Larry, sad to say, problems in the Gulf hasn't yet begun. There is so much deceit and hate within America and there is so much deceit and hate outside America-and BP does not know if it's coming or going.

John H   July 19th, 2010 8:46 pm ET

I know there will be many who will say don't trust this man as he is too much a part of the Oil Business but I am convinced he is for real and wants to try to help get America off foreign oil once and for all. His idea of having this nation commit to an 8 year program to reduce foreign oil entirely. With a similar commitment by all of us, oil can almost entirely be replaced by cleaner greener sources of energy. Our national fleet of 18 wheelers alone can reduce our dependency on oil entirely and keep us from sending billions of dollars to oil producing states entirely. I don't think many would argue that much of those dollars goes right into the hands of organizations who do not have our best interest in mind. I hope people will give him the benefit of the doubt and get on with this program.

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:03 pm ET

Larry King, ask Mr. T. Boone Pickens why only Honda produces a sedan powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and none of the other automakers?

That seems like a slap in the face of the many American's wanting to switch off Gas and Diesel consumption.

Thanks Larry!

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:06 pm ET

Larry, what is the 1-800 number to call the show?

Carl O. Harris   July 19th, 2010 9:07 pm ET

why don't the pump in the mud now? They did it when it was gushing!!

John D.   July 19th, 2010 9:07 pm ET

I'm glad to see T. Boone Pickens back on the program tonight. I always learn a little more about the situation in the gulf when he is on. Larry, he did not rip BP; he is correct in that he said we should leave them to stop the oil flow and then focus on who was at fault.

Trish   July 19th, 2010 9:10 pm ET

It's one thing to have pilot error and kill 2, 3, 400 people and it's an entirely different thing to put a hole in the earth which could destroy the planet and the entire human race!

nicgaspar   July 19th, 2010 9:10 pm ET

Dear Sir,
I hope the country is listening. I am running my web server on wind generated electricity. It'll all be in your name someday. Thank You. L.N. Gaspar

Adam F   July 19th, 2010 9:10 pm ET

Larry-

Please ask Mr. Pickens his thoughts on "Peak Oil". It's the most pending issue in society right now due to its ramifications yet the general public has no idea what it is. I'm sure Mr. Pickens will have a comment on this.

Hector bendles   July 19th, 2010 9:11 pm ET

i think the end isnot near ,with all that presure building up we are just waiting for another disaster if we dont fixed this problem soon thank you. Hector,MiamiFlorida

William Gillespie   July 19th, 2010 9:13 pm ET

How can one ask such a question when the clean up from BP's disaster will take as much as decades to clean up, not to mention the unimaginable amount of reparation needed to bring back the decimated fishing industry? To say yes would be comparable to reading a book's preface and saying you've just begun reading the last page.

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:14 pm ET

I use to support the use of Natural Gas as a step to Electric Vehicles but with Hydraulic fracturing (informally called "fracing" or "hydrofracing"), but since I found out about it have turned away from that support since it destroys our water sources and our lands! It is a process that results in the creation of fractures in rocks by pumping over 560 different chemicals, materials, heavy metals, and many other substances into our environment in order to get natural gas out of the rocks, but when the rocks are broken it creates a pathway into our drinking water. These are many of the most dangerous substances in the world that they are using to get at that gas underground! They are doing this dangerous Fracking in at least 34 stats and we are losing access to our drinking-water since it can not be cleaned up! Most people do not know that less then 1% of the water on Earth is drinkable, losing that sources will be the death of us all!

joe   July 19th, 2010 9:17 pm ET

Matthew R. Simmons – Chairman Emeritus of Simmons & Company International was on the Dylan Ratigan show on MSNBC on July 15th making some VERY inflammatory claims about a BP cover up, and possible government cover-up of the true scope of the oil disaster.

The concept here for an expose story is simple. He is calling for "the arrest of BP executives", and stating that there is "a hole spewing 120,000 barrels of oil a day where the 1st BOP use to be". This man is not a fringe character and has been on many main stream media shows during the disaster.

Plain and simple he is exposing a massive cover-up by BP, and possibly the government about the real extent of this disaster, or fear mongering to further his/others agenda while calling for the "arrest" of BP executives. The truth is somewhere out there.

Stories and interviews with this man are crucial to the security and psychology of the United States, his claims need to be proven or disproven, are you gonna be the the one to break this story?

WHAT DOEES T BOONE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE MOVIE "GASLAND"

Diane Dagenais Turbide   July 19th, 2010 9:20 pm ET

Good evening Mr. Pickens,

Thank you for your determination and commitments to serve your country as a nation that focuses on developing and investing in the diversity of energies is a nation on its way not just to a recovery but to a new discovery of its true greatness as a people determined to face this new decade with new diverse energies and that includes the people's energy at work in welcoming this new decade. With you, President Obama and his administration and Congress this future can be seen within this decade even if some mistakes and or misunderstandings were made in facing many difficult economic crisis and two wars on top of building a new economic more fair foundation; if we all invest in focusing all our energies fairly we will succeed!!! Thank you for your authenticity in being there for your country as you represent what America can be again when we face without fear what we can do and what we can be for our country!

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:21 pm ET

The mud used as 14.2 lbs per gallon, PSI outpressure 12,000. As per LKL interview tonight with T. Boone Pickens which appears to nearly be identical to what the Cameron Team of experts had previously determined.

