I believe that the citizens of the United States of American should really listen to what the candidate's main ISSUES are. The people of this country should do more to listen to the POSITIVE campain ads and commercials instead of listening to the NEGATIVE ads and comercials. One candidate must be truly desperate to publish such Negative Ads. Not only may this potentially help the candidate but it will definitely keep many people out of the state of disgust.

Can anyone explain why senate is twidleing their thumbs on unemployment stimulus filing dedline extensions? I am one of the hundreds of thousand unemployed whos whopping 26 weeks of benefits run out next week. This is a national disaster if you really think about it, yet if a foreign country has a major earthquake or etc, this country (our elected officials) have no problem offering releif immediatly. I wonder if they remember where their salaries come from? All i have to say is take care of home first.

I feel that we should be charging BP per barrell of iol or days that the leak continues, so this will be fixed asap. I would also like to see an offer of ten million dollars to any party that can cap this. The us has creative mind s, universities, and independant corporations that could fix this . I can imagine someone at mit or harvard that deals with chemicals and understanding of the ways to breakdown oil. If we were charging BP a fee everyday that money could go towards the clean up and payment of the volunteers. thanks

I believe that this man did kill Natalie Holloway. I feel I am not alone in this. If only he could have been prosecuted & convicted in Natalie's death........not only would her family really KNOW what had happened to her, but perhaps a killer would have been stopped for good. Stephanie would still be alive.
It is such a tragedy.

Sylvie Tremblay   June 8th, 2010 9:21 pm ET

Can the Aruba police obtain a warrant to obtain his laptop and search it for evidence; since he said he killed the Peruvian girl because she was snooping into provate information ?

Cedric Raymond   June 8th, 2010 9:25 pm ET

What I don't understand is why didn't suck it up on the surface with pumps. it would have saved slot of pain and money and they would they could have saved the dispersant for the next spill. Unless the president shakes up the agencies responsible and changing the law. Seem to me that the relief well would have been handy before the disaster began. I wonder how many other wells are ready to blow.

Mike Bergin   June 8th, 2010 9:29 pm ET

The Solictor General of Aruba sounded like he had no historical information on the Natalie Holloway case – or more to the point – did not want to admit to having such information?

And this for a man in office who holds one of the most esteemed legal political positions in Aruba.

Amazing!

Mike from CT

Johan Van der Sloot is one of the sad cases, a typical example of keeping idle and living an idle life which is the devil's playground.
The fact that he murdered a woman on the anniversary of the disappearance of Natalie is a coincidence. Nothing happens in this world and in our lives without God knowing about it. As God will have it, it so happened that Johan murdered the Peruvian lady at such a time. It may be that Natalie's soul is crying to Heaven for vengeance. In time, the truth will project its face.
Johan thought by leaving Peru he would not be caught. This was his intention. So he said that the woman found out about him through utilizing his computer. This is no reason for him to injure her in such a manner that he murdered her and in such a terrible manner and fled Peru.
Johan believes that he can deceive the authorities, once again, but this time he is caught once and for all. I do not believe his story. You know the saying: "Dead man (woman) tell no tales." God knows!
It appears that Johan has led a life of disobedience, stubbornness and selfishness and now he is paying the price. This is a man who needs rehabilitation for whatever length of time it takes to make him come to his senses and change his immature, ill-mannnered, non-caring and bad-tempered mannerism. If he receives it and accepts it, finally, he may recognize his error. Too late maybe but where there is live, there is always hope.
Think of a mother's love. I think of his mother who has been hurting by his attitude and he being an embarrassment to her of all. He was protected by his father. His father is no more to protect and shield him. His mother is left with the pain of having such a son who has found himself, once again in such a situation and who may be incarcerated for life. What a waste of a life and a young life at that.

Cedric Raymond   June 8th, 2010 9:46 pm ET

this may be the time that God gets his attention. Oh, and I hope they have the death penalty down there.

Mary   June 8th, 2010 9:52 pm ET

When it comes to the disappearance of Natalie Hollaway – What ever happen to the possiblity of her being sold to the sex slave industry? No trace of her body was ever found. What ever happen to the man who ran the Tattoo Party boat in Aruba, who was also the bartender at Carlos & Charlie's, and why was the bar closed down after the incident? I heard he became a very rich man!
I find it very strange that after this incident, this man sells the boat and closes the bar and leaves Aruba??? And comments are made as to where Joran was getting his money.
I am sure this was investigated. Can this question be asked to the Hollaway attorney?

