call an Ace an Ace, and a Palin a bad egg.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 11:01 pm ET

Sailor she didnt best any man in her profession ( Obama ) or she would be president;.

sailormansea   February 3rd, 2009 11:05 pm ET

Palin is not just a bad egg for republicans, she is bad for America in general. If you can't see the forest from the trees then that is your failure, not mine. Palin is bad for american women too, and if you don't believe me then do some research and listen once in a while to others. Have you ever done that?

John Hanley   February 3rd, 2009 11:07 pm ET

Good Evening Debbie! Just going thhrough my evening insulin ritual. I made the mistake of checking the thing that offers to let you know if there are any new comments. I checked e-mail and I had 50 plus new ones. Wow! What a back and forth. Are you sure you want to get into this. More fun just watching the back and forth. Oh Look! Another new e-mail! I'm sorry guys but the only thing I see is ignorence calling ignorance ignorant. Please guys! The purpose here is to exchange ideas not practice the lastest fashion in potty mouth.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 11:08 pm ET

Sailor she is out of the political picture so move on and lets band together and worry about the real problems of this country. and I really hope ashley the shoplifter judd will do the same. I didnt vote for Obama but it doesnt matter now does it. I half to live with the outcome and band together with other americans to make this the greatest country we can. I am going to continue to fight against parisanship in washington. Let me ask you a question – Do you think we need to get rid of the two party system to get rid of parisanship to avoid confritation like this because of party loyalship?

Debbie   February 3rd, 2009 11:16 pm ET

John, Hi my new friend, now listen I'm not sure who you are making your statement to but Ashley does have a true concern for animals. I know you don't like Palin dumping grounds but what she done to those animals is terrible. I admit i don't like gritters but I would run from them not shoot them and then sever their paws off. You can hide or leave them alone but to delibertly kill one in which they have no place to hide is so mean! Where have you been john I missed talking to you!

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 11:16 pm ET

John I have always loved politics and believe the two party system is nothing but divisive. I am tired of dems attacking Palin ( not that im in favor of her ) I like McCain though. But to sit and listen to politicians sit there and believe their party has all the answers and not willing to listen is unreal. Maybe I live in a make believe world. but unless we work together we are in big trouble.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 11:26 pm ET

So for the record what is palin trying to do to solve the problem with wolves. Ive heard three different stories.

mailman   February 3rd, 2009 11:28 pm ET

Sailor what makes Ashley Judd the Saint on the right thing to do ?

John Hanley   February 3rd, 2009 11:31 pm ET

Hi Again Debbie! While we don't always agree, we agree on this subject. I just was glad to see you jump in there and at least put a little variety in the show. I have been out to the mortgage company a good part of the day. My wife and I are building a new house. A big step and makes me a little nervous. Don't worry, we're still friends. I did put a comment in here a little earlier. I don't condemn hunters. I just am not one of them. I just love all those little Bambi's running around and even the Big Bad Wolf that may be chasing them.
Mailman, I realize you and sailorman have some clear differences of opinion but your battle was beggining to degrade into what appeared to be a "Who has More Testosterone than Who?" I appreciate your toning it down a little bit. Debbie will tell you I love a good debate. As for sailorman sea, I don't know if you are a real sailor man but you sure know how to swear like one. I spent 27 years in the Army and learned a few swear words in my time and heard even more but when you get into that angry mode, you lose any sense of the points you are trying to make. Do appreciate your taking a short break though. Oh! I see more e-mails are coming in so I am probably falling behind in the goings on. Come on guys! We are all Americans, I think! We have enough real enemies to start fighting among ourselves. Oh yes! And just in case someone misinterprets my entry, I am not running for public office.

John Hanley   February 3rd, 2009 11:41 pm ET

Hey Debbie, Sorry I didn't answer your first question. I wasn't addressing my comment to anyone in particular. Just fishing around to see if you were out there. Oh my!, Now see what I have done! Sailorman sea has decided to include me in this. Well! Sorry sailorman; if you really are a sailorman. If what you have been doing is carrying on a legitimate conversation with another willing participant, pardon me for interrupting. I may be a geek but at least I freely give my real name and don't hide behind some made up persona. I prefer not to drop to your level. I will simply enjoy watching you swim in your own sewage. I'll take another shot of insuling if you will take little something soothing for yourself. In the greater importance of things, Sarah Palin really has very little effect on my life or yours. Chill out sonl!

