Prophet Ha-Shem   August 19th, 2010 12:42 pm ET

When our troops come home from Iraq, a mosque near Ground Zero would be a slap in the face.

Prophet Ha-Shem   August 19th, 2010 1:14 pm ET

The US Soldier has gave all for the attacks on 911, just to return home to see what's going on.
1,2,3,4! What the hell were we fighting for?We are the 1 Nation Under God

Gerald Jolly   August 19th, 2010 1:18 pm ET

There is an old proverb that tells us.

TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE A RIGHT.

EXPROPRIATE THE LAND AND CALL IT A DAY

Prophet Ha-Shem   August 19th, 2010 1:18 pm ET

1 NATION, not 2

IKHAN   August 19th, 2010 1:57 pm ET

Hi Larry,
Good morning folks.

Muslims died in that 9/11 attack too & tens upon tens were killed in Iraq invasion.

If the Islamic Community center is prohibited, that would be slap in the face of our returning troop who were sent to Iraq in the name of Liberation & Freedom.
The hate & fear mongers, the fanatics are trying to take this country back to the days of second class citizenry & opening the doors for Fascism.
With the current atmosphere of racism being promoted by the same forces we'll also see religious persecution creeping into our society.
God save us & Bless this country of liberty & freedom.

Ignorance is NOT Bliss   August 19th, 2010 2:12 pm ET

Knowledge is Power. Know the ins and outs of everything–learn it, live it, breath it, before you put ur ignorant self centered remarks out for anyone.

j   August 19th, 2010 2:13 pm ET

If we dont allow this mosque. what was the point of the soldiers fighting in iraq

HuH   August 19th, 2010 2:45 pm ET

Muslin terrorist did bomb the world tade center in '93 not christian terrorist. And we did blame christian terrorist for the Okalahoma City bombing in '95

James   August 19th, 2010 2:52 pm ET

Why would anyone blame Christians for the first world trade attack, as Simmons states? It was a muslim who attacked the first time as well!

Richard Freethinker   August 19th, 2010 2:59 pm ET

People keep bringing up the families, as if perhaps those of us taking the moral and legal side have forgotten them. I'm not one, but it was close. My uncle was working in Building 4. The second plane flew over my aunt's head as she went from their apartment in Battery Park to get their car in the parking garage of Building 2.

We are all family.  Let's let our fellow Americans build their community center in peace.

Richard Freethinker   August 19th, 2010 3:07 pm ET

If the troops returning are among those trying to hide their understandable yet misplaced hatred and vengefulness behind simplistic notions of respect and sensitivity then it might seem a slap in the face. Once their recovery is complete they will be proud to see such a real life example of the freedom they worked so hard to protect.

carmen   August 19th, 2010 3:08 pm ET

Yeah he messed up the anology. He meant OK city bombing. But even there the anology still falls apart. The gentleman there had to ties to anything, or any church or organization like the 9/11 bombers and the 1993 bombers.

John Rezak   August 19th, 2010 3:18 pm ET

The Mosque is being used right now. What is the sensitivity exactly about ? How is this mosque related to Ground Zero or 9/11 ? Seeing a Mosque built by American Muslims who had nothing to do with 9/11 reopens wounds ? Will seeing an American Muslim walk by, who had nothing to do with 9/11 reopen wounds ?
Besides, didn't the 9/11 terror group state US troops in Saudi Arabia, then sanctions on Iraq and Palestinian occupation as their reasoning for 9/11 ? Thus making it political rather than religious ?

Stan Engleton   August 19th, 2010 3:21 pm ET

Did the Iraqis have any say about the US Embassy in Baghdad ?
The invasion of Iraq resulted in the deaths of nearly 100,000 Iraqis. And the US has built an Embassy, the size of the Vatican, in the heart of Baghdad. Isn't that more of a symbol of domination ? Rather than an Islamic cultural center in Manhattan ? Anyone asked the millions of Iraqi refugees what they thought about the US Embassy in Baghdad ?

IKHAN   August 19th, 2010 4:02 pm ET

Hi Larry,
there are & there will be fanatics in any religion.
And there always would be atrocities committed by people adhering to one faith or another. Be it Hitler, Mussolini, Saddam Hussain, Osama Bin Laden, Mussolini, the Hiroshima /Nagasaki bombings, world war 11, Vietnam,Korea, Bosnia.
Be it the Fort Hood massacre or the 'Christioan Soldiers' planning to kill fellow Americans & use weapons of mass destruction or the Time Square would be bomber, or Hindu terrorists on a rampage against Christians in Eastern India.

We do not know that much about 9/11 bombers the alleged 'hi jackers', some of who were found living in other countries after the horror.
Point is that we cannot allow America considered a beacon of Liberty & Freedom to go back to the days of second class citizenry. We cannot allow a time of religious persecution, racism & fascist forces to creep into this great society of all races & faiths.