So, with the out pressure now at 6,800 PSI, a full 50% is escaping somewhere or the Mercando Oil field suddenly and unlikely dropped a great deal of pressure suddenly.

Thad Allen and BP certainly know the drill pipe is ruptured under the sea floor somewhere as 1.1 Million gallons per day is flowing into a geologic fault which could possibly vent to the surface now or later.

I'm becoming tired of Thad Allen and BP lieing and being less than forthcoming to the American people on this Louisiana BP blown well site developments.

Jane Bowling   July 19th, 2010 9:22 pm ET

What happen the statement we had a oil shortage? Then our gas prices hit the roof then this oil well told us the true. That someone wasn't telling the true

Tom   July 19th, 2010 9:23 pm ET

Q: For T. Boone – Is the "cement" actually concrete? Cement without an aggregate is very weak.

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:23 pm ET

@ MICHAEL

I doubt that he every watched it!

joe   July 19th, 2010 9:24 pm ET

In regards to my comment above, i'm hoping you can ask Mr. Pickens if he knows of Simmon's claims, and ask him to comment please.

Thank you Larry and love the show.

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:24 pm ET

@ John D., thank-you for posting that number. Darn decent of you!

Greg J.   July 19th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

Mr. Pickens champions more dependence on natural gas, but after watching the HBO documentary "Gas Land", the price to the environment may be too high. The hydraulic cracking method used to extract natural gas pumps extremely toxic chemicals into the ground to crack the rock to release the gas. Unfortunately it can crack right into the water table and severely contaminate the water people drink. Is it worth it to trade drinking water for natural gas? I don't think so.

art   July 19th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

If we can save a ton of money converting 18 wheelers to ng, imagine how much more we could save by converting container ships laden with product for Wal-Mart.

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

@ MICHAEL

I doubt that he ever watched it! He wants to sell natural gas so bad you can see it all over is face! He made billions selling oil so now he is now to the next thing, ever if our environment suffer for it!

Marc La habra, Ca   July 19th, 2010 9:26 pm ET

why waste money on developing energy run on fossil fuels?
its all fossil fuel.
1% of the rays the sun shines on us can power new york for a year.
cars can run on electricity...why not ?
they just found a trillion dollars worth of lithium in afganistan.

why cant we put our greed aside and start thinking about population and how much fossil fuel will be needed to support 10 billion ppl
currently we are at 6.5 billion people...and we are having problems.
so why waste time on fossil fuels which is finite.
wheres we can use wind solar thermal energy and more

we as a species must stop our greed and fighting and work together as a global community to better our planet and protect it ...because our earth protects us everyday.

MIKE   July 19th, 2010 9:27 pm ET

When laws are broken and short cuts are taken to save a multi-billion dollar + company any company or individuals – Bankruptcy laws should not be allowed to be used – If in Violation of any law or Policy I'll tell you one as simple as this my cousin got hit and his vehicle was totaled out guess what this guy either filed or was filing Bankruptcy and even though he was breaking the law by not having our states mandatory motor vehicle insurance – he got a get out of jail free card because of Bankruptcy – I don't care how small or big a violation of the law is Federal Bankruptcy laws should not be a net for those that chose to break the laws causing innocent people to be victimized. Do the math on this first Fat Cat Bail out on Wall Street 750 Billion Dollars – estimated population of this country is 3 million people – Okay now we really want to have true stimulus – devide 3 million into 750 bilion Dollars it is around $250,000 for every person in the United States – This would be True Stimulus – People would pay off negative Debts, Diverting Bankruptcy and Home Forclosure, People who are in the streets Hungry and in their homes hungry would have a means to have substantial stable food sources – People would open Buisnesses in our Country opening jobs that will not run to Mexico, Canada, China or any other Country that would have sweat shops for kids and adults for pennies a day if that much – We don't need to borrow from Communist Block Countries – foriegn nations will not have to march on our country it is being sold off to foriegn countries – one piece of American Soil should have never been sold to a foriegn country – Lease it but don't sell it – We've fought to long for the Freedom we have to see it sold off to the highest foriegn bidder. This is not a Socialist Country – God and Competition Built this Country and this is how it needs to remain. This new world order – we don't need other countries to tell us how we can run our country – when we get our heads out of our dairers we can run this Country just Fine – I registered Demoncrat getting ready to be Republican for the first time in my life they seem to be the only ones making any sense now a days.

don fahrney   July 19th, 2010 9:27 pm ET

The fractering of natural gas is one of the most destructive environmental things one can do. He knows this as well, it destroys ground water, poisons the landscapse and you pay a huge price. Has he heard of renewables. Pathetic

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:27 pm ET

Natural Gas is not a step to Electric Vehicles, it is just another way for oil and gas men to destroy our environment again, Hydraulic fracturing (informally called "fracing" or "hydrofracing") us just as bad as drilling for oil!, in many cases it is worse, we are losing our water

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:28 pm ET

Louisiana should be actively encouraged by the other 49 States to plant many large plantations of Sugar Cane and with federal aid formerly Big Oil subsidy's help build several commercial Ethanol Plants to ween themselves entirely off Big Oil and Big Gas in Louisiana in the near future.

