Missing Boy's Father: Stepmom 'Committed' to Finding Kyron

Posted: 05:42 PM ET

Editor's note: Tonight Larry will talk to Former FBI Profiler Candice DeLong and Marc Klaas about the case that has the country wondering, "What happened to Kyron Horman?"

Terri Moulton Horman has been the subject of police attention and taken two polygraph tests, but the stepmom of missing Kyron Horman has the support of his family members, who spoke out on the network morning shows Friday.

"I believe she's committed, as the rest of our family is, to finding Kyron," her husband Kaine Horman, told The Early Show.

"The investigators are working with her and with us to help find him," he said as his ex-wife and the second-grader's mother, Desiree Young, nodded her head in agreement.

Though the official search has been called off, authorities are still tracking down more than 2,500 leads and tips, according to Young.

"Honestly I'm a little scared at this point," she told the Today show Friday. "Three weeks is a long time and we need to bring him home. [I'm] scared in the sense that he's not at home where we know he's safe."

On Good Morning America, Young said she can't think of a reason why her son has not been seen since June 4.

"It's like a portal opened up in the school and Kyron just vanished into it," she said. "It's a mystery."

"[Kyron]," she adds, "is very timid and shy. He also can't see very well so he tends to stick very close to home. He doesn't go outside a certain parameter. He's not an adventurous child so he doesn't like to wander off."

This weekend, kids all over the United States will be celebrating thier birthright as US citizens. They'll have fun: swimming, picnicing, watching fireworks...and what about Kyron? What will HE do?

Smith in Oregon   June 28th, 2010 6:32 pm ET

The family should step up and tell the American people where they buried this child.

Rocco   June 28th, 2010 6:41 pm ET

We need to keep the focus on finding Kyron. Keep him and his family in our prayers.

Jan   June 28th, 2010 9:34 pm ET

Where were the school security cameras when Kyron disappeared?

princess   June 28th, 2010 9:54 pm ET

how could the school not notice an absent child that was in school that morning. something is wrong here. how could a child dissapear in a public setting. something is wrong, very wrong.

Grace, Carmel NY   June 28th, 2010 9:58 pm ET

The step mother is probably covering up info because she feels guilty about letting the boy go to the school alone. She has a younger child and may have been busy and the boy went off by himself.

Jaker   June 28th, 2010 10:00 pm ET

Dear Larry,

Is there no ct camera's at that young boys school at entry or exit points? In Europe they're up in every school I'd say this is a planned kidnap & I would say it could be in the "Family"!

jon   June 28th, 2010 10:00 pm ET

could it be one of his teachers? i attended an elementary school in the late 70's early 80's, where the PE teacher was a pedophile and tried to prey on us.

jk

KellyinPDX   June 28th, 2010 10:01 pm ET

Regarding Kyron – That Jane woman is unprepared to be on this panel. She doesn't know the facts of this case and because of that she is perpetuating the horrible gossip that has plagued the family support pages.
Jane – The police HAVE identified the man in the photo. If you are going to present yourself as an expert, then please take the responsibility to have expertise in the subject matter.

Candy   June 28th, 2010 10:06 pm ET

My hopes and prayers are with Kyron in that he be found alive.

Linda   June 28th, 2010 10:26 pm ET

Portland TV station KGW has reported on its website Kyron's father has filed for divorce and restraining order against the stepmom.

Shelby   June 28th, 2010 10:34 pm ET

I can't believe that the stepmother hasn't cracked yet. I have suspected her from the get-go. She also probably had help covering it up. Time will tell.

j.c.gilbreth   June 28th, 2010 11:06 pm ET

Havethe police or the proper authorites searched every room ,closets, utilitly rooms, roof, basement, outside buildingsdalls, lockers, thegrounds of the school, question all emloyees of the school, allchildren, and their parents,All family members. The teachers houses and grounds?
Someone had to see him if he was in the school and who was around him. they may not know the person or persons but they could give a little decription of them!! Surely!!!!

Unknown   June 28th, 2010 11:16 pm ET

Sounds just like that book "Wanted!" By Caroline B. Cooney.

