I thought mitocondrial DNS had been performed on the hair in the trunk of Casey's car and proven to be either that of Casey or Caylee. Wouldn't a match to remains just found prove this is Caylee?

Marylyn B   December 16th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Am I the only American calling for Dick Cheney to be charged with war crimes? Somebody go to his house and arrest him right now!!
Marylyn. TN

Lloyd   December 16th, 2008 9:33 pm ET

You are asking for taxpayers money. what i want to know is why when you sold ford windstars knowing that they were defective with bad transmissions and head gaskets- you did nothing. why didn't you help the consumers when you knowingly sold lemons– now you want us to help you

John   December 16th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

why dont they get help from these oil companies, they have been bleeding us dry for the last few years I think exxonmobil needs to pay up and help.

ellie   December 16th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

There was a time Lary when there were more trains and buses on the road. And all I see now is big suv. May be we should consider to go back if we ever think of going green.

Ben Wilbor   December 16th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Instead of a bailout what do you think of giving all the taxpayers a piece of the bailout, that would help everyone and i am sure that people would buy cars and payoff some bills?

Rashan   December 16th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Why doesn't Ford and Chrysler or Ford and GM just merge? They'd then pool their resources and have some strength in numbers. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are two very smart investors with a lot of money. Why doesn't Ford consider doing a joint finance venture with them, and insure the debt. I mean it isn't 1-2-3 simple but it's plausible. You could also use a line of credit from the gov't to finance the startup.

Ed St. Clairsville, OH   December 16th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

Mr. Ford,

What is Toyota and Honda doing that Ford, Chrysler and GM are not doing? I don't hear of any bailouts by these two.

paul   December 16th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

where are the small turbo desiel cars that ford sells in Europe and get 45 MPG?

sage218   December 16th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

While every other sector is cutting back, the sports industry is still overpaying its players. I hope one day the fans form a union and place demands upon the owners and players such as:

1. An across the board reduction in player salaries
2. Pay for performance
3. Sportsmanlike conduct on the field of play
4. An automatic investigation of referees and umpires when calls are
highly questionable as in the case of the Steelers-Ravens game
Sunday.
5. Lifetime banishment from the sport for illegal behavior.

Betty   December 16th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Henry would be ashamed of you- you should be ashamed of yourself

BJ Turner   December 16th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Mr. Ford.

Why is the focus only on the bailout of the big 3 US automakers, while in the meantime Toyota/Lexus gets away with murder with their oil sludge gel problem.

3.5 milllion Toyota/Lexus owners are being robbed by the manufacturer and everyone, including the media, continue to sweep their wide spread oil-sludge problem under the rug. The Big 3 are not alone in screwing the American public. Go to Nalley Lexus and check out my RX300. My car is just one of million. Mr. Ford, where is my bailout to cover a $9000 repair charge for a manufacture defect.

I thought I had a reliable vehicle that would last me through these hard times, but I was wrong. The cost of trying to repair the known oil sludge defect in the Toyota/Lexus vehicle will financially destroy me.

Excerpt below Taken from a 2004 article:

Toyota acknowledged Wednesday that millions of its cars and trucks could develop a ruinous oil-sludge problem and said it would repay owners who have had to make repairs.

david   December 16th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Please, Mr. Ford-
We all want a HYBRID SMALL PICK-UP TRUCK. most of the in town jobs done with trucks are better done with a hybrid pickup. Thank you.

Pauline   December 16th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Mr. Ford,

isn't the problem with auto industry due to the fact that a lot of jobs have left the U.S>? If people do not have jobs, how can they purchase cars, food etc. Let's get those jobs back here in the U.S. where they belong then perhaps we can see the auto industry and other industries and our country back on track

Brian   December 16th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Why aren't the oil companies helping the auto industries with the profits from record sale's??It seems that they will benefit as well.