John Hanley   February 4th, 2009 12:02 am ET

OK, One more time before this old man goes to bed. So you are a real sailorman and you have been carrying on a clean conversation and I am cutting in on your conversation. Look! I won't waste any more of my time on someone of your idea of intelligent conversation. If you don't see what I am referring to when I say potty mouth, then I can only refer you back to your own commentary of the last hour or so. Just for your information though, you do not own this blog. Even I can log in and have my say. But if your want to get into my service in the Army (and this is directed at you personally and not the thousands of people service in the U.S. Navy), it is not the U.S. Army that has the reputation you refer to. As a REAL SAILOR MAN, you might be careful how you throw the term fag around. I didn't start out to attack you personally but since you couldn't resist yourself, I know you just can't help yourself, but just a friendly suggestion take a look at yourself in a mirror. You are one angry person and I don't think Sarah Palin explains it. I will be back, so don't get too excited. It will take more than the likes of you to make me go away. At least I have helped Mailman a little by taking a little of your anger away. Oh yes, I thought you offered Mailman to allow some others to vote on who should give up the fight and agreed that if you lost the vote, you would admit defeat. Well, it appears most sensible folks of either opinion have long since given up and decided to blog again another day.

sailormansea   February 4th, 2009 12:07 am ET

Good Nite John Boy! Better rest up Gomer Pile!

ed ,vancouver canada   February 4th, 2009 12:39 am ET

In Canada aerial hunting is illegal. It is a federal offense to use an aircraft even for spotting purposes to hunt or fish.
All the united states needs to do is lobby the FAA to do the same and this senseless killing will stop.
Without an aerial advantage, the wolves have the chance to hide behind the bushes and chew on the hunters.
Either that or teach the wolves how to fly helicopters.

Debbie   February 4th, 2009 12:40 am ET

I wonder if Alaska has any kind of hunting laws or specific seasons you can hunt. Someone has to oversee this, I know in Texas there is certain times of the year you can hunt a animal., like a deer. I never heard of a big problem with moose here but some Texans love deer season. Deer are cute animals but that is a later discussion. Good luck on your house John.

sailormansea   February 4th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

To answer your question Debbie, in most states there are seasons for hunting and those seasons are different for each animal that there is a hunting season for. These seasons and amounts or tags are issued to people that pay for licenses for that specific season and therefore a particular animal. There are rules that apply also. Namely the type of weapon that the hunter can use such as shotgun, bow, black powder gun, crossbow, high powered rifle, etc. If the hunter is caught exceeding his/her limit or violating the terms of the hunting license and or limit then their are fines that range from the hundreds of dollars, or thousands along with confiscation of vehicles, atv's, boats, or in palin's case a helicopter. Whatever property or vehicle that is utilized by the violating hunter at the time of the violation. The game wardens or DNR officers will seize all that and issue the citations and possibly take the violating hunters to jail depending on the severity of the violation. Wolves in Alaska are not a protected or edangered species so they fall in the crack of the system so to speak. Nobody to look out for their protection legally, and the wildlife authorities haven't made it illegal to kill them yet. They are considered to be pests if you will to the ranchers and other settlers that have taken over the landscape of Alaska. Urban and suburban sprawl exists there as well. Ethical people on the wildlife issue and animal rights activists everywhere realize the environmental impact that we as humans make when we build an airport, mall, new subdivision of homes. These environmental impacts are especially true when we develop a wild area that is home to a whole spectrum of animals. When we build houses right on pristine lakes in Florida and then complain about the gators is a prime example of this. Now in the state there are laws that were legislated that every gator that is over 3 1/2 feet that is causing a problem in the hood will be shot dead. Causing a problem can be him or her just hanging out on the shore of the lake that turns out to be now someones backyard. Do you think the gator knows that the property is owned by someone else, so now they can't do what comes natural anymore. Next thing gators whom were at harmony with other species from an ecological point of view are suddenly banished from their own home so to speak and shot dead if they get the new landowners the least bit nervous. It is like people moving next to an already built and bustling airport, then complain about the noise of the jets to the authorities. Nobody speaks for animals like these predators such as gators, snakes, wolves, sharks, but god put them here for a reason and that is to keep the whole planet in balance. We are the ones that violate the balance, not the others. We need to realize that the survival of a species is directly linked to our own survival. That denial is like our brains argument with the body, that they don't need each other to survive.

Hey Debbie! Just checking e-mail again before going to meet the wife at work. You know, I am actually impressed. You did much better in your conversation with sailorman sea than I did. You clearly have the golden touch. I am also impressed with the extent of his knowledge on the subject of hunting. Maybe I misjudged him a little bit which as you know, I have a tendency to do. Anyway, Way to Go Sailor Man! I much prefer this version of discussion. Catch you all later.

