Miss USA photos: art or borderline porn?

This is ridiculous, and you're right, it is a sign of the times, but that's not a good thing. Trump said it himself, this was done in order to get more viewers. He would also probably be one of the first to tell you, "sex sells." So what Miss USA is saying here is that sex is the most important instead of the other things they claim to be important like the charity work, the brains, etc. Give me a break. This is indeed a sign of the times, a sign showing how far we have come in objectifying our young women and their bodies and doing so shamelessly. Jonny Weir, you call this empowerment over your body? What power do you have over your body if you are succumbing to the objectification of your body in order to satisfy the male population? And you say that's a great message? You're kidding me, right? One more thing, what in the world is your definition of exposure?

And Jealous, Mr. Trump? I'm a 30 year old male, therefore nothing for me to be jealous of. I think these girls look amazingly hot. And that's the point, that's all I see. I don't see the purported charity work or degrees they have, I'm too busy looking at their unbelievable bodies, who cares about the other stuff. That, I'm afraid, is the real message your sending. So no, I am not jealous, I'm offended because of the message you are bringing to our young daughters.

If the pageant is defending these photos, then why is it such a big deal when racy pics from the girls' past surfaces and the pageant threatens to relinquish the winner's crown or title? Hypocrites!

plastichead   May 13th, 2010 1:14 pm ET

I think this is NOT the way to go for these pagents. Why are all the women in the bedroom looking like theyre on a Playboy audition? If they wanted to be tasteful–YET–show off the beauty of these women it could have been done in a DIFFERENT environment! THAT would have made this something other than another type of soft porn shots.
For example: showing the girls doing something relevant to OUR TIMES such as helping a charity (while dressed in a stylish outfit), feeding the poor (still looking fly) or on the stock exchange (no problem with mini-skirt suits)...THAT would show the beauty–and BRAINS of these girls–and elminate the feeling that we're watching "the girls next door" with Kenda and others. I think BRINGING in THAT kind of element would have made MORE MONEY than just sexing the whole ad up. Plasticheadblog.com

I think they need to give back all the crowns taken from past winners for their "inappropriate photos"!
I agree with ss!
It isn't right and not appropriate for the pageant!

Miss USA is a business based on revenue. Trump's Miss USA and Miss Universe just signed to renew a 3-year contract with NBC. Who knows what the terms of the renewal was? Racy photos etc may have been a requirement to boost ratings.

Miss America was declined for renewal and lost its TV contract. Perhaps it wasn't sexy enough for the network or unwilling to "change with the times" as Trump eagerly did.

Shawn is right on with his comments. The charity work, brains etc are all accoutrements that have little to do with the true objective of these shows. Let's call a spade, a spade. If ambitious young women want to participate in exploiting themselves for fame (its their free choice) and if the owners and sponsors want to cash in on the exploitation – they have that right.

However Miss USA should consider re-naming the pageant with this change in "presentation". Miss Escort comes to mind. Our country's name is attached to it. We appreciate beauty, but not necessarily abased portrayals of women "representing" our individual states.

Perhaps with all the available dipictions of women on the internet, Trump may feel the need to "compete" with them at "that level" for his revenue grab. This latest stunt has provided the publicity craved by NBC and whoever has invested in this business.

Miss USA official rule for contestants:

"I represent that I have not and will not engage in any activities which, if
disclosed to the public, would bring (names Trump's organizations)into disrepute, ridicule or contempt not limited to, but to include . . .professional or amateur nude or semi-nude dancing or modeling in any sexually oriented business or club, any type of nude or semi-nude photographs or video tapes, prostitution, any felony conviction, probation or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude."

It appears the above will be reserved for presentation at the pageant.

I agree with Plastichead...could have been done better. Also agree that it is hypocritical and so Vanessa WIlliams and others should get BACK their crowns.

Whats the big deal anyway? It's not like there totally naked. What about Victoria Secerts, is that too revealing? No one is up in arms about that! What about the ads in like the major stores that sells those clothes. I can open up the newspaper and see pretty much the same thing in the MISS USA pictures. When are we as a suppose FREE COUNTRY going to stop with this CRAP! I bet if the we had more people employed, then maybe this stuff would really go under the radar!

Maybe sex sells and maybe it dosent. Why is it a issue with the public? If you find it degrading opr offensive, then DO NOT LOOK AT IT. RIGHT? These are grown women, and they can decide if they want to do this. It's not like there is a gun to there head saying they have to do this. They can choose not to take those pictures. But this is what we do as AMERICANS. We have nothing else better to do then look for stuff to complain about.

lola   May 13th, 2010 10:21 pm ET

These photos are demeaning and borderline porn.....not what Miss USA should represent. The sports illustrated swimsuit model issue is in better taste than these boudoir soft porn photos.. At least the girls look somewhat wholesome and athletic in natural lighting. Yes, the women are attractive.....but let's face it – anyone under 30 that is tall and thin would look just as great with the lighting, make-up and air brushing. Lady Diana comes to mind as a woman truly beautiful as she visits children in hospitals and orphanages. This is what Miss America is about. Inner beauty as well as outer beauty, brains, etc. These photos cheapen the image and women in general. Jealous? I don't think so. Disgusted? Yes. Definitely! Give our daughters true role models they can aspire to......not porn stars.

Matt   May 14th, 2010 3:32 am ET

Larry, in all these years that is the best interview I've ever seen

Ted   May 14th, 2010 8:30 am ET

@ lola

You are correct, we should change the image of our women.

Short and well built, hair cut like men, walks, talks, swears and f...ks like men, (with a little artificial help to supplement the deficiency caused by mother nature).
They sure would sell a lot of Playboys and advertisements and arouse the desire of all normal men,,, to kick them where they dislodge their nasty afterbreath.

gerald Jolly   May 14th, 2010 11:35 am ET

Think how terrible our life would be if we did'nt have exploitive people like "THE DONALD" providing us with "SMUTT"

Charles   May 14th, 2010 12:28 pm ET

@Ted,
I would love for the people whose money you are managing to see your blogs. Guarantee you that you'd lose clients. Yo really seem a bit of a pervert. What do you wear when you are home alone?

gerald Jolly   May 14th, 2010 3:22 pm ET

As the picture above denotes.

This is America's image of a young lady that is chaste, decent, non sexual, and full of integrity.

Exactly the kind of young lady we would want our daughter to be.

"NOT"

Ted   May 15th, 2010 8:24 am ET

@ Charles

Defination for pervert:

1. If you are a southern Bible thumper: anyone who sleeps without an ankle length gown and takes the Bible with him when he or she goes to cheat on his wife or her husband.
God made us do it.

2. In southern France and other parts of this world: people go swimming and sunning naked, because mother nature created us that way.
Here you would have to look a bit longer to find a meaning to your word!!

3. The USA has the greatest porno industry in the world, offering to any taste you desire. Hollywood movies and TV shows use all those 4 letter words without discrimination.
Do you find it pervert or is it just a way to make an honest buck?

Charles, what is your defination for that word?