President Obama should take every penny the Federal Government gives to Big Oil for subsidy's and give that to creating Ethanol Plants and Bio-Diesel plants across America. Growing the energy keeps it Carbon Neutral instead of spewing unchecked surplus Carbon across the planet.

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:29 pm ET

Larry ask him if he supports Hydraulic fracturing?

Jim White   July 19th, 2010 9:29 pm ET

Why isn't Mr. Pickens fighting to keep the oil being drilled off the coast of the U.S. in the U.S.?

What about all the untapped frozen methan in the ocean. A little hard to get to now but with funding may be able to bring it up in cost effective way. J

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:34 pm ET

Internal Combustion engines are notoriously inefficient even with dual turbo-chargers or a single supercharger for optimal output (13%) while off the shelf electrical motors are 95% efficient in the power in to the power out to the tires on the vehicle.

Norman Cospelich   July 19th, 2010 9:35 pm ET

T. Boone Pickens lauds the abundance of natural gas in the US. Attempts are currently being made in Pennsylvania to extract gas. There have been very serious problems. The extraction process requires large quantities of water, chemicals and destruction of pristine land. Local water tables are becoming poluted to the point where tap water is flamable. Could Mr. Pickens address these serious costs associated with gas extraction?

John D.   July 19th, 2010 9:36 pm ET

Richard Kankakee, IL--
False.

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:36 pm ET

BP, gave direct support to a Terrorist Nation Libia, and a terrorist, by help that guy go back to Libia, and now our government is supporting and working with a supporter of terrorist by working with BP who helped a terrorist!

BP should be ran pout of our country, for there action in helping a conformed terrorist who was in prison, and is now sitting back drinking Crystal in Libia laughing at us all!!

mary in toronto   July 19th, 2010 9:36 pm ET

Larry i am dismayed that T Boone buys stocks in BP. Is that all he knows. Does he diversify with stocks in clean energy which promotes better security for American troops? To imply this was the engineers fault rather than their BPs is a bald faced lie as we now know they had no plan for a catastrophy and are incapable of telling the truth to the public.

Carl Brandon   July 19th, 2010 9:36 pm ET

To your quote from Milton Berle "retire to what" from a person who has worked most of his life and just made a living...I am looking forward to retirement and doing what I could not do most of my working life. Most of us are not rich.

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:38 pm ET

Shelley Welsh, 100hp (horse power) electric motors require a great deal of electrical energy, a typical large solar panel couldn't power it for more than a very short period if at all, but it could eventually top off a bank of batterys to store enough chemically to power that electric motor.

What is needed is to completely do away with needing batterys for a all electric vehicle and use a bank of super capacitors which would last as long as the vehicle without replacement, charge far faster than a typical bank of batters and have a extremely long lifespan. Win-Win.

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:39 pm ET

art   July 19th, 2010 9:40 pm ET

Yeah, bio-diesel makes more sense for the truckers. I know Willie Nelson burns it in his tour bus when he's on the road, again.

It certainly would create a lot of jobs in this country. We have an ethanol plant about 20 miles from here, but they seem to convert mostly corn to make fuel. I know one of the So. American countries (Brazil?) averted a huge financial crisis by growing and converting sugar cane for fuel. But it would be the biggest brawl ever here in this country to go that route...

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:42 pm ET

@ Richard, Kankakee, IL., if you carefully check it was the utterly depraved and corrupt Republican administration of Bush-Cheney which deliberately warmed US relations with Libya and Dick Cheney met BP CEO behind closed doors with other Big Oil CEO's which directly led to Libya offering BP it's extremely rich Oil field leases. The person to blame Richard, Kankakee, IL. is Dick Cheney. The question is what did Dick Cheney get in return? He also gave BP the world's largest fuel contract (US Military fuel world-wide) to a foreign nation's Big Oil corporation! Smells like heavy corruption to me!

Richard, Kankakee, IL.   July 19th, 2010 9:43 pm ET

@ Smith in Oregon

We should use solar wind-turbines, wave and tidal to produce hydrogen gas, for the times when the sun is not up, or the wind does not blow, we have had the technology for over 30 years to do this, but the oil and natural gas lobbies have swindle the American people over those 30 years. And now China is taking our hard work and putting it to use to free themselves from Middle East oil, y0u have to ask the question what the heck are we doing here in the U.S.

Matt Schierer   July 19th, 2010 9:45 pm ET

Dear Larry,
Upon hearing the discussions all day of whether or not Mr. William's letter is racist or not, I have one question: Even if it is or not, why can Jesse Jackson basically say anything he wants, in regards to his comments towards LeBron James and the Owner of the Cleavland Cavaliers, but Mr. William's comments are taken so harshly? I'd like to hear thoughts on this being a double standard and why Mr. Jackson's comments are not taken as offensive as Mr. William's.

Brenda Morgan   July 19th, 2010 9:46 pm ET

There does not see to be a forum to comment on the tea party issue being discussed tonight so I will state it here.

Racism = Black Caucus
Black History Month
Black Miss America
NAACP
Black Entertainment TV
and more and more and more

Why doesn't the leadership of the black race allow these things to disappear and allow their people to just be identified as Americans? Wouldn't that go a long way of beginning to teach our children that we are all the same?