Doralinn   December 16th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

My 1999 Ford Expedition broke down & I am shocked at the unbelievable quote of over $3000! Over $1300 to just get it driveable. I told them I don't make but $1800 a month. Ford Service asked me to fill out a Ford Credit application..... I'm sad.

clint powell   December 16th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

I have a close friend that works for ford she made 100.00 an hour on election day triple time and got the following fri off paid what about that

Jo Ann   December 16th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Since Ford doesn't need a bailout what did it do that Chrysler and GM did not?

Sande   December 16th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Why isn't anyone talking to Exxon or Chevron instead of the govt. to assist in rescue efforts for the auto industry since they are so intrinsically connected?
Sande

paul   December 16th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

where is the four cylinder turbo desiel motor for the U.S.?

ellie   December 16th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

EU is willing to give Polend and Italy millions to help those countries to transform their industre. I think we should give the money to the aouto industre unles they are willing to go green.

Bob   December 16th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Hi Larry, Would ask Bill Ford why his company and the other two Auto maker does not do business in nafrica, middle East, I here him mention Asia, south America, Europe. African is one of the largest continent in the world for a large market. This is the reason why Toyota is in the leadd, they do business in Africa, and the so call "third world Countries? You rarely find an American made Vehicle in African countries may be in south Africa.

Thank Larry

Tom Harding   December 16th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

How does a progressive advertising agency, that would like to help Ford with their marketing get through to Bill Ford? His executives will not take phone calls, or return messages. Tom Harding; 612-382-6432

ellie   December 16th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Come on Lary, they all said that Obama was not ready to lead and that he did not have experience. Why wouldn"t Kenedy be cualifyed. She was raised with polititions and she is educated and very smart.

BJ Turner   December 16th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

The Big 3 are not the only auto makers screwing the public. Toyota/Lexus continues to sweep the oil sludge problem under the rug. Maybe it has hit the air ways because of the huge advertising dollars.

About 3.3 million Toyota/Lexus vehicles are susceptible to oil sludge, which can cause thousands of dollars in damage and require replacement of the engine.

Here are the vehicles included in the settlement.

VEHICLE MODEL YEARS
Lexus RX 300 1999-2002
Camry 4 cyl. 1997-2001
Camry 6 cyl. 1997-2002
Camry Solara 4 cyl. 1999-2001
Camry Solara 6 cyl. 1999-2002
Sienna 6 cyl. 1998-2002
Avalon 6 cyl. 1997-2002
Celica 4 cyl. 1997-1999
Highlander 6 cyl. 2001-2002
Lexus ES 300 1997-2002

Check engine and oil lights are only the beginning. Don't let your dealer mislead you about the problems. Costly repairs up to $9000 and more. It's ridiculous.

Bob   December 16th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

My advice to then is to build the car for Africa, Car for Europe, Asia ,Car for US and for South America and build cars that middle class can afford

Bob   December 16th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Karen in Baltimore   December 16th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Larry – I, too, love newspapeers. I love books. I feared that the e-book was going to destroy books as we have known them for hundreds of years. But, look – the book is well-loved even more! Who wants to read a book on a screen?

Internet newspapers are so filled with ads, blinking and talking, no less, that we may get sick of it and run back to the quiet, solace of the crinkling paper filled with words.

I think it's a matter of changing their purpose. Newspapers used to be the places we went to for news, first news, bold news. We have that now on the internet and TV. What do we need newspapers for? Detail. In depth coverage. Putting it all together for us. Something we can read in one sitting. Something we don't have to search all over the freakin' internet for. We want indepth info all put together in one place. We want to come away from that reading of the paper with an understanding, maybe even an opinion about a matter that concerns us.

The Wall St. Journal is a good example of in-depth information and insight. We need more papers like that.

I hope the paper doesn't die. I hope it evolves into something better than ever.