Dodie   August 19th, 2010 4:30 pm ET

@ IKHAN

You are as always, right on target. We are moving backward, not forward in developing a second class of citizens due to hate and fear. Fascism is right down the road. I wonder what will be next.......

Possibly burning women as witches at the stake. Oh yes, Christians have a horrendous violent history.

Dodie   August 19th, 2010 4:32 pm ET

@Ted August 19th, 2010 1:22 pm ET

"This is another day when I am ashamed for my country! We preach democracy, but behave like the worst bigots in the world."

I completely agree and feel the exact same way. We are turning back into the "Ugly American"

Smith in Oregon   August 19th, 2010 5:22 pm ET

Why doesn't CNN take a film crew into The Dakota Roadhouse next door to the 'proposed' Muslim Community Center some 2 blocks away from where the twin towers once stood? Does The Dakota Roadhouse meet Murdock's scratch and sniff standards for purity and sacred sites?

There are at least one 'Christian' chruch on the ground zero site which existed before those towers dropped. Ok for a Christian church but not ok for a Muslim Community center? Muslim workers died in the twin towers also didn't they?

Oh I get it, Murdock is simply trying to get the American public to tie Black President Obama to the Muslim religion. How insecure and paranoid of you Mr. Murdock.

Gerald Jolly   August 19th, 2010 5:52 pm ET

Just who is Russel Simmons??

Does he have a degree in Political Science??

Is he a reformed Muslim??

Is he the front man for President Obama??

Is he a contractor from New York??

Should I be impressed by his credentials??

PLEASE ELABORATE!!!

Ed Unger   August 19th, 2010 6:46 pm ET

It's true that in North America we have freedom of religion and religious expression. This comes with lots of freedoms, but should also come with responsibility. But show me one country where the predominent religion is Muslim where they will allow a Christian church to be built.

How would Muslims handle an application to build a Christian church in Meca??????

There is more to this controversy than just "Freedom of Religious expression" Somebody wants to make a point!

Sebastian   August 19th, 2010 9:28 pm ET

Mosque will not be less than a terriorist center. Look all over the world where do terriorist hide when they are in trouble. Answer is in the Islamic centers, mosques and muslims religious places. NO TO THE MOSQUE NEAR GROUND ZERO

Diane   August 19th, 2010 9:37 pm ET

I listened to the entire radio conversation between Dr. Laura and "Jade."
Once again...Dr. Laura is correct. Jade is too sensitive to the N word.
Sorry Jade but that ship has sailed as younger Americans...both black
and white DO use the N word as an endearment. It's ridiculous. Jade
has no business being upset with her husband or his friends if she isn't upset with "anyone" who uses that word...not just says the word as Dr. Laura did...but USE the word. I don't think Jade should be on the air. She needs to grow up and stand up for herself. Jade wouldn't accept the apology from Dr. Laura...an apology that I would not have offered her.
What does that tell you about her.

Smith in Oregon   August 20th, 2010 1:10 am ET

The Republican Potty is a utterly bankrupt and failed political party since the utter failure of the Bush-Cheney administration.

America found that Republican Ronald Reagan's 'Trickle Down' economic strategy's failed on Main Street American's as their jobs were outsourced and rich corporate CEO's got a whole lot richer. Domestic spending and critical services in city's across America were gutted, police, fire, emergency services, medical services, teachers, library funding all gutted resulting in massive lay-offs.

America found that Republican Bush-Cheney's 'War Time' economic strategy's failed. Again American defense corporations and Oil corporations got richer while domestic spending and critical services, medical services, teachers and library funding all were gutted.

America found that Republican Bush-Cheney's 'Tax Cut's offset Deficit's economic strategy's failed. Instead that directly led to the largest federal deficit ever passed to a incoming American President in America's entire history.

Each Republican economy strategy has proven to utterly fail and all that the Republican's have to offer is 'tax cuts' offset federal deficits and Mitt Romney's tired old 'trickle down' economics which were tired and both FAILED miserably.

Instead of Republican's telling America they have no working plan to improve America's Economy, they are pushing 'No Mosque' and 'No Terror Baby's' although a Muslim Community Center would be in a run-down building some 2 city blocks from where the trade towers stood next door is a strip bar. A prayer room hardly defines a community center as a 'mosque'.

Don't elect Republican's because of 'terror baby's'. There are no Hispanic terror baby's, just another attempt by Murdock, McConnell and Boehner to dodge real issues impacting America.