Brenda Morgan   July 19th, 2010 9:48 pm ET

There needs to be a "new" race category, that of mixed race because there is so much interracial marriages and children now that both races are becoming extinct and we are becoming one

Angela Eastep   July 19th, 2010 9:48 pm ET

If we all remember in Obama's campaign he was talking about stopping the off shore drilling and it was the air head Palin and the goat she followed that kept saying "Drill Baby Drill" So I would have to say Obama is not the wrong that fingers need to be pointed at. Even though my house value drop 20 k to 30 k I didn’t do anything wrong wall street did to me
Will republicans get this
I totally support financial reform and health care reform middle class we need a break

Where is the jobs extend unemployment befit

Judith   July 19th, 2010 9:52 pm ET

Son Reagan has his head in the clouds.

The tea baggers would go after Father Reagan calling him a socialist just like they are doing with President Obama.
Reagan felt to take from the rich and give to the lower class and this is when he signed in the bill call 'the earn income tax'.

Larry you spoke to Nancy Reagan on the phone when Ted Kennedy died and she herself stated that she could not believe the direction her Party is going. She also stated that her Ronnie would have loved Obama because both are so much alike.

Barbara Bush-daughter of the Bushs stated that she herself would not vote republican and feels that All should have health care that it is a right.

As far as these tea marchers I would like to know what rights they are having taken away.GOPs love small goverment with big tax breaks not thinking of how to pay for them nor how to pay for wars of 9 years.

Son Reagan wake up and get out of the clouds

James   July 19th, 2010 9:52 pm ET

Larry,
I think folks did to do their homework. The Republicans want the Tarp money that is set aside to be used for the unemployment. They are not against the unemployment extension; they simply want it covered without creating additional debt.

Jane - WI   July 19th, 2010 9:56 pm ET

I keep hearing that there are no jobs out there and that is why people are on unemployment for 99 weeks. If there are no jobs to be had, why are there millions of illegal immigrants here working? If you are on unemployment, there should be NO job that you are too good to do. If you need to clean hotel rooms, pick crops or milk cows to get by, so be it. There is no job that an illegal is currently doing that an unemployed American citizen should not be willing to do. There should be a law in place that if there are jobs available (no matter what they are) and you turn that job down, that you are not going to collect unemployment benefits. Our grandparents did whatever it took to get by in the Depression. Americans today need to do the same.

Judith   July 19th, 2010 9:56 pm ET

More than half those tea marchers were seniors who would not like their social security or medicare taken away. They listen to Fox with Beck,Rush L and Sarah Palin who yells she's so Christian but yet had dangerous raidcal rallies.

People want the goverment to step in so they can take a asprin or meds knowing they won't get posion. They want the goverment to step in for kids toys, dog food all kinds of safety.
People want the Goverment to step in what happen with the Gulf.
It's people like son Reagan and GOPs that don't want the big goverment.

art   July 19th, 2010 9:58 pm ET

The guy who said "business and industry are scared to death of Washington," hit it right on the head. They are worried about their Bush Tax Cuts being rescinded, and therefore refuse to cooperate by growing their businesses. Jimmy Carter endured the same thing when he was president.

Smith in Oregon   July 19th, 2010 9:59 pm ET

How sad that CNN's guest Dana Priest (Washington Post reporter) interview about post 9/11 Secret Agencys in America was nothing but a regurgitated morass of tightly prepared propaganda fed to her by these agency's in regards to the gigantic secret security and intelligence agencys that Bush-Cheney funneled some 1 Trillion dollars into creating after 9/11. That is what made the expose' by the Rolling Stones journalist so exciting.

Does this signal that like the CIA with Afghanistan's Opium-Heroin trafficking, America's NSA is no longer controlled by the Executive Branch of Government?

Did the corrupt, unconsitutional and depraved Republican administration of Bush-Cheney place civilian democratically elected America under a shadow Military ruled Secret Service operating under a Marshall Law without restraint nor any laws by the Executive Branch of civilian government?

These Secret Agencys would very likely 'create' multiple Wars rather than go 'quietly' into the night because the earth is peaceful. This is a very dangerous development for all American's that live above ground and not deep in some American taxpayer provided Military Bunker!

Judith   July 19th, 2010 10:00 pm ET

The American people would like to know exactly how much money is spent so far on the Wars and tax breaks to the Rich.GOPs don't mind spending money on schools in Irag to rebuild but they sure aren't worrying about keeping teachers here in the USA working

The technical investigation WILL ABSOLUTELY show what went wrong. That investigation cannot be completed until the well is killed at the bottom. The issue occurred as they were converting the well from drilling to production... or did it? This would have been my question to TBP. I hope Boone comes back soon for an entire hour. He is certainly one of my favorite guests and it appears that this is only place to see him on broadcast tv/cable. I support his cause.

Renee Kelly   July 19th, 2010 10:21 pm ET

Dear Larry,
Forwarded you an email earlier this month that has been circulating about the reserve of oil in this country (on land – not sea). Didn't hear back and know you're busy. Wish you asked Mr. Pickens tonight - what reserves we do have here in this country "on land "and, if it is true that we do, why it isn't being tapped? Mr. Pickens said on your show that we we can do this on our own – we want that – I agree we don't need to be dependent on other countries. Let's get it right and ask the tough questions – what do we have here and how much oil is within our borders on land and can we in the US really be dependent? This recent incident in he Gulf messed with the primary food chain – what's the difference between that and what would happen if there was an oil spill on land that could more easily be capped? If it is true that we have enough oil resources in Utah and surrounding states, let's hear about it. Just wish the question was asked of Mr. Pickens. He alluded to the fact that we can be dependent. Drilling in the ocean as we have now learned is questionable especially without the proper controls - and proper controls is another issue whether it's drilling on land or in the sea. That's a government issue –and lately that has been scary.