Karen

My Dad worked for Ford Motor Company for 41 years, his Father worked for Ford for 37 years at the Rouge Plant (where the Mustang was produced). My maternal Grandfather worked for Ford for 41 years. My great-grandfather worked for Ford throughout the Great Depression. Many Uncles, cousins, siblings and in-laws worked for Ford Motor Company. I no longer reside in Michigan. I am a small business owner and I have benefitted from the fact that my family was employed by Ford. Not only my education, but my ethics and values were shaped by a family who was employed by Ford. I ask that the people of this nation recognize how widespread the good influence of this company is. Despite their failings I want to endorse the "new" Ford who I believe has the best interest of their employees and the global community at heart.

Debby Fasino   December 16th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

The streaming banner at the bottom of the CNN screen is very annoying – It's difficult to listen to the guest and adds no value to the information. If you're trying to market future CNN programs, this is not effective. Please consider removing this feature. Thank you

Robbed by Toyota/Lexus   December 16th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Attn: Ed St. Clairsville don't think that it's just the big three.

In a hush-hush manner, Toyota/Lexus has managed to settle a lawsuit involving 3.5 million vehicles that may have been damaged by engine oil sludge. This could be a result of poor engine design, overly tight tolerances between moving parts, improper cooling, or poor maintenance by customers.

The lawsuit may have been settle but the problem has not been corrected. Do a search on the internet about the oil sludge gel problem with Toyoto/Lexus and you will be appaud.

Thousands of Toyota/Lexus owners have suffered staggering financial losses and tremendous inconvenience and frustration when their vehicle engines prematurely sludged up. But more importantly, they have been subjected to unconscionable mistreatment by Toyota dealerships across the country-denied the vehicle warranty that is theirs by right of law!

Peter   December 17th, 2008 12:12 am ET

I have spent my entire life in and around the ocean and have been following the Sea Shepherd efforts to stop the mass killings of sharks, seals and currently whales. The Japanese are killing in the thousands, targeting baby whales first to draw the mothers close, and then they kill the mothers too. It's horrible. Since the hit series "Whale Wars" on Animal Planet, the Japanese did not expect the show, or it to be so successful, and they are very angry. They are now all at sea, and the Japanese have made many threats this year, putting American lives in danger.

JAPAN KILLS 1,000 WHALES A YEAR FOR COMMERCIAL PROFIT AND THEN LIES, SAYING THEY NEED TO KILL 1,000 WHALES EACH YEAR FOR "RESEARCH."

THE BACKSTORY

Australian research leads fight against whaling5 December 2008Australia's global leadership in whale conservation has been confirmed today with the announcement of an additional $26 million in measures over the next five years to create the largest international whale research program in the world, focused on answering the important science about southern ocean whales and utilising the most powerful non-lethal techniques.

Environment Minister Peter Garrett said the funding would ensure that the new Southern Ocean Research Partnership was properly resourced to continue to at least 2013-14, providing the opportunity for longer term, coordinated and comprehensive non-lethal whale and cetacean research with international partners.

"This financial commitment underpins the comprehensive reform agenda that Australia has taken to the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and sends a very clear message around the world about this Government's determination to debunk once and for all the notion that we need to kill whales to understand them.

"Our reform package is the most significant ever taken to the IWC, charting a new era for whale conservation. After making good progress at the IWC meeting in Chile in June and subsequent meetings, we're hopeful of further progress at the upcoming reform working group meeting in Cambridge, United Kingdom, later this week.

"For over two decades, the debate over 'scientific' whaling has been gridlocked in claim and counter claim, and all the while, the number of whales targeted by Japan in the Southern Ocean has increased – in particular, doubling between 2004-05 and 2005-06.It is not enough to simply say that there are non-lethal alternatives; we need to demonstrate conclusively that there is no scientific merit in the
Japanese whaling program and that it is not necessary to kill whales to understand them.

This significant investment in world-leading science, much of it co-ordinated through the Australian Marine Mammal Centre in Hobart, will transform the whaling debate. It will create the largest international whale research program in the world, focused on answering the important science about southern ocean whales and utilising the most powerful non-lethal techniques.Research will also directly benefit whale conservation in Australian waters through additional support to the Australian science community for strategic conservation needs.