Michael Armstrong Sr.   June 8th, 2010 9:58 pm ET

It's comical the way the media act's like there sad to see Helen Thomas leave you know you guy's are kicking your heal's .

GREG   June 8th, 2010 10:05 pm ET

How can Larry let that Ari Fleischer get his smug comments in about Hellen Thomas without checking him. Ari says Helen is bad because she advocates the expulsion of people based on religion.

The whole state of Israel is based on religion. They discriminate, humiliate, demean and murder Arabs based on religion. I have never understood how western democracies to whom freedom of religion is sacred tolerates Israel's blatant religious bigotry. How can you be a democracy when you only let one religion vote yet you take everybody's land and don't pay for it?

I can not believe that we allow Israel to murder and brutalize people under the excuse of security. We should discontinue diplomatic relations and halt all support of any kind for the demons controlling that government.

Smith in Oregon   June 8th, 2010 10:28 pm ET

And Joran van der Sloot just happened to have a baseball bat in his hotel room????

Bashed her brains in with a baseball bat 'because she looked at his laptop'?

It's terrible to consider that laptops are likely not that common a household appliance in Peru isn't it? The Peruvian woman was likely just curious to use it, connect to the internet and surf some websites.

Nonetheless, this monster is now going to be surrounded by angry Peruvian prisoners for the next 20 years (remember he confessed so the judge will likely lower his sentence). The Peruvian prisoners will probably tuck him in every night given the very strong national condemnation against this violent murder.

What really is sad in regards to this young woman's life and violent death is this man apparently got the money to travel to Peru by a planned sting operation from the American family seeking information about their missing daughter in Aruba.

Did the American family approach Joran van der Sloot with the offer to pay him a large amount of money to disclose the grave site of their daughter? Perhaps CNN could investigate and find out who specifically and truthfully approached who with that offer.

For some reason the FBI dropped the ball on charging Joran van der Sloot with extortion in America and extraditing him from Aruba, whereupon Joran van der Sloot left for Peru, met the young woman and apparently violently murdered her.

Without the money from the American Holloway family, he couldn't have traveled to Peru. Without the FBI dropping the ball on charging him with extortion and extraditing him from Aruba, he couldn't have traveled to Peru.

Larry King, ask this 'Most Intriguing Person' Beth Holloway if she approached Joran van der Sloot about the offer of a large amount of money to disclose the resting place of her daughter.

Larry King, ask Beth Holloway if she feels directly responsible for making it possible for Joran van der Sloot to travel to Peru and murder that young woman.

I seriously doubt the Holloway Family as well as the FBI will contact the Peruvian Family of the Murder Victim and Apologize, go figure!

I seriously doubt Beth Holloway feels responsibility for making it possible for Joran van der Sloot to murder another young woman, go figure!

Debra Kline   June 8th, 2010 10:57 pm ET

I was just watching Larry Kline Live and heard the Attourney for the Hollaway family comment on the feelings of the people in Aruba. She stated " The people in Aruba are angry" They want closure and closure for the Hollaway family. Well, I was vacationing in Aruba in May. In fact May the 10th Joran Van der Sloot waltzes in to the Radission Casino and sat at a Black Jack table. My head was popping off my shoulders. I could not believe it. I looked at my husband in total disbelief. The look on my face spoke a thousand words because the dealer leaned over the table and said to me "He will not hurt you". Then I began to ask questions of the people around me. Several were people who vacation/live in Aruba for many years. Others were native. I was shocked to find that most all of the native Aruba people treated him as if he was their long lost son. They love him. Then the people that vacation there regularly that will tell you the whole story having been through the entire investigation just because they are there so often. Those folks, NOT SO MUCH, although they will say no one ever found any evidence but still have many doubts. He came in three nights in a row. He was spending money gambling . He seemed to be very calm with no worries. When we returned home......Well now the rest of the story. WOW I'm still in utter shock that he could go back to Aruba and act as if nothing has ever happened, and most of the people around him act that was as well.