Brian Broussard   July 19th, 2010 10:36 pm ET

Reply to Renee Kelly,

Mr. Pickens refers to proven natural gas reserves that are untapped as of yet, not to OIL. Big difference. Fossil fuels power our electric grid and our transportation. Natural gas can do both. But we will still need OIL for plastics forEVER. ... Note, conversion of fuel source for transportation requires huge infrastructure conversions = that is what he is banking on. THAT is what will wean us from foreign oil. He knows better than any politician how to do it and that it will take so much time that it must begin now, with directives from the federal government. The market will carry it to "completion", no pun intended.

I agree with mr. smith from oregon. dick cheney had energy talks during the bush administration behind closed doors. no democrats were asked into the meetings. it is true because president bush jr. met with kadhaffi and he promised to not develop nuclear weapons. pres. bush took them off the axis of evil after he met with him. thus the oil deal was made. what did cheney get in return-he is now on a transplant list for a new heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his ejection fractiorn is less than 30%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i worked in an operating room for almost 20 years. he is probably at the top of the list for a new heart.
to matt schierer jesse jackson did not use the n word or call pres.obama's god a monkey god. jesse jackson gave his opinion on what he would have done had he been lebron james.
and to brenda morgan we have black history month because important people such as george washington carver etc... were not being taught in public shcools. and most of the tea party i do believe is racist. yes there were signs when pres. bush was in office. however, at the 2004 pubby convention over 3000 people were arrested in nyc for protesting the iraq war. also the civil rights movement was started because they had litteracy tests for black people before they were allowed to vote. in the 2004 elections the polls were closed so people standing in line would not be included and many voting places were closed early.
there is not only racism still present but there is discrimmination against women as well. when a man earns one dollar a woman earns 78 cents.
tax cuts dont work. bush sr. called it voodoo politics. for every one dollar a wealthy person gets in tax cuts they spend 32 cents. for every dollar that is received in unemployment checks that person will spend 1.65 cents. tax cuts do not pay for themselves. that is a lie. wealthy or those well off save their money or hide it in swiss bank accounts. bush jr. had the largest stimulus in the history of the u.s. and when e left office our national debt soared to almost eleven trillion bucks. china owns all of it. why do u think there were so many products recalled during the bush administration-because they were from china.
sarah palin is worse than president bush when she twitters or speaks. now she is comparing herself to wiliam shakespeare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no sarah sorry there is no word such as refudiate. no such word. she needs to know that in order to have a word admitted to the dictionary she needs to contact them and submit that word. there was no official person in charge of adding wods to the dictionary during the time of william shakespeare. also, shakespeare was a genius. he didnt tweet, he wrote serious plays and poetry. she is a dork. and there should be a leader of the tea party movement so people like mark williams cannot spew their hatred. by the way where were all these so called tea party people when the war in iraq started or when halliburton built showers for our men and women fighting in iraq who were electrocuted when they took showers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there is a reducdency in national security program. when pres. bush left office the budget was 75 billion just for the intelligence programs. that doesnt even count the military budget. suicides in june were 32 all from iraq and afghanistan. and to that ding dong woman larry had on who talked about the tea party, knows nothing about what she is talking about. they did show the black gentlemen who had the visible side arm it was in arizona. u didnt see the black man cause u watch fox news.
when ronald reagan took office the federal deficit was 995 billion bucks, when he left the fed deficit raised up to 1.8 trillion bucks. do the math mr. reagan it got raised by your dad.
why does the tea party not address fred phelps who pickets american soldiers funerals. he even picketed funerals of the miners and the people who died on the oil rig. he is hateful .
there were not as many signs when pres bush was in office because most of his rallies were attended by people who were handpicked to be in the audience. learn your facts people.

Jennifer T. Schultz   July 19th, 2010 10:50 pm ET

renee kelly that is a good idea with drilling on land however that is not without great risk. it is called hydrofracturing (western new york is pushing this hard for it to begin in the state legislature)and it taps natural gas deposits. t. boone likes the hydrofracturing. the problem with this system is you drill through rock formations and the drill ends up going through the water table. in other words where we get our drinking water from . the depth they go down into the rocks is a mile or more which is as far down as the rig is in the ocean.

James   July 19th, 2010 10:51 pm ET

@Jane -WI,
You are right; she was named Sharrod I think or something similar and was with USDA. Very racist. For some reason, only white people are ever labeled racist. She was not white.

Jennifer T. Schultz   July 19th, 2010 10:53 pm ET

to brenda morgan what is wrong with interracial marriage? there is no pure race left anywhere in the world. the last pure people who were killed by the english were the mayan race. watch the movie the mission with jeremy irons and robert de niro. only movie in which he doesnt cuss. it is very good.

