Pretty pitiful that a POW by the North Vietnamese from October 1967 until 1973 is reduced to saying pretty much anything including utterance in order to secure his own reelection for his fifth term as US senator of Arizona, A war hero years ago…. now a state clown. What a tragedy. He should have quit when he was ahead. There is strong indication from the polls that John McCain will knock J.D. Hayworth off his feet in Arizona’s Republican Senate primaries. Sounds promising for the Democrats!

Smith in Oregon   August 24th, 2010 8:50 pm ET

Why give the Republican Potty such coverage and air time to spew their utterly failed racist, religion thumping bigotry and fear mongering?

Not a single one voices the Republican plan for improving America's economic recovery which is the number one issue nationwide.

Republican lawmakers push to continue Bush jr's tax cuts for the richest which ADDs over 600 Billion to the federal deficit and is not seen as an economic recovery by any sane American voter across America.

Instead the Republican airwaves are filled with 'Hispanic Terror Baby's', 'Is Obama a Muslim', 'Obama's Hawaiian Birth Certificate', 'Privatizing Medicare and Social Security', 'Forcing the unemployed to undergo drug testing', 'Placing food stamp recipients into re-education camps in unused American Prisons' and 'Repealing the 14th. Amendment'

Why would CNN continue to fall into such psycho babble containing utter fiction and utterly useless for American voters determining which candidates are going to help America prosper?

Only the Democratic party has a working economic recovery plan and is implementing it despite the continued obstruction, blocks and filibustering by the Republican lawmakers and it openly telling American voters precisely how that plan works and what those plans consist of.

Dodie   August 24th, 2010 8:57 pm ET

I am curious to know why there has been no news about the landslides and floods which have killed1,500 people and leaving over 300,000 people homeless with countless thousands missing in China.

Smith in Oregon   August 24th, 2010 9:03 pm ET

The often bitter and grumpy Republican US Senator John McCain's sole solution for America's large lapse in Health Care was to fully privatize Medicare and issue worthless 5,000 dollar health vouchers to families.

Historical facts show that family's routinely go thru more than 5,000 dollars worth of health insurance in a year. Historical facts show that such worthless 'vouchers' soon dry up and after one or two years are no longer issued AT ALL, meaning ZERO, ZIP you are on your own.

When asked about withdrawing US Military Combat troops out of Iraq, Republican US Senator John McCain stated 'He would keep them there for the next 100 Years' and with the outrage generated he backtracked to a mere 50 years!

President Obama has called upon far more special forces operations against terrorists in the Middle East and around the world in 2 years than the entire 8 Years by the allegedly corrupt Republican Bush-Cheney administration.

President Obama has deported far more illegal immigrants in 2 years than the allegedly corrupt Republican Bush-Cheney administration during their entire 8 years in the White House.

Larry King, Ask Republican US Senator John McCain if he supports keeping the Bush jr. tax cuts for the ultra-rich Americans AND specifically why when that means adding over 600 Billion dollars PER YEAR to the Federal Deficit.

Michael Armstrong Sr.   August 24th, 2010 9:04 pm ET

I would rather that John Mc Cane keep his seat what happens if we loose our true meanings as Americans .

marge holt in Charleston, SC   August 24th, 2010 9:13 pm ET

Please tell Gov Crist this family thanks him for his assistance in cutting through red tape to help our sister facing life crisis! Gov, thank you again for all the support you gave and for having such a fantastic staff of employees who have knowledge, compassion and a willingness to help when all seems lost.

Dodie   August 24th, 2010 9:13 pm ET

Maybe its time for fresh blood in the Arizona state senate

Michael Armstrong Sr.   August 24th, 2010 9:18 pm ET

I hate to see Charly Rangel or Mc Cane go both are hero's and America will be loosing legend's that inspires others to try harder to be perfect people and people of this sort is what keeps the balance of freedom and liberty and justice for all Americans .

Dodie   August 24th, 2010 9:24 pm ET

John McCain lost what ever perfection he had as a war hero years ago He has been passed up by history.

Michael Armstrong Sr.   August 24th, 2010 9:35 pm ET

Maybe sometimes we should not go to war but instead strike back with an impressive butt kick with air strikes .