So where are all the "Save the Gulf" concerts? Where are the T.V. Benefits with celebrities and musicians giving heart felt speeches on the poor fisherman, wildlife, beaches, loss of income and sabotaged gulf economy? These people (including our own government) are so quick to help Haiti and ...other countries...but where are they now?

cj holmes   June 9th, 2010 12:14 am ET

Regardless of how you view californians, it is NOT the amount of money in the campaign that makes a difference. Many times corporate entities spend huge sums to sway opinion here and are resoundingly unsuccessful. So please stop emphasizing the money that candidate's spent.

FOCUS ON THE CANDIDATE'S PLANS.

The real reason Meg has been successful, is that she has a specific PLAN!! Fortunately, she printed a booklet (and had the money to do so) and mailed it out to millions of families. We are very impressed with her specific proposals and strategy for turning this state around. One of our key concerns that she addressed is that the first things she can and will do, she can do WITHOUT legislature involvement, as you probably well know our legislature is frozen.

this is the first time we've ever seen such a specific plan addressing various laws or agencies and itemized in a candidate's plan. This is the type of specific proposal that every citizen should DEMAND from their candidates so we have sensible and sound choices in elections.

And I think CNN and all news agencies should FOCUS on the PLANS. Help us out, guys!

Oh this is Ladies Night! Republican or Democrat, I am so proud of our women candidates!

jack   June 9th, 2010 1:04 am ET

@Shikha...It is much more important what the candidates stand for , rather than what sex they are. Blanche Lincoln, for example, often seems to promote corporate interests over those of rank and file citizens. How is the fact that she is a woman enough reason to make you happy with her winning the primary?. If you support big corporate interests, above those of what is good for the majority, then that makes sense, from your perspective. If you do not, then I guess it doesn't.

Allan Huddlestan   June 9th, 2010 1:47 am ET

Yo...Call me an idiot...but why isn't BP or the Coast Guard going back to basics....keep it simple......First off ....The companies should'nt be allowed to drill that deep unless they comply with strict rules about using technology (available) that deals with a catostophic disaster like we are seeing now....Perhaps a stupid question.....with all the resources at hand why can't someone manufacture and deliver to the site a massive, heavy cone with pumps and pipes that would deliver virtually all the emmisions to an on the surface retrival vessel???? The lack of strict rules and enforcement governing deep sea drilling have led to this catastrophe....Smarten up!!!! Cheers Al H

bob jiao   June 9th, 2010 7:16 am ET

Dear debra kline,
We in aruba/holland are upset as most people are in the
results of the many investigations which failed to pin down
joran or who ever committed Nathalies dissappearance.
your observation on the Arubian people is entirely localized
probably amongs tourist. Are we forgetting OJs celebrity treatment in
your USA despite the fact strong evidence (bungled tho) exist !
Your justice, like ours adhere (oftentimes against our personal belief)
to the court findings. Please refrain from generalizing 100,000 people
opinion/feelings in Aruba. I can understand your frustration tho!
God bless.

Ted   June 9th, 2010 7:34 am ET

Since you can hang a man only once, we should forget the Aruba case and hang this man for the killing in Peru.
He will do it again, so good bye, dud.

Michael Bowen   June 9th, 2010 8:01 am ET

Has BP considered inserting a much smaller diameter pipe into the well-head that is like a stint for a heart that could be inflated once it was inserted to the proper depth to the diameter of the actual pipe shaft? Unlike a stint that keeps the artery open for blood flow this would become an elongated plug (hopefully) stopping the flow of oil. If this worked they could back fill with cement. This would obviously have to be a specially designed pipe with an inflatable “bag” (for lack of a better term) running the length of the pipe on the outside of the pipe made of something very durable but flexible. By inserting this pipe with the bag un-inflated it would present a more streamlined profile possibly making it possible to insert it against the pressure of the oil coming out.

Debra Kline   June 9th, 2010 9:26 pm ET

Dear bob jiao,
I am really not generalizing all of your Arubian people together, I never spoke with any one from Holland, however, everyone I spoke with over a 2 year period completely defended Joran. All were native. Only the long time vacationers were the ones with a different opinion. Yes I realize that was a small group that I was speaking with and maybe there are those who are upset about all that has happened. It seemed that as long as he was spending his money there no one really cared. Many said you brought your USA here and found nothing. Again all were native. So I am just going by what I learned from everyone who spoke on the subject.
As far as O.J. Simpson goes there is NO one that I have ever spoken with that thought he was innocent..... And last but not least Bob here in America I get to voice my opinion even if Its about a different country.