Jennifer T. Schultz   July 19th, 2010 11:00 pm ET

actually to the people who mentioned the black woman at the naacp meeting. i saw it last week on keith olberman. they showed her and she swore so they had to bleep that. blacks who are racist are wrong as well as white people who are racist. and white people are not the only ones who are labeled racist. the lady with the state usda-she worked at the state level not the federal level.

stan   July 19th, 2010 11:03 pm ET

I am so glad to see T Boone back on your show. He knows more about what going on and how to fix it, than anybody else. They should hire him to be in charge of fixing it!!
I wish you would ask him if he has any desires to run for office?
Thanks

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Drill Baby Drill

bradcelica   July 20th, 2010 12:07 am ET

If T Boone advocates natural gas, would he be willing support getting rid of the natural gas drilling exemptions, especially their exemptions from the safe drinking water act and the safe water act?

Cindy   July 20th, 2010 12:15 am ET

I really appreciate the opportunity to hear T. Boone Pickens' thoughts about the spill. He gives more details than anyone else. He states the facts and leaves out the politics and emotions. Very helpful. Thanks, Larry.

gerald Jolly   July 20th, 2010 12:22 am ET

A word of warning to all patriotic Americans.

TEA BAGGERS ARE ANARCHIST, AND TRAITORS, TO OUR COUNTRY. THEY SEEK TO TAKE OVER THE LEGALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT BY FORCE IF NECESSARY.

ANYONE THAT SUPPORTS THEM OR BUYS INTO THEIR B.S. IS JUST A RADICALLY TRAITOROUS AS THEY ARE.

BEWARE MY FELLOW PATRIOTIC AMERICANS, WHAT THEY PLAN IS SO COMPLETELY ANTI-AMERICAN, THAT THEY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AN AMERICAN TERRORIST GROUP OF PEOPLE.

STAY THE COURSE, PROTECT OUR COUNTRY FROM ANY FORCE EITHER WITHIN OR OUTSIDE THAT WISHES TO DESTROY OUR WAY OF LIFE AND LIBERTY.

DO NOT BE FOOLED!

Lisa   July 20th, 2010 12:30 am ET

Doesn't anyone realize that drilling for natural gas is unregulated? Everyone needs to watch the documentary entitled, F.L.O.W.: For Love of Water, so they can see the obvious truths about drilling for natural gas and our water supply. New York state is considering allowing drilling which could affect the Delaware River Basin – see Bucks County Courier Times front page – for last Friday. Mr. King – can you look in to this???

Sara   July 20th, 2010 12:31 am ET

I wonder what Mr. Pickens thought about the documentary called Gasland. Very interesting. It shows what natural gas can do. Great question regarding safe water act bradcelica!

Jennifer   July 20th, 2010 12:32 am ET

T. Boone Pickens is trying to convince everyone that natural gas is a wonderful and clean energy source. I take it he hasn't seen the documentary Gas Land. This movie clearly demonstrates why natural gas is a logistical nightmare and pollutes our natural resources (air and water) to the point where it's actually worse than oil. Don't be fooled by T. Boone's kind demeanor, he is just another money hungry mouthpiece for big oil and big business.

Lisa   July 20th, 2010 12:37 am ET

I'm sorry, the movie was called Gas Land – about the drilling, but F.L.O.W. is about how short our water supply is – and unfortunately most people have no idea about the water ituation, or the natural gas fracking which allows dangerous and even cancer causing agents to seep into our water supplies.

Lisa   July 20th, 2010 12:38 am ET

there's an old saying around these parts – never trust an oil (or in this case natural gas) man

Alberto   July 20th, 2010 12:48 am ET

I saw the Pickens special toight..Well said Pickens..From his mouth to Gods ears!..
What did we learn?
Seepage is 2 miles from well non related!
Millions of Oil are spilled in our waters yearly..

What to learn from this..Project positve energy..and stop usin the phrase, " What if?"

Lisa   July 20th, 2010 12:49 am ET

Dick Cheney – you should be ashamed for your involvement in natural gas drilling – allowing it to be unregulated. Why don't you come north and have a nice glass of water down stream from one of your approved fracking stations? Hope you enjoy the cancer cocktail!

Lisa   July 20th, 2010 12:49 am ET

and you can invite Mr. Pickens too

Gigi Jones   July 20th, 2010 1:00 am ET

I think that with all the problems this nation is facing, the President is handling the Gulf Oil Disaster quite well. I like the fact that he got BP to escrow $20 B for claims, because that money, and perhaps more, is going to be needed to address the aftermath of the problem. So many people complain no matter what President Obama does, though. Perfect example-Gov. Jindal. He spent months lambasting Obama and his administration, saying he wouldn't take stimulus dollars, and that he wanted all Democrats gone, ad nauseum. Jindal made all kinds of obnoxious statements about how the federal government was no good-in fact, the more people speculated that he might run for President in 2012, the more outrageous the tirades!! Then when the oil disaster happened, he starts whining about how the federal government didn't come and help Louisiana!! The gall! The stupidity of it all is shocking.

James in Idaho   July 20th, 2010 1:00 am ET

Both Dana and Reagan are way off.

1. To bring up the NAACP, NBPP, and Barack Obama, is a straw man. The topic is racism within the Tea PArty movement and their feigned obliviousness to it. That being said, their straw man is easily defeated... If your neighbor runs face first into a brick wall are you going to follow him? Whenever the topic of Bush letting Bin Laden go in the mountaisn of Tora Bora comes up between myself and a trea partier or any otehr conservative, they always bring up Clinton letting Bin Laden go first after the bombing of the USS Cole. Once again, that arguement is easily defeated, because it begs the obvious question... Then why did Bush let him go second?