Wanda Valdes   August 24th, 2010 9:36 pm ET

I cant belive that Alex Sink choose Ron Smith to run with her, Alex seems like a wonderful person. My opinion is Ron smith is a political dog. He used my husbands murdewr case to win attention to run for Senate in 1999. My husband was murdered in 1999 by Florida correctional guards who beat him to death. Ron took the case to try the guards. As soon as he got enough attention , he dropped the case to run for Senate. My victim advo0ocate told me that when Ron heard I would go to the trial he was cussing and running around the room, He never one time called me or anyone in the Valdes family. I feel he is using Alex sink to win a political seat. Florida needs new people in office no more of the old boy politics. Plus he was friends with James Crosby our x Sec,of Prisons who is now in prisons in Florida. Im considering becoming a independant. Charlie Christ has been a great Govenor. So was Lawton Chiles. Wanda Valdes

Michael Armstrong Sr.   August 24th, 2010 9:42 pm ET

@ Dodie Fresh blood may be better then first blood 9-11 .

Idzan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia   August 24th, 2010 9:42 pm ET

You mean to say America is still not tired of John McCain and Sarah Palin.
It's really pathetic when you are the nation with the most exemplary talent in all fields especially politics.

Bev Nagore   August 24th, 2010 9:45 pm ET

Please tell your guests (Ben Stein?) to stop referring to Barack Obama as Mr. Obama. It is President Obama.

mary in toronto   August 24th, 2010 9:45 pm ET

How can Ben Stein say he's an economist when he know the Bush tax cuts help only the rich and are a parasite on the the American middle class. The tax cuts don't trickle down but have inflated the national debt hugely. This is one reason of many I don't trust Republicans

chaney. La   August 24th, 2010 9:47 pm ET

Didnt Rick Scott get into some trouble with his HC company?
Ari Fleischer can sit there with a straight face and talk the same drivel.
I like Ben but he is wrong this is a constitutional issue, these people own the property.. they can build a Mosque...... the Republicans have been continuously fueling the Muslim issue, Pam Geller, Fox, our brave!!!!! Republican members of Congress....and they are milking this issue for potential votes.....

gitel   August 24th, 2010 9:48 pm ET

Let Congresswoman Debbie W. Schultz that I live in her district. I have been a democrat since I could vote and supported her and the president since they went into politics, but unfortunately they have done nothing to help the consumers and middle class.. I thought young people would bring new ideas to Congress and the Presidency.. how wrong I was. The democrats did not stand up for the families who lost their homes in foreclosure, did not stand up against wall street and the banking interests, finally got out of Iraq to get totally into Afghanistan, no new ideas about opening up communication and travel to Cuba and passed a watered down health bill. No reason to vote in the coming election

Michael Armstrong Sr.   August 24th, 2010 9:50 pm ET

This is a battle for constitutional rights and the morale's that equals to them the Mosque has been voted out by the morale's and were paying an Iman to cause national unrest .

Darla Kickbush   August 24th, 2010 9:50 pm ET

John Q Citizen is sick and tired of the goings on in Washington. Who does that lady think she is. She had better get to real folks in the trenches and ask them what they think. We are scared to death of health care. We are tired of all the money being spent when it isn't going to help. We are sick and tired of the national debt going higher and higher. We are sick of the Chicago Machine being use in Washington DC. Her idealism isn't going over well. She had better get a real job

Cathy   August 24th, 2010 9:53 pm ET

It's great to see Ari. He handles the situation in such a professional manner. Keep up the good work, Ari. A fan from Greenfield.

David   August 24th, 2010 9:56 pm ET

Larry, as a native New Yorker, please tell Mr Fleshier and his fellow republicans to stop using the mosque as a political way to gain points. The mosque seems to be more of an
Issue to people outside of the city, than those in the city, this is diverse town every where you go in this city you find many different houses of worship, it's not that big of an issue to native New Yorkers.

Michael Armstrong Sr.   August 24th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

Why did every thing go to hell after Nancy and gang took over .

joseelr   August 24th, 2010 10:03 pm ET

I think Senator Wasserman – Schultz (apologies if I did not spell name properly) is in la-la land....what innovative economic policies?

Cathy   August 24th, 2010 10:06 pm ET

I wish the two women would stop shaking their head and interjecting comments when others are talking.

I have no problem with President Clinton but the Democrats really should give full disclosure when they talk about job creation by him. Do they think we have not heard of the dot com bubble. The dot coms created many, many jobs. Those jobs certainly helped tax revenues. The dot coms created a lot of excitement in the stock market, thus stocks overall did very well which created a lot of tax revenues in the way of dividends. But do they think we don't know what happened to the dot coms and others by the end of President Clinton's last year, 2000. Of course, then, that resulted in job losses for the next administration.

Bruno   August 24th, 2010 10:07 pm ET

It is quite simple to solve the economy- you have to start with the housing crisis and then consumer confidence will kick in. Why is nothing being done about the housing crisis? The modification plan is a complete failure. Why not pro rate the houses based on tax appraisals and automatically modify mtgs at 25-30-40 year amortization at today's rates and force this policy down the throats of the banks. They got a bail out why should not americans get one too.