We have done to animals in this country what we have done to the North American Native Americans. We have stolen their homes, put them in ranges/reservations, neglected and in some cases denied their right to exists in our world unless they are at a zoo or a similar controlled area. The corelation is extremely similar when you think about it except for the fact that wolves can't speak english, where as the native americans have learned the tongue and the white man ways. The native americans attitude as stewards of their land had a much different attitude towards the fellow animals in their world. Firstly, no native from any tribe ever owned any land. That is the white man way to own the land and was never comprehended by any tribe. The animals were respected and even worshipped by the tribes. Even the names of their own children were of animal nature in the majority of the cases. Remember Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse? They were at harmony with their own environment and only killed for food, and to provide them with hides to make shelter or blankets to keep them from freezing to death in the harsh winters. Even the canoes were either of hide construction or dug out from trees. Think about how advanced they were for their time from an ecological point of view. Nobody has ever been more eco-friendly than the native americans. Now we have to pay out the nose for gas, heating oil, and a zillion other things because we have built a house of cards. We built a sandcastle during low tide is how it will go down in the history of the earth. When we succeed in killing each other or destroying the planet entirely will we finally stop obviously. Unless we can stop the madness, realize our mistakes and turn it around to do things smarter from this day on. It is everybodys responsibility on earth to ourselves, our children, and the generations to come. Not only that, but it is our responsibility to make this planet healthier for all the animals that don't have celebs or organizations speaking up for them. It is our choice in the end. I am doing my part by recycling, using less gas because I started riding my motorcycle more than riding around in a big truck that now is sitting idle for 8 months. I drive it only when absolutely necessary for utility sake since I live in the country. I only run the heat during certain hours, I don't shoot the critters but share my old peanuts with them instead. I am happy despite the problems of having parents that are old with alzheimers living close by. I try to look at the big picture.

Harley's are green, even if they are not green in color.

sailormansea   February 4th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Oh yeah buy Home Grown made in America stuff too, cuz it keeps fellow countrymen working. We should of been doing that in this country for decades also. The best social program is a good job. That should be the real stimulus package! Jobs galore especially in greener technologies such as building cars like the Toyota Scion which is literally driving themsellves off the lots. We put a man on the moon for Christ's sake! Gm has a flex fuel car that they have been selling for many years now down in Brazil. It will run on gas or their version of ethanol which is actually from a sugar cane derivative rather than that of corn which is the case with our version. The difference is the energy yield. Alcool which is the Brazilian sugar can fuel yields a much higher octane by at least 10%. It is like running your car on some high octane rum...and guess what...hardly any toxic emissions. Brazil is now totally energy independent and have been that way for many years now. We should follow in their footsteps. There are literally a bunch of rum companies going out of business in the US Virgin Islands right now....Can the shift from making rum be switched to producing Alcool for fuel. Louisiana and a lot of other southern continental states have the capability of growing large amounts of sugar cane as well. Dixie Crystals is from the South, namely Louisiana. We have all of these potentials to solve all of our problems right here under our very feet yet nothing ever seems to reallly get done! I think we as a nation should do just like Brazil so we can tell the Saudi's No Thanx in about ten years. If we would of done it back when they made the commitment to switch, then we wouldn't be in this huge massive catastrophic mess like we find ourselves in now. I even like the name of the fuel " Alcool" though I would add an extry l in the word and make it " Allcool"

This confirms my suspicion that she is truly a redneck from Alaska. Have you noticed that the republican party is consisted of either ignorant red necks like palin, or hypocrite pro lifers, or hypocritical holier than thou morons that usually get exposed like the long list of them that have crashed and burned over the decades. The latest example of that hypocrite is Taggert turn queer dude that has been on lkl recently. Now he is facing more problems with accusations since the recent show. Why doesn't he just go on Jerry Springer and come out of the closet already. If he isn't gay then I am not writing here. The only thing that I can say is that they need to have some decent person like Duncan Hunter or someone whom is not full of kakadoodle and doo.