2. The republicans were not defeated on a budget referendum in 2008, they were defeated becausse their candidate had lost his integrity, not as a fiscal conservative, but as a moral and upright man, when he parroted and pledged to continue the same failed policies of George W. Bush concerning the Iraq invasion.

3. Feigned shock from Dana and Mr. Reagan regarding the plethora of tea party rallies and their racist elements is insulting to the average American's intelligence.

4. People need to learn the differences between racism and prejudice. they also need ot learn the difference between subtle racism and blatant racism. White hoods and hangman's nooses are blatant racism. Having an irrationally low opinion of any minority group is a much more subtle and insideious form of racism, but it is racism nonetheless.

Gigi Jones   July 20th, 2010 1:06 am ET

@Gerald Jolly: The tea baggers are anarchists. Their goal is to overthrow a duly elected government, and they don't care who gets hurt in the process. This organization should be investigated by the FBI to make sure there are no "Timothy McVeys" lurking in the background, waiting for another opportunity to re-enact another Oklahoma City. They feel happy when people express fear about them, but they are not funny, and I don't think they are as harmless as they might have us believe.

Patricia Brill   July 20th, 2010 1:08 am ET

Dear Larry,

Please GET RID OF DANA LOESCH as a rep for the Tea Party position in the national conversation.  She is extremely condescending, sarcastic, and does not put forth her arguments in a civil manner.

While I am not a member of the Tea Party, I am interested in hearing cogent arguments that are not condescending. Michael Reagan, Ben Stein are good contributors.

Pat Brill

Cathy   July 20th, 2010 1:24 am ET

Why do you give T Boone airtime? Larry every time he comes on your show, he is lobbying a message to favor his Oil & Gas Industry friends.

It was clear that he out doing damage control for his friends Dick Cheney and Halliburton.

Why else is Halliburton, the company once headed by former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney contributed $15,500 to federal candidates during June, according to a Center for Responsive Politics review of their political action committee’s most recent campaign finance filing?

What he, his oil friends, and Bush have done to deceive the people of this country, all for wealth is shameful. They will have to answer for their actions to a higher power some day. God have mercy on them.

James in Idaho   July 20th, 2010 2:07 am ET

@Gigi... conservatives dont' understand Timothy McVey as an example... you have to use someone liek Bill Ayers or nothign get's through that thick leathery hide and numbskull.

Smith in Oregon   July 20th, 2010 2:19 am ET

Today's Washington Post revealed the extremely vast scope of what the utterly corrupt and depraved Republican administration of Bush-Cheney had built on hidden taxpayer money, behind the backs of many elected lawmakers under the guise of 'The Dept. of Homeland Security Agency'. A 1 Trillion dollar boon dongle composed of 1,300 Agency's across America with 800,000 employees at top secret or higher clearance!

And how did Bush-Cheney fund that under the very noses of Congressional oversight members? By stealing that amount largely from the huge Social Security coffer and issuing Treasury IOU's in return.

What is really troubling is if the new Shadow branch of Government is actually above the civilian elected Executive Branch of the President and do they dictate to The President?

Another troubling feature of this gigantic shadow Government is that in a peaceful world, this enormous taxpayer dollar gulping super agency would quickly be broken up and shut-down. In order to even function and have a reason to continue to exist there must be several ongoing Wars all the time. And I suspect if no Wars are ongoing, this new American shadow Government would create several Wars.

This is a fearful and sad chapter for America's people and elected democracy whom largely doesn't live in deep underground taxpayer provided Military bunkers. The propeller heads living in such deep bunkers often come to act out plans and operations which the majority living on the surface in wooden houses wouldn't survive.

jgibson233   July 20th, 2010 3:22 am ET

Dana Loesch is SO over the top and nasty to sane people.

Palacios   July 20th, 2010 3:46 am ET

What does T. Boone Pickens think on deep water drilling.

Scott in Texas   July 20th, 2010 4:24 am ET

BP=Big Problems. What has been done in the Gulf is terrible. The well could have been capped soon after the blowout. The riser should have been cut right away, then removed as they did just a few days ago. Then a new BOP, or valve assembly could have been affixed, and the well shut in. Why this was allowed to gusher for 80 some days may be another agenda. BP is a large marketer or manufacturer of solar panels. They know many countries are going to go to environmentally friendly energy sources. Any correlation there?

I sent a "white paper" to the Coast Guard several weeks ago outlining affixing a new riser, where a new valve could be affixed to shut in the well. I have worked on land in the oil fields in TX, and know that this well could have been shut in long ago. By now it could have been killed and plugged. There HAS to be another agenda. What it is? I don't know. No matter what, PROFIT has to be at the center. Any ideas people?