Republicans were all against the Obama Administration for loaning GM enough money to survive without liquidating a major automaker who employees thousands of Americans. GM survived entirely due to the Democratic administration and is on line to pay that taxpayer loan back with interest for a PROFIT, plus Obama saved those workers jobs. Under McCain-Palin GM would be history, GONE.

Nana Brown   August 20th, 2010 1:59 am ET

Why not build a mosque ? we all know that Muslims had nothing to with the controlled demolition of WCT 1,2 & 7 this is a fact but we do know millions of Innocent Muslims have been killed by Bush looking for Bin Laden and WMD that was never found. Get a life and get your facts right .Free Media please .

Let us respect our troop an tell them the TRUTH we sent them to fight a war based on LIES.

mike gossett   August 20th, 2010 3:30 am ET

what a fool! once again another liberal who does not let facts get in the way of thier outrageous and out of touch comments! MUSLIMS bombed the WTC in 1993 too idiot. we true americans are sick of this political correctness BS. were suppossed to respect other cultures, but they dont have to respect ours?? REALLY? the silent majority is about to get in the faces of all this un-american loons. GET READY you corrupt, godless socialist morons!

Sand jusive   August 20th, 2010 8:55 am ET

The amarican performance have nothing to do with religions it is the advantage of political act

Ted   August 20th, 2010 9:15 am ET

@ Dodie

Thanks for your comment on my blog, however as you can see, the bigot who is acting like God on LKL already removed it!!

It seems only ignorant massages are welcome, except a few who use their heads, and whatever I write, regardless how mild and correct it may be, it will be deleted.
Someone should inform LKL that we are in the USA, we have the freedom of speech and only obscene text should be deleted.

Billy Van Vlake   August 20th, 2010 10:55 am ET

I keep hearing all these Muslim leaders talk about being a peaceful people. I could be wrong but I believe in their so called holy book the Koran it says death to the infidels. In case you didn't know anybody who is not a Muslim is an infidel. Does that sound like a peaceful people to you?

Angi cronen   August 20th, 2010 11:51 am ET

Why? Why? Why woul anyone listen to this plainly ignorant man?! My God...
Russell, here is some advice, better to be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Larry, your guest are a reflection of the viability of your show. I think I know why your retiring.

IKHAN   August 20th, 2010 1:12 pm ET

Hi larry,
Good morning folks.
@Dodie
thanks & take care. @Ted & @Smith in Oregon. Wish fellow bloggers take heed from your thought provoking comments.

First the Birthers, then those championing the right of whites only to occupy White House , now those stoking the fires of religious hatred, feeding bits of their conscience to sharks on a hunt for President Obama's ouster. A trail of lies, fabrication laid down by propaganda leading to his 'faith'.
Americans, do you see a pattern here from these forces who became active right after his election??

LE   August 20th, 2010 1:35 pm ET

Are we going to stop accepting oil from Saudi Arabia, I think not.

gerry barnes   August 20th, 2010 5:03 pm ET

This is an accurate picture of every Friday afternoon in several
locations throughout NYC where there are mosques with a large
number of Muslims that cannot fit into the mosque – They fill the
surrounding streets, facing east for a couple of hours between
about 2 & 4 p.m. – Besides this one at 42nd St & Madison Ave,
there is another, even larger group, at 94th St & 3rd Ave, etc.,
etc. – Also, I presume, you are aware of the dispute over building
another "high rise" Mosque a few blocks from "ground zero" –
With regard to that one, the "Imam" refuses to disclose where the
$110 million dollars to build it is coming from and there is a lawsuit
filed to force disclosure of that information – November can't come soon enough

This is in New York City on Madison Avenue, not in
France or the Middle East or Yemen or Kenya.

Is there a message here???? Yes, there is, and they are
claiming America for Allah.
If we don't wake up soon, we are going to "politically correct"
ourselves right out of our own country!

gerry barnes   August 20th, 2010 5:06 pm ET

A Christian Nation cannot put up a Christmas scene of the baby Jesus in
a public place, but the Muslims can stop normal traffic every Friday afternoon
by worshiping in the streets.... Something is happening in America that is
reminiscent of what is happening in Europe. This is Political Correctness
gone crazy...

"For evil to flourish, all that is needed is for good
people to do nothing." Edmund Burke

Smith in Oregon   August 20th, 2010 7:01 pm ET

@ IKAN, thank-you for your kind comments. Murdock with Faux entertainment network is a major supplier of non-issues and fictional stories about President Obama in their clear attempt to undermine America's first Black President's legacy in office.

Sadly, a great many of the News Media agency's and newspapers have strong connections to Zionist's representing only the extreme ultra-conservative Israeli party's which are largely condemned by a great many Jewish Americans and Israeli Citizens.