Hey Sailor Man Sea, I see you are still out there. Read your latest comments and discover we are not that far off after all. I agree, we are all going to have to take action now with the environment and the problem with energy. I'm counting on President Obama to make that happen. Don't know if you have heard of T. Boone Pickens. He is a Texas Billionaire Oil Man who has gone green big time. He is putting his own money into wind energy and pushing congress to set up the infrastructure for Natural Gas outlets at Gas Stations. He wants to start by having the government mandate all large trucks be built to use natural gas and those older ones converted with government help. You are probably already aware that we have some of the largest natural gas resources in the world and that it burns clean. He has a web site that tells a lot about it. He has already set down with President Obama and appears to have his support. I also agree about the need to preserve our worlds wildlife. I would not like my granddaughters to grow up in a world without them.
For some reason, I had imagined you to be a young man probably somewhere in the 20's or 30's. The fact that you have two parents suffering with Alzheimers leads me to believe that you may even be closer to my age. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for getting into useful details that will hopefully educate some people who may not be aware. Be checking back on you all later.
Debbie. See you were in and out earlier. Glad to see you contributing.

sailormansea   February 4th, 2009 7:57 pm ET

Seriously though, I have heard of him and have actually seen him on LKL. Very credible and impressive man with great ideas. I think that natural gas is the way to go for the bigger vehicles on the road. It is either that or biodiesel or a combo of the two. Sort of like hot dogs and beans! Who doesn't like a good hot dog with some great boston baked beans? It will take a choice of fuels to replace the huge void that gas/oil will leave. It has to be done though even if there is no one silver bullet to solve the dilemma. Suddenly .....I have a craving for a Nathans with sauerkraut, a big bowl of boston baked beans and an iced cold Coor Lite. I must of blogged thru dinner again!

Debbie   February 4th, 2009 8:17 pm ET

I understand Alaska is not like the rest of the states and they do things there I would not want to participate in but living in Houston there is not a chance here to be bored. I can only imagine it must cost a pretty penny to do this wild game hunting. Is Alaska paying for Palin"s entertainment of shooting defenseless animals, or is that a perk of being in office. I know a over abundance of a species need to be controlled but how about capturing them and maybe taking these animals somewhere that is not so populated with the same environmental surroundings. John, I think I have been more civil toward my views!

John Hanley   February 4th, 2009 9:04 pm ET

Sailorman sea – Cute – "I only act like a child, I am really not one." I'm not sure if T. Boone Pickens was ever in a movie with The Duke but if he did, he would make a good one. He's in his 80's and if you were to look in the dictionary for the word "Texan" you would likely see a photo of T. Boone. He is trying to sign up as many people as he can for "His Army" and use it to influence the politicians to get off their rear ends and take the issue seriously. He keeps pointing out what better use we could make of the billions we send to the OPEC and other oil producing nations, a good many of who really don't like us very much.
If I hadn't already eaten, I could go for a cold beer and a Chicago Style Hot Dog. I am hoping to see automobiles using natural gas in my lifetime. I know Corn Ethanol is good but I understand it uses up a good amount of gasoline just to produce it. Brazil is an excellent example of what can be done if we just decide to do it. I think it's going to take constant pressure from all of us to get them moving. President Obama promised to do something about it and I believe he is making a real effort to keep his promise.
Hey Debbie, You get a Gold Star although you don'e need my approval. A shame we can't get the people in Congress to discuss their differences the same way. I don't think we will have long to wait before we see some real changes take place. I'm rooting for the part where they want to lower interest rates on mortgages for obvious selfish reasons. Not a bad idea to help people buy new cars either. We need to keep the industry and it's jobs afloat. Well, I've been told that I have to go out into the living room and spend some time with my wife. What can I say! I'm just an Old Wus as our friend Sailorman sea might say. See you all when I see ya!. Oh yes! I also enjoy the input from our neibhbors to the North.

For the life of me, I cannot see what Blagojevich did that was so wrong that the state of Illinois gov"t wanted or had legal standing to throw him out of office for.

Now they are preparing some kind of nonsense to throw him in jail for. This is a disgrace. All I could find wrong was, he had a foul mouth. But no money or favors to my understand was ever exchanged. He never got a dime from anyone as far as I could understand. Even the situation about the so-called, hospital trade off situation. But for some strange and untold reason, the state of Illinois really wants this man not in, but under a jail,

And (Letterman, Leno, etc ): ALL THE STAND UP COMICS, AND TALKING HEADS, think the Blagojevich situation is something to have a good laugh about, WHEN IT REALLY IS NOT.

I"ve got a feeling that what just happened in Illinois, will again happen to someone else, that everyone will know and respect. And perhaps then, everyone will not find the BLAGOJEVICH situation so funny, but only look back and recall what was allowed to happen to BLAGOJEVICH.