Examples of this work include the centralising marine mammal stranding and sighting data from all jurisdictions in the Marine Mammal Centre, and a world-first project to assess rescue efforts for stranded whales.Mr Garrett said the package had three main components: the Southern Ocean Research Partnership will receive $11 million for a series of innovative surveys in the Southern Ocean using aircraft, ships and yachts to deploy the latest non-lethal research techniques, as well as tracking of whales along the Australian coasts.

Contributions are expected from other nations that supported this measure at the 2008 IWC meeting; the Australian Marine Mammal Centre, co-located at Hobart's Australian Antarctic Division, will receive $14.5 million to conduct competitive grants for applied, strategic research; contestable post-doctoral research positions in marine mammal research; funding for eight marine mammal scientists; support for whale research and capacity building initiatives in Pacific Island countries and a series of specialist workshops to build technical capacity in non-lethal scientific techniques; and a further $0.5 million to provide policy support for Australia's IWC objectives and reform agenda.

Australlian Antarctic Division

In addition, Australia will provide a one-off voluntary contribution of $2 million to the IWC for the development of conservation management plans; collaborative regional non-lethal research; and other priority conservation initiatives.

This investment has been carefully designed to complement Australia's intensive diplomatic work through Australia's Special Envoy for Whale Conservation, Mr Sandy Hollway, and the work of senior officials in the IWC reform working group," Mr Garrett said. This scientific research will underpin our argument against scientific whaling in the IWC and at the same time establish Australia as the Southern Hemisphere's leader in marine mammal science, accelerating our development of non-lethal methods.

Mr Garrett said the funds were in addition to the $6 million for the Southern Ocean Research Partnership for the current financial year announced last month.Australia remains absolutely committed to bringing about an end to commercial and so-called 'scientific' whaling and we will continue to take a comprehensive and strategic approach to this issue, including the consideration of international legal action.

Larry,

It is amazing to me how the tragedy of Adam Walsh could have happened. But thankfully, due to the persistance of John Walsh and his wife, a tragedy like Calee is treated differently today than it was in 1981. As a father of 7, ranging from 21 to 6, (5 girls), I cannot fathom anyone harming a single hair on any child. Unfortunately, not everyone is normal in this world, and things like this do happen. I want to see, as I am sure John Walsh does, that the authorities take their time and make sure that whomever has been found in these remains,...Justice is served!

The country seems to beleive in the "Survival of the fittest" when it comes to education and educators – i.e. raise the student scores or perish and give your spot to private schools. Why not apply the same principal to the Auto makers. They haven't produced any quality – So, let them perish and don't let them tell us the non sense about losing American jobs. If teachers can find other jobs after public schools go under, so can those industry workers.

What happened to the Washington Redskins this year? The same thing as always. They insist on running the ball no matter what? Whoever is calling the plays shoud have his head examined. Opposing teams know just what to expect, every play. If they do throw the ball, it usually a lateral where they throw it to someone at the line of scrimmage who is instantly tackled. Isn't there anyone on that team that can point out the obvious. They are too predictable.

Larry, I think Pres. Bushs' place in history would of looked a lot better if he'd of stayed on track and took out Bin Laden. The world was with us then. Left Hussian in place, had Iran between a rock and a hard place until we got ready for them and Hussain and took them both out. And unlike his Texan Predecessor LBJ, and raised taxes to fight the war instead of borrowing, and printing we would have a lot better things to remember.

Paulette   December 18th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

"Boston Legal" will definitely be missed. It was such a wonderful concoction of humor, drama and legal or political issues. The writing was devine and the acting sublime. Alan Shore (James Spader) and Denny Crane (William Shatner) were perfect together. I will truly miss their "bromance" and the weekly visits to their balcony.