Florida Voter   August 24th, 2010 10:40 pm ET

So Larry King gives free air time to Charlie Crist, who uses it for pr. Not exactly objective political reporting.

Someone should ask what Charlies Crist has to say about revenue staff, he's appointed and approved, who have published an agency statement undermining years of administrative rule making during which a document, approved by Crist as Attorney General, was entered into the Florida Administrative Code – and would protect all taxpayers if enforced.

BUT, rather than enforce, agency attorneys are creating barriers – as if they are telling the Governor that he and all elected members of the Florida cabinet are nothing more than pawns, and they are running the state.

So where is Charlie Crist when it comes to governing? And why is Larry King pandering to his run for US Senate when he's not doing the job as governor? Unless you think being governor is to do the bidding of bureaucrats.

Smith in Oregon   August 24th, 2010 10:50 pm ET

And while the Faux Network continues to spew Islamaphobia comparing a Muslim community center in a old run down building two city blocks from where the NYC Trade Towers stood, next to a Burger King and Strip Bar as a 'Mosque' and directly implying the Iman who is pursuing the Muslim community center is getting his funding from oversea's terrorist's, TODAY was discovered by a fact checking group to be the outright King of Hypocrisy.

The Very Same Saudi Investor that Faux Network was implying is a Islamic terrorist IS THE LARGEST MINORITY OWNER of none other than the Faux Network's public stock! YES, the same Saudi Investor OWNS THEM!

Tip to Faux Network News, when you whip up entire Fiction and portray that as news worthy material on your network, Check the Facts first, they really bump into your fictional Islamaphobic Campaign you are waging.

Smith in Oregon   August 24th, 2010 11:43 pm ET

US Senator John McCain, do you think Republican Big Oil donor Koch Inc. should label the millions of gallons of Formaldehyde, a well known carcinogen as 'Carcinogenic' which it appears that Big Oil's Koch Inc. produces in getting rid of toxic and poisonous petrol-chemical waste?

If not then give us a extended qualified answer as to why.

Smith in Oregon   August 24th, 2010 11:49 pm ET

Tonight investigative reporters traced the main funding of The Tea Party back to none other than Big Oil corporations (The Koch brothers!) seeking fewer safety regulations and lower tax's while retaining multi-Billion dollar American taxpayer funded subsidy's.

Same as the Republican Party, such a surprise!

Steve in CA   August 25th, 2010 12:46 am ET

Ben Stein is full of it. It was, after all, the Republicans that eviscerated the health care reforms. Give all the benefits to the big insurance companies and leave the consumer hung out to dry. NO WONDER 60% of the public doesn't support it.

Go Bulls!   August 25th, 2010 1:05 am ET

Hey Larry! I think you told Crist that if theres a 3 way debate you would be there. Well... On October 24th I'm sure the students at the University of South Florida and the people of the Tampa Bay area would love to see you.

forest rogers   August 25th, 2010 1:10 am ET

the president should of gave the money to the people instead giving to the banks cause all they are doing what they do screw the american people ben stien sucks

Dr P   August 25th, 2010 1:38 am ET

Larry: The more I hear these republicans, mostly old, self-serving white men – who helped screw this great country because of their greed, talk about what they are going to do to make it better for us, the American public, the more I feel like throwing up, on them! THEY THINK WE ARE STUPID, MINDLESS, FORGETFUL IDIOTS, WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING BRAIN! Just TWO (2) short years ago, not 4 years, these slimmy, lying, characters left office leaving this Country with several 'BIG STICKS' up our AZZ that they now want to blame President Obama for creating.Try War, Tax Cuts for the Wealthy, Wall Street/Business/Industry/Housing Melt-down, unemployment and sky-high joblessness, I could go on, but no need! The American people must open their eyes, THINK, re-read the FACTS on their eight (8) years of self-serving government – 'What did they do for YOU', we know what they did for Cheney's old company (and they rewarded him by moving their company headquarters to Dubai. WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE MUST STEP UP, SPEAK OUT, and SHOW these SLICK BSers the way back to their cages. I t is also my belief that the ANTI-OBAMA discussions/polls are all based on the fact that he is seen as a BLACK MAN! A SMART BLACK MAN and not his many great accomplishments in 2 short years! They also forgot that he happens to have been birthed by a WHITE MOTHER and raised by two wonderful, insightful 'white' GRANDPARENTS! I hope Mr. Obama and the Democrats realize it is possible to accomplish MORE great work in one term of four years that some of our Presidents have come close to achieving in their two-terms in office.