But it looks like even that will be allowed to happen! Get a grip America, this is not funny.

Judith   February 4th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

Some of the media still want to keep Sarah Palin going when in fact many from her State complain about her. It's funny it doesn't bother her having ones getting paid $150.00 per paw of a killed wolf when in fact where her husband fishes that part is protected.Sarah calls it studying the fish.

Kelly Marcotte   February 4th, 2009 11:26 pm ET

What Ashley did really is a disappointment, I use to enjoy her movies unfortuntley she had to open her big mouth. What she did, to go after Sarah Palin is ridiculous. I think the actors are forgetting ,that we are the reason they are being paid the high salaries. If they aren't on the A list know one cares, know one pays to see them anymore. I think this year would be a good year for change.

Debbie   February 4th, 2009 11:29 pm ET

Does anyone find all of this cutting off of wolves paws a little sick. It really scares me to think this is a sport. I would not want to pal around with a wolf but keeping a paw around the house is eerie. Palin is a strange one to say the least. I watched Lisa Lampanelli and if you get a chance check her out, she has alot to say on Palin. John your wife sounds like me, I have to chase my husband off his comp. too.All we want is a little attention. Palin defends her helicopter shootings with excuses to lower wolve count. The next thing we will read is wolves are getting extinct. How are girls in Alaska being raised, all that snow and shooting animals is the great thing to do there. Palin in the White House and trigger happy,SCARY.

sailormansea   February 5th, 2009 3:39 am ET

I do find it extremely disturbing from a humane point of view. Every animal has the right to live and not be murdered. What if we took the murder/manslaughter charge off the books for a couple of months. It is essentially the same thing. The justified murder of innocent animals living in nature doing what comes natural to them. Now if they attacked her and she had to shoot one out of self preservation, then I would be defending her here instead.

sailormansea   February 5th, 2009 3:49 am ET

Had to check my pups to see if they were comfy in their new dogloo. Extra afghans and blankets to keep my pups warm. They aren't really pups either, just old yellow labs and a golden retriever. I woke up to a nightmare of Sarah Palin shooting at them from a helicopter, and then saw severed paws hanging on a string over a fire with sickos gathered around a fire smiling oddly. The devil and her advocates for sure! I ran out of the house to check on my dear loved animals. Yes, even an old sailorman that swears on a blog sometimes has a real heart under that hard salt exterior.

sailormansea   February 5th, 2009 4:40 am ET

BLAGOWITCH IS A CRIMINAL PURE AND SIMPLE. Just because he wasn't caught with the cookie in his hand doesn't mean he was innocent. He was openly selling the seat that Obama had to the highest bidder which is illegal. The FBI has the tapes plain as day because he was on a watch list due to his unethical ways. People should be glad that the FBI is doing their job and arresting people for doing illegal things despite their political connections/power. The feds took him down like they are supposed to do. Next stop for the feds is the investigation into Sarah Palin for where all the money came from for this mega house they live in and all the toys they seem to have. All these so called friends that helped them build their new mansion in Alaska. Remember the late Senator Ted Stevens and what he did. It is what they do up there to get the ear and hand of a Governor or Senator. It is the Alaskan method so to speak. I hope she didn't accept all those materials as gifts and all that free labour with strings attached. She needs to be thouroughly investigated so maybe she will not have too much time on her schedule to support the genocide of a species. Go Ashley Judd! So far as Ashley supporting Abortion.....I am a man and that is not a man issue in my humble opinion. That is a womans right to do what she feels is right for her individual situation. A choice to be made by each woman separately, and not to be dictated by anyone else....especially a man...on what her personal choice will be. I think that is why they call this part of what is commonly known as Womens Rights. We all have to make our own choices in this life, good or bad, we will answer for them sooner of later but the other questions that pro life support have some merit but where life starts is the root of the question. Does it start when the egg becomes fertilized by the sperm? What about Birth control then? Is that not a murderous tool used by women every day across the world? What about condoms? Denying life essentially? Where does life begin is the essence of the legal argument, and the legal definition of when life begins legally all over the planet is when a child or creature is born. That is when the legal crap all starts and they slap your ass and tell you good luck might wanna change your mind now and go back inside before they complete the birth certificate. The game is on now and stays on until you hopefully die with some self respect and a decent quality of life. Personally I would like to die on the toilet like a work buddy of mine did back about 5 years ago just about the day of the Super Bowl. He was just starting to watch the Super Bowl when he went into the bathroom. Sat down, took a good long you know what, and died. It seems to be the perfect way to go to me. From what I have heard through my medical emt friends that when we die we defecate almost immediately anyway. Can you be in a better position than that, with your beer sitting on the sink, sports page statistics in one hand and doing a courtesy flush with the other to prevent the paint from peeling off the walls. I promise to start spending more time in the john when I hit 55 which is not too distant. Jimmy was young but he died gracefully and finished all his personal business before they came and removed him from his throne. Oddly enough, his wife and I spoke the next day since Jimmy won a lot of money in a pool that he bought squares in. He went out a winner! His wife received his generous winnings and loved her Jimmy even more!!! See there...A sea story that doesn't begin with once upon a time and that is actually 100% true. Now when I have to go to the John....I correctly call it the Jim or Jimmy !

