Nielsens: Idol Back on Top, Lots of Glee at Fox

Posted: 03:16 PM ET

After a two week absence, "American Idol" has returned to the top of the Nielsen ratings by less than the population of my hometown, Mesquite, Texas.  Yes, I've been trying for a while to work the name of my hometown into this blog - home of the Fighting Skeeters.

The most interesting nugget this week is Fox's critically acclaimed but, until last week, low rated "Glee" came in 4th for the week.  Doesn't take a network exec to figure out this was because it followed "Idol," and got some big promotion, but I'm curious to see if the show can keep those that were too lazy to change the channel after "Idol."  If you watched "Glee," what did you think?  Will you watch again?

"Glee" and "Idol" weren't enough though to win the week for Fox.  CBS was first among the networks, followed by Fox, ABC and NBC.

On cable, Discovery's "Deadliest Catch" returned with its best numbers ever, with 4.6 million viewers.  Here's the top 10 for the week of April 12-18:

Goes to show how very desperate American audiences are for entertainment.

Wow, Republican Senator Jim DeMint is publicly stating the racist and seditionist Tea Party is a 'spiritual revival' for America!

For the exact words from this Republican lawmaker who apparently has either misplaced his medication or is at a total loss to equate reality with his vision of life around him, here is his psycho babble:

"Republican Senator Jim DeMint: Well, I think people are seeing this massive government growing and they’re realizing that it’s the government that’s hurting us and I think they’re turning back to God in effect is our salvation and government is not our salvation and in fact more and more people see government as the problem and so I think some have been drawn in over the years to a dependency relationship with government and as the Bible says you can’t have two masters and I think as people pull back from that they look more to God. It’s no coincidence that socialist Europe is post-Christian because the bigger the government gets the smaller God gets and vice-versa. The bigger God gets the smaller people want their government because they’re yearning for freedom."

Well Republican Senator Jim DeMint, GW Bush greatly expanded Federal Government creating two foreign war zones, the huge Dept. Homeland Security, adding over 1,000 new US Military Bases across Iraq and Afghanistan, including the largest and most expensive embassy in Iraq. Does that mean Jim DeMint that Republican GW Bush was secretively working for your Satan?

@Smith in Oregon.....it's as if we're looking @ a reflection in a mirror...is it 1959 or tell me..It is 2010. I thought the Republicans thought they were progressive..then why pray tell do they want to repeat all the mistakes of past decades. There we go again with RELIGION..people don't you know that's the 1st step to friction!!!!

@Theresa,
You make a terrible mistake to assume all Republicans in America are focused on religion. There is a conservative Bible-focused group among them, but do you think, for example, that Wall Street focuses on the Bible; do you think they are Democrats or Republicans. Covering everyone with one stroke of a big brush is again a bad mistake. I find it a little strange that a few bloggers continually trash religions that are common in our country but seem to fully support the religions of other cultures.

@ Theresa

Beautifully stated and right on the mark Theresa. Many of us Americans can see this; however, most unfortunate for the US, many Americans are blinded and cannot see very clearly! Keep up the good work!
