Oprah, Leno, Letterman in one ad? Here's how

Posted: 01:39 PM ET

By Bill Carter via New York Times

Jay and Dave together? Could it be true?

It is, and there they were, Jay Leno and David Letterman sitting on a couch – with Oprah Winfrey between them — upstairs at the Ed Sullivan Theater, where Mr. Letterman tapes his show.

The spot was shot last Tuesday afternoon, under the strictest of secrecy which involved both Mr. Leno and Ms. Winfrey flying in surreptitiously to New York, and arriving incognito at the theater, while Mr. Letterman was in the midst of taping his show for that night.

It also involved Jay wearing a disguise: hooded sweatshirt, glasses and faux mustache. If you happened to be on Broadway between 53rd and 54th street last Tuesday about 4:15, you might have seen a man fitting that description slip into the theater by a small entrance under the marquee.

According to staff members of the “Late Show with David Letterman” who were on the scene that day — including the executive producer, Rob Burnett – it all happened because Mr. Letterman had an idea he thought would be truly funny: a Super Bowl ad that featured the two longest-running adversaries in late night, sitting with Ms. Winfrey as though at a Super Bowl party.

I saw the ad, it was really good and unexpected.

James31   February 8th, 2010 1:54 pm ET

Perhaps this was more of a promo than an ad, but I thought it was the best of the evening. Kudos to all three. Letterman is genius for coming up with the skit and I think it only helped Jay and Dave.

In reguards to the charges for the killing of Michael Jackson, this
weekend on "True TV" their was a dr. who would do plastic surgery
out of the patients home if they couldn't afford a hospital. A lady died
because she lost so much blood (after losing so much blood and then getting a blood infection.

He was charged with 2nd degree murder of malice because he knew
what the outcome would be by giving medication and doing the
surgery out of a hospital setting. Yet he still chose to do it in patients
home. (This happened in California,)

HOW MANY MORE CELEBRITIES WILL WE LOSE TO DEATH BEFORE OUR DOCTORS HAVE TO TAKE RESPOSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS""""""

Dodie   February 8th, 2010 10:10 pm ET

@ Sue in Michigan

The root of the problem ....... and I agree with you, our MDs need to be more responsible instead of just looking at $$$... however, Celebrities are used to getting what they want, even though it is dangerous. Hopefully that too will stop. We have had many over-doses of famous people in the past. Today, they are just using prescription drugs. The Celebrities must also take responsibility for their requests! It’s a two way street.

sometimes I wonder when I see cases like sanford cheating , my mind goes in the present state of affairs where girls and boys are allowed to date as early as 16 / 18 , they get married laternot necessary with thier dates of school and colleges, th second world war and many other wars proved men dies leaving a great number of women left widow and unattended , prstitution increased after all wars .
Islam gives permission to MEn to marry women to protect them and have more than one wife on following conditions
1 if you can afford having more and can do justice
2 war widows to give them home .
3 SEX OBSESSED and can afford .
Why christianity do not allow polygamy unde strict conditions
many such scandels end in happy marrige .
MEN are ploygamist by nature / thats debatable .
Sanford must be living in sAUDIA ARABIA and was a muslim he had no problemsniether his wife
The family saved .

@Ahmed-would you approve if the woman wanted to have more than 1 husband?

John H   February 8th, 2010 11:45 pm ET

@Dodie...Thank you Dodie! I agree it's time our celebrities and heros take responsibility for their own actions. They know full well what they are doing is dangerous but do it anyway. I't taking the easy way out to blame their facilitators and leave the celebrity him or herself innocent of wrong.

@Ahmed...I can see the positive aspects of looking out for widows in your family but taking them in as additional wives is not the best solution. It is my opinion that one of the problems with your argument is that the male in the population is raised with a sense of entitlement and is considered rightous no matter what he does. An example is the Honor Killing of female family members who are thought to have brought dishonor to the family. This sense of manhood and the right to punish those who are seen to put that manhood up for derision is a critical fallacy in your belief system. Again this is my opinion.

Larry King could you bring somebody on your show to talk about the advantages of decriminilising marjuana nationwide. I want a proffesional not some crack pot. Talk about how the police use marjuana to abuse the 4th ammendment. Be sure to talk about medical advantages of marjuana. I think larry king is a respectable journalist who will bring this issue to light and look at this issue fair. We got gay people getting married and people who smoke pot go to jail it is redicuoulous. Also talk about how smoking has been iligalized in bars. I want protected by the police not chased for something i do with my own body.

Dodie   February 9th, 2010 3:18 am ET

@ John H

Thank you...

We both can see the responsibility is with everyone involved! It seems to be the major problem in this country. Always pointing our finger at everyone else in order to dodge responsibility! If you study history, you would see that same phenomena before other powerful empires/countries decline. I certainly hope we can stop it.

Larry, i used to listen to you when you were on radio at 12 midnight, remember? I can't take it anymore, i have to remind you that Palin has more experience than Obama had when he was elected president. I have never heard you mention that.Cnn does not get it yet,the american people have buyers remose because they elected Obama. Everyone looks good compared to no experience Obama. All we got was RAHM,VALERIE,ALEX ETC. Obama has had problems using a telepromter, mention that. I used to be a big fan when your show and it's guest where not so mean. Cnn has to let up on Palin and report more about Obama . What about his aunt who lives in a hud building and is not an american citizen? Cnn never reports about that. He is the elected president and we need to know everything he is doing in front or behind the cameras.

I thought this skit with Dave, Oprah and Jay was genius as someone else said. I don't know if it's true that Conan was invited. it would make sense and it would have made it even more unbelievable. If he was invited and turned it down, I think that was a mistake. I saw it posted somewhere that if Conan had come in at the end to get drink orders, it would have blown even the game out of the water.

I Love that this has come to life.