Cajazz76:24:8   August 25th, 2010 2:36 am ET

Ain't it a Shame McCain?..Congratulations to John McCain..you will be selected as the LESSOR OF TWO EVILS. Please tell the citizen's of the USA why you sold your soul out to the Republican Party of 'NO' to advance your political career. While an active participant in the "SOUTHEAST ASIAN WAR GAMES" I wore A COPPER BRACELET, your POW/MIA bracelet, and even prayed for your safety and release. I have since melted it to make a counterfeit coin..You have become a FAKE McCAIN..I am sorry your father's legacy is tainted by your proclivity..Your father was CNO, Chief of Naval Operations..WESTPAC, for a long time, while you were being held as a POW. Nice way to honor his commitment and his staunch support for a war he knew was immoral and unjust, yet he withstood his own personal feelings and even attempted to rescue you, at the cost of more American lives . He would be so distraught you became what I wore on my feet when my flight boots became the perfect environment for JUNGLE ROT..FLIP-FLOPS. Thanks John, for the release of the tears I have been withholding for so damn long...they are tears of irony and wasted they are..on my stupidity for believing in the sanity of your persona..Now your the IMMORTAL INSANE McCain...Live on John, history will dissolve your HYPOCRISY...before it too fades..fades..fades away...caj

Serge   August 25th, 2010 6:04 am ET

Good OLD Ben Stein. Him again... calling the President Mr. (!) Obama. I sincerely would hope he would keep his disrespectful unqualified mouth shut at last. I find it just incredible that a majority of our citizens would follow again the very same people, responsible for the biggest mess this country has seen since ww II, not even 2 years after having got rid of em.. Stupidity seems to be hype these days.

Ted   August 25th, 2010 7:39 am ET

Congratulations to President Obama for pulling out the last 50,000 combat troops from Iraq!
The question is: what are those other 50,000 soldiers left in there, boy scouts?? They are in the Army, they wear a uniform, so we can presume that they also know how to fight in case it becomes necessary, so they are also combat troops.

We pull out 50,000 soldiers, employed by the DoD, we send in 40,000 armed civilian rambos, paid by the State Department, and in both cases paid by the taypayers.
Since those rambos are much higher paid than our soldiers, there is absolutely no savings in the exchange, it is just pulling wool over our collective eyes!!!

The democrats took over the congress in 2006 with promises to stop the war. Instead they just approved Bush´s surge and other increases, contrary to their original promises.
During the past 19 months democrats controlled both houses and the WH and had the chance to do a lot of changes.
Instead they were bickering and fighting eachother, each cooking his/her own soup, doing very little of those many promises.

The people of this country just have enough of all political parties and politicians and coming november watch out democrats, you may lose your chance to go down in history. The change will not bring anything better, as matter it may become worse, however the name of the game is:
THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!

Ted   August 25th, 2010 7:50 am ET

I keep watching Ben Stein on LKL since years and the lot of BS he voices during those shows. What is his qualification, being jewish?
The same goes for Mr. Fleischman, Dr Laura, Dr Pinsky and all legal experts on that show.

IKHAN   August 25th, 2010 12:23 pm ET

Hi Rick,
Hi folks,

this bigot McCain bought his win by spending 20 million dollars & counting on his campaign. It would not be hard to figure where that money came from – the special interests which the Republicans have always coddling. Long live the rule of Corporations & down with the people!
That the likes of Sarah Palins, the Tea Partiers & such are at the back of these fools speaks a lot for where this country is going.

Rose   August 25th, 2010 1:38 pm ET

Ron Paul may be the only Republican I agree with on this point. He boldly stated on CNN that the New York mosque hysteria is indeed a phobia against a specific religion. He also said (what I have always noted) – the negative role of US foreign policy as a precusor to the 9/11 attacks.

He correctly identified that Neo-Cons were flaming this sentiment and painting an entire religion with one brush. This opposes the very nature of American ideals and principles.

Dr. Paul stated the ignorance of many Americans re: the negative and destructive outcome of our foreign policy – especially as it affects the Muslim world – which we have undoubtly exploited and oppressed in past decades.

Case in Point:
Former US Secretary of State, Madeline Albright was asked whether the OVER HALF A MILLION CHILDREN KILLED in IRAQ by the US promoted sanctions were "worth it."

Her response: "Yes, I think it’s WORTH IT". (60 Minutes interview 1996). Imagine the magnitude of that life-cheapening answer and it's effect on the Muslim population. This was pre-9/11.