Nancy   June 28th, 2010 11:51 pm ET

In one of the videos on Nancy Grace, they circled the stepmom's face so you could see her. She looks as though she is hanging onto people purposely to make you feel sorry for her or as if she feels sad. As you can see the woman to the left totally ignores her.

suzette   June 29th, 2010 12:36 am ET

ALH   June 29th, 2010 12:39 am ET

It has now been reported by all the news stations in Portland OR

AH   June 29th, 2010 12:43 am ET

By now, everyone now has seen on the news casts in the Portland OR area, dad has filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order from his wife and step-mom of Kyron and has moved out of the house and has taken the 18month old with him. This information has been updated on all the different tv station websites as of the last few hours

Sylvia Ross   June 29th, 2010 12:46 am ET

With regards to the program, Marc Klaas has NO IDEA what he's talking about. He said the school was a "very rural area" when it's IN the city of Portland, within minutes of downtown Portland. It's a small school – yes, but rural area IT IS NOT. OMG ha ha!

Please only have people who are at least somewhat educated on the topic at hand on your panels. You can tell your shows are sometimes poorly produced.

suzette   June 29th, 2010 1:20 am ET

wow! the boogie man took kyron i can see if he was droped off infront of school or maybe at office this boogie man had to know the seconds that she walked from hall way and he to walk to his class room ray chales can see it was perfect oppertunity to pull it off . i will bet my fingers he was taken by the last person with him very well thought out 9am to 1 pm as i remember oj had 45 mins .. i just thought of something 2nd grade is not like high school where the hall ways r clear when bell rings these little guys r still lined up in hall ways always kids in hall ways would of heard him scream at the boogie man .

Nancy   June 29th, 2010 1:23 am ET

The school is in a rural area. Surrounded by woods and fields. Still part of Portland but on the outer city limits.

Lori - Justice for Michael   June 29th, 2010 2:49 am ET

Continue to pray for Kyron. It appears things are developing and not in a positive way. Kyron's father has moved out, filed for divorce and a RO from the step-mother and taken their little daughter with him. I expect that there will be more sad information to come. Poor Kyron.

meema   June 29th, 2010 4:06 am ET

Right – The area is "rural" but it is between several well populated cities (Beaverton, Hillsboro, Aloha) and it is IN Portland, only moments from downtown. It is also a "back road" for commuters to get from the westside (subburbs) to the Eastside (Portland). However, it is a small "rural" school. and that is the feeling out there. There are many areas like this in Portland Metro area, they are not isolated however.

Jane should not have been on that panel. She obviously read an article by the Oregonian with the title of "close knit family" or something along those lines. She basically memorized this article and spit it back out...apparently, I, too could have a career as an "expert" on tv. I am pretty good at memorizing things like this. That's just inexcusable that she didn't do further investigation. From the same interview they referred to many times, with Desiree and Kaine (bio-mom/dad), Desiree stated, no, SHE DID NOT KNOW Terri before, (assuming she means before she came to know her through Kaine.)

And, yes, it is true Kaine Horman has served Terri Horman divorce paper along with a restaining order...

guilty? oh, i'd say so. i also thought the point that celest (name?) had a great point about the few seconds that he would have had to have been abducted in, assuming he never made it into his class. I also like Marked comment about how she walked "with" him, but then waved at him...it does she odd that she would walk with him down the hall and then he says, he can go the rest on his own, and she waves. as opposed to a kiss or hug or ruffle of his hair as Mark pointed out.

Sorry, but that was super Lazy. Did a little deeper people, or at least make sure your staff does. Many CNN should hire me : )

And, yes, it's true

meema   June 29th, 2010 4:37 am ET

Of course I would hire someone to do all of my editing...it's not my strong suit : )

Sylvia   June 29th, 2010 11:53 am ET

Larry, did the authorities check the basement, ducts of the school? That child is hid somewhere. Poor little soul. Pray for him.

Mary   June 29th, 2010 7:51 pm ET

Did ANYONE else see the little boy at school or was it only the stepmother? Where was the photo of him standing by the footprint (dinosaur or something) taken? Was that displayed at the school that morning? Why didn't she walk him all the way to his class...was she in a conversation with someone that can verify her being at the school? I'm assuming the school doesn't have security cameras. This is just so sad for everyone involved. A previous statement by someone mentioning Susan Smith makes me shudder. I thought that same thing in the very beginning when I saw her reactions. Seems there would be more hysteria from her...but everyone reacts differently. So sad ...