RE: Palin and killing of animals. Palin has DEMONSTRATED her lack of respect for not only animals but many, many other things.

Here's a short list of what Palin DISRESPECTS:

– Freedom of knowledge, by attempting to ban books.
– Freedom to learn about contraception by her state funding of Abstinence-only programs for high school students.
– Earned right to run for high office based on strong knowledge of key issues, instead of ignorance.
– Raped women, by forcing them to pay for their own rape kits.
– A woman's right to choose. Enough said.
– Intelligence, by assuming she had the ability to run for such high office. Her inability to answer basic questions confirms this.
– The Environment, by stating that global warming is not caused by humans.
– Education, by essentially not getting a proper one. Bouncing around 5 colleges was ridiculous.
– Community organizers, out grassroots heroes.
– Religion, by making a mockery out of it with her "witch doctor" episode, amongst other public beliefs.
– The Truth, by seldom speaking it.
– Integrity, by demonstrating gross opportunism.

Her lousy record includes not putting polar bears on the list of endangered animals and the aerial shooting of wolves is a reflection of how correct America was in not voting her into high office.

bernadette przybyl   February 7th, 2009 12:07 am ET

good work ashley on this i issue, and for suprorting defenders and i for protecting the wolves also and to tell that govener she should think of endanger speis act.

lynn   February 7th, 2009 12:59 am ET

Aerial Hunting is an atrocity and an embarrassment to our country.
I think even regular hunting, except where geographically necessary for food, should be reconsidered. Perhaps it is time for evolution to take hold the hunter population. This is a way of life that in most parts of north america is no longer necessary. Trophy hunting and sport hunting should be completely done away with.

Richard W. Robinson   February 7th, 2009 2:02 am ET

It's impossible for anyone who has not lived in Alaska for any length of time to understand why Gov. Palin favors aerial wolf hunts. Wolves sometimes decimate nearly entire populations of moose in different areas, areas which the native inhabitants reley on as their main food source, and share the bounty with their neighbors.
The natives in the remote villages can't hop in their car and drive down to the local supermarket to purchase their traditional foods.
Some villages do have small local stores where milk, and canned goods can be purchased at astronomical prices compared to the markets in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
The Alaskan way of life in the villages is as foreign and diverse as anyone can imagine, with much of the population living at the poverty level.
Ashley Judd should spend some time traveling, and visiting some of these villages in the middle of the winter. It would be an eye opening experience for her.
Gov. Palin has been doing a great job of understanding Alaskans needs, and she is a suberb caretaker of Alaskas resourses.

amber   February 7th, 2009 2:43 am ET

waaaaaa................I want to see this but can't get cnn....................can cnn PLEASE post this video for others to see. Thank you for having such a great show. I saw the video ad and it confirmed my feelings about Palin, she is sooooooo behind the times and the way she treats animals is barbaric. Everything is based on profits and greed instead of humane, conscious choices benefiting this planet.

johnlopez95   February 7th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Palin's agenda is purely, solely and selfishly only profit based. She lavishes support for the big oil co.s, drilling and the profits from hunting at the cost and destruction of the Alaskan wilderness, waters and animals that live there. Why worry about the moose population being thinned by wolves? Because it will cut into the profits of attracting hunters who will spend more money in Alaska. Who else would be proud of a photo showing her surround by dead carcasses hanging on the walls of her home and her parents home?

catz15   February 7th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I totally support Ashly Judd on this one! Good for you for using your fame for a GREAT cause. Animals deserve better than we humans are treating them. Palin laughs as turkeys are being slaughtered behind her, wolves are barbarically decimated and baby animals are ripped from their mothers to die in disbelief at the inhumanity of the governor of Alaska, even native Alaskan's voted against this barbaric practice.
Time to STOP this woman before she ruins all of Alaska.