How quickly we forget our role in the killing of innocents to fulfill our agenda, yet the extreme reactions of the protests to the N.Y. mosque compounds the tragedy of lives lost in 9/11, by further eroding our sense of democracy and freedom. Thank you Dr. Paul.

Cathy   August 25th, 2010 1:54 pm ET

@Ted,
You might consider doing some research before posting. Ben Stein is extremely qualified; check Widipedia to conform. Also, those on the left who seem to want to criticize him should be reminded that in 1974 President Nixon submitted a comprehensive healthcare bill to Congress that probably was more comprehensive than President Obama's bill. Ben Stein wrote the introduction to Congress for that bill. Again, he's more than qualified for last night's panel and any panel. Now the two women on there last night that haven't even learned as politicians not to shake their head or roll their eyes when others are providing their point of view; well, they're another story.

Cajazz76:24:8   August 25th, 2010 10:28 pm ET

Hello Ted, your comments, by intention, always present the realities to rile the sensibilities of those who need to be informed. One addendum to you contributions is the fact that the country of Iraq is still without a viable form of government. There is concerted efforts underway, for many months now, to make them the Islamic State of Iraq..a situation that will not only push them into a an un-civil war, but upset the balance of efforts of the moderate Muslim countries in the entire region of the Middle East...To the millions of good Muslims of the world and the Middle East ....Caj

Ted   August 26th, 2010 9:47 am ET

@ Cathie

Thanks for bringing me up on the high qualities and qualifications of Ben Stein, now if we could just teach him not to stutter and speak clearly so we can understand what he says.

He being in Washington with Nixon is nothing to brag about, besides that city is full of people with a loud mouth, but little brain, the typical requirement to be a politician for a long time.
That introduction you mention was probably written by someone in Ben´s office and he just collected the credit for it!!!

I agree with you, those two women did not eat intelligence with a spoon, but I can apply the same credit to most of our congresspersons, left, or right, or I don´t know!
Now, I would not mind if they shakes their heads, wring their hands or pick their noses, (but only their own!!), if something intelligent would come out from that cavity between the lower and the upper lips.
What comes is usually disappointing and have no heads or tails.

Cathie, have a great day and shalom to you, may Jewa bless you with a moshee next door!

IKHAN   August 26th, 2010 6:05 pm ET

Hi Larry
@Ted @Cajazz@Rose
pertinent points made.
We Americans have deliberately & insidiously been made to push aside the core causes lying at the root of our troubles & not to give them a thought. "If we start thinking about the root causes it will dent our will" or words to this effect , I remember were the standard response of the Bush admn.
How could we wage wars in foreign lands if the public starts wondering about the root causes.
There has been an alarming incident in New York city.A cab driver stabbed because he is a Muslim. Now I have often said on these blogs that we are witnessing shades of Fascism in rhetoric & propaganda spewed forth by those forces of hate, bigotry & intolerance directing their venom against one religion.

These protest rallies against the proposed Islamic Community center in lower Manhattan are feeding this sentiment & something ugly like this had to happen.
I just hope this would be the only incident.

Americans & especially New Yorkers have to t come together to stand up against these forces of hate & fear mongers who are taking racism a step further- religious persecution.
Or I'm afraid one of the most diverse & greatest cities in the world – New York would become a symbol of hate & intolerance.
The Statue of Liberty would then be just a mockery.

Cathy   August 26th, 2010 9:57 pm ET

@Ted,
I find Ben Stein to be sharp as an economist. As for what he wrote or didn't write for Nixon, who knows. Perhaps the bigger point is that President Nixon did submit a major healthcare bill. But like President Clinton, he was trampled down by something that by today's standards (no doubt a bad choice of words; maybe lack thereof) wouldn't amount to much.
The never-to-be-answered question is what might healthcare look like today had he not been crippled by his own insecurities and was able to get the bill passed. It's quite possible it would look much better and quite likely would not be the financial drain that it is now. Oh well, late is better than never.

Ted   August 27th, 2010 8:43 am ET

@ Cathie

I took your advice and looked up Ben Stein in Wikipedia, as I never refuse to learn something new.
He has an impressive biography, I wonder how good is he in each of those professions? He certainly did not impress me with his idea on economics.
As far as getting his job with Nixon: his father war working for the President and that just may had to do with it.

He is certainly in love with himself, there are hundreds of photos of him, although we cannot say he is an Adonis or Paris.
Heck, we all have different tastes, so I wish you good luck with that guy.

Ted   August 27th, 2010 8:54 am ET

@ cajazz

Remember SS Liberty? Admiral McCain, father of our own turncoat John McCain, was responsible for the coverup on that attack by our best loved friends and true allies, the israelis.
The question is: how much 38 dead sailors are worth?