Serge   July 20th, 2010 5:51 am ET

listening to all this tea-party-mess is giving me a good laugh. Being a european citizen, I just cannot believe that the US is still not capable to realize that this is 21st century. How about being pro-active instead of always being retro... The lady representing the tea party does not have any idea what she's talking about. People over here who held openly racist speeches are taken to court. It is simply prohibited here. After World War II, we have learned our lessons. Obviously there is still a lot of work to be done in this respect over in the US. Moreover this obviouus paranoia of too much government and regulations. Gosh, when it comes to the Gulf disaster there is not enough government, the right wing says, and had "govenment" not bailed out the banks with billions of $ the hole economy would have collapsed and the US and rest of the world would be in a recession never seen before. But I'm not surprised. Having heard the republicans say that health reform is socialism... these people in their heads still live in the mccarthy aera. Wake up guys... unfortunately for you, the iron curtain has fallen, cold war is over!

Chere   July 20th, 2010 9:53 am ET

Larry,
Thanks for having T. Boone Pickens on the program. It is helpful to hear straight facts from someone. It's unfortunate a few resent him because he has been in the oil business, but then some resent anyone with money.

Lucy   July 20th, 2010 5:07 pm ET

Has T. Boone Pickens seen GASLAND? If not, why not? If so, what are his thoughts.

I was buying into his talk about drilling for natural gas until I watched GASLAND. GASLAND is a documentary film showing on HBO that reveals the horrors of drilling for gas. Horrifying. Infuriating.

lilly   July 20th, 2010 6:58 pm ET

dont turn lindsay lohan into a hero for going to jail she gets what she gets maybe its time to realize just because they do one show one picture, the press makes them into stars they are not stars till the walk down the red carpet for a oscar which they win with respect.

she needs to grow up and know she's not that good of a actress

Chere   July 20th, 2010 9:53 pm ET

@Cathy and Lisa
You should do some homework before you embarrass yourselves. Yes Mr. Pickens has money. Guess what, he earned it. Guess what else, he gives away a significant amount of money. Included in that would be $7 million that he gave the Red Cross specifically for the aid of Katrina victims, not to mention air transport of many, many animals involved in Katrina to safe harbors. "God have mercy" on you.

Jennifer T. Schultz   July 21st, 2010 12:16 pm ET

@chere you should do your homework. t. boone pickens gave 5 million bucks not seven. he airlifted only 800 animals. not many animals. and he did not personally give that money out of his own pocket he gave it on behalf of BP, LLC corporation. you know why he gave that money from the corporation-so he can write it off on his taxes. also, he should have been airlifting all of the seniors from the nursing homes in the ninth ward or st. bernards parish. one nursing home had close to ninety people die. also, the hospital in new orleans(i believe charity hospital were stuck there with all the nursing staff. that hospital corporation did not airlift any of those patients in that hospital.
i am not impressed with people give seven and ten million bucks(especially from a corporation)because they are going to write it off on taxes. along with the tax cuts bush gave pickens came out smelling like a rose. also, it is funny, he bought several hundred wind turbines and has them sitting in texas not being used. i am sure he will find out some way to write that off also.
i have watched him on LKL many times and he has also discussed how water is going to become "new oil". starting in the midwest(some say also in the central region of the u.s.)to the calif. coast the dirty thirties will soon be upon us. everyone is arguing about water rights between neb, colo, idaho and areas of calif. we are destroying the environment. the largest amount of fresh water in the world is the great lakes. if they go ahead with the plan to hydrocfracture in ny state and other great lake states and there is a oil or natural gas leak we can kiss that water goodbye

Steve Wand   July 21st, 2010 12:37 pm ET

I have been in the industry for 30+ years, providing energy reduction equipment & systems as an employee of a Fortune 500 company and a business owner. We have tremendous opportunity in this country, if we can stop the "One Billion Dollars a Day" drain on our economy and diminished capital/cash creation which is currently being exported to others. Only a fool and a fool's politician lets this bleeding continue. Every time you pick up a gasoline nozzle to put gas in your car....think "One Billion Dollars a Day" . Mr Pickens efforts are well on target and I support anyone with the wisdom and efforts to influence change. Thank you Larry for allowing Mr Pickens and others to get the message out.

Cajazz76:24:8   July 21st, 2010 1:56 pm ET

Is capping the well head the beginning of the end? NO! It's the end of the beginning...of this nation's largest man made disaster, if you discount the un-Civil War.

The beginning is now and the illumination of the cause...the dependence on non-renewable resources that are the inevitable destruction of the planet...When the last flame is extinguished because of depleted fuel sources will we recognize that cheap is just that...and a whole lot less that causes more..More wars than religion or different ideologies has caused, fossil fuels will deplete the existence of man...The wars have not yet been fought...Greed being the first shots fired...survival the last...Man's insatiable desire to be wealthy and free is making him shackled and poor because he has not looked very far into his future where the have's and the have not's will neither have...It's going to be a close race to see if man's religion and ideologies depletes his existence on this Earth or his love affair with all things burning....especially his hard cold cash fired up in his pockets..

Cajazz76:24:8   July 21st, 2010 2:24 pm ET

Is the Tea Party racist? Well, 80-88% are white...60% are male...and 100% are disgruntled with that which was brought on by themselves...their votes for 8 years of what appeared to be tax reductions when, in fact, they were pacifiers to blind us all from the most fouled presidency of the 20 and 21st centuries...costing generations, not yet born, a ticket to ride on the rails of poverty...and that will be given to them for free....Taxed Enough Already ....is really True Enlightenment Abated...pointing that single digit away while directing three at self with one abstaining...thumbed by your own decisions and conscience...