Recently Israel took their armored bulldozers and flatted a old Islamic cemetery in Jerusalem to the utter shock and anger of the Palestinian people who watched in shock as ancient headstones were crushed and smashed by the huge Israeli bulldozers intent on planting illegal Israeli apartments and another illegal settlement on top of that Palestinian land.

Where is the News Media coverage on that outrageous action by Israel? And next month Israel is slated to begin face to face Peace Talks with the Palestinian people? Seems to me that such heartless actions by Israel indicate Israel lacks the courage and honesty to begin the hard work of crafting a lasting Middle East peace treaty while American's continue losing their lives across the Middle East because of that lack.

It's time for American family's to Loudly and Openly demand Israel act with haste and honesty to craft a lasting Middle East treaty between Israel and it's Arabic neighbors saving many additional American lives in the future.

Angela Savage Austin   August 20th, 2010 8:24 pm ET

I wonder if the same people who think that President Obama is the anti-christ are the same people who think he is a muslim...that would explain the motive behind their message of madness...trying to connect some sort of premeditated dots......... I understand what President Obama's message to us all was about re: building the Mosque near ground zero.... even God gave man laws in which to govern his sinful ways and still man falls short. Mankind needs laws to secure the rights of all men...when laws are broken, fear, corruption, greed, and war prevails...haven't we learn anything from our past....Brotherhood is practiced by all Faiths and Love is the greatest gift given to man, yet we worship hate, divison, confusion, greed, lust and false pride. We need our sanity restored before peace can ever be accomplished. When our body is infected with a sore, before healing can be done, the pus and disease must first be removed and the wounds must steadily be cleaned to prevent reinfection...then antibodies are administered to promote the healing process. Our bodies teaches us how to preserve life...even Mother Nature does the same...yet man...blessed with a brain to reason with fails miserably. Its time to break down the walls of fear and hatred and greed and self-righteousness...lets obey God's law first to love our brothers and sisters as we claim to love God and then we will have no problem in obeying the Constitution and our God Given Right to life, prosperity, peace, health and happiness. Lets make this tradegy "THE REASON" to Heal...and Rebuild!

Cindy   August 20th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

@Diane,
I totally agree with your comments. "Jade" used a fake name when she called Dr. L because she wanted her identity to remain private. Now she's out on all the airways with her 15 minutes of fame and probably hoping for a lawsuit. It is really sad that anyone would suggest Dr. L in any way called someone the "n" word.

Cajazz76:24:8   August 20th, 2010 11:41 pm ET

@Cindy
@Diane

I agree with both your comments. You are both genuine and outspoken bigots in cloistered nuns garb packing loaded opinions and drawing down on civility. Take cover America these quackers are a bit ducky in their camouflaged racism and dangerous to differences.

Music Mogul: Bad Idea to Move the Mosque

Larry, I follow CNN, MSMBC, FOXNEWs, etc. I am a junky in watching all videos and interviews about many subjects but now especially the issue of building the Islamic Center/Mosque in the current approved location.

After viewing over 100 clips (retired political junkie) I find the bean counting pro and con to be very racially polarized. African-American journalists, talk show hosts and those African-americans from academia that appear on these shows are overwhelmingly in favor of building the mosque in it current location. Latinos are split except for high profile activist politicians. Whites and Asians are overwhelmingly against it building it at the current location

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the dynamics of these differences. It has nothing to do with the Constitution or legality of the Iman in charge of this Cordoba Initiative to building the Center at this location. We know know from interviews with the muslim developer that the Center will not be primarily used as a local center but a world-wide hq to come and visit. It just so happens that ground zero is only a 500 ft walk from the entrance doors. And by the way, they are not budging.

So why are we so divided on this issue. Let's call it like it is. We, in this country are divided significantly by race and power period. Anything that will stick it to the "man" (white men with power) will certainly garner the support of African-American's even though there were many killed in 911.

So, let's recognize it like it is, the Arab muslims, primarily Saudi Arabia will be state funding (passing funds through some other source) to fund the $100 million project. It will be like the Japanese tourists coming back to Pearl Harbor to visit the Arizona Memorial. Out of the 400 visitors when I was there, at least 2/3rd were Japanese visiting Hawaii from Japan. In the same way, what a great way to kick americans in the teeth so to speak with all the Arab and Persian muslims visiting the center and sitting down for coffee admiring the destruction they caused. This cowardly act, just like Pearl Harbor, was not the mastermind of Al Queda alone. 15 of the 19 perpetrators were Saudi's from good Saudi families. They were educated. They did this in the name of Jihad as part of their fundamentalist Islamic belief and anyone who says differently is kidding themselves.

So, if I were a project designer, constructor and construction worker
I would not take this job. Certainly it will be designed by a foreign design/construct firm but after that, we will see who is going to build it.
